Worst bus service ever. The bathrooms always disgusting. No toilet paper. There are hardly any helpful employees around. The bus can be over an hour late and they have nothing to say about it. No refunds. Like their customers time isnt important even though we are supposed to be able to relay on their schedules. The bus drivers dont seem to care one bit. Why are they okay with treating THEIR CUSTOMERS this way? The lack of respect is frustrating. They'd rather leave us in limbo than let us know anything. The employees act calm and almost happy about the bus being late. They seem totally okay with saying "I dont know" as an answer. Where does all of the money we give them going? If its not to training better staff or supplying toilet paper in the restrooms. This company purposely takes advantage of their customers. My bus from NYC to Boston delayed more than 2 and a half hours and I could not arrived Boston before midnight on Monday 7/30. I missed my work on Monday!!!! After 2 hours, an officer told me that all Greyhound Sunday buses were delayed for more than 2 hours. But Greyhound just kept us waiting!!!! Not telling us the truth!!! Getting better! I used to hate Greyhound, but the service is improving. I mostly take Amtrak, but when I wait until the last minute, Greyhound it is. The drivers are typically nice, safe and efficient. The problem with this company is the online ticketing system and the customer service. They both are awful. You must travel Greyhound Express! While I was in college, I had several bad experiences (overbooking, late buses, convicts on buses) with Greyhound...But they have seemingly come a long way since then! Recently took the express bus from D.C. to NYC and it was a wonderful ride. We were scheduled to leave at 6 p.m., but after a breakdown and some stalling on our original bus, we left D.C. at around 7 p.m...but get this...we were still in NYC well before midnight! What a quick trip! The Express buses have leather seats, (spotty) wi-fi and a bathroom. Although they aren't as spacious as Mega Bus,the ride was extremely comfortable. I also liked the fact that after our first bus broke down, they got everyone moved over to the new bus and had us on our way in less than half an hour...That's pretty impressive...especially given Greyhound's previous track record of being unreliable....I am glad to see that they are cleaning up their act...while still being able to provide extremely affordable travel! Don't forget to arrive early if you want to get your choice of the seats. read more

Riding a Greyhound Bus for the first time! What an exciting moment I thought this would be! Especially after learning that the oldest member of our family Ulysses Bryant was the second African American in history to drive for Greyhound. So, I really felt honored since this was my first time riding. I couldn't wait for the experience and a chance to tell someone my elder cousin, whom I call uncle, out of respect for our elders, was a Greyhound Bus pioneer! My hopes were crushed from the time I got in the bus to the time I arrived at my destination! Washington, D.C. to Springfield, MO. SMDH!!! Really Greyhound??? Step your freakin game up!!! I felt like I was riding on a "chicken bus" in a third world country! The bus was cramped, and I'm only 5'6 1/2"! My freakin knees were touching then back of the seat, the bathroom smelled like piss to the highest of pisstivity!!! LOL!!! You needed a gas mask to go in there! I literally held my breath as I approached the door to enter. Well, the ride did teach me that I have to work on my breath holding skills! LOL! The smell was all throughout the bus!!! Terrible!!! To add to my adventure I got a chance to witness some of the newest members of the "No Longer 7 Dwarfs!" I met Grouchy, Dopefieny, and CrazyAsFucky who just didn't shut up the entire time all the way to Saint Louis! He actually was CrazyAsFucky/PillPoppy!! Talking about, he had to take pills to get rest! Well THE PILLS DIDN'T WORK DUDE!! GOSH!!!! Another thing that really tripped me out is, I swear they were playing the "Jedi Mind Trick" on us! One Attendant says, "Line up at gate 11." Everyone Lines up at gate 11. Then when it was time to board the bus, another Attendant asks us why were we all standing at gate 11. Of course we all had the same answer, "We were told to line up here." The Attendant says, "No you weren't! You were told to line up at gate 12!" WTF??? We all looked at each other as if we all knew we heard gate 11. Can you believe that actually happened at each stop? We all gave up on listening to the gate instruction over the intercom or the first Attendant who told us to line up and waited until the boarding Attendant instructed us to line up! Wow! What an experience!! Oh, I didn't mention that a guy that was traveling on the bus with us got his bag stolen and he was told to get on another bus. When we arrived in Ohio, I saw the same guy who asked me, "why did they put me on another bus?" I had no idea! The Attendants has so many people confused plus one of the bus drivers was extremely rude to a passenger who asked a simple question. SMH!!! Lastly, we arrive in Saint Louis, MO on our way to Springfield, MO, and while waiting in the Greyhound terminal a couple of us plugged our phones into wall sockets. Didn't see a sign telling us where a charging station was located. A Security Officer came over and told us to unplug our phones because water comes down a pipe and drips onto the electric socket area! WTF!! And that's not fixed yet??? C'mon son!!! Well, I did thank him for saving my life! SMFH!!! Then the officer pointed us towards the charging station! Out of the 12 outlets, only one held my charger! LOL!!! It kept falling out if the other 11! How frustrating was that? This trip couldn't get any better!!! SMH!!! And,upgrade your busses!! I'm quite sure the company can afford it!!! So I had booked my round trip NY to DC ticket online to print out at will call machine. I did that in New York On my home to New York, I was thwarted by a delay. First it took forever to figure out where in Union Station to go for the bus since this was the location I was used to but I realized when I came into DC the Friday before Memorial Day that this is where Greyhound and Peter Pan are now. .I get to where the line is for the bus to Port Authority in New York City. The line is long. There is delay for the 12:01 bus leaving DC Tuesday after Memorial Day. The bus that we were scheduled to be on had a faulty air conditioner so the driver had to go somewhere to get another bus. That took about an hour. So the bus pulled out a little after 1:00 P.m. instead of 12:01. This meant that by the time we hit the NJ Turnpike it would be about 4 Pm if we were lucky.. It was 4:45 before we got close to the Lincoln Tunnel, which is already 25 minutes later than scheduled arrival time By the time I got out of the bus and above ground at Port Authority it was close to 6:00PM. read more

To and from NYC 4 or 5 times per year on various bus lines and trains. Only Greyhound postponed a bus TWO HOURS - with no warning, and no time estimates. They did not have a driver (under the hours limit due to traffic delays). In the NYC Port Auth Bus Terminal they don't keep a driver on call! Ridiculous not to anticipate the the most obvious possible problem. I have used 4 or 5 bus lines. The greyhound seats were the worst. My butt hurts. Not an old bus, just cheap or poorly designed. if it was a lower rate, and I would've give it to you guys, the worst experience ever, was dropped in Richmond bus station for five hours, when it was supposed to be just an hour, and after all the weight late at night, in a dangerous area and it was cold, and I feared for my safety, with no personnel in the whole station, not a single one, but a security guard outside and one other driver, came to us after waiting for five hours to let us know that our bus was canceled and we had to reschedule for the following bus if we want to go to our destination , next thing you know calling the customer service to change the bus ticket, telling us that the system is down and we apologize we can't fulfill your request, knowing that we were there for five hours, and asked us to wait for another five hours, this is ridiculous I would never ever use the service again, when I reach out to Paul Crte for a refund, they refused to do so, the zero out of 10, in terms of service, cleanliness professionalism, lacking in every aspect . l read more

I took the greyhound bus for a roundtrip from DC to New York back to DC. The bus was late going to New York and the bus and seats were old, I took the early morning 3AM ride and I didn't feel too comfortable on the ride. Going back to DC was a lot better, the bus was new and not as late as the previous bus. I am not gonna use Greyhound bus again unless it's the last resort that I have. read more

So it's Saturday and I took my daughter to the bus stop in Annapolis bus 3559 to the eastern shore. It's now 522 for a bus that was to arrived at 230 and according to the web site the bus has never left Baltimore. Delayed it says. The chat for info said so sorry no info call a number in new Carrollton md. I do. It's a fax number that makes a fax noise and in any case an unmanned kiosk outside the train station that I have gone to before. So there is no one to ask what the heck is going on and where is the bus and will it ever come. Tomorrow? Never? Unreal. So third world. Welcome to greyhound. Do not rely on them for anything. I will never buy a bus ticket from Greyhound ever again. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a bus company and I've been traveling from nyc to dc 3 times a month for 8 years. Boltbus- how are you even part of the same company? Night and day. I decided to buy a greyhound ticket after seeing that all the boltbus tickets were sold out. Big mistake. After waiting over an hr for the 5:30 bus, they make an announcement that the bus was canceled. Oh and the 7:30 too. There were about 100 people. Yes, 100 people. How can 100 people fit on one bus? But gets pushed up till 2:30am and won't arrive till 6? Come on guys get your schedule sorted out. If it says a specific time then get there! I purchased an express ticket to New York City, but then on the bus the driver told us it was local and would arrive an hour after the time printed on my ticket. This was after I had twice confirmed with two other greyhound employees that it was an express bus I was boarding. Also, their self-service kiosks are garbage. Unlike the other bus lines, greyhound makes you print a copy of your ticket (as opposed to just showing them your email ticket). But you can't print the tickets from the self-service kiosks (for reasons unknown to anyone). So you have to stand in line and wait for a greyhound employee to print it out. Not only is this ridiculously inefficient, but the line often has a dozen irate people in front of you, and there's only one or two employees manning the desks. Finally, the buses themselves are old and gross. The outlets almost never work. The wifi is a lie. read more

This was my first and likely last time taking this company for anything. Wish I could give it a half star. The customer service representatives were rude, unhelpful, and incompetent as it pertained to anyone's travel. The only people who were nice in the slightest and even remotely knew what was going on were the bus drivers. There was no organization (specifically in the Columbia Bus Station) and apparently the intercoms were broken because there were no announcements being made and all they have up are pieces of paper with highlighting on them. There was a woman working there named Kim or Kimberly B. This company wastes money on rude and incompetent people like her. I could sue just based on the racist agist comments she was making if I cared to give that much of my energy to a company I will likely never use again. I could tell you what the B stands for but I don't want this review to be taken down. After being ditched at the border (Canada-US) by the driver, who apparently couldn't wait an extra 2 minutes for the last one in line, they didn't keep my luggage that was just damped at the final bus station. Other than that we waited more than an hour for the drivers to switch at one of the stops, and the compensation I was promised turned out not to be recognized by their own D.C office. I booked a bus ticket from NY GWB to Baltimore at 10:35pm. The bus was delayed an hour. Boarded the bus and was immediately told by the driver that he would not be able to continue this route because it would take him over his hours. He then proceed to say he was going to drive everyone on the bus to NYC Port Authority for his supervisor to get us sorted out. Once at Port Authority we was told they had no bus or driver to continue and needed to get off the bus with our belongings. By this time it's 1:00am. They in no way try to assist with any accommodations and had no availability on any of the morning busses to continue our journey. When I reached out to customer service about a refund since I found another way home they told me I was not eligible for a refund since I purchased a non-refundable ticket even though it was not my fault my scheduled trip was canceled by them. DO NOT TAKE GREYHOUND I was a passenger on the 5:30pm bus from Washington DC Union Station to NYC Port Authority on 3/2/2018 and the entire ordeal was an absolute nightmare, which I've recounted below: When I arrived at Union Station, I was told by a bus monitor that the bus was delayed due to the weather conditions, who said it would be at least two hours before the bus left. I should note that every person on your staff working at the bus terminal was giving different information about when the bus would be leaving. The bus actually ended up leaving at around 6, but since there was different departure information being given, I imagine some people didn't make it on the bus because they assumed they had 2 hours to spare and left the terminal--I almost did so myself. We were in bumper to bumper traffic on Route 40 for 6 hours, attempting to take the Hatem bridge. Right before the bridge, a police officer stopped our driver and told him that busses would not be able to go over. Now, this is something that our driver (named Ulysses) and his supervisor should have been notified of FAR in advance of our trip--I had WTOP radio playing on my phone, which was reporting every ten minutes that Hatem and Tyding bridges were closed to busses and trucks, so, the information was out there. Route 1 in Maryland had a bridge that was open to all vehicles, but our driver refused to take that route, because he "needed permission from his supervisor." I even heard from another person who was traveling in the opposite direction (coming from NYC and going to DC) that they their driver took that route, so why couldn't ours? At this point, we were stranded on the side of the road and remained there for about another hour. I should note that our driver did not come over the loud speaker at any point during this hour to relay any information, it took passengers going up and talking to him and then bringing it back to other passengers for us to all become informed. The driver spent most of that hour attempting to contact his supervisor, but "no one was answering the phone." Finally, the driver was given the message to turn around, at which point we drove aimlessly through Maryland until we pulled over in a shopping center, where we were told we'd have a "30 minute break." At this point, it's 2am, every store around is closed, so we didn't have any need or reason for that break, since there was nowhere to get food or water. People started splitting Ubers to NYC. The 30 minute break turned into an hour, then the driver came over the loud speaker to say he was taking us back to the Baltimore bus station. Once we got there, we were put on a bus back to DC. We arrived at Union Station at 4:15am, nearly 12 hours after my bus to NYC was supposed to depart. I don't blame the driver for the weather conditions, but there were multiple failings on the part of the supervisor here, and Greyhound's emergency response system in general. 1.) The bus should've never left Union Station without clearance to take Route 1 to NYC. All busses should've been cleared for that route, and though I know one bus that successfully took that route in the other direction, it appears there was no consistency. 2.) The bus should've been fully stocked with water and snacks knowing that weather would cause major delays. You all were fully aware of the fact that the trip would be twice as long as anticipated, and thus should've had prepared for the worst. 3.) The bus driver spent an hour on the side of the road attempting to contact his supervisor, but "no one was answering the phone." The supervisor should've been on call the ENTIRE night due to the weather conditions--that is simply unacceptable. There was just a general lack of transparency throughout the entire ordeal, which is frankly irresponsible and unsafe, I consider myself lucky for making it back to a place where I could get something to eat or drink, but I know there were many passengers on other busses and on my own who weren't so lucky. Greyhound should be ashamed of themselves for allowing people to be so stranded, and should issue refunds to all passengers for putting us in such physical danger. We never even made it halfway to our destination and one girl next to me nearly passed out from dehydration! read more

I've been holding out hope for Greyhound for years but this morning was the last straw. 30 riders were left standing in line as the bus drove off with NO communication/explanation from any greyhound employees. Some people received refunds and other didn't, because the station ran out of cash. The customer service office was closed and the agent on duty's hands were tied. This was the worst experience I've ever had with Greyhound. My bus never came, I stayed waiting in the station with my mother for 12 hours! Customer service did not help, the people that worked the ticket office were rude and unaccommodating. I think the worst part is how they treated the homeless people in the station, ignoring them, removing them from the only warm spot in the station which was the waiting area. My mother and I noticed that these people had gotten off buses so obviously they were patrons but yet they were still mistreated and stranded just like we were. There were women, children, there was a man with an amputated leg and a wound that look like it should've been treated better (he was taken off a bus and forced to wait for another one), there were older men, and others that had gotten off of buses only to be stranded for hours. The special police in the station seemed to get a kick out of just bothering people. I witnessed them tell a woman in a wheelchair that she couldn't lay down on the bench, she was older and handicap, it was cruel. The worker at the ticket office kept saying there were no drivers, how could that be?! I think it was because a good majority of the passengers would have been homeless or mental ill or something like that. How dare people look down at others for their downfalls?! How dare Greyhound use the excuse of no drivers to leave people stranded for hours on end without any assistance, updates or accommodations. I only wish I could give this bum ass bus line no stars!!! My day trip from NYC to Washington DC. turned in to a nightmare and left me stranded in a filthy bus terminal with a cast of scary, questionable characters. It started with the departure to Washington. My bus was scheduled to leave at 7 am, but because there were no drivers, my daughter and I had to wait an hour and twenty minutes until they found an operator for the bus who didn't even know how to get to Baltimore which was the stop before Washington. Upon returning to NYC we purchased tickets for an 8:15 departure to New York, as my daughter and I were preparing to board the bus, we were told we were on a later bus due to lack of drivers which wasn't leaving until 1 am!!!!! Meaning I will not get to the city until 5 am!!! I don't know what kind of operation Greyhound is running, but this is the worst experience I have ever had and I will not be traveling with them ever again. There was no announcement of the delays, the agents were of no help and could careless, we had to find out by word of mouth. I've been riding with them for convenience for the past 6 years but I will never ride another bus of theirs again. On average the bus either leaves too early or way too late. Don't waste your time. Ride anything but Greyhound. 1. My trip was from DC to NYC (Union Station to Port Authority) on 12/18/16 at a departure time of 7PM. I arrived 30 minutes prior to departure and there were people already in line. It was not until 8:05pm-8:10pm that the bus arrived to Union Station. For those of you that don't know, you have to wait outside at Union Station for your bus and we're experiencing freezing temperatures. People were waiting out in the cold for a total of 1.5 hours. We didn't leave Union Station until about 8:30pm. 2. The driver stopped half-way at a rest stop, when no one asked him to. It was supposed to be a non-stop ride. He, and some passengers, went inside to use the restroom and grab some food (I know because people came back empty handed and others came back with food). This rest stop was at least 30 mins. 3. The row in front of me would move back towards me when the bus accelerated, and would move forward when the bus had the brakes applied. My knees had to stop this from recurring. I could not do my work appropriately. 4. There was no heat on the bus for 2 hours into the ride. Several people had to tell the driver to turn on the heat. 5. We got to NYC at 1:15am, when our expected arrival was 11pm. 6. I contacted Greyhound customer service. They apologized and said that they don't guarantee times. What an absurd and unprofessional response. Needless to say, they did not address all of my concerns. So a driver can drive a Greyhound bus from DC to NYC, visit his aunt in Pennsylvania, drive around in circles, and then reach NYC and it wouldn't be a problem? read more

On February 26, 2020, I had a booked ticket from Anaheim, CA to Las Vegas. My departure time was 2:15 PM. I arrived in the station at 2:05 PM per station clock. I immediately went to Bay 10, and no bus to Vegas. Okay, not unusual to be late. I wait.l Finally, give up and go to service window that is now open. I can get a 9:45 PM bus for a 20 dollar fee. No way, So I go home and call Greyhound service department. She says the bus left Anaheim at 2:12 PM. Okay, #1. I could not have missed the bus if I entered and went to the bay at 2:05 PM. #2 Bus is supposed to leave at 2:15 PM. Even Greyhound is saying that it left earlier than 2:15 PM. read more

Four trips total for the T-day holiday. 1. DC to NYC 2. NYC to Boston 3. Boston to NYC 4. NYC to DC Boarding on all the buses was orderly and stress-free... Trip 1 had no wifi and no seatbelts. Boooo. Trips 2-4 had wifi and seatbelts. Yay! Trip 4 had leather seats. Driving on Trips 1, 2, and 4 was smooth and comfortable and I never felt the need to brace for impact. Trip 3's driver was a tailgating, gas and brake, weaving stressfest in the rain. Trip 2 had a scowling impeccably dressed driver who shaved at least 20 minutes off of a long delay on the highway because he knew the roads well enough to get off at a long exit and get back on bypassing oodles of bumper to bumper cars. Trip 3 was remarkable for pulling to the side of the highway for about 2 minutes while the driver used the bathroom. The only icky part was having to go to the DC bus station which is inhabited by people who beg for money, and a security officer who seemed to be engrossed in his computer in his office. Let's hope he was watching security videos and not yelping. The walk to and from Union Station is one of the more unsafe walks in the city. Even with a friend, I'd move quickly. Tips: 1. Print out your eticket before you get there. 2. Don't drink anything before you get on board, and pack something to snack on. 3. If you want to be able to plug something in on a wifi capable bus, don't sit in the first row as there are no outlets. 4. It never hurts to have mints handy in case your neighbor needs them. read more

In addition to the bus driver, there is appx 60 passengers on the bus. I'm submitting this correspondence to request an investigation of Greyhound, it's subsidiaries, contractors, affiliates, etc. Greyhound persistently operates with deficiencies in customer service, commerce, equipment, staff training/capacity, ethical obligations/considerations, safety, etc. This bus has an unbearable stench of human waste permeating the air. Clearly this is not safe for passengers. Although the driver has been notified, his failed attempt at resolution leaves passengers exposed to waste for destinations between Wilmington, DE and New York. What a disgrace! read more

Decided to take the Greyhound to a football game in Baltimore one weekend a while back. Never NEVER again. I will never go here again, and agree with other reviewers that I wish I could give it zero or negative stars. It was that bad. We booked ticket on a bus leaving 8 hours before the start of the game to account for any delays and be sure we made it on time. Get to the station and none of the auto machiens to print tickets are working. We stand in line for well over an hour, but none of the employees are doing anything. They are sitting in the back drinking coffee. I only know this because one emerged at some point to come out and get something and I saw them all lounging around in the back room when the door opened. Meanwhile, there was no news on where the buses were or anyone out to give tickets. People were knocking on the door to the back lounge area trying to figure out what was going on but were ignored. Very frustrating/infuriating. When several hours passed and no bus or news of the bus came we began to worry and went to the train station down the street to see if we could take that instead. Turns out we couldn't. We had to go back to the stupid greyhound station and wait and wait with no explanation as to when to expect our bus. Before we knew it, and after several screaming matches/panicking, 7.5 hours had gone by and still no bus to Baltimore. We ended up randomly flagging down a truck with another couple wearing football jerseys and basically hitchiking to the game because Greyhound was so unreliable. And we were late for the game despite arriving at the Greyhound station EIGHT HOURS before the game was supposed to start. EIGHT HOURS!!!! Unbelieveable/unacceptable. Since the Baltimore Greyhound station was near the stadium, we ended up using Greyhound on the return trip. Boyfriend, who is usually calm and sweet, had some kind of altercation with both the person at the ticket counter, who badly goofed something up with the pricing and refused to fix it, and the rude bus driver woman who he talks about to this day. Apparently the bus driver was really nasty to him and I have never seen him so fuming angry in my life. To top it all off, someone near the back of the bus barfed and the vomit rolled down the floor of the bus making a huge sticky mess. It smelled and we couldnt put our feet on the ground for fear of stepping in vomit. This was by far the worst customer service I have ever received in my life, including the time I lived in former USSR. It was absolutely outrageous. I had never before imagined either that it would take 8+ hours to get from DC to Baltimore. UGHHHHH! This experience was HELL and it disgusts me to see this horrible place getting anything more than one star on this site. Literally, when Greyhound comes up, both boyfriend and I begin to shake in anger as we remember our experience here. We will never make the mistake of relying on Greyhound ever EVER again and I sincerely hope that place gets shut down. AWFUL. THE WORST. read more

When I was visiting a friend in DC almost three (!) years ago, I made a day trip to Baltimore, which ended up being an overnight trip because I sprained my ankle in a pothole while running to catch a train. I got from DC to Baltimore via Greyhound, so I got to spend some time in this station waiting for my initial bus and waiting for my friend to pick me up when I returned. This was my first time riding Greyhound, so I was pretty confused by the ticket-purchasing process. There were a bunch of ticket windows, but you had to go to the correct one, and there were different length lines at each one. Basically, it felt like a cross between the DMV and the post office. Once I got my ticket and scoped out where my bus would leave from, I bought some disgusting food from this station's snack stand and played some pinball. That's right, in summer 2006 this station had a Medieval Madness pinball machine. MM only happens to be my favorite pinball game of all time, and at that point, I hadn't played the game in probably three years, so it was an absolute treat. When I realized, though, that I couldn't really hear the departure announcements over the PA system, I abandoned one of the three free games I had won to go wait by my gate. It was a good thing I did, because I just got on the bus before they stopped boarding people. My friend warned me about the sketch factor of this station, and overall, it wasn't horribly bad, but I would have preferred to spend my time in an actual DMV or post office, providing it had a functioning Medieval Madness pinball machine in the lobby. read more

I call this review: ON A SCALE OF 1-10, MY EXPERIENCE WITH GREYHOUND WAS FECES. How do you define good customer service? My definition is pretty simple, keep the customer happy. That is, of course, assuming the customer is being reasonable. And, I feel that my run-in with Greyhound on October 19, 2015 was the perfect example of a reasonable customer receiving poor customer service. I would like to begin by letting everyone know that this matter is over $20.50. I am employed, so all of the energy put forth to rectify my sour ordeal comes from a place of disappointment, and a little anger. Let's begin! I live in New York City but was in Washington D.C. on Monday morning. Due to some delays on the train, I'm in the situation where I'm racing to Union Station trying to make the 4:00 PM bus back to New York. I purchased my ticket earlier that morning. I ran up the steps to the bus and arrived at 4:02 PM only to be told the bus had just left. Those buses are never on time... until you're late. But, I was late. The same employee that told me the bus left advised me that if I wait in line I can have a seat on the 5:00 PM bus. So, I stand and wait patiently for the 5:00 PM bus to begin seating. As they begin to let people onto the bus I am stopped by a woman who asks for my printed ticket. Let me just say, I find it very redundant to make customers print a ticket when Bolt, Megabus, etc. are able to look at the emailed confirmation on your phone and let you proceed. However, I did not print a ticket as I initially ran to the 4:00 PM bus. So, with seven minutes until the 5:00 PM bus was scheduled to leave, I was told to go to the counter and get a ticket. I walk inside the Greyhound service station and stand in line. There are two employees inside and both are currently helping a customer. A man, Rick, asked me what I needed in a pretty rude fashion, and I told him I needed a ticket printed out for the bus leaving. He directs me to a kiosk where you can print out your own ticket. I questioned whether it would apply to me since my ticket was for a bus that had already departed, but he interrupted me several times as I questioned him so I played along. The ticket would not print. So, now that it won't print and I tried things his way, I was allowed to finish a sentence. Rick listened to my short story of missing the bus and waiting, while scowling. Then croaked "you need to buy another ticket." I took his attitude, and was too exhausted to reciprocate his energy. "Look, I don't want to go back and forth with you. The man outside told me to get in line and I just stood there for 50 minutes. If I knew I would need to buy a new ticket, I would have left on another bus. I paid for my ticket and just want to go home please." But, Rick was not budging. It is rare that I ask to speak with someone's manager, but I was in a rush and did not feel like my request was unreasonable. Well, when I asked Rick had the pleasure of barking "I'm the supervisor." Which meant there would be no hope for me. I looked behind him on the wall and saw the General Manager's name was Mark Taylor. He spouted "you tell him I said you need to buy a new ticket!" When I asked for his name he threw it at me while running out the door. My guess is he had to go knock the ice cream cone from a small child's hands. I joke, but it's possible. So, angrily, I walked out and bought a ticket from Megabus. Greyhound would not be getting anymore of money that day. I called Greyhound's customer service and spoke with a very polite woman who created a report. I should point out that Greyhound has a no refund policy, but I have a pretty good policy of only paying merchants when a service has been provided. At this point, I paid $20.50 to have an unpleasant exchange with Rick. I have tried to contact Mark Taylor and tell him how horrible my experience with Rick was; but he is a tough man to reach. If you call the Union Station Greyhound desk, no one answers the phone. I even called another location to get a better phone number and was told "they barely pick up when I call over there." Littered with awful experiences, stories of poor customer service, and much more. How does a company operate with such poor word of mouth? Because, we allow them too. We continue to give our money, and say "it's okay to treat people like [expletive]." I do not want Rick to lose his job, but I hope that Mark Taylor reads this and has a conversation with Rick. I want them to commit to better customer service, as I was not the only person spoken to rudely during my brief time in Rick's presence. Yes, another update. This one really is useful :-) Greyhound helpful tip #37: If you choose the "buy and print your ticket at home" option (see previous update), you must print it at home. Huh? Ok... when you buy and print your ticket for an airline for example, and then you forget said ticket at home or your printer is broken... you simply go to the airport and reprint it. Not the case with Greyhound. You have the option to EITHER print at home or pick it up at the station. Unless you like pain and opt to pick it up at the station (and wait in a long ass line) you must bring it with you. !!!!! If you don't bring your ticket printout with you, they will not be able to reprint it. Apparently, the idiots who created the ticketing system didn't merge the databases or something like that. It doesn't matter if you hold up your Mac showing the ticket, or that you have a receipt or anything else you can say. They can't reprint it. You can.... but they can't (if their link is working, but that's another story)./ They will make you buy another ticket.... if the bus isn't sold out! Theoretically, you could have an empty sold out bus leaving all the people behind at the station because they forgot their tix or the link didn't work. So, yes, I paid for two tickets for my trip back from NJ to DC this past Friday. I'm not too pissed... I immediately questioned the charge on my Amex via the online dispute resolution center, and they refunded the money to me within 48 hours. read more

Okay okay, I was try to save a dime and this line took all my time. What was suppose to be a quick 6 and half hour ride to Pittsburgh from DC took 7 hours. Which you might say who cares? Apparently the driver didn't care because he said that he was usually at least 30 minutes late getting to Pittsburgh and I would not have been so upset about it if it wasn't for the fact that I had a Elite Yelp Event in Pittsburgh with free drinks and food. While my experience was sub par mainly due to cramp space, people complaining so much, people snoring super ass loud (the ladies beat the guys on this one), people selling their own Cd's (have to respect the hustle), no leg room, to top it off being late was no big deal. What this bus has going for it is a $44.00 round trip between Pittsburgh and DC, but I hear Mega bus is way cheaper and faster. read more

I have taken different bus lines from Washington DC to various cities only because these were last minute un-planned trips, where scheduling a flight would have been un-feasible. I took a Greyhound to Laredo Texas about 2 weeks ago, which was a 42 hour bus ride, and I wanted to share with you all my grand experience! First of all, you have to be able to understand "street language" and sort-of stoop to the level of street thug, in order to get along with the Greyhound Employees.. If you're looking for things like electronic plugs, or bathrooms with toilet paper, good luck! I have riden Greyhound hundreds of times, and never once! have I seen toilet paper available or much less a clean bathroom. If you check out the cast of characters actually riding the bus with you then you would need to ask yourself if you really would want want to share a toilet with them. Always- buses leave late and arrive late. And the thought of communicating any type of delay to Customers has never ever once dawned on any one of the Greyhound Employees, they would just assume punch you in the nose! My bus to Boston abruptly pulled off somewhere along the highway in Texas, because the driver mis-counted the number of passengers, and then started yelling at his passengers, acusing someone of boarding the bus without a ticket. Let's forget about the passing thought of being assaulted by the Bus Driver for a moment. At one point along my 38 station stop, I needed to gain access to my luggage, so that I could get my much-needed medication, that was stored there. Oh my God, you would have thought that I had asked the most difficult complex request of the Bus Driver and the station's Baggage Hander. This street thug Handler was actually barking at me to "get back on the bus" you, explicative, POS. The only possible benefit of traveling with Greyhound is the price. If you are the faint of heart, and wouldn't be able to conjure up the thought of sitting in a bus for nearly 2 days, then I would definitely recommend a more civilized means of transportation. read more

Gather around, kiddies, this is the Guide to Greyhound. I've been busing it between DC and NY for three years now, so listen up! Greyhound may not be the best bus line ever but it serves its purpose from time to time. Recently, Greyhound has stepped it up a bit in recent months. Certain routes (including DC to NY at certain times) have more leg room, power outlets, and wireless internet! They also have larger windows in case you really want to take in the view of the NJ oil refineries... For me, I go Greyhound when I want a flexible ticket. If I'm not sure what time I want to leave that day, i just buy a Greyhound ticket. Oppositely, do NOT take Greyhound if you must get on the bus at a specific time. These tickets do not actually reserve you a spot, so if you show up along with fifty other strangers for the same bus, you might not get on. If you find yourself in that predicament, make sure you get there early! Also, I only take the Greyhound for direct routes, or those that have just one stop in Silver Spring. Be CAREFUL! Some routes (DC - Philly) have four or more stops so it takes a much longer time to get there than a direct route on a Chinatown bus would take. ALWAYS BUY YOUR TICKET ONLINE! Two reasons: 1) The ticket counter is incredibly understaffed at this station. It is not unusual to see twenty people lined up and only one employee working behind the counter. 2) It will be a lot cheaper. Although not always, these tickets are cheaper than the competition. The station is gross and mildly sketchy but you know what? It IS a station. Unlike the competition which does not have actual terminals, Greyhound is great to take during cold winter months and rainy days because you get to wait for your bus indoors, instead of outside in the elements. read more

Took this bus from DC to NYC just a week ago. Was a bit worried due to the mixed reviews. But everything worked out fine. In terms of comfort, it's comparable to the only other bus line I've used before (Washington Deluxe - reason I didn't use it this time was due to schedule - WD only has 2 buses per day weekdays). Departures from DC and NY were both right on time. Arrivals were both a bit late but that's due to traffic, not the bus line's fault. The waiting area at DC Union Station was clean and orderly, there are seats whereas other bus lines departing from the same station have none. Boarding was by ticket number about 10-15 minutes before departure so you can arrive just before (don't know why the instructions tell you to arrive an hour before). Same at Port Authority in NY. Ticket price was competitive: roundtrip $28 for at least 7-day advance purchase and $34 web only (but you probably won't get that if you buy at the last minute). Only catch is it would be costly if you need to change the date or time of departure ($15 per change) and that policy is strictly enforced. For my trip, I booked a 2 pm bus on a Wednesday but arrived at Union Station before 1 pm so tried to get on the 1 pm bus. However the lady collecting the tickets was quite a tyrant and totally unyielding - if I wanted to get on the 1 pm I had to pay $15 to get the ticket changed. There were 2 other people in the same situation, even though the 1 pm bus only had 7 people on it. But she not only wouldn't let us on, but made sure that the driver didn't either. So we all had to wait for the next bus, which turned out to be almost 80% full. Doesn't make sense to me but obviously a way for the company to make more money. So the bottom line is, if you can buy your ticket early, and not change your schedule, this would be a good bus line to use as it has a lot more buses daily. Booking tickets online is the best way to go - by phone you won't get the web only price and the regular price is twice as much. Also there seems to be a $10 fee for using a credit card on the phone which just doesn't seem reasonable (online cost is $1). Cheapest way to get the ticket is to book online but choose to pay cash and pick up the ticket at a 7 Eleven store, in which case there will be no additional fee. read more
