You'll need to find parking in the nearby neighborhood and then walk over to the festival. Local vendors and businesses have booths and this year we spotted a few food trucks. A few tables and chairs are provided to sit and eat. One section is geared to younger attendees, offering chalk art and pumpkins to paint. Music is scheduled during both days. This gathering felt small in terms of local vendors to shop and the volume of the music was overwhelming while shopping. The pathways also became crowded due to the streets having booths on both sides of the path. Same for the area in front of the stage which you need to pass through to get to other vendor booths. This is a "nice to do" if you're nearby or want to add it as part of your day, but I wouldn't choose it over other favorites.

St Rita Summer Picnic is a yearly Catholic Church picnic that traditional runs the 3rd Thursday,…read moreFriday and Saturday of July with Thursdays being a ride night only and Friday and Saturday featuring the whole picnic. As an actual parishioner of this church I've attended this picnic since a young child and been to over 30 picnics and I've actually worked/volunteered at the picnic since my 7th grade year and for over 25 years. As mentioned Thursday is strictly a ride night. In the past they have had carnival rides but recently they have switched over to inflatables. They usually charge $15 an armband and you have unlimited usage on the inflatables. They offer the this same package during the picnic on Friday and Saturday nights. The picnic itself consist of place a dime on a number and spin a wheel type games for prizes from booths such as cake, plants, fruit, and toys. They also have booths and games aimed for younger kids such as duck pond, 4 in a row, sand art and even have a used book sale located inside the church. The picnic also features a beer garden out on the baseball field that offers beer tickets (usually $4 a ticket) gambling options like showdown poker, over/under dice game, big 6 and pull Tabs. Food wise they usually have a few carnival style food trucks that offer pizza, pretzels and nachos. They also have a sandwich booth worked by volunteers that sells fish sandwiches, brawts, hotdogs and French fries. Their is a super popular Mexican street corn/elote booth and a taco and fajita booth that is really tasty. To add even more to the great food options the picnic on Saturday only from 4pm-730pm have a chicken dinner inside the gym. This is extremely popular and usually on Saturday at 4pm the ticket line is wrapped around the whole Picnic. Tickets are $13 adult and $10 and you get two big pieces chicken, with unlimited sides featuring noodles, cole slaw, cucumber salad, green beans and tomatoes. It also features unlimited refills of tea, water or lemonade and a ticket for an ice cream. The dinner is worked by the parish members kids and they always work real hard and take care of the customers. The reason the line is so long is they chicken and sides are great. Very filling and tasty meal. Overall a very fun and busy picnic. Friday nights are the more mild nights as Saturday's can get jam packed crowded. Very popular picnic in the area and many refer to it as an okolona (community it is located in) reunion. I'm a bit biased being a long time visitor and worker but me and several others have made very fun and life long memories over this 2-3 day picnic.

I…read moregrew up in this area and I've been to this picnic mini mini years many times I've had a lot of memories and ever since I've had children it's been more difficult to get out to the picnic because I don't really have babysitters and things I have taken them to ride night and they enjoy that but the days in my teens and 20s of going here and just having a blast with all my buddies are long gone but the memories are still there.

This house every year is synced to 87.9 fm radio and the lights and characters blink and talk along to the music and custom made "commercials". I honestly had no idea this house existed until 2021. I do not live far at all from this house so when I seen there website/Facebook page I had to come check it out. Absolutely worth the drive to check this place out. This house alone is worth the trip however we noticed that on that same road of zoneton not even a half a mile away is another house or two that has sown very extravagant lights. Which to me makes zoneton road maybe the areas best stretch or holiday light viewing. Overall, very cool house and the radio station and commercials pre made for the family are very cool and innovative. Very glad I stumbled across there page and found out this place existed. It will become an annual place we visit and since it is close to home I'm sure we will even tie out here several more times this holiday season.

Grab a drink or some food at the Cafe or the food court, skate, enjoy the crowd, shop and get in the holiday spirit. At 1.00pm on Dec 19th it was hoppin, so many people and cars but we were able to park in the very back of the lot. Be patient with crowds and get a reservation at the Cafe.

Another fun derby event, The Bed Races. A derby week tradition for our friends and family. We go…read moreearly to tailgate, see the beds displayed and decorated and get to chat with the bed crews. It was a bit different this year due to the construction all around Broadbent Arena and a potential storm in the Louisville area. The beds that are normally outside were all sitting, decorated inside the west wing of the fairgrounds. It was nice to see the beds all lined up with few people around them. The Parade of Beds is always festive seeing the decorated beds parade around the arena. Then to the races. It is always a riot seeing the wheels fall off beds, beds eating the cones while racing around the course, runners falling and the crowd cheering for one of the 2 beds racing each race. Just an all around fun kickoff to derby week for the entire family. Parking is $15 and you'll need a Derby pin to enter the races.

The Great Bed Races is kind of an odd ball concept, and it's incredibly niche, but it is so much…read morefun! Its a Kentucky Derby event, and though it may not be as popular as the Pegasus parade, or the actual derby, I think it's even more fun. Charities and company's have the opportunity to dress a bed up and race around the Broadbent Arena at the Kentucky Expo center- tailgating here is very popular, very serious, and definitely worth stopping by.

Got food from healthy Acia Bowl with fruit, peanuts which was fresh and light. Also an Italian Sausage Sandwich with onions from Savori which had mighty flavors on soft thick bread. We ended up walking 10,000 steps and enjoyed the experience. The weather was great and crowds lighter as well.

Another great experience at the Kentucky State Fair!…read more Going to the fair isn't the cheapest, but you're guaranteed to see some funny, awesome, one-of-a-kind things. This includes: * The cow costume contest! I know I wrote about this in my past review, but this seems to be an overlooked aspect of the fair. Cows and their kid handlers dress up in coordinating costumes. The creativity, the uncooperative cows and inopportune moos, the announcer just trying to keep up with it all -- it is a sight! * All of the livestock and animals you can get up and close with. These folks really take pride in their animals. Love to see it! * The great arts, crafts and other odd bits entered to win ribbons. I love it with people go big on their niche interests, and this is the Super Bowl (or at least the state version) for this. * The food! Every year something more and more adventurous and out there gets introduced. I didn't get to do as much epicurious exploring, but you know it's all there. * The rides. My kids are getting old enough to look forward to this. While this is sure to make an expensive experience even more so, I know we'll be spending more time here in years to come. There was construction around the fairgrounds this year, which made getting to where we needed to go a bit difficult, but I'm excited to see what the expo center expansion means for the fair in years to come. The state fair is its own thing, and I'm here for it.

The Louisville Mini Maker Faire is an event for Crafters, Makers, Inventors, and Artists to…read moreshowcase their work. This event was created for a chance for people who "make" things, be it cookies, rockets or everything in-between. The Mini Maker Faire took place on Museum Row and had a large variety of exhibitors, as well as a number of food trucks. It was really neat to wander through and see all of the various projects people were showcasing, including a live action game of battleship, wandering robots, and make it yourself game controllers. While I think anyone could enjoy themselves, I think a lot of the projects were aimed at kids. Unfortunately, we had thunderstorms moving through the area, which put a little bit of a damper on the day. Overall, this was a fun event full of interesting projects. I'd especially recommend it for families and kids of all of ages who are interested in science or technology.

Never having been to the Maker Faire before, I wasn't sure what to expect. There were many booths…read morewith interactive activities mostly targeted at younger kids: live battleship (in a pool with real smoke!), robots racing or fighting (not really sure), and a chance to roll uphill using group strength (rope pull) in a cart. Food trucks rounded out the activities, and local schools and publications offered informational booths. I'd say if you have a science minded kiddo to put it on the calendar for next year. Or, if they aren't that interested in science, it might just be the environment to inspire a new passion!
