They charge by the hour for the work they do and we thought the final billing was reasonable and as we expected for the time involved from a skilled electrician. The fact that the electrician was such a nice guy was frosting on the cake. We needed two electrical issues cared for on relatively short notice - one involving a faulty smoke detector in a guest bedroom and the other isolating a cooktop circuit from existing kitchen adding an additional GFI. Neither major and the second not a code issue when our custom home was built five years ago but called out in a home inspection as recommended by the inspector as good idea and so we agreed to care for it. In our "past life" in other states where we also had custom homes built, we would have called the electrician who wired the home for the general contractor and they would have been responsive in no time. But in Eagle, the subs who worked for our (miserable experience) builder could care less about follow up after the fact. And so we asked an excellent realtor who her office might recommend to be responsive to care for these things and Alloway it was. In our belief that people who do good work themselves know people who do good work, this turned out to be a top notch recommendation. Alloway was able to have an electrician come out the day after my husband called them. Jerry arrived exactly in the "between X:00 and Y:00" service time window He checked both issues and explained what he would do to correct them. In both cases an additional piece-part was needed and in the case of one which was a new plug and to match the 'designer' plugs already in the kitchen backsplash and not something he had in his truck, he made a trip to a lighting supplier get one so all would be just right at install to coordinate with all the others. Not only did he do a great job, he was courteous and friendly and overall delightful to have in our home. And here I'd like to add a comment to balance out a 1 star review I see for Alloway on Yelp. It is this. Alloway charges by the hour. The other reviewer was unhappy that the electrician took the time to put his boots on and lace them when exiting her home to go to his truck and taking time to unlace the boots and take them off when he entered her house again after returning from his truck. But these guys, the guys in trades of all kinds, are doing that to protect homeowner flooring since work boots get dirty. I guess as a result of that review, Alloway's policy is now that their electricians slip on "protection booties" over their boots inside a home and slip them off when needing to go outside and on again coming in and... When I told Jerry no need for the 'booties' from my point of view, I was completely fine with work boots on the wood floors and I never expect guests to remove their shoes, he said it was company policy. So, thanks to them for taking care with homeowners floors. Another professional touch. But I'd be perfectly happy to pay the time for the couple of minutes max it takes them to put boots on and off too if that's what they preferred. We would use Alloway again...boots on or boots off!

My inspection from Jason with Grey Owl was set up thru my realtor. When I arrived Jason was 90% complete with his inspection. He had no problem while I shadowed him as he finished his inspection and he even took the time to explain everything as he went along. When he completed his inspection he took me thru his checklist and we went step by step explaining each item and any current issues, the severity of each one, potential problems I might encounter in the future, and fixes if any were required. When we were done he cleaned up after himself and returned everything back to the way he found it. Because of Jason's attention to detail Grey Owls service saved me thousands of dollars. Jason pointed out a faint water stain on an interior wall (one that myself or my realtor did not notice). He used a moisture meter to determine that the stain wasnt old and that there was recent water intrusion that couldnt be seen with the eyes so he suggested that I get it looked at before moving forward. Turns out that there was a 12" crack in the cement ceiling hidden behind the drywall that was allowing water to seep in. He also recommended that I get the split AC unit looked at because it wasn't working properly. That turned out to be a burned out circuit board that was shorting out. Luckily he caught those deficiencies and I was able to get the owners to repair and replace those things before I committed to closing. His personal report and and follow on email report was well written and professional. I have no doubt in Jason's and Grey Owl's level of expertise and his customer service is beyond reproach. I was happily surprised to receive this type of customer service in todays computerized hands off world and I attribute that to his time serving in the Military. I would without hesitation use his service again and would recommend his service to family and friends. read more

My husband and I used Grey Owl Inspections as highly recommended by our Broker. We were amazed of how thorough and professional he was as a home inspector. We were in escrow to buy our first home in Hauula and as he finished his inspection, he met with us and walked us though the entire house, in and out showing us all the massive termite damage we didn't even notice, the water in the walls that were concealed by the owners and the leak in the roof that was covered up in hopes he wouldn't detect it. He found everything the home owners were hiding! Because of his professionalism and his ability to do his job and service his clients 110%, we chose to bow out and find another home. He is very nice and good at what he does. He made us feel comfortable and we trusted the recommendation of my Broker who normally only deals with high end homes that he was very good and we were completely satisfied with his services. As for the previous negative review posted, they must be crazy! Possibly a angry listing agent! The listing agent for this house we were gonna buy was the listing agent from hell!! No joke! If I remembered her name I would Yelp her too! There is no way this guy did what he's saying. When we had our walk through, he was very cautious on using his little pick to show us the termite damage! He was so careful about that but made sure we could see what he was talking about as he showed us the damage. All in all, THANK YOU Grey Owl for finding all the hidden secrets that some home owners will try hide. You really saved my family from buying that home and all it's faults!! My husband and I recently were in escrow on a home in Hawaii. Grey Owl inspections was highly recommended to us by our Broker. We set a time to meet him after the inspection was over and all I can say is that he was extremely professional, super nice and made us feel so comfortable. He walked us through the entire home and showed us things we never even thought to look at. He found major termite damage, hidden patched work that was covering water damage in the walls and roof damage that also was trying to be hidden. He was very cautious about poking the termite damaged areas as he didn't want to make any unnecessary holes in the walls or beams. He did let us know that these things could be changed at cost but the thought of how the owners tried to conceal water damage in the wall next to an outlet that was too close and the roof saved my husband and I from purchasing a home that was not pono. Needless to say, we pulled out of the deal and ended up buying an AMAZING home somewhere else! As for that negative comment that was made on Yelp, there is no way this guy was anything like that! It must be some angry psycho listing agent who needs revenge or something. The listing agent that we dealt with was the demon from hell!! I should Yelp her too! haha In all seriousness, Grey Owl Inspections is professional, honest and will make sure they answer all your you questions and concerns. I have been meaning to write this review up for some time as we are now living in our home for five months now. My experience was nothing more than outstanding. We found the home of our dreams and had received a recommendation for Grey Owl Inspections from our Realtor. As others have said, when we arrived the home inspection was already mostly completed and we were ready for the walk through which Jason immediately started after introductions took place. We found Jason to be down to earth and easy to talk to, explaining his home inspection in layman terms. Jason talked about the findings and possible solutions. It put our mind at ease. I can't explain it any other way as a home purchase is such a big decision. The best businesses work through word of mouth, and this is no exception. Finding someone honest in the construction/home building business feels like a gamble at times. Nowadays it seems that people want to hear that everything is great, and receiving bad news about a prospective home is not the thing to do. I say that it is exactly to right thing to when purchasing a home, especially at Hawaii prices. Honesty is and will always be the right thing to do. Ivan completed the inspection of a potential home that my mom and I are purchasing. He was friendly, professional, and highly detailed with his report. He took us through what he found with respect to the exterior and interior areas of the home and explained in plain language what he found and what he suggested to monitor (this was an older home). He focused on safety as well and gave us other tips such as how to monitor moisture and potential leaks in areas with pipes. I don't understand the negative review, unless it is a "revenge" review posted by someone with anger-management issues Yelp is full of them, eh? Regardless, my experience with Jason was mighty different than what this Andrew fellow reports. Jason recently inspected a condo I just purchased in Waikiki and he was professional and thorough in every way. He found sneaky little issues with the electrical box that could easily have slipped through the cracks. His report was well-written & complete, his email communications were excellent and, in general, I was impressed. Our inspector was very professional, thorough and considerate. He was willing to take time out of his weekend and come inspect our home on a Sunday because that was the only day we were available for the walk-through. He finished on time and was already waiting for us to go through the assessment with him. We went through each room in detail and he pointed out many issues that I wouldn't have even considered. Grey Owl was the first company I'd ever hired to do a home inspection, and I selected it from a list after reading through the information posted on its website and checking client reviews. The process and the report were as efficient and timely as expected. The report was written and delivered to me in one day. I buy and flip houses in Hawaii for a living. I have used several different inspection companies on Oahu. I can tell you that Grey Owl has been the most responsive, knowledgeable and professional company I have worked with so far. Steve was very thorough and honest. He noted concerns with details such as washer drainage issue and electrical outlets outdated, as well as bigger items like drainage/settling observations and electrical wiring safety issues in the attic. Jason conducted my inspection. Half the house doesn't have a foundation and is sitting on dirt. He…read moremissed that. Termites eating the laminate floor in the kitchen. Missed that. Mold, termites, direct wood to dirt contact everywhere. Admitted he did a pour job. Informed me to get 3 bids for the damage. Turned it into his insurance that sent it to the legal department for denial. Talked to him on the phone and he laughed about it. Company is fraudulent to say the least.
