This bus company charges $15.00 excess baggage fees, and expired tickets are not honored unless paying a $20.00 change fee for a $23.00 bus ticket from Washington DC to New York. And, they only take cash, not credit card, for the change fee or excess baggage fee. Never did I experience having to pay a change fee on Greyhound anywhere I rode it in California. Understaffed, and the majority of the staff in DC, Richmond, and Raleigh are rude (one was so bad he had a woman in tears when he blamed her for missing her bus, although it was actually his fault for being...), dismissive, and condescending. All pre-paid ticketing kiosks are broken, so have fun waiting in line with every jerk who wants to ask a million questions or can't afford to check six over-sized bags. They overbook and often don't have a back-up bus prepared to take the extra passengers. So what happens then? You wait an indefinite time period until another driver comes with another bus. The last time this happened, I waited an hour with 25 other people. Absurd. Everything is filthy dirty, a pleasant reminder that you are riding the bottom of the mass-transit totem pole. Contrary to what other people say, I have never been on a bus that departs on time or arrives on time. For example, my last (and LAST...iHope) Greyhound trip was to Raleigh. We were supposed to arrive at 6:30 pm, but because of a staffing issue (see above criticism), we sat in Richmond for two hours (with no one willing to explain what was happening) and didn't arrive in Raleigh until 8:30pm. Several people missed their connections or arrived at their destination long after public transport had stopped running for the night. I've ridden better buses in third-world countries (e.g. one had bus attendants, meals delivered, etc. Was a dream by comparison). read more

Both times i've taken the bus south from DC, it's been a troublesome, even dangerous experience (there was a fistfight, my first time)...but somehow I look back fondly on these trips, probably just because i'm happy that I survived. There is always confusion and delays, it seems. Last time, on my trip to Raleigh, there was no bus driver. It was minutes to departure time, we were all sitting outside the bus, and then all the sudden, these two drivers are arguing about who will take us to Raleigh. They both left to find a manager, and after a long wait, some different lady came to drive our bus. If you have infinite patience and an appreciation for the lighter side of travel, plus a good life insurance policy, then Greyhound is for you. At least it's cheaper than flying. read more

Let me start off by saying that the address listed is incorrect. Washington DC has consolidated it's bus operations to the Union Station parking garage. I don't know the address but it's on Mass. Ave. In any event, this is my favorite service to New York City for two reasons: 1) Cheapest last minute fares ($13-$14 each way compared to $20-$30 on Bolt/Mega) 2) Best bus stop location in New York City (Port Authority Bus Terminal) as opposed to crowded street corners, or in the case of Mega Bus, a corner pretty far off the beaten path. In regards to #2, for some reason many people prefer the street corner locations to the bus terminal. Call me old fashioned, but I'd rather wait inside than outside in the freezing rain. Plus, the bus terminal is so much closer to Times Square, which is where I want to be. read more

Definitely consider other transportation options before resorting to Greyhound. The "cheaper price" isn't worth the hassle and inconvenience. Had our bus arrived to pick us up on time, or even half an hour to an hour later than scheduled, then I would not be writing this review. However, my friend and I, along with about 15-20 other people, waited for almost two hours with barely any news from Greyhound reps regarding the whereabouts of our bus. Instead, we received $25 paper vouchers to use for our next trip and to compensate for the bus delay. **Please note that not only is the voucher not accepted online, but even after using it in person, it will still cost you two times the online bus fare -- one way $23 online vs. $46 ($71-$25 voucher in person) -- changing the point of a voucher from saving money to spending DOUBLE the money. Voucher = useless. My friend and I somehow managed to get a refund at the DC Greyhound station and sought alternative ways to get to Pittsburgh, but upon trying to buy a one-way ticket back to DC at the Pittsburgh Greyhound station, we were so frustrated with their almost non-existent customer service, that we decided no voucher or additional time and money was worth it to use Greyhound services. (Though Greyhound can't be blamed for a late bus, they need to step their game up in terms of customer service and overall management.) We bought a Megabus ticket instead ($32), which was the best decision we made. Though a more expensive ticket, our bus arrived on time to pick us up and we were on our way to DC as scheduled. Took the Greyhound bus from NYC back to Washington, DC. There was an indoor terminal, which was nice, but the terminal itself was dirty and gross. The bus does not get there on time, and we wait for half an hour for us to actually board. The ticketer was absolutely rude. We wondered aloud why there were two areas for Washington, DC, and he basically snaps, "Because there are two buses." How are we supposed to know that, when there is/was no other indication of multiple buses? Hey, maybe the guy was cranky--it was, after all, 1:30 in the morning. But it's Your Job to remain courteous and professional in circumstances like that, and it wasn't as if we were being loud, obnoxious, or rude to begin with. From experience, it take 4 hours to go between NYC & DC. It took 8. There was something wrong with the bus, so I would understand if there was some delay, but if Greyhound was an efficient, professional bus line (which it is not), we would not have had to be on a motionless bus for an hour waiting for a transfer. Not only that, but once we get to Baltimore, MD, there is an additional delay that was absolutely unnecessary. No bus ride should take twice as long as the entire trip. Tips: you can reach this garage via H Street and avoid the Union Station mess. Also, get express if at all possible. The buses are way nicer and supposedly your spot is actually reserved. You still have to check to see if the bus makes stops though. Pros: The express buses are generally very nice (comparable to Bolt or Mega, in my opinion), the drivers are funny, and they're almost always on time. And after all, you can't beat the price. No they are not as fun of yuppies as the alternatives, so if that's your thing now you know. But I'm a little disappointed with this station in particular. I generally prefer Greyhound to Bolt and Mega because I like the structure: there are usually people working and clear lines and sometimes even boarding numbers. My Bolt experiences have usually involved standing on the side of a random street in the rain just hoping I was in the right line, only to be trampled by a mob getting on a bus. This is specifically important to me because I will get there as early as necessary not to sit on the back of the bus, because I get really carsick. But the DC station doesn't do this. Like all greyhound stations, they demand that you arrive an hour early. The sign says you can line up half an hour early. But this week, I boarded 10 minutes early. Boarding numbers are irrelevant, it's a free for all. Why did I have to get there so early? Something about luggage, she mumbled. But luggage just gets tossed under the bus as you board. Not cool. Im sitting on this greyhound bus for a few hours now and all I keep wondering is how in the world does a country like the USA has such HORRIBLE bus transportation.. I mean, even the cheapest lower class buses in Mexico are better than these. And even the smallest , poorest town in Mexico has cleaner bus stations than the greyhound stations, with the exception of Portland. Now, I havent even gotten started with the customer service, starting with the lady at the ticketing booth in seattle, to the drivers.. with the exception of the driver that drove us from seattle to portland. You can't beat the price: $35 for NYC-DC r/t http://www.greyhound.com/scripts/en/TicketCenter/esavers.asp The DC station is about a ten-minute walk from either the Union Station or New York Ave metros (Red Line). There's no cab service to speak of. (Sometimes random aggressive guys out front will offer to sell you a ride -- but they don't have real cabs and they've acted just sketchy enough to make me wary). The NYC station is very close to Times Square - you can take the underground maze to a bunch of subway lines including the S shuttle. The buses are cramped, they break down on occasion, and the seats in the back smell not so fresh (that's where the toilet is). But they get you where you need to go in one piece. And last time they played Akeelah and the Bee, such a cute movie. If you think it'll be crowded (e.g. holiday weekends, etc.) try to get to the station at least a half hour early. They overbook, and if your bus fills up, they may or may not add a second bus. You could get stuck waiting for the next bus. read more

I used Boltbus (which is a greyhound company) to get to DC, but on the way back from DC to Philadelphia I booked in the last minute an $18 ticket through the web, using the Greyhound buses. I was scared that the bad reviews here will be a true story but in my point of view, everything went well. The ride was supposed to be 3 hours, it took a little more, and I didnàt like the fact that I have to be one hour before at the terminal to get my ticket. But it was one of the best bus rides I took in my life. The bus was quite new, with leg room, Wi-Fi (very spotty), and AC power sockets. Me and my girl sat and enjoyed talking to our friends over seas through Skype, listen to music watched a movie on our laptop, while the laptop was charging. I think what is called Greyhound Express, is far better service than the old Greyhound that have such a bad name. read more

I sense the popular thing to do is to bash Greyhound while admitting they have the best deal in town. I'll simply talk about my experience this weekend on a round trip from DC to Hartford, Connecticut. I arrived at DC Union Station on Friday morning about 30 minutes prior to my scheduled 8:30 AM departure. I had purchased my ticket online about 3 weeks before - $123 total. I picked up my ticket(s) at the main desk. The bus took off around 8:35 AM to NYC, my connecting station, with a scheduled arrival time of 12:45 PM. The comfort was almost non-existent on the bus, but luckily I had a window seat so I could lean over & nap. We got to NYC on time, give or take 10 minutes. I realized, going back to my pre-college Greyhound travels, that you can usually catch an earlier bus if space permits. So instead of waiting until 2:00 PM to catch my Hartford bus, I hopped on the 1:25 PM one. I didn't have to ask, I just got in line and handed my ticket over when prompted. We got to Hartford around 4:15, which was great. After kicking it with my two cousins, their spouses & friends for Thanksgiving weekend (nice work on my liver, Patron!) and using the same tactic I used to catch my NYC-to-Hartford bus, I caught the 1:30 PM NYC bus today, Sunday. This was frickin' awesome, considering my ticket was for a 7:55 PM departure! As I yelp this, I am on the NYC-to-DC bus, which I caught at 4:45 PM, a full 8 hours before my printed departure time. If Google Maps holds true, I should be back in DC by 9:30 PM. I purposely wrote as much detail and least sensationalism as I could to show you guys that not everyone has a living nightmare on their buses. I actually enjoyed mine. Do I resent the lack of comfort? Sure. Do I wish some of the less hygiene-oriented individuals at their stations would loiter elsewhere? Of course. But I got what I needed. For a very good price. Absolutely horrendous. If you can take Megabus or Boltbus, do that instead. I was at stations in DC, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Chicago and they were all bad but DC's was the worst. I understand that there was a hurricane and it messed a lot of things up. However, that's no excuse for every single person that I interacted with to be incredibly rude. Not only were they rude, but when they canceled my bus, they gave me the wrong time for the next bus and delayed me even further. Just to add insult to injury, they also lost my luggage. Yes, the Wifi is nice but that's really the only perk to the Greyhound. If you have to travel, I definitely recommend finding a different way than Greyhound. read more

Now, I haven't rode a Greyhound bus since my sophomore year of college, so about 3 years ago. When I rode it then, it wasn't all that bad, but that was from a different starting point (MS). Anyway, first things first, the bus terminal is now inside of Union Station. It isn't filthy or anything. I mean the pigeons are pretty bold and will walk right up to you, probably because everyone has food. It serves it's purpose and the staff were pretty competent at helping myself and others find the right line. The buses are upgraded since the last time I rode, so now I have an outlet to charge my phone and the seats aren't nearly as rock hard as a I remember, it doesn't beat an actual bed, but it'll do. While the buses are equipped with wifi, it's very slow and doesn't really work, that's a huge let down, but I can live. The worst and best part of going with Greyhound is who you ride with. Some people have poor hygiene and your nose hairs will burn and some people are really funny when having conversations with people they should not be having in public. Nonetheless, this time Greyhound is getting me where I need to go from DC to MS and I'm pretty much on schedule despite the bus hardly leaving on time. C'mon now, it's not a plane so schedules are kind of flexible. read more

Wow. I never write reviews but I feel compelled to write one now. I was just ACCOSTED at Union Station by a Greyhound Employee. It occurred at 7:25-30 by the vending machine on the top level of Union Station. The shop was closed and my bus was leaving in five minutes so the only option to buy water was at the vending machine. I swiped my card and hit the button, 2.5$ a bottle. For whatever reason the machine then dispensed another three bottles. I notice that the screen is displaying additional charges to my card. I catched it late and don't know how many charges I had. ALL OF A SUDDEN this greyhound employee comes over and asks how many I paid for, I told him I don't know. And he tells me that I have to give two of them back, cause the machine dispenses extra water bottles. I tell him I'm unsure how many I was charged for. I also tell him that I'd like to see his supervisor but that my bus is in five minutes and I don't have time to deal with it. The machine dispensed it. There's no sign. Now this man tries to reach multiple times into my bag to take the waters out. He threatens to call security. He manages to take one and then one fell out of my bag and rolled. This man than runs to grab the bottle and walks away telling me to enjoy my bus ride. He wouldn't tell me his name but he was wearing a greyhound uniform. Spoke to three customer service agents by phone all of whom could not answer when the bus was supposed to depart and offered absolutely nothing to help. Absolutely awful! Staff - Ranges from OK to downright horrible. Generally unhelpful, unprofessional, and annoyed (as if the customer is supposed to serve them). I had a staff member get annoyed with me for missing my bus ... even though they forgot to alert people IN THEIR OWN WAITING ROOM that the bus was ready to leave (after it had been delayed for 2 hours). The bus drivers are perhaps the only saving grace as I've never had an issue with them. Buses - Good luck. Seriously, it's like playing the lottery for a good bus. 20% of the time, the buses are ok. But really, most of the buses you ride have some type of problem. About half the outlets don't work, the buses in general are dirty, the bathrooms could use cleaning, and their free WiFi just doesn't work (people make fun of McDonald's WiFi, but Greyhound buses may as well not have WiFi). Honestly though, I could forgive all of that if it wasn't for the fact that their buses are completely unreliable. I've had buses that have been delayed for hours. I've had buses with broken heaters/AC. I've had buses that had issues that required hoping on a different bus. I've had buses break down in the middle of the highway. If you could take ANY other bus service, please do. I would rather walk to my destination than rely on greyhound ever again! read more

Good Ol' Faithful. It's my preferred method of getting from DC to NYC. There's pretty much a bus leaving every hour (if not more) from 7:00am to 10:00pm. You really can't beat that. And if you want to change your allotted time ('cause you woke up late, got there early or just because), it's usually no problem to switch out your ticket. Extra Tip: They usually have deals for $20 one way (as opposed to their standard fee of $38) and $35 round trip pretty often, which is comparable to Chinatown bus prices these days. So I'd give G.B. a go before risking unforeseeable and rather unfortunate diasters (i.e. Spongebob videos on repeat at max volume and wrestling to get *your* reserved seat with 10 others that have also *reserved* the same sit) on the Orient Express just save a few bucks. It's really not worth the trouble. read more

Your experience with greyhound is more likely to be bad than good. The buses are either late or overbooked. If your bus is overbooked, oh well. You'll have to wait for the next bus headed to your destination, mind you this could be hours of waiting. Only use greyhound as a last result. Megabus has been much much more reliable and it's def worth the extra $10-15. read more

The terminal is pretty much what you'd expect. Restrooms that reek of urine due to overflowing toilets, a somewhat ragamuffin crowd (myself included at this point), and an entirely artery clogging menu featuring burgers and fries that taste suspiciously like McDonald's - which totally outs their cousins as just as obviously refrozen-reheated. Don't even ask me about the travel - I haven't started yet, but it's 16 hours worth with an almost four hour layover in NY at 2:30 in the morning, so suffice it to say, I'm not in the most charitable mood. Perhaps I'll update once I arrive at my destination. On the plus side, it's great to reminisce about my fun days backpacking through Europe and Australia; I just have to imagine the surrounding accents are more enchanting than they really are. read more

This review is about the company as a whole, not specifically the DC station. I had a ticket for use on Fri, September 13th for a departure at 2:20pm from New Britain, CT and ending in Washington, DC. I had an emergency I needed to return early for on Sunday. I walked up to the station I always leave from in New Britain and attempted to change the ticket departure date/time with $20 in hand, expecting that be the fee to change it, as it states on their website. The employee changing the ticket (who is a longstanding employee, not a newbie, as I have seen him there nearly every time I take a bus out of New Britain) was puzzled as to why it wasn't letting him transfer the ticket. He asked me if I had already tried transferring it, which I said no to. So, he gave me the customer service number to Greyhound. I gave them a call, and Greyound employee Laura, (Employee # 4292) informed me she could not change the ticket because I printed it at home. BUT, if I chose to print it at the station, I would have been able to do it for $20. Huh?!I asked her why printing my ticket at home, using my own paper, my own ink, and overall fewer resources of Greyhounds, I was not allowed the same benefit of being able to change my departure for a $20 fee? And even more important, why is this rule not crystal clearly explained as a warning at checkout when I decided to choose "Print At Home". She could not offer any explanation to this asinine rule except "Mam, I did not make the policy, I only enforce it." I asked her what I could do? How could I get home today on greyhound? The only option was to buy a ticket for $68.50 and a $2.50 facility fee and I could call customer service TOMORROW morning. Because of this incredibly high charge and overall less than satisfactory customer service, I decided to go home on Amtrak. Although, slightly more expensive, they are reliable in their exchange policy, and get me home much faster with no transfers or connections to make. More important, as I was sitting on the train, I was researching Greyhound's website and NOWHERE does it say you can't transfer a ticket for $20 if you print at home vs. picking it up at the station. In fact, it says you can do it regardless of what method you use to get your ticket! Furthermore, I've tried several times to go through their email method of requesting a refund to no avail. Overall, I will do everything I can to not sue Greyhound anymore. You guys aren't the only player on the stage anymore....Competition is going to have to make your customer service be ramped up just a bit! read more

I took the greyhound from Washington DC to NYC and it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. The ride itself was like 4 hours and my friend slept the whole way through (although i have NO idea how she did THAT!) There weren't many things to look at so I was very bored. So if you're going on a LOONNGG trip bring something to keep you occupied. I know there was a bathroom on the bus but i highly DON"T suggest using it. So if you gotta go... best go before you get on that bus. The bus wasn't the most clean but it was do-able. Purchasing the ticket and picking up the ticket was very easy. I bought my ticket on-line and picked it up at the electronic kiosk. I found that to be the most convient way to do things. Plus you can compare prices and check times while purchasing to be the cheapest price possible. Also, I suggest going to stand in line early.. possibly an 1/2 hr to hr early to pick seats AND just in case greyhound overbooks you're ensured you WILL be on the bus. Easy experience heading from DC to NYC. Was guided right away to which line I'd have to wait on by a worker who only allowed ticketed passengers past that point. Bus was delayed 20 minutes but that's no issue. My tickets were pricey but our bus was mostly empty. We stopped at our break-point and there was another DC-NYC bus that stopped next to ours. Theirs was packed. Glad I picked the one I did and had a mostly empty bus so I was comfy. I made the big mistake one day I was watching some silly show on MTV's Website and they kept insistently showing these ads about Greyhound and how it had upgraded everything...up to the drivers' tie. I had to go to NY so I made the reservation right there, thinking it couldn't possibly be that bad if they were making all those changes. WRONG! We came to the station 15 minutes before departing time and it turns out the bus was full. I told the guy we had a reservation and he said something in the lines of "reservations don't really reserve anything, only give you the right to catch a bus sometime within the next six months". I mean, check the meaning of "reservation" in the dictionnary for God's sake!!!! We -and other people who came a few minutes later and were in the same situation- told him our reservations had a time assigned and he kept repeating himself like a useless machine. I mean, a machine at least you can kick and it might just work, but not this guy. That was 10 p.m. and the next bus was at 1:00 a.m. We really needed to go to NY that night, so we decided to wait. The station smelled, there was trash everywhere, employees were rude and we couldn't even walk to a bar because that area doesn`t really feel safe at night. Around midnight we heard from someone in the line that the 1:00 a.m. bus was stopping on a different station first, so it might have as little as 10 spots available by the time it showed up to our station. We asked and the employee offered us the option of paying $5 more per ticket to "guarantee" a seat, but then changed her mind and said that option was not really available anymore. So we had to literally stand up in the line to make sure that if there were two spots in that bus we'd get them. When the bus finally arrived, we had to watch how they started scorting some people to the bus, skipping the line...stress, stress, stress. In the end, we did get the seats and swore to never use Greyhound again, no matter what, not even to use the return ticket we had already "reserved". They treat people in a way that makes you feel like the world is full of misery and dirt...That made me look for other options and found BoltBus, which for the same money or less offers an excellent service. Not all Greyhound bus stations are the same. I hesitantly give this station two stars just because the bus arrived and departed on time.. I felt impowered by the terrible loud CNN blaring at me from all sides of the waiting room. It seemed as though most of the passengers moved around, glassy-eyed, like zombies, really very ghetto The Employees and Bus Drivers were quite rood and hostile, and seemed agitated if anyone had any type of travel question. Although I rarely travel to NYC when I do I tend to use companies like Megabus or Boltbus because of the bad reputation of Greyhound. Due to a recent news article about new buses, wifi, and the value I decided to join the Rewards program and book an advanced ticket on Greyhound. The savings in fare from the competitors was very low but the idea of earning points for multiple purchases was attractive. Well, I ended up getting to NYC 3.5 hours late and had to spend an additional $28 to get there on another carrier. My bus was scheduled to depart Washington, DC's Union Station at 4:30 and arrive in NYC at 8:50. When I arrived to Union Station a little after 4pm I was told my bus was cancelled. The line to rebook at the ticket office was so long I knew if I waited to get to the window it would be very late before I arrived in NYC. I also saw all the remaining buses were sold out. So in order to get to my destination I spent $48 on Megabus and did not arrive until 11:30pm. I was not able to get a refund from Greyhound for my cancelled bus because I had a roundtrip ticket. Although I did not want to spend more the only way to use Greyhound was to wait and leave the next day which was unacceptable seeing as I had hotel reservations in NYC that were too late to cancel. The customer service agents at the window were rude and did not provide any additional compensation or assistance to customers or information as to why the bus was cancelled. On my return trip from NYC to DC my Greyhound bus did not have Wifi although the company advertises free wifi the wifi did not work at all. I incurred overage fees from my cell phone carrier because I thought I was connected to Greyhound's wifi and was not! read more

Lecretia is the worst "customer service" agent I have ever encountered. She was unwilling to help when I came to ask for assistance with check in baggage. She stated that I should look in my email and told me there was nothing she could do. When I explained to her that I selected the option for will call ticket pick up, she still refused to assist me, giving me a blank vacant stare and telling me she couldn't do anything. After I showed her the email, she rudely told me to email her and that she would print it out. What should have been a two minute encounter ended up taking fifteen minutes. I arrived at the bus station 45 minutes early and missed my bus because I was not told that I needed to have a baggage tag when I went to the desk to check in. If she had assisted me like she was supposed to and done her job, I would not have missed my bus. She was also literally the slowest person I have ever met. I am never riding greyhound again because I will not support a business that condones the behavior of such rude and incompetent employees. To make matters worse, apparently she is a MANAGER. Seriously? Its pretty sad that she was able to achieve that level at greyhound when she clearly lacks any and all skills associated with service or assistance. I wonder how many others she has had the displeasure of encountering and how much business was lost for greyhound due to such a terrible employee. I would much rather pay a similar price and take bolt bus or megabus or pay double to take Amtrak. At least I know I will get to where I need to be and not suffer the consequences of an inept unhelpful employee. I paid double the price of a regular ticket to get priority boarding and to accommodate for my luggage and this was the result. I frequently take buses in the northeast and southeast area and will not be taking greyhound again due to this terrible experience. I missed my bus due to her incompetence and unwillingness to provide assistance, and had she done her job, I would have made my bus with time to spare. When I requested a refund, she initially refused and told me to do it online, when my ticket clearly gives this allowance. After I repeatedly stated that my ticket gives me this allowance and I wanted a refund now so I could rebook my ticket with another bus company, she then obliged and begrudgingly gave me my refund. It was not busy or chaotic, nor was there a stressful situation, so there is no reason for her to have been so rude. This behavior was consistent throughout the entire encounter, from beginning to end, so I know it is not something I did or said to deserve such treatment. Had a bus scheduled to leave at 9 PM last night from DC to NYC. There was no driver so the bus did not leave until 11 PM. The paying customers did not receive any updates during this time and we had no idea if the bus was even going to leave. I Do not recommend this service and do not trust that I will arrive at the location I buy the ticket for-- and definitely not on time. read more

Worst bus system ever! Make sure you don't lose your print out ticket because if you do, they will make you pay for another ticket. I lost mine and went to the counter to re-print it. This was their reasoning for not printing another ticket: "Tickets are like check, if you lose a check, you're done." I kid you not, this is what the customer service representative at the station told me. Which makes absolutely no sense! and I tried to explain to him that his argument did not make any sense. He got even more upset and started yelling at me and another customer who had the same problem as me. They suck!! read more

I would have given Greyhound 2 stars, but I actually caught a cold from someone on the full-capacity bus I took from DC to Detroit. The drivers were friendly and I feel like their reputations suffer from a really bad business policy by Greyhound. The bus makes way too many stops. A regularly 9-hour trip from DC to Detroit wound up taking 15.5 hours on the bus. You do find some trashy or annoying people on the bus and in the station, but not nearly as much as I thought they would be. The stations are generally clean. The ticket counter workers are slow and uncaring. The bus seats are very uncomfortable, my neck still hurts from the ride yesterday... The future of ground transportation must be non-stop or nearly non-stop routes. Megabus and other charters buses have already made large inroads in the states. These buses have outlets, wifi, televisions, and comfy seats. The greyhound has no perks, or even trays or cupholders. I really hope one of these companies creates a route from DC to Detroit, either that or I better get my act together and buy a plane ticket early! NEVER AGAIN! read more

Well thanks to the snow, my previous bus from NY to DC was cancelled with Washington Deluxe. Out of desperation I ran to Greyhound, which for some reason they had chosen to continue their bus services. I am only here to complain about Greyhounds horribly, outdated, non-customer friendly computer system. I purchased a ticket at a kiosk for a bus departure that was to leave 3 hours later (which due to weather conditions left 4 hours later). During this time I managed to misplace my ticket. Realizing this, I went to the Greyhound employees who told me to punch in my confirmation number and/or credit card number in a kiosk to retrieve another ticket. Neither of these options worked. Without much more help, I voluntarily stood in a horribly long customer service line. I literally had just spoken to this employee about 20 mins prior who had seen and held my ticket. Now he told me there is nothing I can do, it was my loss and I had to purchase another ticket. A wasted $80 one way ticket from NY to DC. Though not surprising from a company with such a horrible reputation, but still, extremely frustrated. They really need to update their system that logs reservations beyond their online reservations. This will prevent customers from spending way too much money for a low quality bus service. read more

This is one of the worst Greyhound stations I've ever been to. The people working at this place are some of the most rudest, lazy and stupidest people I've ever came across. I recently booked a 7pm bus to NYC and arrived at 6:20pm at th station and was told by the attendant, who was too busy on his phone, that the bus was not here yet and to wait in the waiting room. I didn't understand how the bus didn't show up yet when the ticket says boarding is at least 20 mins before the bus departs. So I stayed by the front to keep an eye out for a bus. There was no one around waiting in any lines either. The attendant, of course, was hunched on his phone and couldn't care less. After waiting till 7:05pm, I realize there was no one around still and no bus arrived. I hear honking and see a bus leave. I asked the attendant why he didn't tell me the bus was already here and that it just left, he shrugged and said I wasn't waiting in line, LIE. I was appalled! I went inside to complain and was met with another imbecile employee who certainly did not want to be there, who gave me such a rude and nasty attitude as if me complaining and trying to get home was taking up her precious time. Bitch, it's your job! If you don't like it, stay home or go flip burgers. After trying to argue with me, and me not budging till they put me on a bus so I could get home, she finally got her manager, who was just as worse as the attendant and desk girl. He looked over the security footage and said that the bus was there and I wasn't in line and that I went to McDonald's when I should've waited in line. EX-FUCKING-EXCUSE ME?! At this point, I wasn't having it and I told the guy that I wasn't moving an inch until they put me on a bus because this behavior is UNACCEPTABLE. Regarding boarding at Union Station: Granted, I was traveling on Memorial Day of 2015, so yes, it is a holiday. I understand that. But the boarding lines (or lack thereof) made boarding such a ridiculous hassle. Nobody knew where to go or what line was what. I was shocked to find out that the bus I was scheduled to take, which had to be in Philadelphia at a certain time so that I could catch my next bus home, (lol, see my review for the Philly station for that horrorshow,) was overfilled. Despite having a low ticket number (8,) I was told I would have to wait for the next bus. So they did not board by boarding number. We ended up leaving an hour later than scheduled. The only nice thing was that due to being an overflow bus, there were plenty of empty seats, and the outlets actually worked on this bus. I don't recommend taking Greyhound if you can help it. I have had nothing but bad experiences thus far. read more

Don't! Don't! Don't! Don't! I'm not sure how you run a business without having backup drivers, leaving late causing the transfer bus to be missed by 20 minutes. Why bother to issue tickets???? This is the biggest cluster you will ever witness. A bus that was supposed to have its passenger at its destination by 11:25 pm will now not arrive until 11:30 am the next day (maybe...fingers crossed )And not a single greyhound employee even seems to care...sorry...not impressed! This was a "once in a lifetime experience"! Unending delays can be expected so don't waste time or money. Never again. I see alot of hate for greyhound bus lines. I do not share this hate, Greyhound from DC to NY and back, comes to about 38 dollars and unlike the other buses like Bolt, etc. If you miss your bus you are stuck ...not greyhound, they basically run EVERY-HOUR 24 hours a day. Some of the new greyhound busses have wirelless internet, power outlets, and more comfortable seats. Although, it's not a DOLLAR like some buses first seats are, the flexiablity is worth it to me. Of course you stand the risk of sitting next to a creepy smelly vagrant man who reeks of eight dollar vodka, and probably hasn't showed in six weeks or next to streaming child (which tends to happen me) or an overly talkative lady or some women who yells about her boyfriends small man-parts and cheating ways for four hours....but isn't that a risk you take everywhere? I just take my bag, put it next to me, and give EVERYONE a stare of death, unless there is some attractive potential suitor walks by. That being said, I have made friends on the greyhound bus. So you never really know what may happen, (including the trip taking just 3 hours or taking 8)..."Go Greyhound! And leave the driving to US!" read more

I must say I'm pretty disappointed. My friends and I purchased our tickets for a weekend getaway. Starting off to our trip, the bus was late due to some issues on Greyhound's end. Once we boarded the bus, our greatest concern became the smell. It smelled of urine, which was terrible because we could even smell it through our masks, double masks. My friend had to sit on the bus with a cover over her head to reduce the smell. It was everywhere. My fear was that they had not sanitized the bus because the smell was so strong. I felt like sanitization in the middle of a pandemic should be priority, taking extra precaution to make sure passengers feel comfortable and safe. I didn't feel comfortable during the bus ride. I probably won't be riding with Greyhound again. read more

Honestly wish I could give them a negative star review. EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional over the phone. I was booking a ticket and when I did it changed the date that I was leaving automatically. I called not even a minute after it did it and they refused to give me a refund or even switch my ticket to the day before. The supervisor was not nice at all and not helpful. I take trips to nyc multiple times a month and I will never ride this bus ever. read more
