It was a upbeat place. The food wasn't the best. It wasn't the best catfish I've ever had in my life. The sweet tea I got was absolutely gross it had a bad aftertaste. It was not sweet. It was not worth what I spent for it. I got a whole gallon. Would I necessarily recommend this place to anybody? It's decent chicken. The potato wedges are really expensive. Well, no this is not diet food. But it was NOT greasy!!! I stopped here because I am on the hunt for the best fried chicken in Lexington. I ordered the three chicken strips with one side and a dinner roll. The dinner roll was just a dinner roll, not bad, but not spectacular as far as dinner rolls go. My side was mashed potatoes and gravy. Good. Two plain strips and one spicy. Go ahead and order spicy, it is not too hot. The plain was good, but I felt like it might need a little salt although I don't need more salt in my diet. . Anyway, the entire meal was pretty yum!!!! I will come here again! The chicken was fried perfectly. ( not sure if they soak it in buttermilk, it could have been a touch more tender. ). I had really liked this place but the last 3 times I went there it was a disaster. I'm so surprised that the owners are letting these things happen. The peg legs and flats were my fav. I could eat the heck out of them, but not anymore. They seem old and brittle. The crust is ddrrryy! Nothing like the place I used to frequent constantly. I had single orders, family meals and catering The service is also not the same. These people they have working at night do not care about the business. Terrible attitudes and service. I know how difficult it is to control the quality of food 100% of the time, however, I would suggest an owner of some sort work a few night shifts. I've learned my lesson. I've given them 3 chances to show me anything has changed for the better. I am sure the hard working owners or managers would not disagree. I want the original Grimes back! The decor is zero. I went through the drive thru and ordered a couple of breasts, 6 wings, 6 peg legs, mashed potatoes and gravy and fried cauliflower and the total was only $15.00. The place was packed and the drive thru had a steady 2 or 3 cars in the line the whole time I was there. I ordered at 6:30 on a Friday night. The parking lot was almost full. They took my order and I paid at the window and then they told me to pull forward in the parking lot and wait for them to bring my food. They came to my car window at 6:37 with someone else's order. The fried catfish dinner. They came back with the correct order within two minutes. They were very friendly and polite. At 6:40 when I was leaving there were 6 cars in the drive-thru and plenty of people waiting inside. But they seem to move fast. The chicken is excellent. The breasts are huge and the meat is moist and tender and the outside is crispy, not greasy. I got regular and I probably should have gotten spicy. I will try that next time. I also want to try Indi's to compare. For the price, you just can't beat this chicken. read more

According to their website, they changed the name to reflect the passing of the Grimes family recipe to the next generation. Not to worry though, that's the only thing that has changed. They're still quickly serving up some of the best chicken wings in Lexington! I'm not quite sure of their affiliation with Indi's, but their chicken wings are very similar. So, when I mention that Grimes's have some of the best wings in Lexington, they are tied with Indi's. This location is closest to my house and my to-go place to order chicken wings and wedges. If we're ordering during game day, we're always prepared to wait through a line of people doing the same thing. read more

I love this gem of a business. I use the drive-thru. Mostly then you park and they bring the food to your car. It never takes very long. Everyone I had contact with was friendly and had a SMILE. My favorite chicken joint. Tates Creek and Georgetown Rd both seem to always bring their A game. My go to is either three spicy legs and wedges or rib tips with baked beans and wedges. So with just trying something for the first time being here, I decided to play it safe with the $3.60 deal. For this price, one gets 6 chicken pieces and a roll. It was amazing to note that when I placed the order to when I received it, the service was SPEEDY! Definitely left me with a good impression. If that were not enough, I found they actually threw in, not sure if intentionally, 2 more chicken pieces. I received 8 chicken pieces and a roll for $3.82! After eating the meal, I have to say that this chicken is probably up there with Indi's, it was that good! Since I ordered the spicy, I have to say that the flavor was not overwhelming to the point that it would destroy the chicken. The chicken also fell off the bone! The portion sizes of the chicken are about the size, if not bigger, than the wings at Buffalo Wild Wings (and those are totally overpriced!) and I am sure it would be a raving restaurant if they sauced it up like Wing Zone does! Love this place for chicken of course but my new favorite I've been getting for the last year is the fish. It's cooked to order so you'll have to wait a bit but it's soooo good. The food, as usual, was wonderful. They have the best spicy chicken around IMHO. It was worth a drive from Frankfort to get it. Cheap, well-spiced, never too greasy, and way better than the home state chain, you can get a box with giant tenders, giant potato wedges, and maybe even lie to yourself that red beans and rice count as a vegetable and consume your way into a soul food stupor. Sure, the dipping sauces are weak mass-produced stuff, and I was not thrilled about their mac and cheese, but the chicken is where it counts the most, and honestly? I don't even LIKE fried chicken all that much! Mediocre and poor showings from other places in the past makes me really only want it when I'm in the mood for it.
