I am a woman, I happen to have an uncle who is a mechanic who lives far away, he told me I got upsold by these idiots, but I was willing to pay it to have my car back quickly as I was promised that by this garage. They were horrible at communicating with me about my car. I had to call them a lot to get any kind of update. Also, today is Friday, they were supposed to have my car done on Wednesday, and if I hadn't called them, I wouldn't have gotten any word that it's STILL not done. I am new to this area. After having a horrible experience with Reno Vulcanizing in Sparks, I was recommended to Greg's Garage! Luckily I trusted my guidance and went forward with taking my car there. My initial experience walking into the business was quickly positive. Everyone was lovely and very friendly! I was taken to Daylen who really took care of me from beginning to end! I knew there was something going on with my car and it ended up being much more work than I imagined! I have to say here that I was suppose to have taken my car on Monday but I woke up that morning to find I had a flat tire of all things! So I had to get that taken care of first. I called Greg's and they said no problem you can come in tomorrow, Tuesday. They were flexible with me and I appreciated that! Daylen called me on Tuesday late in the afternoon to tell me what needed to happen to repair my car. It was extensive but I had no choice! I am 72 years old and Door Dashing to supplement my income. It's a long story but I could not live right now with the help of my daughter and amazing son-in-law! More miracles! Well I went a head and signed off the the work that needed to be done on my car at Greg's Garage! Daylen had told me up front that this was approximately 9 hours of work. I knew this would take patience on my part and it would be done when it was done! Daylen was very clear in his communication and explained that until that knew my car was ready and they had completed everything to their satisfaction, they would not call me. So my car was there 2 full days. Now another HUGE plus of Greg's Garage is that they offer a free shuttle to pick you up or take you home! I can't say enough about the gentlemen that were the drivers...Juan and Rick ! Please, if you use this shuttle opportunity...PLEASE TIP THE DRIVER! I was picked up on Thursday morning and my car was ready when we arrived at the garage! Daylen asked me if I had AAA and I said yes, I have had it for over 40 years! That saved me $100...Yippeee! I have been driving my car since I picked it up and what a difference! I feel blessed and I can tell that someone took their time to do the needed work on my car. I have no rating as I was going to bring my car in for valve gasket replacement. When quoted $800, I thought that was pretty high. After calling around and reading these reviews, I realized it most likely wasn't a good idea and I changed my mind. I will go somewhere else as their quote was entirely too high. Also, in their responses to customer complaints, I see more of how "great" their mechanics are and that they can be "trusted" and very little apologies. I cannot attest either way to their service, just that these reviews definitely made me shy away. Their will always be negative reviews that are unfounded but, wow! these are a lot of negatives. read more

Absolutely awful service at Greg's Garage. Took my truck in twice to fix an alignment issue and shelled out $2,000 for new control arm bushings they recommended. The truck's alignment is still off--now even worse than before. Their communication is horrendous; they never updated me unless I called them first. They repeatedly delayed the timeline without notice, and despite claiming to have realigned my truck on the second visit, they clearly hadn't. I had to consult another mechanic to confirm this. I called last eeek to schedule an appointment to have an oil change and have my tires evaluated for new ones. I was informed it was first come first served & it's best to get there before 8. When I arrived I stood in front of 2 gentlemen who when on the phone, for a long time. When 1 was on hold I asked about an oil change. He asked if I had an appointment. I said no, that I was informed to just come in. He just was very dismissive and rude. I wouldn't use this service ever, if this is how they treat customers just inquiring about service. read more

Engine light came on while traveling to Reno for Thanksgiving. Was referred to GG. Jeff and I talked on the phone before I came over: He couldn't take us until after the 4-day weekend but offered to run the codes so we can know what was going on. Had AZ do a code check the night before and it suggested a problem with the ABS. I reset the engine light. Jeff ran codes the next day to get greater detail: nothing. There wasn't any memory of a problem. Jeff explained how the light might have been generated and unless it came back on, we're fine. I was pleased by his friendliness and professionalism. Had the engine replaced in my truck, everything went smoothly, except when I went to pick up the truck it had a bad coolant leak and some of the gauges did not work. The garage did fix the issues, but the truck was not running correctly, and the garage found the intake manifold was leaking, they replaced the gasket , but the new engine was still not running correctly. The tech said the catalytic converter was clogged and they sent the truck to a muffler shop who charged me for a new catalytic converter. But when I checked the serial number of the catalytic converter it was the same serial number that was installed in 2014. So I was charged for a new catalytic converter that was never installed. I just took the truck and had another shop troubleshoot and found the distributer was installed incorrectly and the TPS sensor was bad along with the catalytic converter. Replaced the catalytic converter, and TPS, and re-timed the distributor and the truck ran like a champ. read more

Disappointed and felt scammed. First time here because I saw the TV ads. Brought my daughter's Hyundai in because it needed a starter. I would have done the job myself but she lives in a condo complex and can't work in the parking lot. I've owned and worked on dozens of vehicles over the past 35 years ranging from 1950's to 2000's. I'm not someone who usually takes a vehicle to a mechanic but I live 4 hours away and couldn't get the time to haul her car to my home. It was apparent to me that the Bendix was not engaging in the starter. Spoke with Jeff whom asked her a few questions about the battery and starter and agreed that it sounded like a bad Bendix from what we described. He suggested a diagnostic on the battery, starter, and alternator for $129.00. We agreed to that and I told him that she's a poor college student so he said she could get a 10% discount on the diagnostic. That never happened. Dropped the car off a few days later and my daughter got a call with an estimate of $1,450!!! She was in tears. It turns out that the shop did a "courtesy inspection" and "found" many other things that needed attention. This is what they found and the cost of repair: 1. 3rd brake light bulb is out, $60.82 2. Automatic transmission fluid drain/refill because it's dirty, $290.83 3. Reset Tire Pressure Monitoring System, $64.50 4. Brake fluid drain/refill because it's dirty, $109.99 5. Power steering drain/refill because it's dirty, $149.99 6. Windshield wiper service, $44.98 7. Air filter replacement: $21.11 8. Fuel/Air Induction service (cleaning intake, etc.), $179.99 GRAND TOTAL (without starter repair): $988.96 This car has 121,700 miles on it. Of course fluids are dirty. After hearing this, I called and spoke with Jeff. He suggested that these "safety" items be addressed and repaired. Probably a tactic used to scare young women into thinking they are going to die if they don't perform these services. This felt like a scam to me when all she needed done was a starter replaced. I expected the starter replacement to be a 2 hour job since the car has to be put on a lift and several things are in the way to get the starter out. The car was ready later in the afternoon and they charged $733.66!!! Just to replace a starter!!! After seeing the invoice, it broke down like this: Parts: $408.32 Labor: $268.51 (rate is $129/hr) Shop supplies: $21.32 Tax: $35.51 What I'd like to know is: 1. What shop supplies were used? Am I paying for the mechanic's gloves and hand soap? Because out of the dozens of starters I've had to replace in my lifetime, I've never needed any "shop supplies". It's a bogus fee. 2. Why do you charge $408.32 for a starter when prices from all the retailers range from $98-$318??? Was it gold plated? Were there other parts besides the starter? Last time I checked, there aren't any additional parts to replace a starter unless the mechanic breaks a bolt or a wire is bad and I didn't see either of those parts listed. 3. Did you even bother to ask if we wanted premium parts? Oh, but it does come with a 3 year warranty. The warranty is like putting lipstick on before you bend me over to screw me. It's pretty but it didn't make it any less painful. Will not be going here again. OVERPRICED and OVERRATED. read more

Taken two or three of my car is here overtime I got to say I've been pleasantly surprised a few times. They're professional courteous and they'll explain everything to you. You don't get the feeling that they're being shady because they've got so much work they don't have time to make stuff up. There's been a couple of times they couldn't fix my car and explain to me I needed to go to the dealer to get the part or they could help arrange for my car to get to the dealer. Now that's what I call service. And it's not just the front end reps it's also expense back to the guys doing the footwork when I was out picking up my car there was a mechanic and he could have snarled at me cuz I saw he was having trouble with something but when he saw me he's still smiled and said hello. Not that I needed that but that just shows they have a good culture. You good good value for your money everywhere is expensive now so you might as well go to somebody good like Greg's garage read more

Used this garage once in the past (within 12 months) and again yesterday. Let's focus on yesterday. We called ahead to secure an appointment and took two days off work for what they estimated to be the required time for repairs. Dropped the vehicle off Monday evening for a Tuesday service. Upon dropping the vehicle off we learned that whomever took our appointment as well as gave us an estimate didn't bother to check the box for both sides of the repair. (Ball joints) So the estimate dramatically changed. We still left the vehicle because we had taken the time off and it needed repairs. The following day at almost closing time we called to check the truck repair status because we had not received any updates. It was late in the afternoon and it turns out hey had done nothing. Their excuse; the mechanic who works on front ends wasn't in for whatever reason. Now, all of this was starting to add up to dissatisfaction. When we expressed that dissatisfaction, and reiterated the cost we incurred both in time off and travel ( we are 45 minutes away) only to have them completely disregard our scheduled appointment, we were met with evasive answers. We asked to speak to the shop manager. Not even being able to nail down when the work would start! He didn't call back until literally 5 minutes before he left. So when we went to return the call that we missed he was already gone. Absolutely no effort was made from that point forward to dissuade us from taking our truck somewhere else. A total waste of OUR TIME AND MONEY. My recommendation if you choose to use this place don't rely on them getting your vehicle done on any kind of schedule that they promise and don't expect any concern from them when they fail to deliver. read more

Here are some things that warranted this review: They fix what they say they are going to fix - this is the second time I've had a vehicle worked on by Greg's Garage and the second time I've been satisfied with the work. They charge what they say they are going to charge. They will pick up and drop off your vehicle. They do a General once over of things that might need work and go over them with you. They aren't the cheapest place I've ever had work done, but sometimes you get what you pay for. They are a locally owned shop and they are friendly. read more

Greg's Garage is a good place to get your car looked at and the will take care of you. They sent a letter in the mail to follow up on service they did to the vehicle a month ago. That is awesome customer service. I am sold with these guys. I will definitely be back to get my vehicle serviced here. I had to change my rating of these guy because they have stepped up their customer service. I am so glad I found these guys. The more I come here to get my vehicles looked at the more I like Greg's Garage. My wife was the one who told me about these guys and they have been taking care of her vehicles for a long time now. I am definitely a fan now. The service is good and they get it done. As with any place is Reno good mechanics are hard to find and once you can trust even more difficult. I am trusting these guys more and more. With that said they are pricey but I think anywhere you go there is a price to pay. But I think they are priced competitively to other mechanic shops around town. I just started trusting these guys more than the alternative. I have been to other mechanics who have pull a fast one on me and I would never wish that on anyone else. Because it cost a lot of time, money and just plain sucked if you have to pay for work on your vehicle just to have it break down on you. I will say they do get very busy so wait times can be a bit long but I feel they are worth the wait because I trust them now. Just keep that in mind. I usually leave my vehicle here for a while but I do have another vehicle to use in the mean time so that's not an issue for me. But it might be an issue for you. Looks like the auto repair business model these days, and the one that Greg's garage follows, is once they have a customer in the shop is to find and make up repairs to inflate their profits at the expense of the customer. I needed an air-conditioning fix and after I delivered the car got a long list of repairs and an estimate that was in the multi thousands of dollars. Three of the items they listed I had just done and another was a totally unnecessary charge. So caught them red handed. A whoops and jovial response didn't work with me and I stopped all work and picked up the car. Unfortunately they did little and charge me a lot and I just paid to get the car back and got out of there. I would never go to this shop and many others in the Reno area. They work on making a good presentation and a slick method of information and contact but in the end they may do good work but they are going to fleece you with no conscience that they are robbing their customers. read more

I brought my vehicle to Greg's Garage on a Wednesday morning at the appointment date. I asked that two minor items be checked. They did not have the appointment on their calendar. One employee verified hearing the appointment made. they did not look at the vehicle until the next day. The vehicle was there for 6 days until the following Monday. I received a bill for $1,661.55. I was surprised but paid it. When I got home I discovered neither one of the two items I brought the vehicle in for was checked, diagnosed or repaired. I am still in shock. read more

We took my Mother's car in for a tune up, after having the car all day they finally called to say it was ready. After picking it up and coming home I went to go to the store about 20 minutes later and the car would not start!!! I called Greg and told him what happened and he said that wasn't his problem! I told him it was since he just worked on the car and charged a fortune now it won't start. He said bring it in and they would look at it for a charge. I asked how I was supposed to do that when it wouldn'r start, he said well have it towed. I basically told him hell would freeze over before he or his people would ever touch the car again. Dropped my car off Sunday night to have the brakes repaired. Monday was told it needed a new MBC. Authorized the work ($1,500 job) and was promised it would be done by Friday. Got a call today from Mike saying it won't be ready until next week because they got the wrong part! They had the wrong part for at least two days but didn't bother to verify it until the day it was supposed to be ready? WTF? This has caused a major issue with me between work and related issues and is basically crap. Besides being the most expensive repair shop besides the dealer in the area, they clearly do not have the ability to keep their word. When it comes to car repairs, your word means everything especially when it is this expensive. Even "if" they are able to fix it (which is in doubt at this point) Extremely dissatisfied. Their commercial says "count on Greg's garage for service you can trust." I call BS! read more

Completely serviced vehicle for road trip. They mirrored the first shop, in estimate of what the vehicle needed. As, two opinions are helpful. So far, so good. The first shop installed new tires and did check everything. However, while they recommended certain repairs. They could not actually do the work. So, after Gregg's ran a diagnostic and physically checked everything. It was 100% cohesive. The front office is clean and friendly. They offer a comfortable waiting area. Have all sorts of drinks, etc. The most amazing and fun thing, is they have three dogs who are extremely friendly and one that will play catch and will get the ball every time. Seriously, some of life's best moments are enjoyed with a friendly game of catch with man's best friend. Made my day, with the mechanical friendliness, service and waiting area. oh, super p.s. they always cover the seats and floorboard. As to keep your vehicle clean. Super duper! read more

On March 2, 2023, we took our Subaru Crosstrek into Greg's Garage for some basic service, including a CVT transmission service fluid change. We had noticed a minor hesitation in shifting at low speeds, and thought we would start with a routine transmission service and see if that corrected the issue. Immediately upon receiving the car and driving away, multiple dashboard warning lights lit up simultaneously. Greg's Garage diagnosed the problem to be the Transmission Control Module (TCM). They had to order the part, we received the repaired car on March 21 (invoice attached, $1400.66). We drove the car home with no issues. The very next time driving the car, the same simultaneous warning lights came on. We drove the car again to Greg's Garage, where Mike again looked at the car in their parking lot. Mike called me and we discussed the transmission issue, and he was concerned that the transmission had a major problem and would potentially need to be replaced. At this point, we became concerned that Greg's Garage might be working beyond their area of mechanical expertise. Within a day, I stopped by the local Reno Subaru dealer and discussed the entire history with their service advisor. His immediate comment was that "they rarely if ever see a TCM go out, and that Greg's Garage likely misdiagnosed the problem". We took the car into Reno Subaru on March 28. They diagnosed the problem to be with the valve body. The service technician was very certain that the issue was the valve body and not a problem with the TCM. We authorized its replacement and received the car in good working order on March 30, with no problems ever since. This started the dialogue with Greg's Garage, first with service advisor Mike, then we were passed off to their "customer service manager" Lance. We told them we thought their repair was a misdiagnosis and that we wanted some financial consideration for their error. Lance agreed to take a look at the Subaru invoice and get back to me. Lance's first theory was that BOTH the TCM and the valve body were bad. We debated this and I reiterated that Subaru was very confident that they misdiagnosed the problem. Then Lance's reasoning took a turn, and he asked me if I still had the old TCM part. They were willing to reinstall the old TCM (presumably so that they could return the new part and get their money back!). This is where I lost complete confidence in their abilities, since what reputable mechanic would offer to reinstall a presumably defective part? At that point, I told him that we were not looking for a complete refund, and that we would be satisfied to split the difference and call it good. Essentially, a $700 obligation for both of us. He said he would speak to the owner Greg and get back to me. That was the last we've heard from Lance or anyone at Greg's garage. We never saw or spoke with Greg, he was probably out fishing or making more commercials to lure people in.... Their service is a joke, never again will we use Greg's Garage. FINAL NOTE: We filed a "quality of service claim" with VISA. Do not pursue this route, Visa is no help. If the new part they installed was in working order, there's nothing VISA will do, whether it was needed or not! Greg knew this, that's why he blew us off. Horrible experience. Nearly 3 weeks after dropping my vehicle off I stopped by to retrieve some belongings from my vehicle. I found 2 things; my vehicle had yet to be worked on, and there was damage on my bumper that was not there at the time of delivery. After being confronted about the lack of progress, Lance (who's name appears in nearly all negative reviews) informed me they would no longer be performing the repairs that the vehicle was originally there for and that they would not be addressing the damage caused by one of their employees. Lance informed me that if my vehicle wasn't picked up by the end of the day that he would be parking it on 6th street. Extremely unprofessional and unethical garage. Super helpful and efficient! Got my car towed into their shop since it would not start even after attempting to jump it. Lance pulled up its history and informed me of recalls my Lexus had on some parts. Didn't push me to purchase anything, just wanted to inform me which was honest of him. The problem started when my key broke from the base and transponder and got stuck in the ignition. The battery died afterwards. When I ordered my new key, I could not fit the transponder back in so I've just been using a new key with the old base close to it, and my car wouldn't start. Lance knew exactly what the problem was and fit the transponder into the new key. After jumping it again, my car finally started! Was such a simple fix, yet the two AAA employee, one who initially came and the other who towed my car to the shop, and my two "guy" friends (one who is a "mechanic") could not figure out the problem. The first AAA guy said it was something to do with the fuel pump. It was just the key... I was absolutely relieved it wasn't something more serious. Lance did not charge me anything and advised me to let my car charge for a few hours and I was on my way! Thank you thank you Greg's Garage!
