We got back late and stayed up a little late catching up-so I asked for a late check out, which they obliged and gave me till noon. I got up with plenty of time, but if you know this place it's a bit of a maze and I had to go find a bell cart. I was loading up the bell cart at just a few minutes past noon then I was putting trash in the baskets and doing a last bit of tidying...when as I was literally about to walk out the housekeeper on the 4th floor started yelling at me...it was past time. I said, "I know (like doesn't she see the cart?) I am walking out now". This lady clearly has never worked with customers before (or maybe she is one of the reasons this place has abysmal reviews?!?!?) because even as I walked out she went on and on about how I wasn't honoring the sacred oath I took when I accepted the late check out...I'm only half joking...this lady was actually having a good time speaking to me like a child even though I was already leaving (oh and I took my tip I had left them because I was so pissed). This lady doesn't belong around people in any capacity. We all agreed otherwise we had a solid stay but this left such a sour taste in my mouth. I made the mistake of being the person to pay for the room because they have a policy that you can't stay there if you live within 30 miles of their property. They even said they couldn't allow us to rebook under one of their names because they now knew that one of us lived within the 30 miles! She asked if I called or booked online and when I stated I booked online, she stated "if it was my wedding and that important I would have called" she proceeded to be rude and nasty and practically laugh at me while I panicked over them canceling my wedding suite day of. I can share with you the last 2 years I worked here i quit over 2 months ago had enough . So the first year I started was promised company quarterly bonuses they have been doing for 30 years but they dropped bonuses and I missed it by one day after my 90 days . Then they withheld all reviews and raises for almost 2 years then it was only 2% !! They also eliminated double time on Sunday they had this for decades now also gone . Then they decided after 30 years of first and second shift and we shift they eliminated we shift then made 3 shifts 8 hour days and losing 12 hour vacation pay now 8 . So then after several months of that not working back to 12 hours again but they still kept it a at 8 hours vacation pay so we lost another 4 hours !!. The State of Maine passed a law for 5 paid sick days but guess what not here !! They found away out of it you see were this is going? This is without a doubt the worse place i ever worked at being a machinist for 35 years i could go on and on but you get the drift . I am sure some Mid State brownie will get on here and say the have many challenges and covid and any other excuse they can dream up blah blah blah but the simple truth is they dont care about you or anyone else the management is horrible . The fist and second shift foreman both narcissists and don't know a thing about machining or have any leadership skills They are all company so be prepared to always be thrown under the bus because no matter what your at fault . There is a lot more to tell like the med insurance is super expensive high deductible and covers nothing Everything I have said is 100% accurate and there is so much more but I am out of space.

Supposedly because, as they said, I left a lot of trash in the room. I had a small family birthday party for my son and cleaned up the room, even bringing my own trash bags to do so. I was puzzled & assumed it was a mistake so I reached out to management and received an email back saying that I had taken advantage of their no locals policy. Apparently they don't rent rooms to locals, but bent the rules for me, unbeknownst to me. No one EVER told me that this was a policy. If it was a policy, to not rent locals, then why in the world would they have rented to me? The whole situation is just bizarre. I've spent a lot of money at this hotel over the years and this is the thanks I get. So if you're local I guess you're not allowed to stay at this hotel, but they probably won't tell you that and may rent to you anyway. ?? Warning to locals- you're not allowed here, or maybe you are, or maybe sometimes? Great management. Thanks Fireside. Very nice. I cleaned that room thoroughly when I left, as I always do. The past 2/3 times I have showed up to this particular hotel since this incident, there has been some sort of alleged "issue" which resulted in the front desk employees basically DOWNGRADING my room or giving me a room that has quality issues (photos will also be attached). YESTERDAY (10/2/2025) I booked online, as I always do and when I got to this hotel the front desk manager (David Connolly) told me I had been put on the "do not rent" list due to "smoking in the room" and "paint bubbling from hot water damage in the bathroom"... I am 6 months pregnant... NEED I MENTION I do not smoke nor do I ever in life need to be in BOILING water... Basically they were finding any reason to get out of owning up to what their housekeepers either left or didn't do a good enough job of cleaning up.. I am utterly upset due to the fact that nobody has done anything to accommodate or help the fact that this is happening. I have called the head manager of it all, (Katy Kelly) and haven't received a call back which is what prompted me to make this review. About a 10 minute drive away. 2. The camping offers many options from hotel rooms in the lodge, to cabins, to RV sites, tent sites and cabin-tents. We tried the cabin-tent and LOVED it. We are use to camping in tents so a cabin-tent felt luxurious. 3. The lodge offers a huge hot tub, a swimming pool, corn hole, billiards, and an arcade...complete with several claw games which all kids love. 4. The food and drinks are really quality. We're talking gourmet food, but good selection of classics and something for everyone. They have a great selection of craft beer. 5. The white water rafting is down to a science! They offer gear for staying warm even when wet...wetsuit parts (jackets, pants, booties), and of course life jackets and helmets. You literally just have to show up. 6. The guides and staff in the lodge are very knowledgeable, very friendly, and some of them are very funny. All of them are great to talk to. We rafted the Kennebec, and we can't wait to come back and do the Dead River and the Penobscot too!

When I called to ask why, they said it was because they didn't have any buses or transportation available. They assured me I wouldn't be charged. Nonetheless, I received a payment confirmation the next day. I called the company back to flag the issue and was told that both transactions were now cancelled and would disappear from my credit card within 3-5 business days. It's now been almost a month and I still haven't received any refund. Both pending charges have officially gone through, and no one is answering my emails or calls. I had to contact my bank to dispute the charges. I'm so frustrated!
