I was so shocked when he lit up nonchalantly I had no words! I merely endured being smoked out for fear he'd put me out if I said something. wait times in the order of 30 to 40 mins even more sometimes are the norm without so much as an apology or explanation. If I ever win the lotto..ill buy the cab co. Just so I can FIRE the whole bunch of them. Oh and if I could give less than one star, I would!

The drivers were eating in their vehicles and had trash in the seats. The vehicles were not safe. The back seat bench actually lifted up when I sat down (I'm petite) and looked like it was not connected and was just cushion. The drivers were smoking in the vehicles prior to picking me up. I left the cab smelling like cigarettes and I don't even smoke. The fare was $3.00 before we even drove away. I needed a ride that was 3 minutes away (couldn't walk because of surgery) and it cost me $5.50 but when I was dropped off a couple miles further the day before that was only $7.00! On average it took anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes just to get picked up. I was seriously disappointed. Not representative of a good company. Not clean, not punctual, pricey for the distances, and they have drivers who are not familiar with some of the public places like hospitals and clinics. If anything they should know those locations.

My husband and I recently moved to Round Rock and had an international trip planned a few months…read morelater. We didn't want to leave our car parked at the Austin airport for 2 weeks, and knew we'd be jet-lagged on our return. I feel fortunate to have found A Cheap Ride and Pat Johnson. As it turned out, our first experience with Pat showed exactly how good he is. Our British Airways flight outbound was delayed, but we received little information on our end as to the reason for the delay or how late the flight might be. Coincidentally, Pat was expecting to pick up a passenger on the inbound non-stop from LHR (which was obviously delayed as well). Through Pat, we found out more than we were able to get online from the carrier! We were also delayed on our return flight, but Pat was there waiting in baggage claim for us. His service is simply over the top. We enjoyed conversing with Pat as he drove. Since he's been in the Austin/Round Rock area for many years, he's accumulated a wealth of knowledge about the area, local people, and local businesses. His retention of information and attention to detail are amazing. And while he's a careful and cautious driver, he made excellent time getting us to and from the airport. Pat is very much in touch with his customers, knows his business well, and cares about the quality of service his company provides. He is an excellent communicator, so you can feel confident that he will keep you informed as to when you'll be picked up. And, most importantly in this type of business, he is reliable, punctual, and does exactly what he says he will. I highly recommend A Cheap Ride for an excellent experience.

So this is a long overdue review for a business that sets the bar for what all other transportation…read moreservices should be. Years ago, I stumbled upon them on complete accident - funny how life works out. I had a very last-minute trip and needed a ride to the airport. I contemplated Uber but didn't trust their driver availability for an early morning flight. Pat promptly returned my call and I booked our first trip with him. We later found out he does field his own calls so he may not answer the phone if he is driving (which I appreciated when I was in the car). As others have mentioned, Pat is a great conversationalist and a wealth of information. Having grown up in the area, he knows it like the back of his hand. On a more recent airport trip, my SO discovered he forgot something, and Pat offered to make a stop at the store so we could buy it before we departed. This gesture alone demonstrates how above and beyond he is willing to go to make sure you have everything you need. Not only that, but he knew exactly where a store was when we were driving on a random section of Toll road. And there I was in the backseat still trying to pull up my Google Maps. It is his consistent attention to detail that we most appreciate. He texts us the day before pickup so we can sleep well knowing he'll be there tomorrow. He keeps an eye on our flight status and will text if there's any delays. He also keeps an eye on TSA wait times so we know what to expect when we get to the airport. And of course, all his cars are spotless, well-maintained and sanitized between each trip. The short of it is that this is a locally-owned business I am glad to continue to support for years to come. Thanks for your punctuality and professionalism at all the ungodly hours of the morning. See you on our next trip in a few months or so!

He picked me up in Llano and drove me about 40 minutes to Marble Falls where I had a U-Haul truck waiting, pointing out cool landmarks and places of interest along the way. We arrived at my destination in Marble Falls, only for me to discover that my U-Haul reservation had fallen through. I made some calls to find another option nearby, and Eugene was kind enough to wait around and stay in the area just in case I needed to go somewhere else. Sure enough, I needed another ride, and he was kind enough to provide it at no extra cost. Eugene is a great guy and the only person you should call for a ride when you're in the area - he will save your bacon like he saved mine!

We had two carseats for the ride which he very generously dropped back off at our house, and had the consideration to wrap them in plastic bags so they wouldn't get damaged. We had more people on a different airport ride, so he arranged another lovely driver with a van for us. I can't recommend him highly enough! Thank you, Gene!

The 51% =3 stars We started out on time and left Austin…read moreshortly after our 930 scheduled departure. Our trip up to Temple just to test the water to make sure that I would not get claustrophobic or motion sick was a huge success. We sat next to each other and loved the fact that we could both enjoy the scenery. We talked about how much fun it would be to take a scenic trip and our seats which were much larger and softer than airplane accommodations, I determined I likely would not get claustrophobic or motion sick. It was only a couple hour trip so we didn't do any exploring. I saw other people come and go and I know there were restrooms available downstairs. There was also an announcement from the dining car explaining that the passengers who had accommodation in their own sleeping quarters would also have first seating at lunch. When they were done the general public, (i.e.: coach class) could come down and eat as well. Evidently they also had snacks and food available at the time of the announcement as many people went ahead and got what smelled like a cooked meal along with snacks and beverages and brought them back to their seats. We really didn't know where to go or how to get to the dining car. It was all good -as I really had not planned on it anyway. Before we knew it we had passed through all the little towns including a couple of Amtrak stations and then reached our final destination of Temple Texas and their Amtrak station as the train then went on all the way to Chicago. The latter 49% of our train trial was really smeared. When we got to Temple we took a Lyft and had lunch in S Temple, and discovered there really wasn't much to do there other than shop. We came back to the station and wandered through the museum-which was really quite nice. In fact the entire Temple Amtrak Station was pleasant. Very clean and a nice attendant. (There was one food and beverage machine that was completely out of order.) The other soda machine worked - there were spotless restrooms and we did sit and wait a couple of hours in the air conditioning as it was quite hot outside as we waited for our 4:30 PM departure. Even though you're in a Station no one gives you any updates so until we went outside for the last half hour to await our train ....and I started looking up info on the app ...we did discover that it was running late. About 30 minutes. No big deal. Next time I looked it was over an hour delay. The next time an hour and a half and then after going back to the station to use the restroom and talking to the Amtrak person we found out that it was quite delayed and might be in by 7:30 PM. Indeed it did arrive about that time so that was a three hour delay and I consider that eXcessive even though I do understand it can't be controlled due to so many factors. I guess we left the station around 7:45 PM and it was predicted we would be in by about 9:45 PM. We showed our tickets and were instructed by one of the boarding people to get in the last car which we did. I have to admit I didn't even think about it I just followed instructions. When we opened the door to go in -we found seats in the very back of the train. The two ladies one sitting on the left side of the compartment & one sitting on the right continue chatting about the poor service, the filthy restrooms, the lack of attendants-especially for challenged people..... They were really very negative, & didn't have a nice thing to say. It discouraged me from trying to navigate to the restroom myself. Worse than that, I didn't realize that being in the last car would be very much like being on a roller coaster in the last car and we would be whipped around hither and yon. So between the movement and the smell it was a very unpleasant ride back with a delay about five minutes from the Austin station. We had to sit for 45 minutes waiting for three different trains to go by-evidently train travel with passengers is not a priority so other freight railroad carriers are able to stop the Amtrak trains to get their trains where they need to go. I was pretty discouraged by this but I haven't given up completely. Since this was essentially an experiment and I would say 51% of it was a success I will just end by saying to take the Amtrak train at your own risk. We would highly recommend getting a roomette or sleeping compartment of your own. I did let Amtrak know of my concerns.
