My experience with Grela to fix a problem with an older jet-pump well system was excellent. They scheduled appointments promptly and showed up as promised. Although they generally prefer to completely rebuild older wells, they did exactly what I wanted, which was to replace the old (and brittle) pipes leading into the well. Their work was top-notch and when they were done, everything they installed worked perfectly. As a home handyman, I especially appreciated that they worked with me and respected the ways I wanted things done. i dealt with george, larry, & office . it was a new build so we had plenty of time to schedule it in, so i received a nice discount for that. permitting in the town of salisbury was a nightmare (regulated by torrington area health district) and they did all that without complaining. on the day of the drilling they showed up early and were completly done by 1pm. price was what they quoted 2 months earlier. they are old school, hard working. honest & dependable. if you could find a better deal my advise would be " take it" read more

Highly recommend. On Father's day morning, our well pump stopped working. They responded to our call within 30 minutes and were at the house within a few hours (2 dad's showed up). I rarely give out 1 stars. However this company has been completely dishonest with me. I went with them as they were a trusted name in the business and I have a well on my newly purchased property. If at one point they made a name for themselves through good work, that standard had clearly slipped over the years as they employ lazy technicians and do not take responsibility for poor work that the technicians perform. Due to the work they performed, I have to now replace sections of piping & fixtures in my house due to them not property draining out my well tank or instructing me on how to do so beforehand. read more

I can't even give Grela a one star rating. We moved into our home in July and immediately realized there was something wrong with the well due to water pressure. It took them over a month to figure out what was wrong. And then once they finally decided we needed a new well they took another two FULL months to replace our well. They would show up for a few hours each week and we wouldn't hear from them in between visits unless we contacted them. Their communication was horrific and their overall services were so poorly handled. They do not care about their customers at all. We lived basically without water for three months. read more

My well pump died at midnight, when I was having a party with many guests the next afternoon. Grela took my call at 1:00 am, had a crew out by 8 a.m. and water was restored to my house by around 9:30. I was very grateful for the speedy service. read more

Grela received a signed contract to perform well drilling work on my property in September, 2020. Power lines from the street to my house had be dropped to permit Grela's equipment safe access to the well site for drilling, so this required clear and effective communication and coordination from Grela along with two utility companies and my neighbor. I received none From Grela. After two months of no work or communication, Grela claimed it was waiting for me to do something it never made clear to me needed to be done. When I complained about the delay and the lack of communication, Larry Grela refused to allow me to voice my concerns and hung the phone up on me. He thereafter refused to return my phone calls. After another two months had passed, I received a letter from Grela indicating, under false pretenses, that it would not complete the work it had been contracted to perform. So, four months after having signed a contract for well drilling work to be performed, Grela never even showed up on the property to start the job. Stay away from this unreliable and unprofessional business. read more

$260 for filling my well with water and was told that all 3 of my toilet is leaking. Plumber came and check the "leak" and I was told that my toilet is perfectly running okay. consulted a different Well Company and I was told that the problem was my filter just need to be change. Grela Company missed this easy fix problem and when I called to tell them I was told that I should know that after filling the well with water expect to change the filter. read more

Two years in a row these guys saved the day. In both instances, we had lightning strikes know out our well controllers. Like other reviewers, I called them at totally off-hours times and they had someone hear either immediately or the very next morning. The technicians are friendly, knowledgeable and patient. While everyone was friendly at Grela Well Drilling, at no point did anyone take a minute to discuss the cost of the repair. I went inside assuming they would assess the problem and give me an estimate, only to have them hand me a bill totaling nearly $1,600.00 for a 130 foot well. (I know an individual with a 300 foot well that totaled this) The pump by itself they marked up to $910, when you can pick up a 1/2 horsepower water pump for $500 at your local Lowes (which I would have done if they took the time to discuss pricing). To add to this they replaced another piece that was already tested and working just fine. I've remodeled two homes top to bottom and never once have I had a contractor or business not discuss pricing until they finish the job. That's like taking your car for an oil change and then having them hand you a $1,000 bill for other charges they decided to do without asking. It should be noted they had installed the original pump, which when viewed by an electrician was determined to be a very poor job of wiring. read more

Grela has been servicing the well at my home on an annual basis since they put it in 29 years ago. Up until recently I have been satisfied with their service. When they came out to service the system this year, they indicated that although there was no visible indication of a problem that I would need to replace a rather expensive unit. Because they had told me this same thing 4 or 5 years ago I was skeptical. Especially when they also failed to provide any explanation of what potential future problems might occur if the unit wasn't replaced. Therefore I told them I was not convinced that there was an immediate need and asked that they proceed with the service as usual. They refused, indicating that they were concerned that the required annual dismantling may cause damage to the unit. Even after I said that I was willing to take that chance and would accept the responsibility, they insisted that unless I purchased a new unit they would not service the system. Needless to say after having been a loyal customer for 29 years that came as a shock. I am now a very disappointed former customer, who refused to be taken advantage of. read more
