CHILAQUILES RED with vegan fried chicken

The service was super attentive and our food and drinks were incredible! The vegan chilaquiles were ON FIRE! The hubby had a ranch water that was so bubbly and delicious too!

The days of grease guns and gasoline fumes have been replaced with vintage music and the delicious aroma of corn tortillas combined with grilled meats at this old Esso station. Dining outside at this busy street corner is like eating in the middle of a moving painting--chaotic, colorful, and endlessly entertaining. The symphony of the city combined with the clanging of silverware while being serenaded by the Mamas and the Poppas, it all wraps you like a warm breeze, it's an electrifying energy that feels both invigorating and alive. Meanwhile every staff member seems to glide effortlessly through the space, moving with purpose, assuring you an excellent dining experience. If you're lucky enough to get Mikey for a server, his energy is contagious--he lifts your mood and he will delver an excellent dining experience. This one-page menu is the perfect mix of simplicity and diversity, capturing the essence of Mexican food without overwhelming, giving you just enough to excite your taste buds and leave you wanting more. Gringo's Old Fashioned is a unique and comforting twist on the popular drink and the chorizo enchiladas will want you coming back for more, my only wish would be for flour tortillas in place of the con tortillas. Cheers!

Fun & friendly little Mexican restaurant. The customer service, ginger margarita and the pico de galo salsa were the highlights! The green chicken enchiladas were flavorful. (The chips were the lowlights... no seasoning and a bit greasy) HOWEVER, it could have been an off-night on the chips... regardless, I would recommend giving them a shot, as I will be back . (items of note:* it's street parking *it is pretty loud in the restaurant and the tables are fairly close, however there is outside seating as well)

We were looking for some good food and decided on Mexican. I'm so glad we chose this spot. We showed up on a Friday in the early evening, so it wasn't packed at all. We easily found parking right in front. The restaurant had a chill atmosphere. We ordered a few cocktails and got guacamole and chips as an appetizer. I decided to try something new for me: the verde chiquillas, which was so good. It was full of excellent flavor, and I almost cleared the whole plate. If you're downtown and want Mexican food, this is definitely a good move.

We stopped by here for a snack on a beautiful August afternoon. We sat outside under an umbrella and closely placed fans, so it was super comfortable for a NC afternoon. My date and I split the Gringo Trio Platter with chips, with Chipotle and Serrano salsas. It was the perfect amount for two people and it was fresh and delicious! We really liked the chicken taquitos that were served piping hot and filled with pulled chicken. The guacamole was amazing and devoured first. This was the perfect snack with a cold beer on a summer afternoon!

First time here and we enjoyed it. The service, the drinks and the food were spot on. Everything was tasty and fresh. My wife's Tortilla soup was delicious. I had the Alambre with steak. It was cooked perfectly and the dish had a nice kick of spice to it. We will definitely be back.

Always delicious and a great vibe- go in and sit at the bar or grab a seat outside when the weather is right. The service is fast and the vegan options are quality!

Stopped in on a chilly December night with four friends. We were seated outside but tent and heaters kept us plenty toasty. We were thirsty and asked for a round of waters. All my friends also ordered margaritas. They brought me a water and my friends margaritas, no water. We ordered chips and the jalapeño and Morita salsas which both had a heat of 2. They were delicious but a little spicier than a 2 to me. Therefore I drank all my water and needed more and my friends still needed water. When a guy brought our food we asked for water and he said okay. I ordered the cheese enchiladas. Not something I would normally order but the description sounded interesting and I was not disappointed! They were not your standard cheese enchiladas. The cheese was firm with a delicious flavor -- hard to describe. Still, our waters never arrived. Eventually our waitress returned and we asked for water for the third time. Eventually she brought it. The place earns 5 stars for delicious food and fun atmosphere but service left much to be desired.

This was my first time in this restaurant, and I had a great experience. It has a fun and colorful atmosphere with lots of food and drinks in the menu to choose from. I came here for a lunch meeting on a Wednesday and ordered the chicken enchilada with beans and some chips. Everything was delicious. I'm sure this place gets even more fun during happy hour and on weekends. Be aware that there are very few parking spots available but plenty of free and affordable street parking. Overall, good stuff!

    Chicken tacos

Gringo A Go-Go has such a fun vibe. Inside and outside seating. I ordered the chicken tacos, which were good but incredibly oily (like a pool of oil). My husband really liked his one taco (the one with the pineapple) and was just okay about the others. Salsas were good. The margarita is served in a water glass and used orange juice? That was a little odd. We'll be back because we can walk here and I'd love to give the enchiladas a shot!

Is the regular menu available on Sundays or just the brunch menu?

The regular menu is available on sundays but after 3pm that's when brunch is over.

Are the vegan cheese quesadillas good?

Yes! They are excellent. Lots of vegan cheese, very filling and served with a side of beans and rice and salsa.

It never came. After waiting, we had to flag down a server walking by, who eventually brought one--only for it to be broken. It then took another 10 minutes before we finally got a functional highchair. Throughout the visit, the staff seemed far more interested in talking amongst themselves than actually paying attention to guests. The overall atmosphere felt disorganized, inattentive, and unprofessional. The worst part came after we left. I realized almost immediately that I had left my wallet behind and called right away. Instead of any sense of urgency or willingness to help, the host who answered was incredibly rude and dismissive. Before I could fully explain the situation, she cut me off and told me to "call back tomorrow." When I tried to quickly describe the wallet--color, contents, anything that might help--she hung up on me mid-sentence. Considering I called almost immediately after leaving and was brushed off so quickly, it raises serious concerns about whether any real effort was made to locate it. I would hope any establishment would take something like that seriously. Between the lack of attention, the disorganization, and the way a simple, time-sensitive situation was handled, this place clearly has serious issues with customer service. I won't be back.

The service was very good with what seemed to be a newer server. She checked in quite often until it was time to bring the check. Had to ask her for that after about a 10 minute wait after she cleaned off the table. Outside of that, very friendly and attentive. The ACP had very thin slices of chicken which was nice, but not as much cheese as you typically see in other restaurants. According to the server, you do have to ask for some flour tortillas on the side if you want them as they don't come by default. The Pollo Tropical had a nice thin layer of chicken breast covered in cheese.... tasty. The margaritas were good and have a smear of taijin on one side of the rim which gives the drink a little spice. Prices are in line with other restaurants in the area. Definitely would recommend it.

The staff were very attentive and hospitable. On Tuesdays, they have a Mix & Match 3 tacos deal for $11.99. You can mix both flour or corn tortilla tacos, but it doesn't include the Birria tacos. I ended up trying the shrimp tacos on flour tortilla, ribeye taco on corn, and al pastor on corn. I also tried a bite of the carne asada on flour taco from my sister. I would highly recommend the al pastor taco. It's juicy (comes with pineapple sticks) and the flavor is fantastic. The shrimp was also good but it's on the heavier side bc they add cheese. The ribeye was my least favorite and although the flavor is good, it's pretty dry without much sauce. If you want steak, I would go for the carne asada instead (they add guac) Overall, fantastic restaurant and a great deal for tacos on Tuesdays. My favorite part is the complimentary chips and salsa.
