the positives: very friendly staff, good chips, and good salsa. in fact, i would probably stop by just to order some salsa to go. because it is a family-owned place and the staff is so freaking nice, it's hard to give it a bad review but the food there just isn't good. denver has a surprising amount of good mexican food so gregorio's doesn't rank too high when compared to other places. i had menudo, which i generally love, and it was so bland and overcooked. my brother ordered tamales and they were also bland but had a surprising amount of heat, which i know sounds contradictory so the conclusion i came to was that they added capsaicin because chile usually adds flavor and heat. i could be wrong but that's what it tasted like. basically, everything tasted like mexican food out of a can. sad. sad. sad. read more

A big shout-out to Gregorios for being one of the few Mexican restaurants in the Denver area to make a green chili that I can actually eat! I grew up on the coast of Maine, so my early exposure to Mexican food was my mom's highly exotic monthly taco night, which consisted of ground beef and an Old El Paso taco dinner kit from which we used only half of the meat seasoning packet for fear of it being "too spicy"! But fear not: the green chili at Gregorios has some heat for sure, but it's the heat of a gentle kiss versus a tongue down the throat: subtle and delicious. I also appreciate the variety of the combination plates on the menu at Gregorios, and the awesome homemade tortilla chips served warm and crispy (although the accompanying salsa is, no surprise here, a little too hot for my taste!). It's a great little colo-mex style place. the el burro martain is fab and big. the steak chimi's also make my mouth water. very friendly staff and down right good food, always a good recipe. This has been my favorite Mexican Restaurant since I can remember. Now I don't live close, but my family who lives all over CO will go out of their way to eat at Gregorio's! Everything on the menu is good, but I alway opt in for combination G (crispy chille relleno, cheese and onion enchilada, and a bean tostada). Food is great and so is the service! Terrible owner and food. My mom and her friend (both in 70's) went here and ordered 2 meals and 2 drinks (drinks were suppose to be buy 1 get one free). Upon getting food they tried it and both meals had tons of fat but the meat was old and chewy. They each only took one bite before calling the waitress. The owner came over, grabbed their plates took them away and slammed the ticket on their table and told them there is nothing wrong with his food and to pay and get out. They were not given an option of a replacement meal and he told them they had to pay for both meals and both drinks and wouldnt honor the coupon. He was yelling at them and aggressive. Both ladies were scared at this point and wanted to pay for both drinks and leave. They ended up calling the police to escort them out as they were terrified of this man. My mom knew the police couldnt get involved in civil matters. She called them only to walk them out as they were fearful. They did pay the full ticket of $49 for 2 watered down drinks. This man basically committed theft on 2 elderly ladies. Ive never heard of a restaurant doing this. Its not like they ate the meal then said it was bad. They literally had one bite. So this man 1st off had low quality food, 2nd would not make a complaint right (inflated ego?), 3rd intimidated and terrified elderly women, 4th does not honor his own coupons and 5th stole from customers. The most upsetting thing was his aggression and humiliating two friends just going out to have a nice lunch. Anyone who chooses to go be warned, do not complain and know that he will treat you like dirt if you do. Horrible man and establishment. read more

I am giving Gregorio's only a 4 star because prices are a bit high; flour tortillas $1 dollar each, desert sopapillas $2.00 each. Most meals about a dollar or two higher than most mexican restaurants. HOWEVER; the mexican food at this restaurant is fantastic; 5***** for sure! Service also 5*****. Their sauces are about the best you will find and the sopapillas are as good as you will find anywhere (from mexico to texas, new mexico or colorado). This is a great neighborhood restaurant, family owned and operated. Every time I go in whether it be to pick up or dine in the owner greets me warmly with a friendly smile. The servings are huge and usually swimming in their spicy yet flavorful green chili (best I've had in the Denver metro area) My husband & I usually share a plate because neither of us can finish one on our own. OK, first off, I have to say that Gregorio's has the dankest Mexican food that I've ever tasted in my 30 years of human existence. The tortillas are fluffy, the meat is juicy, and the cheese is, well, cheesy. Although the crowd that frequents Gregorio's can range from the oldest people alive in Lakewood to a dozen bros that look like they just stumbled out of a frat party. That said, there's the cutest little waitress who always serves up a mean plate of enchiladas and a glass of cold horchata with the most adorable smile. Went with my family to have breakfast on day and I ordered pancakes. But when I bit into the first couple of bites I found a sharp piece of something in the pancake. I spit it out and found that it was a piece of the plate. When I told our waiter about it he called the owner over, he said that it must have come in the mix and I asked him how a piece of porcelain would be in the mix and he explained that sometimes beans have rocks in them. That is the craziest nonsense I have ever heard. After all that I was still expected to pay for my meal which was ridiculous since I didn't eat anything. He said that things like that always happen in the restaurant business, customer service is part of the restaurant business and this restaurant has none. Worst experience ever. read more

Used to live close and eat there almost once a week. Went there on vacation recently and they have really gone down hill! Green chili is now watery with hardly any pork. Large extra charge for side of sour cream ( no longer needed for the cooling effect)! We went here last night for our first time. We ordered the Steak Chile Rellenos and a Sopapilla Grande. We happened in on Mariachi night-- a little loud for our taste as it was hard to talk. The steak Chile Rellenos were certainly the best I've eaten and a very generous portion. We didn't enjoy the Sopapilla Grande (also a huge portion) as much, but we were so full on the Rellenos, we wouldn't have eaten it all anyway. The server was very nice. With as many Mexican restaurants as there are in the Denver area, it's not as easy as you would think to find a good one. We will definitely be going back to Gregorio's. read more

If you are a soup lover, this may be the place for you. I consider myself a soup connoisseur, and will try the soup about anywhere. Gregorio's Shrimp Soup is one of my favorites. It is the only thing I order. It is a broth based soup, probably chicken broth, with maybe a touch or tomato. Thin sliced potatoes, green peppers, and rice add to the mix along with peeled shrimp. The spicy broth is just the thing if you need pepping up in any way. It comes in a huge bowl, and is well worth the price. The fish and shrimp soup is also good, but I am really focused on the broth and the taste, so I just go for the shrimp. The friend who introduced me to Gregorio's highly recommends the chicken soup, and my husband always enjoys the enchiladas, but I can't really say too much about anything other than the soup. Which is five stars all by itself. read more

This is the best mexican food I have ever had! The steak chile rellanos are amazing. Gregorio himself can regularly be seen sitting watching tv. If you are lucky he will come talk to you and he is the nicest guy. We joke it is like seeing Mickey Mouse at Disney Land. We moved away from the Denver area and we sometimes make the hour and a half drive just to get steak chile rellanos. You cant find this quality anywhere else trust me I looked. read more

Got the steak chimichanga to go. It wasn't horrible, and the size was OK. But the rice & beans had absolutely no flavor. The green chili was very bland. A couple of bites had a very strong, unpleasant oregano flavor. The price was comparable to other places, but most of the other menu items were very expensive. I won't be back. read more
