I have been going to Griffin optometry for the last seven years. Unfortunately I will be taking my business elsewhere. After scheduling an appointment weeks in advance, I was notified the evening before the morning appointment that it was not possible and would have to be rescheduled. After rescheduling and waiting two more weeks, I get a phone call the day of telling me that unfortunately they're going to have to reschedule. Service used to be exceptional here unfortunately since they've been taken over by total vision, it has gone downhill and I will now be looking for a new optometrist and very sad that I have to go outside my hometown and do business elsewhere now. read more

Unfortunately the length of time to get my prescription renewed was not reasonable. I began my journey on April 23rd by walking in the paperwork from my insurance re: how the process with my new insurance was to be handled -- via Express Scripts Seven times beginning 4/23 to 5/22 I followed up and contacted Dr Griffin's office and then s/w Exp Script and asked for help 4 times in hopes that their process in contacting the office was more efficient -- their 3 requests were also ignored . Finally, had to leave a voicemail with my predicament and would like some assistance--I followed up with a phone call 24hours later -- gave info again-received another phone call was told to please please explain again the previous person was new and wasn't able to a help and needed me to explain again. Finally , 5/22 received a call back that the 3 electronic messages from express scripts were found and they were able to respond and hopefully my prescription will arrive soon. read more

I've been saving my 1 star review for some time, but I feel that Griffin Optometric is the most deserving business of this review. The doctors of this place are quite good. However, the admin staff are awful. I ordered my contacts and apparently you need to try on trials for a week before they can order. It took 2 weeks for trails to come in because admin didn't order them right. I then wanted to place my order and asked if there were any issues/ back orders on brands not to place the order, it took an additional 6 weeks to get my contacts.. additionally I called numerous times and was given inaccurate shipping dates and was put on hold for hours. When I went to pick up my contacts, it took 3 staff to locate them and an additional HOUR of my day. I support local business, but unfortunately highschoolers appear to have no place running admin. This place needs a new manager to properly train employees. Don't come here unless you want your time wasted. I will never be back. read more

If you want to find the worst optometrist. Here you go you found it!!! I think I would rather be blind then deal with that office of people. The moment you walk in you should make a u turn and leave. I think stabbing your own eye balls would be more pleasant they going here and dealing with their dr and staff. I have been getting my eye balls checked for many many years and theirs get the worst office of any medical or store I have ever been in. Their office is so unprofessional it felt like I was in a mental ward at the 5150 house. I was there first thing in the Am and they have to pull Of these dumb covers off all the glasss display cases like they are holding rare diamonds or high end jewelry... nope just trashy frames they charge an arm and a leg. Their pricing is sooooo high. They pretty much are robbing you with out a gun. Hopefully they will close soon so they can't do any more harm to the good people of California. Maybe the owner needs their eyes checked so they can see all the problems with their store. read more

During my appointment, they did a thorough exam and offered me great advice on new contacts. The doctor was professional and personal while also being aware of my time. The full appointment took about 45 minutes which was exactly what I was expecting. I returned a week later for my contact checkup and again, everyone was awesome. Purchased prescription photo gray Ray Ban eyeglasses just over a year ago and the black frames are losing color and chipping. As I have purchased multiple glasses from Griffin Optometric and do not even wear this pair daily, have every reason to find the frames defective. Took the glasses to Griffin Optometric and after they contacted their supplier was left a voice mail saying since the glasses are more than 12 months of age, there is no help for me. As the investment in prescription eyeglasses is notable, well over $600 and more, find their unwillingness to stand behind the product they sell poor business. Have some colored frames over 40 years of age that I continue to wear and look as good as the day they were purchased. Buyer beware. read more

Poor efforts on managing existing clients. I dropped off my glasses for repair/adjustment & was told I will get a call update the following day. I followed up after never receiving a call back, only to be hung up on and a sorry I am to busy to work on this request right now. Not an ideal representation for Griffin, I expect better. Btw: watchout for hidden and unwarranted exam fees. Its one price & there should be no additional costs wrapped into it, especially when insurance covers an exam. read more

Fasten Your Seat belts! I believe all these fantastic reviews are from those who either got paid to do so, or in one way or another, are related to the staff. I'm not, and I'll tell you like it is. There should be no Statute of Limitations when it comes to your eyes. With Griffin, that seems to be the greatest protective shield they stand behind. I went in for my routine exam, ordered up a pair of Ray Bans which I always wanted. When it came time to try them out, I felt like I was having some type of overdose reaction to medication. Clarity near and far was way off. They said, "just wear them for a couple of days" in order to adjust. I did. No results. I'm a very busy person, and time did not allow me to go back anytime soon. I repeatedly tried to wear these glasses over a period of months with no success. I eventually went back to a previous pair I had prescribed from them that still worked well enough to focus. I put the Ray Bans in a drawer, and just forgot about them! A little over a year passed when I once again stumbled across them. I called them and explained the problem, and since it had just been over a year, was told that they couldn't help me. I didn't have time to go back and forth as the conversation began to do, so I said "forget it". Another couple of years passed and again, came across them. I had just had a new prescription filled with another great optometrist in town, and when I had him examine the lenses of those Ray Bans, his reply was that the prescription was no wheres near what my vision required then. We even compared them to the other prescription Griffin had filled on another pair, and both were entirely different. With this information, I was once again motivated to contact Griffin, and right the wrong. They did not! Cathrine's sweet personable manner on the phone, and Dr. Randy's smile, and good humor does not make up for their unsympathetic mannerisms, and lack of ethics. I have a pair of virtually unused, and expensive sun glasses I'll never be able to enjoy. My entire family had been patronizing Griffin for almost 10 years, and have spent 1000's of dollars out of pocket, as well as through our vision insurance during this period. Yes, I know that I probably waited to long to get this fixed, but I guess that these "Nice" folks are willing to gamble a continued long term relationship over a stinking pair of lenses. Catherine said, "We'd love to keep your business", and I stated that the only way that's going to happen was to just get me the correct lenses. They outright denied my honest request, just as they did when asked to repair a pair of broken frames that just snapped one day as my son was putting them on. Their reply was, "well he probably just sat on them or something". As far as I'm concerned, you can sit on "This!" It just isn't right, and I thought everyone here would like to know. Thanks Griffin...Thanks for nothing! Bet your father's rolling over in his grave. There's a nice optometrist in the Albertsons Center at Pico and Presidio in town that my family has been going to for the past couple of years. It's a small practice that gives you big results. The staff and doc are nice. However, unbeknownst to me, I had cataracts brewing and couldn't see well. He got me hooked up with glasses to the tune of $450 and never ever mentioned I had cataracts! Dan is an absolutely miracle worker! I brought in 4 pair of sunglasses that were badly damaged (a pair of ray bans I was sure were unsalvageable) and he fixed every single one good as new! I purchased a pair of sunglasses with transition and progressive lenses for over $700 11/2 years ago. The lense on one side is now deteriorating. I went in today to see what could be done. If you don't have a problem in the first year your totally out of luck. To fix them they want more than $510 dollars to redo the lenses. Now if you can afford to spend $700 on a pair of sunglasses every couple of years they have a great selection. They take your money but don't expect any help if you have a problem. Went to Griffin Optometry for my first (ever) visit to a doctor for my eyes. The staff made me comfortable and explained every procedure they used to get a good understanding of the problems I was having with my vision. I've never been able to say I've had fun at a doctor's office before!! The office is very nice, neat, clean and up to date. And Dr. Griffin was a pleasure to chat with as well while he further examined my vision. I stayed a little past closing time to pick out my frames as another gentlemen helped me and gave me his honest opinion of the ones I was trying on. I was not rushed although it appeared it was time for everyone to head home. (I may have even took too long because I was having fun.) I chose Griffin because of their excelent Yelp ratings and reviews and I was shown why they have received such high ratings. I recommend Griffin to anyone who lives in San Clemente and/or surrounding areas. It is definitely worth the trip if you don't live close! read more

Was hoping to give a more favorable review for these folks but unfortunately I find it far too frustrating, Offices and Staff are nice but be prepared to wait. Have experience delays, both upon in store arrival and for delivery of glasses as well. Overbooking patient appointments, slow to assist you once you enter the establishment, and lack of follow-through when excessive delays are experienced for delivery of your prescription glasses. I hope both Downtown and Talega offices take this review to heart for I truly wish to keep my business local. read more

I've been going since 2008/2009 and have been pleased with this location as well as Laguna Niguel. Dr. Randy Griffin is very friendly & a great doctor. If you ask him about his family, the story is very interesting :) The father and brothers all have an office and are very respected. Jenny was extremely helpful with me. I bought the Night & Day contacts that were beyond my budget. At first I would only purchase one box because my eyes were the same power, but at the last check up my right eye was getting worse by .25 and the cost doubled for me totaling $140 for 6 months. So, since I bought them yesterday and didn't open them at all, I asked if I may return them and refit for the same company but cheaper brand. They would help me with it since it was not working out for me. The purpose of this specific contact lens were so I would be able to sleep in them, but I don't anymore because they lose quality after the first few hours of napping in them. She was accommodating, professional and took her time answering my questions thoroughly. I'm a happy girl! read more

I love Griffin! Everyone in there is so welcoming and helpful. If there is a specific style you are looking for that they don't carry, they happily special order it for you. I've gotten both my regular prescription frames and lenses there, and also lenses for my sunglasses, and have been really pleased. If you need any adjustments to your glasses after you've purchased them (like tightening the arms), they gladly do that as well. I have had the worst experience here multiple times. After several tries they never got my prescription right. I had to send my glasses back 4 times and they are still not working right. The ladies at the front desk can be rude at times and make me feel uncomfortable. I was experiencing headaches, eye strain and my eyes were burning for a few weeks. I work in an office setting and a major part of my day is spent staring at a computer while writing up reports. The last time I was seen by a optometrist was when I was 19 years old and I am now 32 years old; I know I have been bad. To top it off I RARELY, and by rarely, I mean maybe once a year wear my glasses; they were a mild prescription for distance and I am no longer in college/grad school so I felt I didn't need them. I decided it was time to return to Dr. Griffin and have an eye exam. I was able to easily make an appointment for my desired date when I called. I arrived promptly at 10:00am with my 17 month old son in tow; not the ideal situation but he was with me that day so needed to come with. I was seen immediately. The office and exam rooms are very clean and the staff is very friendly; the staff all were very attentive to my little one as well. Dr. Randall Griffin was very friendly (as always) and did an excellent job at explaining what was going on with my eyes/vision and the remedy. I was very happy with my visit and I cannot wait to pick up my new Tory Burch glasses and get rid of the eye strain I have been experiencing. read more

My experience was not great at all. The Dr. was friendly but everyone else was very unprofessional. When I walked in there was no acknowledgement or greeting. The staff were all talking between them saying rude comments "thinking" I couldn't hear them. Not welcoming at all. They are not on top of their orders.
