We took Greyhound Express instead of the other discount bus lines because it was just as cheap and it both left and arrived at places that were indoors. After a hellish experience waiting for a Megabus in the dead of winter in NYC, we decided to never again take a bus that you waited for outside. Greyhound Express costs the same as the other bus companies, has wi-fi, the driver is good, the bus is clean, etc. I see no reason to ever again take a bus that leaves from outside other than that this bus station is out of the way. It is just easier to take a bus that leaves from the middle of the city (whichever city) as opposed to where the bus station is located (which isn't always in the middle of the city). I would be give zero star if i can. The bus is always late and they don't even tell us exact delayed time nor No early delayed notification. This means u have to wait in the station until the bus comes. I rode greyhound more than 50 times and 5 time out of 4 times are delayed. The bus is also dirty and most of electric plugs are broken, which means u can't even charge ur phone during the ride. This will be my last time taking the greyhound bus. Let's face it...Greyhound runs frequently and is cheap. Those are 2 facts that will never change. And it's just a staple when you travel abouts the northeast area (NYC, Boston, DC). But really, some of the buses are just too old and uncomfortable, and I honestly always try to luck my way onto a Peter Pan bus, than one of the actual Greyhound ones. Entertainment on the bus is usually dependent on the driver...some will put on a movie, others could care less. The same goes for pit stops for food or bathroom breaks. So don't push your luck...just come prepared. When it comes to the Greyhound terminal in DC...I could have only hoped it was nicer. I mean, despite the increase of competing bus companies for the major routs of NY to DC and NY to Boston, Greyhound still does some fairly good business, you'd think they'd want to make nice the DC station. But maybe that's just me. I will say this about the drivers at the DC station, they are all about leaving on time and don't want anyone messing that up for them. read more

My mother is currently stranded at your Pittsburgh, PA station and has been since 6am this morning. She is 250 miles away from home and I cannot just hop and skip from DC to come and rescue her. Apparently, there was no driver available for her 7am departure from Pittsburgh, so she sat and waiting for the next bus. 10am came around and finally a bus arrived only to tell her that she could not be seated. The best thing that the ticket counter and manager of the bus station could do is reschedule her ticket for 7pm. My elderly, disabled mother has not eaten, showered, or slept since Greyhound picked her up at 10PM from Springfield, VA on 8/6, and Greyhound refuses to offer accommodations for lodging or another means of transportation. I have called three times to speak with someone at Greyhound and was told over and over that there is nothing that they can do, my mother will just have to wait. This is completely unacceptable! There are ADA laws in which Greyhound must follow when dealing with disabled patrons, so I decided that the DOJ should look into Greyhound practices. I also contact the FTC and the Department of Transportation. There are 5 other passengers that are stranded with my mother, and one of them has been at the facility for over 24 hours with no assistance from Greyhound. No lodging accommodations, no food vouchers, nothing. I will never ride Greyhound and neither will any of my friends or family members. I pray that my mother makes is safely to her destination by 4:50AM as promised (again) or I will be back on Yelp submitting another complaint. read more

The only thing Greyhound has going for it is that you can wait inside, which is nice when it's 22 degrees outside and the bus is 30 minutes late. Getting a new bus with outlets and WiFi is a crap-shoot, and one we lost. Take Bolt or Mega Bus instead. read more

I needed to go from DC to Worcester, Massachusetts and Greyhound is really the only bus that goes to Worcester so I booked a round trip ticket on Greyhound and that was a big mistake. I my case I wish I had taken the competition between DC & NYC and then limited my time on Greyhound between NYC & Worcester only. Without going into all the details I'll just say that of all the buses that operate in the Mid-Atlantic & North-East region Greyhound is the oldest, most inflexible, and behind-the-times of all the buses. If you're traveling to DC, Philly, NYC, or Boston (major cities) I highly recommend the completion for lower fares, more flexibility, and better amenities likes workable WiFi & outlets. I found Greyhound to be an old institutional-operation that's done things the same way for years and hasn't adapted to modern times. In comparison to their competition there is just no reason to pay more and get a lot less. read more

I wish I could give Greyhound 0 stars--my bus was on time, but they had overbooked it so I was bumped. They were so short drivers that those of us who were bumped had to wait 3 and a half hours before they could put us on another bus. When I called customer service, they had no record that passengers were left behind and therefore couldn't offer me a refund. It is the most poorly managed bus company that I have used so far, and the customer service is pretty abysmal. read more

I booked my bus tickets through their website, and I thought that I was getting a great deal. I think I understand now why when people say how service tends to go down whenever a single company has a monopoly over an industry. I had never really experienced such rood people in my entire life, until I rode Greyhound. Heaven forbid if someone had some type of question, the 2 drivers that I saw, responded almost in a threatening manner, and I was floored. It was an overall bad experience from the bus station, the lady at the ticket counter, the bus driver, and the actual bus itself. Only negative would be the ticket taker who kind of yelled at my students for detaching a their ticket from their receipt, when those tickets were actually detached at our home station. And a kind of a negative.. the dude didn't stop on the way to NYC.. but it was alright since the bathroom wasn't as narsty as some bathrooms I've seen. read more

We were expecting the worst after reading all the horrible reviews here on Yelp, but our roundtrip between Washington, DC and NYC in December went extremely smoothly, and--dare I say--even pleasantly. The tickets were just $32 per person and both non-stop trips were fewer than 15 minutes late (both times due to unexpected traffic). The buses were new and clean, with reclining seats and convenient 110 volt power outlets for our smartphones. Our first ride, from DC to NYC, was actually downright enjoyable. Our driver was quite a character! He kept announcing the craziest things over the PA system, and he had the whole bus laughing. He made jokes about running for president, stealing all our money, making us jump out of the bus at Port Authority, and he warned us about thieves doing delayed Christmas shopping with our luggage at the bus station. His cracks about Herman Cain were also appreciated. Our driver on the way back to DC was less entertaining, but he got us home efficiently. The bus terminals are dirty, as the other reviewers have noted, but what the hell do you expect from a bus terminal? The crackhead in the women's bathroom at Port Authority was perhaps a bit too friendly and keen on singing, but the bathroom cleaning lady promptly threw her out, with a kind but stern, "Honey, get outta my goddamn bathroom!" Greyhound may be hit or miss, judging by other reviewers' experiences, but I also think you have to have realistic expectations. And so, 5 stars for Greyhound DC! read more

BEWARE I booked a 100$ trip to nyc from dc. I had to reschedule my trip. I'm having a dental emergency and cannot go. Apparently I had an unexchangeable ticket and even though I cancelled iced a day in advance, greyhound would NOT work with me. By giving me NOTHING in return, greyhound has STOLEN 94 dollars from me. That's unacceptable.. I have not ONCE experienced a situation during the pandemic in which a company is not flexible with medical emergencies. I have been using Greyhound to go to NYC twice a year for the last 15 years, even though it's more expensive than other buses. With the dozens of bus companies around with cheaper fares, I find it curious that greyhound doesn't care about a loyal traveler. Oh well, I'm taking the train now. Their rates are the same as the train, by the way. I did reschedule my trip - but I did it with Amtrak - who by the way has been flexible in the past with medical emergencies. No one needs to take Greyhound's janky buses. The past couple times I've had issues with Wifi and uncomfortable, ancient, non-Greyhound buses showing up. If I do take the bus to NYC again, I will CERTAINLY NOT use a greyhound bus again. The nerve. read more

Greyhound bus in DC is the worst. I never seen anything like it, check in and the tell you to get in line E. Bus was supposed to leave for NY at 2:10 a.m., the bus arrived about 2:40 to unload which some people stayed on. They started telling folks to get out the line, and they would have to get on megabus. It was cold and rainy outside, then they come back and get more people out the line after waiting for over an hour. Saying you need to get in line, get a refund and go over to megabus. I think personally they should have offered free tickets for the inconvenience. You thinking you are going by greyhound, just to get put on megabus. If that is the case, I would have got a megabus ticket from the start. No more greyhound. And this was for my son alone, his first time taking greyhound or going on his first trip alone. Imagine boarding a bus that you expect to be on for the next 5-6 hours, only to find about 10 minutes into the ride that the whole bus is infested with ROACHES. Everywhere. I was luck enough to be traveling with a companion who noticed that there was roach crawling towards me on the chair while I was laying down. We were hoping that this was a one-off thing, but when we quickly looked around on the floor around us, it was clear that the situation was sooooo much worse than we had expected. It was so bad some passengers had to get up from our seats and stand. There were roaches crawling between the seats, coming in and out of the floor vent. Some were small, some huge. Some dead. It's like Greyhound was offering an array of options to creep us out. We were lucky that the bus had a stop to make on our way to NYC ( we were returning from D.C.)- most passengers raised enough concern that we were given another bus to complete the remainder of the trip. Even after the transfer, I was still grossed out and checking my surroundings every now and then, just in case. Surprisingly, Greyhound does not see these conditions as being terrible. On principle, all passengers on the bus should have been given full refunds and an assurance that the bus would be thoroughly fumigated for future use. This never happened. The delay caused by the roach infestation was of more importance to the Customer Service Department's supervisor, Lissette, than the actual infestation itself and since the delay wasn't major, the complaint wasn't taken seriously. Very disappointed in how Greyhound handled this issue. read more

The worst bus line ever!! Do not take Greyhound, even if you have to pay twice the amount on another bus line. The first time I took greyhound, the bus was over an hour late and on top that, the driver didn't know how to get to the Washington DC from Richmond so we got lost! My second experience was even worse. I bought the ticket at an agent location and got a receipt. Apparently, I needed a paper copy of the confirmation in addition to the receipt and the email confirmation. (The email confirmation has the exact same information as the printed confirmation). The bus driver was soo rude and wouldn't let me on the bus because my confirmation wasn't printed. Then I went to customer service to have them print the ticket and was told that they cannot print a second copy of my confirmation. I couldn't get on the bus and I lost my money. The ladies at customer service were so rude and couldn't care less about you as a customer. Just don't do it. Don't take Greyhound, ever. read more

I will give (minus ten) - 10 stars as my rating. I was in in NewYork yesterday and waiting for 4 pm bus to Washington DC. We were waiting till 6.30 pm for bus and finally with lots of trouble we got bus at 6.40 pm. No announcement why bus was delayed or no information available in Greyhound customer help desk and no proper response. I missed my connecting train from Washington DC because of delay and have to wait in Union station all night till next day morning. No proper status updated in Greyhound website and shows all buses are on road. People have to report in office Monday morning ,ladies ,kids , old people were waiting for more than 2 hours and 30 minutes without any proper notification or response. Lastly they notified there are no drivers. If no drivers available then why Greyhound have schedules at that time. DON'T PREFER GREYHOUND. GREYHOUND will make your trip from Best to WORST. read more

This review has to do with my CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE, not with the station or anyone at the station in DC. Greyhound is pretty much horrid. I'm an avid megabus rider, and a friend of mine said I should try them as they have done a good job of competing with really nice buses and convenient fares. I bought a ticket (even though it was more expensive than mega or bolt) and was scheduled to go the weekend of a huge northeast snow storm. I called the day of my trip and was advised that they would let me reschedule, with no exchange fee, for a later date. Now I've been on the phone with them all morning. They can't do an exchange over the phone, I have to drive 30miles to DC to walk up to a counter to do exactly what they apparently had no problem doing online/phone when they first took my money. To make matters worse, everyone that I spoke to (i called five different times) was rude, dismissive, and didn't really try to help at all. One lady told me to MAIL my paper ticket to them and in 6-8 weeks they'll get back to me on if they will refund it. In the mean time, buy another ticket. o_O HA! I called my credit card company and disputed the charge. Terrible. I will NEVER travel greyhound again. At megabus, when I have called in, they reissue or update an itinerary, without too much issue. Antiquated and rude customer service is so 1997,...try megabus or boltbus,..heck go to china town and take one of the backalley buses, they are all better than this! read more

Hands down the worse service. No one wants to answer any questions. It just have are a few lines labeled A-E. The employees just shuffle you from line to line. To make things worse, they blame their tardiness on nonexistence protests. I heard the employees say that there was a Black Lives Matter Protest outside of the building, which prevented the buses from entering the building. There was no protest outside of Union Station. The last time I took a Greyhound/Peter Pan was over a year ago. The service was so bad they sent me a voucher. I attempted to use my voucher for my trip today. I should have just burned the voucher, and taken my chances with another bus company. read more

Was told by the representative that changing the ticket is $20 (more than the original ticket price), that it's too late to get a new one online (lie, I got my original one 30 min before) and that it's $45 in cash (another lie, it was 19 just like the original). Even the Chinatown bus will try to get you on the next bus if there's room instead of gouging you got the next one. read more

Once again amazed by the ineptitude of the Union Station Greyhound. Bus schedule 2858 on 3/4 was scheduled as an Express (and still is according to the Greyhound site). But without informing the passengers, the bus made 3 stops between DC and New York, dragging the scheduled "express" 4 hour trip to a decidedly unexpress 6 hours. The driver gave us little explanation and didn't expedite the stops; each stop took 20-30 minutes and the driver would disappear during that time. We draw our conclusions based on our own experience with any business. And for this one, my conclusion is: this is a business that lacks basic decency and respect for its customers. My very FIRST Greyhound bus trip, ever in my whole life, from Washington D.C. to Newark NJ, booked 18 days ahead, was cancelled; and, there was NO notice whatsoever came to me. They had my cell#, they had my email, but, nothing came, none, zero. I only found that out before departure when I arrived at the station and presented by ticket. I asked for a reason. The answer: no driver. WHAT THE $%#@!! Which planet was I standing on?! Is this how a 100-year old company runs its business?! Well, the good thing is, that was also my very LAST Greyhound bus ticket, and I will now have one less bus line to worry about when I make my next booking. read more

The worst. I am traveling from Union Station, DC to Richmond. There are lanes marked A - E but no one to tell you which line is Richmond. All the people working there are just talking to each other. When the driver checked my e-ticket, he just said, "That's not the ticket." He didn't say, "You need to click here to see the actual ticket." The guy was really rude. Then they loaded my bag into the baggage compartment. They put it on top of a tall pile of bags. I looked like it was going to fall as soon as the bus moved. So I asked if they could move it to the floor. The guy said "No, do it yourself." So, if you like customer service, don't take Greyhound. And their prices are higher than Megabus where I was treated very nicely on my trip from Pittsburgh to DC. Greyhound deserves its bad reputation. Like other reviews, I wish I could give Greyhound zero stars! I purchased a ticked for my mother who's in her 70s and she was supposed to leave this morning at 8:10 am for NY then transfer to another bus to DC. At 8:45 am she called me and told me her bus never came! She and my stepfather, who's in his 80s, waited in the cold for over an hr. I never received a text or an email stating there were any issues with the bus. When I called Greyhound, the customer service person told me that the bus didn't stop at that location today. Say what?! My mom has taken the bus from this location numerous of times. If the bus wasn't stopping at this location why was I notified?! I included my phone nr. and email for notifications. Also, another thing I hate about Greyhound, if you purchase a ticket for someone else, which I did as my mom is elderly and would not be able to purchase a ticket online, they charge you extra $18! I've never seen such surcharge with any other business. The one way ticket cost close to $100. I looked at Peterpan bus for the same date and the tickets were anywhere from $25-$33. My mom and I decided to got with Greyhound as we thought it would be better quality. We were certainly wrong. We will never use Greyhound again! read more
