Always happy to come out every winter to take a peak at this La Mirada Christmas highlight! There's always a huge crowd right by the cul-de-sac where this amazingly decorated house is located, so I highly recommend parking a little further and walking over. When we went, there was a little stand for churro's and souvenirs. I love that there is a TV display out front and that the soup bubble makers are on pretty regularly for visitors to interact with. Looking for something to do during the holiday season go check out the Griswolds Christmas Vacation house on La Mirada. This house is a replica of the Griswold family home from the hit holiday movie. It's very detailed all the way down to the huge Christmas tree on top of the Griswold family station wagon. No admission but you're welcome to leave donations and you get to take home a magnet if you do. There are snacks and merchandise from the movie sold if you're interested. Hours are 5:00 to 10:00pm daily all the way through December 31st. Parking wasn't too bad in the neighborhood. This Christmas I was enlightened to the Griswold Christmas movie. It's your funny late 90's cheesy family holiday movie. Full of laughter, jokes, and all around family amusement. Upon approaching this house there were cars that lined the streets and a house that brightened the entire neighborhood. There it is, the Griswold house! Just like the movie and the notable characters. Right here in La Mirada in Socal! I suggest watching the movie first so you can point all the various movie parts and get the character names. What a fun place to visit during Christmas. Lights, lights, lights with a Christmas Vacation time warp. Plenty of people seeking out a Jolly Holly Christmas. Plenty of dogs too, including mine soaking up the fun. I've never seen the movie but I have seen the original Vacation and loved it. Located off Beach and Rosecrans sits a replica of the Griswold Christmas house with not a single light missing. The house is crazy and probably costs a fortune to turn on the lights. Which is why the accept donations to keep their Christmas house running. It may not snow in Cali but it does snow at this house. They sell hot chocolate, popcorn and churros. Christmas Vacation House in La Mirada - A Holiday Spectacle That Brings the Griswolds to Life As a lifelong fan of Christmas Vacation, visiting the Christmas Vacation House in La Mirada was an unforgettable experience. After seeing it on TikTok, I knew I had to check it out, and it absolutely delivered. This is a must-see for fans of the movie or anyone who appreciates incredible holiday displays. The attention to detail is incredible. Clark's station wagon with the massive Christmas tree (root ball and all), Cousin Eddie's RV, the pickup truck from the logging scene, and even the infamous chair ruined by the electrocuted cat are all featured. Clark is also hilariously hanging from the gutters of the house, just like in the movie. A favorite detail of mine was the scene in the upper window, where you can spot Clark in the attic, watching old home movies -- a small but fantastic touch. The character recreations are a major highlight. Clark, in a hockey mask and wielding a chainsaw, confronts Todd and Margo, perfectly capturing one of the film's funniest moments. Cousin Eddie is there in his bathrobe and ear flap hat, next to his RV, emptying the chemical toilet with a hose. Uncle Lewis and Aunt Bethany are positioned near the burned-out Christmas tree, adding even more authenticity to the display. The Jelly of the Month Club delivery guy is also there, standing on the doorstep with the infamous envelope. Adding to the immersion, audio clips play at each scene, featuring music and lines from the movie. A big screen in the yard shows the film's intro, and there are lots of souvenirs for sale, including Christmas Vacation-themed T-shirts, mugs, glasses, and toys. They even offer snacks, though I didn't catch exactly what was available. Because this is a neighborhood display, parking is street-only, and it can get quite busy. Be patient, allow plenty of time, and be respectful of the residents. Donations are welcomed, and given that the family has invested well over $100,000 in this display since 2017, it's clear this is a labor of love. If you're a fan of Christmas Vacation or just love impressive holiday decorations, this is a can't-miss experience. I'm proud to say that this is my friend Jeff's house. I tell you I don't feel like it's Christmas till I drive to La Mirada see this house. Get some Pretzels Coco or a churros and just chill ! Take it all in ! People literally showing up with lawn chairs and sit in front of his house and watch the movie. Now if you grew up in the 80s, you know these national lampoon movies are everything ! Literally a cult classic ! Definitely on my top 10 favorite Christmas movies. The best part is all the attention that it's gotten. Radio and TV slots have covered this house. Yelp gave him a page ! I love all the attention that this house gets because it's so much work ! Such a big gesture of love that he does for the community. This place is open I went on Dec. 8th it is a must see if you are a fan of Chevy Chase and or the Movies. It was truly amazing to see something like this. The city was asking for this to be taken down. They were beginning to charge Jeff Norton $500.00 a day. One of the reasons why is because he litterally built a second story just for this display. If your a fan of or have seen the Christmas Vacation movie and are curious- coming by here is totally worth it. This person went all out for this free experience. If this isn't too far away for you it's a cool holiday experience to check out. We went on Christmas night and although there was quite a bit of people there it wasn't too overly crowded. The cul de sac or dead end street this house is in is closed so no driving through. We parked a street away and walked - be prepared as it can be cold out so dress accordingly- although there was plenty of people there in there holiday pajamas to soak in the experience. We even brought out pups so it is pet friendly. The owner has gone all out on this display. The second story is even a mock up. There is fake snow and audio to go with parts. Christmas vacation memorabilia is for sale like the moose egg nog mugs. There is a donation box as well - even accepts venmo. Tons of lights and mannequins to represent persons from the movie. 3 cars including the infamous cousin Eddie RV. read more

Funny to think that a guy who decorates his house for Christmas becomes a Yelpable review, but if there ever was someone who deserves a fantastic review, and a "You gotta see this", it's this place. It's become an annual pilgramage for us, and every year, he adds more to the display. AN ABSOLUTELY MUST DO! DO NOT MISS THIS! 5 STARS! A FREE EVENT & FREE PARKING! Hours of Operation 5PM-10PM Every Day Weather Permitting. The Griswold Christmas Vacation House is AMAZING & has to be seen in person. What INCREDIBLE detail! But the story around the home is equally Amazing! A real life Miracle on 34th Street has happened this year in December 2021 in the city of La Mirada. Jeff Norton the homeowner has been putting on a show of his Griswold decorations for the past several years. Each year he adds something new & the display gets bigger & bigger. He's been collecting for over 15 years & has one of the Largest Griswold Collections. This year he built a facade of a 2nd story attached to his home just like the Griswold Movie. Because it was a temporary Christmas decoration he just added it to his home. The city of La Mirada saw it differently that he didn't get a permit & viewed it as an addition to his home. Lots of fines totaling $1200 were incurred & this looked liked it might be headed to court. But the residents of La Mirada & Movie Fans from all over banded together & paid the fines. Because of the public outcry & pressure the government buckled & caved in. There will be No more fines, No court appearances & the display can stay up for The holidays for all to enjoy. The display however must come down in January. The government did not want to appear as being the The Real Scrooge or The Real Grinch that Stole Christmas. LOL! Norton thanked the government, the town, the supporters & all those that donated & rallied behind his Decorations. And yes you can still donate which will help buy more decorations for next year. This is a great example of people coming together & working to bring about a positive change. We should all take a valuable lesson like this joint cooperation to get something positive accomplished. What a Great Story! The Griswold House The first thing you will notice when you arrive is the home is painted in that same colored paint as the movie - Eggnog Yellow with Evergreen Shutters. You will see Clark Griswold, The Christmas Lights & Decorations, the Next Door Neighbors, the Electrified Cat Chair, Cousin Eddie's Van, The Police Car, The Stingy Boss Hogtied with a Christmas Bow, The Round Silver Sled, The Family car with the big Christmas tree with the roots on top of the roof & on & on. They even make it Snow here! They even have an outdoor Big Screen TV set up so the movie plays continuously for all to watch & enjoy. Even the neighbors have some Lights & Christmas decorations of their own. There's a donation box you can Venmo so we can keep this tradition going on for many years. Afterwards Be sure to go home & watch the 1989 Christmas Classic film which is one of the Best Christmas movies of all time. It gets better with age. The movie features Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid, Doris Roberts, Juliette Lewis, & others. The title song is performed by the great Mavis Staples. Mr. Norton did an Unbelievable job recreating this classic film. Can't wait to see what new item he adds next year. We visited the Griswold family vacation house in California. We are from Hawaii. We have watched the videos before of this place and decided to visit on this last trip. Jeff was so informative about what he was doing. My husband is a fan of this movie and was so happy to be able to see this beautiful display. He took a lot of pictures. There were more to set up but we were leaving to return to Hawaii the next day so wasn't able to see the full finish product. But what we saw was outstanding. Keep the joy alive. 5 STARS all the way!! This is an awesome display of lights a movie recreation. The owner thought of everything. You have to look for the little things that really make this holiday treat so awesome. Like the cat that used up all 9 lives and is stuck to the bottom of the chair. The saucer that is in the trash after Clark went down the hill. The attention to detail on the RV, the Ford Taurus Wagon and the best of all MR. Shirley in his pajamas wrapped up with in a big red bow. Amazing amount of effort. First time participant; long time follower. More stuff is apparently added each year. The RV is supposed to actually be from the movie itself. So much to look at. Even fake snow every 15 min or so. Hot chocolate, coffee, even churros are available for modest donation. Sadly no eggnog like the movie. Merch, including discontinued collectables is available with donation. City gives him slack each year. Each year seems it could be the last. GO SO IT BEFORE THE CITY POSSIBLY DOESN'T ALLOW IT THE FOLLOWING YEAR. Went to view this amazing holiday light setup last year for the first time... I will be coming back every year moving forward. If you come visit, please bring a few bucks to donate, as the City gives him problems every year for the 2nd floor addition that he puts up to more visually represent the Griswolds home and he has to pay fine/s to "deal with" the building departments BS; as a Contractor, I can relate!
