Just thinking about writing this review makes me so angry. My boyfriend and I are some of the most organized and detail-oriented people we know, but apparently Greyhound wanted to disprove us or make us feel completely screwed over. Our bus tickets from New York to Boston were purchased online. We arrived to our terminal 45 minutes early and waited in line patiently. When one of the staff members made logistical announcements, we listened carefully and mentally checked off all the reminders he told us. When we finally got to the front of the line, we presented our tickets on our mobile devices but were DENIED!!! Apparently these needed to be physically printed and presented. After the fact, I checked the email and signs around the terminal, and there was NO indication we needed to do this. Plus, the staff member said something about such an important announcement. The bus driver made us run upstairs to print our tickets, but the line was too long, and the customer service agents kept saying they couldn't print them. When all was said and done, we returned to the terminal with our printed tickets just in time to see the bus leave without us. It was already 7PM and the next bus wasn't scheduled to depart until 10PM. We couldn't even be guaranteed a seat on that bus. What the f*** century are we living in that we need to print our tickets and customer service agents can't even provide decent customer service?! Screw you, Greyhound. I've never felt so angry in my life, and the bitterness still lingers because of the crap operation you run. read more

Ugh I don't even know where to start. It was the scariest experience ever. Can you imagine being on a bus ride for 7 hours with no heat conditioner in a 90 degree temp????? It's insane I know...! Mind you, no shade, the toilet had a disastrous smell and OMG the bus headlights weren't on when it got dark (8:30 pm to 10pm). When the bus finally arrived to the station the driver didn't know the entrance and circled around the station 4 times, until he finally decided to open the door and ask a pedestrian where the entrance was!! With all of this happening, when I asked the driver to open the door in case someone dies because of the heat he answered "it's not my business". I have never written a review on anything...but this is something unacceptable and illegal way of doing business. read more

I was scheduled to board a 5.25 am bus to Boston so I reached the station at 5.05am but the schedule at station showed it was late by an hour and later when I called the customer representative I was told the bus is arriving my boarding station in a couple of minutes a few minutes later when I enquired with an agent at station I was told the bus already left at 5.30am. What was it a ghost bus that was invisible ??? Because if this inconvenience I had to reschedule all my work meetings. Greyhound you guys are way unprofessional and please train your staff to assist the customers. read more

Me and a friend were traveling to new York from boston at 6:30 in the morning. As we wake up we get an email that was sent at 11pm the night before our early ride that they had canclleed one of our $35 tickets and had given us a voucher for only $16. The bus we tried to ride had over 20 seats available and there was no reason to cancel one of these tickets, which was made quite clear as they never even gave us a explanation in the first place. As we were unaware of this change, as this change was made so incoveniently late at night we went normally and led the wrong way not only just though our tickets but also through the staff in the building making us missing the bus. As we try to understand the situation we were bribed by one of the bus drivers to give them $80 in cash each to get on one of the other buses next to us. We then went to customer service in which we were laughed, mocked, treated like children, and told multiple times to be quiet as explaining our story and our confusion. One of the staff interrupted us serval times as we were trying to explain to another staff member to make jokes about our intelligence levels and that we was our fault that our ticket was cancelled. As he went to help other passengers ever time he walked past us or made eye contact he snickers and smirked at us. We were met with no empathy and no kindness as we explained that we must be bus for meeting a friend who was sick and in the hospital. And no one was able to explain anything to explain why we were in the wrong or that we just messed up we were just met with the same "that's not how it works here" over and over again. If we had messed up and we needed to change something I absolutely would have been able to understand that and do what was needed to be done, but as even at this moment I have no idea what was wrong in the first place and was met with no humanity I cannot begin to empathy or understand the workers who treated me and friend so poorly and rude. Especially as the other passengers around us was 100x more helpful, kind, and understanding than the trained staff that are paid to be there. read more

Greyhound: never again!!! I booked a trip from NYC to Boston, but I was never showed the departure station prior to purchasing my ticket. I then realised my bus was scheduled to leave from the GWB station, uptown, which was not convenient at all to me. I went to the help desk at Port Authority to exchange my ticket (not even to get refunded) but the agent was cold and belligerent. He wanted to charge me an exchange fee, which was more expensive than the ticket itself. If my responsibility is to check trip details, theirs is to provide me with those details!!! I've been using Greyhound for the past couple of months. For a while, I was okay with the service because it seemed to be the cheapest means of traveling. In general, there are no promises of the bus having wifi or outlets for charging any device. The last trip I took will be enough to convince me to use another company (I'm thinking Peter Pan buses). I had a trip from NYC to Boston from 2:30pm to 7:05pm. The bus broke down in Worcester and the driver was incapable of giving the passengers an update on the timing of a second bus to get us. We ended up arriving back in Boston at 11:45pm (4 hours and 40 minutes late). I figured I'd reach out to the customer service to try to get a refund or voucher for the trouble. The website has pages about contacting them to file for a refund, but does not work upon submission. Even the button for general inquiries did not work. So, in order to contact them you have to sit on the phone on hold. I finally reached someone, but he told me that I never used the ticket and that the delay was only 30 minutes. After convincing him that it would be impossible for the delay to be 30 minutes because the second bus came out of Boston (travel time to our location is 35 minutes one way), he then told me the delay was 71 minutes. After being on the phone with him for ~30 minutes, I was randomly forced to give a survey and the call ended which I assume means the operator hung up on me. Upon attempting to reach out to them again, I waited on hold for 20 minutes and gave up. All in all, Greyhound has a non-existent customer service team, old buses they falsely claim to have wifi and electricity, and there is no promise the bus will arrive on time. read more

I rarely take buses, and my experience with Greyhound reinforced my hatred of buses. I was scheduled to leave Boston around 8 am, and arrived early to the Boston transit station. There was already a line at the gate, but I did not worry as I had priority seating. After about twenty minutes of waiting (around 7:50) a greyhound employee announced that there were two separate buses and two separate lines. Many people were in the wrong line and had to move. Luckily I was in the right line. Eight o'clock comes and goes and the people in the other line get on their bus and go. My line is still waiting. Our bus does not arrive until 8:30, thirty minutes late. The trip is ok; until we get into NYC. I understand that bus drivers need to be aggressive, but there is a difference between aggressive driving and over-aggressive. Our driver also told the bus that if they gave him cash he would drop them off along our route to the bus stop. Somewhat sketchy, but ok ‍ I finally arrived at Port Authority, about thirty minutes late. Fine- at least that trip was over. Going back to Boston was once again a rough trip. We were on another bus- not a Greyhound, but one thy was contracted out. It was an older bus and very uncomfortable. At least we arrived in Boston on time, so that was a plus. Had a TERRIBLE experience on a but from Pittsfield, Ma. to Boston, Ma. First, my bus was an hour and 15 minutes late. When it gets there the bus driver drives 15 minutes the WRONG way, and then comes on the intercom and asks if anyone on the bus has a GPS...there was only one other person besides myself on the bus at this point. When the other guy said he didn't have a phone at all and I said that I can't get GPS without an internet connection he pulls over and asks someone at the side of the road for directions. Then we drive 15 minutes to get back on track, no wonder the bus was an hour plus late! The bus driver tells us this is his first time making this trip and all he's been given is a paper with directions. When I realized this was going to be a long ride, I went to plug in my phone but it was a no-go. Although the busses have outlets and was advertised as having power it did not. Nor did it have WiFi, so I was unable to charge my phone or get the work done that I was planning on my commute. Then the bus driver started listening to a passenger that asserted herself in giving him directions. But the directions were clearly not right, because the driver kept getting lost at EVERY SINGLE stop. The bus ended up arriving 2 hours and 10 minutes late, making me late for work and several other passengers miss the doctor appointments that were the entire reason they were traveling to Boston. When I called to get a refund for my ticket, because I've never been on a bus with a driver who had absolutely no idea where he was going, they told me I couldn't speak to a supervisor, or email him or mail him a letter or even know his name! And all they could offer me was $19 of my $34 ticket back, or a full voucher for the $34 to be used towards a future purchase. I am incredibly unhappy with this service and will literally never use Greyhound again. read more

I went to NYC for New Years, and I bought a round trip ticket to Boston with these people. I bought into the hype that these folks have a new fleet, new buses, Internet access, Plug in Zone more room. But when it when to the station I met the junk buses they operate. I don't what time they operate but when It was time to board there were about 5 buses boarding and they were old, nasty , falling apart and deteriorating. The customer service has very terrible, and the bus driver was flying. most of the trip every metal piece may noise, rattling sounds from the seats. very, very bad experience. I was so tired that I didn't want to complaint but I said NEVER again with this company , not even if their ads say they have retired their greyhounds due to old age and now have pitbulls !!! Coming from Europe, I fully expected the means of public transportation in the US to lag, but Greyhound really takes the prize. Traveling from Boston to NY, on Friday the 14th of April. The bus was late approx. 1 hour to leave the station and overall, it was a 6-hour ride, people packed on top of one another. At one point the driver picked a fight with some of the passengers about what seat belonged to who, and a bunch of other passengers made wages on who's gonna win the fight. I used flixbus for the ride back, nobody fought with anyone else, and we had much more room, nobody was late, and the driver was really polite. Never again (unless I want to make a wager). read more

I was going to a wedding in Boston and had to go from Brooklyn NY to Boston and still being on budget for my family of six.The first bus to Boston was not very crowded and good as we all would hope or expected to happen when u made reservations. But when me and my family was on our way back we had to sit apart and far away from each other even though we have numbers 42-47. Even if u have ur ticket number the numbers don't even apply to ur seat number it's like the saying first come me first served even though we was first ones in line.The bus was dirty and the stench of the bathroom was unbelievable some seats had tears in them.(This bus ride was 4 hours and 30 minutes long) didn't enjoy not one second of the way back home. The thing I learnt is Greyhound is punctual as heck. I arrived 2 minutes late thanks to MBTA's slowww turn out at my stop. Not that leaving on time is a bad thing...just sucks on my part. 2 minutes! Godamn. 1 star downgrade because you have to pay for another ticket if you want to catch the next ride out. What I don't understand is why don't they just be generous and let customers catch the next ride out for free because a ticket has already been paid for. Lucrative corporate. It wasn't a weekend either, it was an anticipated fairly empty Monday morning ride. The replacement ticket was $20 and customer service was nice in explaining my options. My husband and I took a Greyhound Express bus from Boston to NYC on Tuesday and NYC to Boston on Wednesday this week. The web fare was $30 per ticket, round trip. The Express service guarantees all ticket holders a seat on the bus at that time (which isn't always the case with the regular Grayhound bus). The Express bus also has power outlets available by every seat and free wi-fi. The bus ride to NYC was great. Our driver was friendly, and ran ahead of schedule. He drove non-stop to NYC and even announced when Yankee Stadium was about to appear out the window so passengers could look. The bus ride back from NYC to Boston was a little disappointing, but I'd still take Grayhound's Express bus service again. The problem with the ride back is our bus didn't leave on time, and then made a stop at an Arby's putting us further behind schedule. I was annoyed, until we stopped on the side of the road about 20 minutes outside of Boston. A different bus had broken down and our bus was stopping to rescue the passengers who were stranded on the side of the road. The new passengers cheered when we made it to Boston, and I was happy I was lucky enough to be on the bus that saved the day, not the one that broke down. read more

The absolute worst!! My two hour bus was delayed by more than 4 hours and the management had absolutely no regrets conveying it. The guy at the counter was behaving as though am begging him for money. He also lied through his teeth that I'd need to only contact support for refunds, while the support helpline clearly says the fastest way to get refunds is through the counter. Couldn't have been a worse experience. Took an Uber and paid hundreds of dollars for my trip! read more

Things to expect from Greyhound when traveling to/from Boston and NYC: 1. Terrible, terrible customer service. I was once stuck on the side of the highway for nearly 2 hours (malfunctioning bus, we had just left Boston which was 45 min behind us) and had limited AC. It was 90 degrees out. I called customer service (number listed on the website) to complain while this was happening, only to be transferred 2x and told I didn't have the right number. Wtf. When I finally get hold of CS, they tell me that they have to "investigate", and to call back in a couple hours and/or talk to a manager when I arrive in NYC. I never received a call back nor receive a refund. Their social media team is 100% useless. 2. You will arrive late, expect a 20 min to 4 hours delay. Yes things happen like accidents, traffic, etc. but I can only ever remember arriving on time 1x and I've taken the bus a lot. 3. WiFi has never worked for me. Driver once claimed she was connected on her phone and asked passengers to raise their hand if they were able to connect. Zero hands. 4. The express bus is not supposed to make stops. However, there is a 50% chance it will make a stop. I guess it depends on who is driving. The last 5 trips or so, I've been on a relatively new bus so at least outlets work. Legroom is standard. Greyhound will get you to your destination... eventually. read more

Due to Winter Storm Nemo (February 2013), we ended up having to get last-minute bus tickets online for a Greyhound from Boston to DC (via NYC). There was a some glitch in the online system that caused it to say "no seats available" for 3 attempts. After a 4th desperate attempt, succes! We got 2 will-call tix ($100) for a bus leaving in one-and-a-half hours. Hmm. As we frantically started packing up, I called Greyhound to see if 1) I could print the tickets at home (no) and 2) what if we couldn't make it to the station an hour before the deadline? The not-very-pleasant representative said we had to be there an hour early. After a few more minutes, he said "if you're there a half-hour before, it's fine." Hm. Ok, great. We made it there on time and SOMEHOW got on 1 of the last buses out of the city (many people were on standby and I think did not get so lucky). The bus driver for our first bus (we switched in Port Authority, which - at 2am? Don't get me start...) was hilarious. He was joking around (especially with 1 passenger he'd allowed on from standby). The bathrooms on both buses, while of course a LITTLE stinky, were very clean. No sink, but they had hand sanitizer. The big pluses were: 1) fairly comfy seats & seat belts; 2) outlets in every seat for charging!; 3) foot rests! (The light above my husband was falling down at one point, but once he pushed it back in, it stayed there.) Overall, a great experience. Especially considering the storm panic and the fact that Fung Wah is now no longer an option. read more

Terrible experience using Greyhound. I had only ever used Peter Pan in the past and had great experiences. I decided to use greyhound to travel to NYC from Boston and back because of slightly cheaper fare and more convenient departure times. The trip to NYC was fine and I enjoyed the ride. Coming back was a very different experience. I arrived at the bus station and looked for my bus terminal only to not find my departure time listed. I asked an employee why I could not find it and they informed me I had been sold a ticket in between two departure times because they were overbooked and I had to wait around and try to get on a bus. I was not told this when I purchased the ticket which upset and stressed me out. Then I arrived at the bus terminal where I found a huge crowd waiting to board and I joined in the wait. It was about 12:15 pm and the 11:30 am and 12:00 pm depatures had still not left. We continued to wait as more time passed and more people arrived for their buses yet no buses showed up. At about 1 pm they told us that all buses for the day were temporarily postponed because they had no drivers available and that they could not guarantee a ride home till 8 am the following day (Monday). Unbelievable! We all were trying to get back to work the next day! Following this news I ran over to Peter Pan to buy a ticket for the next bus to Boston. This costed twice as much as my original ticket. Greyhound did guarantee refunds except I did not have time before my new bus to wait in the extremely slow (only one person working) refund line. I called over the phone which took forever to reach the right person. Then it took forever to receive the refund (till haven't received it yet). I will never use Greyhound again. I do not recommend this bus line. My experience was terrible. How do you run out of bus drivers for an entire day at 11:30 am! read more

South Station, Boston to Port Authority, NYC is a 3 hour and 45 minute drive. Being generous and assuming the advertised trip length is 4.5 hours because busses are slower, both the outgoing and return trip took 6.5 hours each way. The drivers take the longest possible route and drive along the roads with the most possible traffic. it would've taken less time for me to drive from NYC to Boston in my own car than continuing our trip after already being on the Bus for 2.5 hours. Will only be using Amtrak going forward. read more

I read all the Yelp reviews and still booked with Greyhound thinking maybe I would get lucky. I did not get lucky. An hour before my bus to New York was scheduled to leave, Greyhound left me a voicemail saying the trip had been canceled. I called them back to get a refund, only to be told that the bus wasn't actually canceled. When I got to the station, my bus was on the departure board, so I felt safe. Then, an employee sauntered up to the gate 10 minutes before departure time to tell us that bus was canceled again, and we were pretty much out of luck because the only other Greyhound bus to New York that day was also canceled. They said that if I was fast enough I might be able to get a refund and book with another line. They didn't give me the full refund, but because I was in a hurry to get on a bus before they all filled up, I didn't push it. Ridiculous. Never again. read more

It all started with my bus that was suppose to board at 10:10pm on Saturday October 21, 2017. Not ONE single announcement as to the bus being late, NOT ONE! We finally got on the bus at 11:15am, and then headed to NY around 11:30am when the original time was suppose to be 10:30am. I understand busses are late sometimes, but be open about it, just don't leave us hanging. To top it all off, pardon my expletives, but the fucking attendant literally threw my bag into the cargo hold right in front of me! I have my glass cologne in there, and some other stuff that may break! Really! You are an hour late and you don't give a shit about the bags? I don't care if you fought with it, but don't fucking throw it! And the Bus? Don't even get me started. Weird clicky noise every time we hit a bump. Loud engine noise. Clearly maintenance has not been kept up. This will be the absolute last time I take Greyhound Ever Again! Avoid this bus company at all costs. They changed the bus from Express from NYC to Boston and added a stop in CT. I had no choice but to take it even though I purchased "Express". Returning to NYC on Christmas with a ticket purchased for 6pm bus but getting to Boston way earlier due to Cape God's limited bus schedule. Greyhound has earlier buses have plenty of seats and the 6pm I'm scheduled on is crowded. I called and asked to switch to earlier bus and was told I'd have to pay $20 extra to change ticket time. Terrible bus. I'm going to stick to Bolt, commuter flights or the train next time. read more

I could tell you about how Greyhound bumped me to a bus 14 hours later. I could tell you about their rude customer service agents. I could tell you about the fact that I had to call my credit card company to dispute my charge because Greyhound refused to offer me a refund. But I'll just tell you this: it's not worth the price. To be honest I always switch between greyhound and megabus. Megabus use to have competitive pricing with direct routes which made it more attractive. Greyhound used to be more expensive and travel time would take longer due to the amount of stops and rest breaks. Now greyhound has cheaper pricing than megabus and more times to travel while megabus only travels once or twice a day. Last resort I chose greyhound due to more convenient time and costs. The bus driver who I've seen before is a very friendly old man. No complaints about the bus ride but in the middle I started feeling nauseated because I could smell urine and mothballs. I was sitting right up front so it wasn't due to the bathroom. I looked around and I didn't see anyone having an accident but it was so bothersome. I felt sick from the smell the whole way through. So yea I've rarely encountered problems with megabus and it seems like greyhound has more interesting passengers.. So it's your choice. read more

The worst bus company to book with. We were traveling from Boston to NYC and booked a round trip with greyhound buses company. We were delayed 3 hours+ because of some issue with the vehicle. Both trips were horrible. We spent over 7 hrs on the bus just for a 4 hour trip. The wifi was a joke there was no witi throughout the trip. Toilet and seats smelled and are outdated. I don't advise anyone to go with this company specially if you were a tourist. Absolutely horrible experience. read more

I purchased two tickets for my friend and I, and the bus is over an hour and a half late, an employee kept on telling us that the bus will arrive in 5 minutes the whole time. This is unacceptable and very unprofessional. I regret booking over Greyhound my ticket and will never do that again. I am very angry and I can't believe that a company like this doesn't offer any kinds of refunds for this unacceptable turning of events.I literally installed Yelp only to write this review. The staff is so unprofessional and rude, I went to talk to them about the bus being late and the staff member lied to me again that the bus would be there in 20 minutes, after it was already late 40. We are waiting here now for an hour and half and there is still no sign of any bus turning up. Shame on you and your company!!! read more

This bus service is entirely unprofessional. On top of having to print your own ticket, they make you wait long hours without even a call to say that they are running late. The people doing service don't even know where their buses are. They absolutely have no way of contacting them. The people of customer service seem to be incompetent as they only sought to give us terminal numbers that ended with us leaving a voicemail, and it seems they also wanted, instead of solving the problem, to MOVE our problem to some other person, because it is always a different person every time we call We waited for seven hours, at least, called the service about ten times in total over the course of the seven hours and still did not get a solution to our problem, or a status update on The bus which is the lack of communication between buses. The more we talked to customer service the more frustrated we got. "Just wait a little bit longer for the bus to arrive,mam" or "We understand, mam, and we are sorry but we are unable to do anything, because we don't have information on the wearabouts of the bus" also this is what frustrated us the most was the fact that even after we told them that we have been waiting for seven hours (the bus is seven hours late 5:45 pm - 12:45 am and counting) they still tell us "wait a little longer,mam" We were disappointed and frustrated with not only that the bus did not show up, but the incompetence of the company and how it conducts it service. Greyhound Bus Lines - This is my mom waiting with me at exactly 2:03 a.m. and still waiting - Buses Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

This is in fact a review for Greyhound. I need to talk about GoBuses first to give background/an example of how Greyhound could/should run their business. We took GoBuses to and from NYC via Cambridge, MA. I gave them the full five stars for their handling of cancellation of our original return trip, due to a Nor'easter. No one wants to have a trip of any kind delayed or cancelled. However, GoBuses emailed us notifying of the cancellation of service a bit before noon on the day before our scheduled trip and asked us to call customer service. When I called in they gave us the option of leaving early, that evening, or at various times on the day after next. This advance notice and providing the free rescheduling options were greatly appreciated and what I'd expect from a modern and well managed company. They cannot control the weather but they can and did respond to it in a thoughtful and helpful manner. We didn't immediately reschedule with GoBuses since we checked with Greyhound before doing so. Greyhound was still allowing bookings for the following day and confirmed they would still be running service when we called to ask. So, we booked tickets for the following day with Greyhound for a 1PM departure. We arrived the next day at the bus station to find a note on the ticket window stating that all bus service that day was cancelled - no email, no automated phone call, a note on the ticket window, like it's 1980. The lack of any kind of advance notice that service had been cancelled that day was completely unacceptable and resulted in us wasting half a day getting to the bus station. The lack of advance notice was also in addition to telling us the previous day that service would be running. We ultimately refunded the Greyhound purchase and went with GoBuses the next day. read more

Have this happen to anyone? Greyhound sold us a ticket for 2am in the morning and the bus never showed up and there was no one in the front desk to assist. They didn't even give our money back, it's not our fault they sold tickets and had no drivers. I don't want credit and I brought tickets for my friends. I wanted to take my family to New York City from Springfield, MA for the day. What should have been a 3 hour bus ride turned into a 5 and a half hour bus ride and there was no traffic. The driver, Sean Baxter, was the worst. By the time we got to New York, we had time for a quick lunch and then we had to get back on the bus and go home, The toilet on the bathroom was broken and the whole bus smelled, The WiFi didn't work. The outlets didn't work. The bus ride home was another 5 hours for no apparent reason. When I called customer service, after being put on hold for an hour, they checked the GPS records from the bus and told me the bus was only 22 minutes late getting into New York- a lie. The customer service representative, Andrea Acosta, was so rude to me, I just wanted my money back, but she was no help. I will never go greyhound again. read more
