Dr. Castello has been my family doctor for over 20 years. He has never once rushed an appointment or dismissed my concerns. I trust him with my children's medical care and that ought to tell you everything you need to know. He is thorough, patient and kind. Several years ago there was a problem with his billing department but he took steps to rectify the situation and there haven't been any problems since. He is an independent physician who believes in the practice of caring for his patients without some medical overlord group dictating what he can and cannot prescribe. If I were to move away, I'd travel to keep him as my doctor because he's that good. read more

I went to Dr Castello for hormone replacement. I felt as if the office environment was a little questionable. The medical assistant Jesse was very unprofessional and medically incompetent. Only looking to make money here, not care for patients. Dr. Castello needs to rethink his staffing situation and make himself more accessible. He refused to discuss the ridiculous office policy with me that I be seen every 3/4 months to be given my prescriptions despite the fact that I am a perfectly healthy 30-something. When I started at his office I had 4 appointments just to address my several very basic issues. He refuses to to discuss more than one thing per appointment, because they want to bill insurance and make money. I had a switch with my insurance company to a policy they no longer accept. I stupidly told the receptionist about this and her tone changed so unbelievably dramatically with me. The rudeness you cannot fathom, and she lied to me about legalities for prescription refills. I am finding a new physician and am left high and dry in the meantime because of a poor "bedside manner" by Dr. Castello and horrible customer service from his staff. read more

Dr. Castello is honest and knowledgeable in many different areas. Over the years my kids have gone there from strep throat to having school attention issues. When you go to urgent care you never know what your going to get! I've done that and have gone right back to Dr. Castello to get things right! Currently I am on the HCG diet to lose weight, and while it takes commitment on my part, the HCG does help you to not be as hungry! Already down 5 pounds! I don't understand the 1 star reviews. I saw the Dr for the first time a couple of months ago and he gave me all the time I needed although I knew he had other patients. He was nice and very professional. Very knowledgeable and I walked away with a free trial RX and prescription. I will see him again in a couple of months for a refill. This medical office only cares about how much money they can get out of you, they do not care about their "patients" or the well being of them once you step out of their office after being handed your receipt. The staff is beyond rude and do not work with the needs of the patients at all; they are not friendly, helpful, or professional on any level. I would recommend ANY place besides here unless you are looking for horrible care and being screwed out of your money for medical services. Very unhappy. read more

Dr. Castello is awesome. He was my grandmother's and my mother's doctor, and he has been my doctor since I moved to Illinois ten years ago. His staff always does their best to get me into the office when I need to get in quickly. He always makes me so comfortable, and never fails to put complicated medical stuff into funny, easy-to-understand way. I can't believe the other reviews here. They are older so maybe that has something to do with it. It appears that this Amy, office manager extraordinaire, that everyone seems to be raving about is no longer there. First of all, I want to say that his nurse, Barb, is the most friendly and down-to-earth person ever. Unfortunately, she is the exception, not the rule here. Make sure you take a prescription by paper; don't trust them to fax it! I waited over an hour at a pharmacy just for them to fax it. They didn't fax it until about 15 minutes before they closed, and then I waited another hour for the pharmacist to reach Dr. Castello because the script was not filled out completely (it was missing the dosage). Maybe this would have been a simple forgivable mistake, but the pharmacist told me that the office staff she spoke with was going to get the doctor for her to speak to until she overheard someone else instructing the staff member not to get the doctor and to just say he's unavailable. (Clearly he was still in the office and either he or one of his staff was just running interference, and I don't get why. :/) Then the poor pharmacist had to keep trying to call the after hours service and the after hours service had to keep trying to page him. Eventually, she did get through to him, but it was a whole ordeal. It was very frustrating and kind of embarrassing. I felt so guilty that that busy pharmacist's already very demanding job was being complicated by a few prescriptions for me, and I was appalled by what she said she had overheard. I mean, if a pharmacist has a question about a prescription, it should neither be avoided nor take over an hour to get an answer. Anyway, a little over two and a half hours after leaving the good doc's office, I had my prescriptions. Uggh. Still, I wanted to write this off as a mishap and give him the benefit of the doubt, but I have not been treated any better than that poor pharmacist. I had a question that I left with the receptionist: no call back. I had a test done and was told I would be telephoned, within a week, my results; over two weeks later: no phone call. If you have any questions (about a side effect of an Rx, for example) after leaving the office, you are basically screwed. He will not call you back; you will instead play telephone with one or more of the receptionists, who seem to only communicate half of what you say (or he's ignoring half of the message?). Bottom line: I don't know whether it is his staff or him that has been the problem here, but don't waste your time. I would not recommend to a friend. read more

While he is more than able to diagnose and treat his patients - he also takes the time to get to know them, and spends time educating on how to become healthier and prevent disease.. Dr. Castello is an excellent physician and humanitarian. I have kept him as my family doctor since my first visit about 20 years ago. He explains everything regarding your visit and treatment, and will address any questions or concerns. Dr. Castello has an independent practice. He is not an employee of a health group (He does still accept most ins). This allows him the freedom to treat patients in the manner that the doctor and patient can decide, not according to a company manual. Dr Castello will remain my doctor for life. read more

When things get serious, he hands me off like a hot potato away to just another doctor he personally knows and I have to pay his 'one time' (large) first time patient fee. He isn't edgy or old fashioned; just a hack and a coward. The only thing Dr. Castello cares about is how high he can bill your health insurance company and how many times he can get you to come into his office for a "follow up visit". I was recently at his office two months ago for my yearly physical (my health insurance covers one a year). While visiting with the doctor it was discovered that I had some anxiety issues. He wrote me a script for anti-depressants and only provided one refill. I asked the doctor if this would still count as my yearly physical visit because my health insurance carried a high deductible. The great doctor stated because he was writing an Rx he had to charge me and this didn't count as a physical visit. A month later I received a $350 bill in the mail and was also charged as a new patient (I seen him three years prior). When my prescription ran, because he only gave me one refill, I attempted to call the office to request a refill. The great doctor would not provide a refill unless I came into his office for a "visit". I advised the nurse on the phone that I felt great & the meds were working but my health insurance carried a high deductible and I did not have $200 to come visit him for five minutes. The doctor refused to fill my prescription and now I am off of my anti-depressants and have had trouble sleeping all week. A doctor is suppose to want to help and save people, Dr. Castello only cares about how much he can bill your insurance. To end on a positive note, his nurse Barb is hands down the best/most helpful nurse I have ever come across. read more
