Terrible service this morning... my daughter is on the 7:35 am bus from Union Station to Harrisburg, PA. Bus 2 hours late with no explanation... she's missing connection to next bus ride out of Harrisburg. I called customer customer service number. Message said to hang up and call a different number... they put on hold and the France line picked up ?!?!. They were minimally helpful with no information on the delay. Gave me a different US Union Station number which gave me another which didn't pick up. At all times I was respectful and not asking for anything but info. This weekend I had the WORST experience taking the Greyhound bus. I paid $100 for a round trip ticket with a layover in Charlottesville VA. The bus I was supposed to take on my layover did not show up on the way to my destination, nor on my way back home. Due to this mix up, I was forced to take 2 different buses at 2 different locations. I waited 4 hours on the way to my destination for the new bus, and waited 7 hours for the bus to bring me back home. Additionally, there is NO communication between the bus drivers and the employees who work at the bus stations. This lack of communication puts Greyhound bus station employees in an unfair situation. Employees cannot give accurate information because they do not know what is going on, and as such they are frequently subjected to verbal harassment by disgruntled customers. Greyhound should be ashamed of themselves not only for their blatant disregard for people's time and money, but also for setting their employees up to take the blame for institutional dysfunction. I strongly advise against using this company for transportation, as it is highly inefficient and does not care about its customers. read more

I booked a trip from DC to CT and when I got to port authority in NY I ended up waiting almost 5hrs because they did not have any drivers to drive the buses. Several other groups had been waiting for hours and were lost as well. There was no one around to let us know what was going on. Came across one employee that was ending their shift who told about the driver shortage but that was it. When a driver did show up they tried to board the next bus and leave us there still waiting for another driver. I had to fight my way through and then convince the driver to let me on that bus. When I called about a refund for the delay and extreme inconvenience greyhound refused to give a full refund. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. My 18 year old niece was trying to get home by Greyhound fro. Souix Falls, ND to Evanston, WY. Her bus was running late and she missed her connection in Cheyenne. The bus driver gave everyone the option to either stay on the bus and go to Denver with him or get off in Cheyenne. She of course chose to get off in Cheyenne since Denver would be taking her further from where she needed to go. Her journey had already taken over 24 hours at this point. When she got to Cheyenne she called to find out what she needed to do. The customer service people told her that since she wasn't at an actual station they couldn't help her. She would have to hope the bus driver let her on when she told them what happened. Stranding people on the other side of the state with no options is not acceptable and Greyhound needs to hold their people accountable. If a bus is late than they need to have a way to contact the drivers; even if it is with another company that they contract out to, in order to let them know people will be needing on the bus. Or at least have a system in place that the drivers can verify this is what happened. Leaving people stranded when they paid to get from point a to point b is not only bad business, but is morally wrong. read more

I have never written a negative review about a service or experience before, but my recent experience with Greyhound Bus Lines has more than compelled me to do so. Trusting Greyhound cost me a night of sleep, a relaxing Thanksgiving evening with family, and $619 to boot. Let me explain. This Thanksgiving, I trusted Greyhound would get me to NYC (from DC) so that I could make an international flight the following morning. I had saved money for months in order to travel to Colombia for vacation, and I was super excited about it. I booked the 11:15 pm GLI2304 Greyhound bus from Washington DC, which had an estimated 4:15 AM arrival in NYC. This bus trip would allegedly allow me to arrive at the airport with roughly 4 hours before my flight. To be safe, I arrived at Union Station an hour before the bus was planned to depart. I have ridden Greyhound buses countless times in the past and know to allot additional travel time in case of unplanned delays. After waiting at the station for ~ 2 hours, I was told the bus would arrive in 30 minutes. That time of course came and went. I was beginning to get concerned, so I went over to talk to the very friendly attendant working that night. Apparently the bus's status and location could not be tracked since the driver had used a different bus when departing from Virginia. This same driver was not picking up her cell phone when Greyhound employees from both Virginia and DC tried to reach her. Despite not being able to contact the driver, I was assured the bus would show up within the next "few minutes." I anxiously waited and waited, since no other buses (or Amtrak trains) were departing DC around that time. By around 2AM, the bus still hadn't arrived, and I knew I wouldn't make my flight. I ultimately had to pay $619 to change my flight to a later time the following morning. Besides having to fork over a ton of money I had saved for my vacation spending money, I lost a night of sleep and had to triage my travel plans in the middle of the night with concerned family members who should have been sleeping. This all happened on Thanksgiving night, nonetheless. What a way to spend the holiday--freezing and frustrated alone in the middle of the night in a bus station. Please note that I've submitted a customer service complaint (Reference number 683308), but I honestly don't expect to hear anything back from Corporate about my experience. I was told over the phone this morning that the only other thing to do is mail a letter to the Corporate PO Box in Texas. I'm sure my letter will get lost among the countless others sent in vain. Just know that I was a regular customer of Greyhound and that I appreciated the low price and flexible travel times afforded by this company. But, this last experience was so awful AND expensive (both for me and more importantly my family), that I can't imagine ever supporting this company again. In the spirit of the holiday Greyhound ruined this year, I'm at least thankful for the measly $36 ticket refund I was issued. Greyhounds service has completely gone down the drain for the simplest routes. DO NOT RIDE GREYHOUND IF YOU DO NOT ABSOLUTELY NEED TO!!! They lie on departure times, delay, and ticket use to get out of paying reasonable accommodations. I had a trip from Baltimore to NY for an international flight leaving out of JFK. The bus was supposed to depart at 8:25am. By 11am the bus still had not arrived. The people that were supposed to get on the 7:30am bus were not able to get on their bus because it was oversold. They were told they'd get on our bus (8:25am) but ours was full as well. By 11:30am I bought a whole new ticket on a completely different busline to make it to NY. I'm back from outside the country and Greyhound said they can give me a $20 voucher for the delay because I used my ticket - not possible since I took a completely different bus line. The $20 doesn't cover the cost of the original ticket nor does it cover the cost of the new ticket I had to purchase on Peter Pan bus-line (a WAAYYYYY better run bus line). Today - December 28, 2016 - is not the first time I've experienced discourteous, dismissive, and downright disrespectful service from Greyhound. But I will write only about this incident. I had reserved an 11:15 departure from Union Station in Washington, DC to NYC. I arrived 25 minutes before the boarding time (10:55am) printed on my confirmation. Because I was so early I asked if perhaps there was a bus leaving sooner which I might board. The platform person's response was "get on line E". After waiting until the stated boarding time I, along with several other passengers, began to inquire about our bus. Response: "It's coming". After waiting another 15 minutes, I went to the customer service desk. Similar response: "It's coming from the garage". I then telephoned the Greyhound customer service number. After a long conversation with 'Miguel', he could not tell me if the bus would be arriving or when it would be leaving. Frustrated beyond words, I called the Complaints number. After waiting 14:48 minutes I gave up. I clicked on "live chat". Ha!! Response: no one is available. I sent an email. Whether anyone will respond is doubtful. Their telephone, web, and live chat customer services are almost as abominable as their bus service. End of horror story: Greyhound personnel then packed our 11:15 departure with the 12:01 passengers. The bus was dirty, old, plastic seats that didn't recline, armrests that didn't work and - insult added to injury - without seat belts. Don't risk it! Try Bolt or Mega. I will. Is there a method to this madness? This isn't my first trip with Greyhound. Their buses are never on time. The attendants at the station do not communicate with passengers and are consistently sour. The buses are always packed to full capacity. Overbooking is a constant problem. Wifi on the bus is spotty at best. Get your act together, Greyhound. I followed Arin S's instructions in her review and took H street to find a parking spot in the garage and this worked well. At the last minute I had to get up to NYC and turn right around and come back. This was the first time I have taken a bus trip in decades, so Arin's review prepared me well. I reserved my round-trip tickets online, and got to Union Station around 4 AM on a Saturday expecting the crowd that never materialized at the terminal. So I stopped in the bagel shop and got something to snack on before I got in line. About 45 minutes before the bus left, people started getting in line. Since I was at the front, I got my pick of the seats. The bus was an express (a Peter Pan) so that was great I was thinking. For a 5 hour trip, the seats on the Peter Pan seemed smaller than what the Greyhound bus looked like from the outside. After about 3 hours into the trip, the Peter Pan seats became uncomfortable for me and I started squirming around to get comfortable. Next time I am taking some kind of a pillow with me to sit on. On the trip back later that same day, I was booked on another Peter Pan that wasn't an express, and had the same problems with the seats. They weren't selling express tickets in DC but were in NYC, and 1 person used one and skipped all the way up front. This didn't bother me since I was 2nd in line. I think someone sneaked on the bus when the driver wasn't looking, and hid in the bus bathroom. I know this because when the bus driver stopped later to use it, he opened the bathroom door and that guy was in there smoking crack--at least that is what someone sitting back there said. Anyway, this guy wanted to get off the bus and the driver wouldn't let him until he called it in to his supervisor, This got that guy fired up because he didn't have a ticket and wanted off before the cops came and also pissed off the passengers because they wanted to get where they were going. Even though the driver told everyone to curb their conversations, there was this guy that talked on his mobile and loud the whole time. So, for me, and for the price,The guy eventually go let off and the passengers hollered at the driver to not to stop again. Overall, I think it was worth it. I am going to use it again this month for a similar trip, but hope to not get on a Peter Pan bus because of the seat room and comfort factor. So frustrating - I dropped my son off at Union Station at 7am for a 7:35a bus. There was little signage, but someone from Greyhound told him to stand in line in a certain place, which he did. At 7:40, having heard no announcements nor seen any bus, he was a bit unsure if he was in the right place. I called the Greyhound DC number (which seems to connect you with some general 'customer service' (I use the term loosely) number, not anyone in the DC bus station. That person first needed ticket #, last name and phone # for my son (???) then told me the bus had already left. I told him that my son had been there the entire time, no announcements. Oh, he said, let me connect you with the office there. [long wait on hold] "They're not answering, can you call back in a half hour or so?" SERIOUSLY? The issue is that the bus was supposed to have left 10 minutes ago and you want me to call back in 1/2 hour??? It turns out the bus hadn't left, but it showed up maybe 5 minutes later. Ultimately, the bus left 25 minutes late and I am not sure if my son will make his connection. #NoWayToRunABusiness Also, there were issues with making the reservation: I went online several days in advance to get the ticket. The website said 10% off if you have a student advantage card (which, it turns out, costs $20). Well, this probably makes sense, there'll be a few more bus rides before he finishes college, so I got one...then I went back to Greyhound site to purchase his ticket and get the 10% off. It turns out (I found out from customer service when I couldn't get the 10% discount, that it only applies if you aren't already getting a discounted fare which they said this was (odd, since I saw that the same run on other days was cheaper...). read more

Greyhound bus service has the worst driving and customer service ever! The schedule time for the bus to leave was 8:00pm and I got my ticket on line. I got to the bus station at 7:45pm. By 8:00pm the line was very long and there was no driver. Finally at 9:45 they got a bus and took us on our way. The driver had the nerve to then make a stop for food some where in Baltimore and people where grumbling. Then he stopped again for something to drink at exit 7 on the NJ turnpike. I asked why all the stops since he left over an hour late. He said if i had a problem then i should have taken a plane and that he actually had 4 built in stops so i should be happy he only was stopping twice. He then went on to berate people on the bus who were complaining. He said we should be lucky he took this bus because he could have driven another route. Whereas we would have still been waiting at the terminal. I am fed up with Grey hound. Since using their service to go from NYC to dc and back from dc to NYC.. I have had a driver leave at 3:15pm although the scheduled time to leave was 3:30pm and she closed the door in my face as I tried to run for it, a bus start smoking and break down so we had to switch buses at another station along the NJ turnpike, 2 drivers get lost (one actually asked the passengers for directions as we got to VA but were going to dc), 2 drivers stopped twice for cigarette breaks, one driver get pulled over by the police, one driver on an express stopped at the Baltimore travel plaza to get burger king and proceed to drive the bus while eating a whopper. This is outrageous. Greyhound's service stinks and I am taking my money else where. This weekends trip will be on the Bolt bus. As the driver recommended if I am in a rush I will take a plane, the Amtrak, or another bus service. Enough is enough. When will they wake up? read more

Hung up on again, and quicker than ever! WOW! Greyhound has owed me my ticket refund since early March, 5.5 months ago! I once again called, as directed by them, to inquire about an update and was once again told that they hear nothing from the refund department and can't do anything about it. I was calm and patient, listening to them say the exact same thing all over again, then asked for the supervisor who I have spoken with multiple times before, and was immediately hung up on! This repeatedly happens. I would advise you to never purchase a Greyhound ticket unless you wish to be stranded and then be extremely frustrated seemingly forever and still never get your refund. If I could rate 0 or -100 stars, I would. Not even 1-star is deserved. My family and friends network will never use Greyhound again until this is resolved and I don't believe it'll ever be refunded. Apparently, I'm asking for a miracle to occur. If the company went out of business, I can say that I would whole-heartedly expect that to happen based on no service provided after taking people's money and then having horrible customer service. read more

In an effort to save money I recently took Greyhound from Boston, MA to Washington, DC and here's what happened....we left 15 mins late (their system says 2 mins), took an unscheduled 20 minute pit stop, missed connecting bus by 15 mins (their system says we got there on time). Took the next scheduled bus at 1 PM. (Their system says there was no bus at 1 PM) About an hour into our trip we break down. We are broken down on the side of the road for over 3 hours! No ETA for when a mechanic might arrive or another bus to pick us up. (Interesting they have no information in their system regarding this!) The driver comments someone had installed an incorrect sized belt on the bus. Finally arrive to my destination 4 hours later than scheduled. When I contact Greyhound via email detailing the experience I'm told to call Customer Support for a refund. So I do. I'm told by Customer Service that I didn't take Greyhound but rather another carrier, I arrived on time, and no refund/voucher would be issued. My request to speak with a manager/director were denied as well. I know I will never give Greyhound my money again! Also, when I went from DC to Boston the driver took an unscheduled stop as well. I again missed my connecting bus by about 15 minutes but caught the very next scheduled bus without complication. read more

This is the worst bus I've ever traveled on...it is ok that stuff happens and people are human and buses are late...but the key is to communicate to customers to gauge their expectations...when the bus is thirty minutes late, there are no employees, no signs etc it is absolutely ridiculous not to inform the customers...I understand bus drivers cannot talk on the phone to inform employees of their location but in today's age there is such thing as GPS, Bluetooth, even pulling the bus over to stop and communicate to people the schedule...I'd give it zero stars if j could...never recommend taking this line...I know I won't again! read more

No driver showed up for the bus. Then a different driver showed up, but we were told he could not drive after all. Went in line to exchange my ticket and no one was working at the counter. Line just kept getting longer for half an hour. Someone else knocked on the door where the staff were, but no service. Three hours later had my ticket exchanged. If I could give this company 0 stars, I would. Not only was my 6 PM bus cancelled, but there was failure to notify any passengers of the cancellation in the first place. The information board of departing busses still stated that the departure was for 6 PM even though the time was now 6:30 and passengers were walking around aimlessly waiting for ANY information whatsoever. If I didn't need to leave so desperately for an event, i would've had more flexibility and chosen a different transportation method. At the time, the next best option was another bus with Greyhound, so that had to be purchased reluctantly. After realizing I did not want to travel with this company post this awful initial experience, I asked for a refund and they absolutely refused. After speaking with Greyhound's customer service for 45 minutes, I have never been in contact with a company less focused on customers and their satisfaction than Greyhound. I have taken the DC Express to NY Express roundtrip 2 times and I have never had a problem. The buses always left on time from both stations and I have always arrived at my destination in 4 hours or less. I am 6'3 so there is limited room for someone my size, but I have always had a seat to myself so room has not been a problem. The WiFi is hit or miss. Today my daughter bought a ticket on Greyhound. It was online and pretty expensive. She was supposed to print it out but the website did not function so she was unable to do it. The woman and the New Haven station told her she could not travel unless she printed it out, even though she had her reservation number. So she was forced to buy a second ticket. The women, Neilsa, was especially unhelpful. And her supervisor Boniface was no better. Having made several calls I can see it is going to be tough to get this money back. Greyhound, I am so disappointed in the service you provide. I have been a customer many times in the past and today I could not get service. I have literally been trying to call some of the various customer service lines to see if the buses would be running today due to snowfall in the northeast. I kept getting told by each line to hang up and dial a different number in what seemed like an endless loop. I tried for literally the past 2 hours and was unable to speak to an actual human being. I finally came upon a recording of a girl who described which routes would be canceled. She was extremely unclear, I couldn't hear half of what she said and I didn't even hear her mention a date. Also, I tried calling the Washington, DC location about 20 times over the past 2 hours and it was busy every time but once. On the one time that I actually did ring through, it simply rung for about 10 minutes before I decided to give up and hang up. So, after 2 hours, I am giving up and accepting the fact that there is no possible way for me, as a paying customer, to be helped by greyhound. Once again, very disappointed. read more

Our 4:30pm bus from Atlantic City to NYC was delayed by 45 minutes. When I went to inquire about it, the Greyhound Information clerk said they are busy and to get back in the line. I went back. The bus came at 5:15pm, but could only take the first 5 people. We (my family of 3) were the sixth in line. Another bus came 15 minutes later, we took it to NYC to transfer (yes, to go from Atlantic City to Newark, NJ, we had to go to NYC first.) We got on that bus to go to Newark, NJ which continues on to Philidelphia, Pa. The bus was smelling badly of urine from somewhere within the bus. We took it as we had no choice. After arriving in Newark, my wife noticed swelling and itching on her arms. According to Google images, these are either bedbug or mite bites. NEVER AGAIN Greyhound. I'd rather eat glass! This is much better than the Chinatown buses. On one ride, the driver of the Chinatown bus talked on his cell phone for the entire trip and the smell from the bathroom could be sensed from the middle of the bus. The Greyhound/Peter Pan bus is nicer and the ride is safer. I've used both to get to NYC and the price is exactly the same (use the eSaver page). I will use Greyhound from now on. I use greyhound for NYC to DC routes (megabus for longer routes). The prices are reasonable, especially compared to Amtrak, and in my experience greyhound is better at sticking to a schedule than Megabus. Their seats are more comfortable than Megabus and I like the footrests. Sometimes you end up on a Peter Pan Bus and those are less comfortable than Greyhound, but still ok. Only thing to remember - you must print a ticket. You can't use your phone. And you can't print on both sides of the paper if you have a return ticket. But they make it pretty easy to print at a kiosk at stations if you need to. read more

I have flown, I've rode Amtrak before, I've taken Megabus, Gotobus, and a couple Chinese gypsy coach busses but NEVER EVER HAVE I HAD A WORSE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! If it's not bad enough that it takes 23 hours for greyhound to get you from Atlanta to Philadelphia because of all the damn stop and transfer points, there wasn't ONE transfer point I got to where either my bus was late getting there or the bus I was transferring to was late! RIDICULOUS! So after my bus initially leaving 45 mins late leaving Atlanta, and my transfer bus being an hour late picking us up in Knoxville we were late to every transfer point after that! So instead of getting to Philly at 12am Sunday, I had to spend Saturday night from 7:30-1:30am in Richmond bus terminal & all I was given was a free meal and a free trip voucher! They had my money already I felt like I had been kidnapped! It was a joke!! I ended up getting to my destination 7 & 1/2 hours late!!! NEEDLESS TO SAY 1ST & LAST TIME TAKING GREYHOUND! My experience was so bad I will doing more than just taking my business elsewhere but I WILL TELL EVERYONE I EVER RUN INTO ABOUT TO TAKE A BUS ABOUT THIS HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Recently attempted to travel on Greyhound from New Carrolton Maryland to NYC. Bus was scheduled to depart at 8:50 am with arrival into NYC at 1 pm. Bus never came! Calling the numbers on the Greyhound website just gives you the run around to call another number. The persons who answered were in the Phillipines! Extremely scripted and not able to help at all! Such frustration on a COLD THANKSGIVING morning. No explanations available. Tried to get a refund but kept getting the same folks in the Phillipines. Called the station directly on Friday and got a live person! Was informed since I bought the ticket online I needed to call the same number (214-849-8966)...Phillipines again! Even the DC Greyhound number I called was connected to the Phillipines. WOW! On the website the way to get a refund seems to be sending a physical ticket and letter to somewhere in Texas. They really need to get with the program; it is the 21st century. Horrible, Terrible, Frustrating service. WHY do the jobs keep being FARMED out? Hurriedly bought new tickets and traveled on Peter Pan leaving from Union Station. Yes apparently they have SEPARATED themselves from Greyhound since September of this year. YIPPEE. Can we have negative star? Seriously! I booked 2AM bus to NY from DC on 8/6. I was inline standing - about 10 people in front and 4-5 people behind me. The bus showed up @ 2:30 am and let 9-people in front me on board. And the driver said "wait" and left the line, got on the bus and drove off... I cannot make this up.. Just drove off - rest of us had no idea what did just happen... And there were NO ONE at the counter to get any information. There is a big photo of district manager and station manager names and phone number. I should have known better - both calls went to answering machine/black hole. After 30- min later, we ( the rest of the passengers ) found a guy - we were told he made a call to corporate to have another bus - but no idea how long before the bus will show up.. I waited another 30-min - now it is almost 3:30 am - NOBUS and NO ONE to give us any information. I left the station - went to Chinatown, and took the bus the NY. Greyhound can keep my money - I am not even bother to try to get my money back. I won't let Greyhound fool me twice.. I'll rather walk if I have to. read more
