Single person behind counter taking orders and payments is a bottleneck delaying the transaction and probably quite stressful. They must have had many problems with customers as there are signs all over about no laptop policy, no food or drinks from anywhere, orders taken only when you are off your phone, and a 4% credit card fee which is above average. The line to order unfortunately blocks the door to the kitchen. Food and coffee are okay. read more

OH DO I HAVE SOME TEA TO SHARE Here's the summary...We came in from the rain ready to spend money, but instead of being treated like guests, we were treated like rule-breakers over my wife's half-finished cold hotel tea. She was sent back into the rain to throw it away. We left and went to SoCo Grille, where we were welcomed like friends, served amazing food, and even had staff cheer up our baby. This is what happens when "policy" matters more than people. Okay now here's the full cup of tea for those who would like some morning reading We walked in from the rain, my wife holding her half-finished cold hotel tea, excited to buy a fresh one here. Instead of "Good morning," the woman behind the counter (arms crossed) led with: "You can't have that tea in here." I explained we were here to spend money, plenty of it, but she clung to "policy" because they sell that tea. That "policy" sent my wife back into the rain to get rid of something she wasn't even drinking anymore. We decided that we wouldn't reward rudeness with our business and left. As we walked out, she tossed a sarcastic "Enjoy your tea!" at us. We crossed the street to SoCo Grille, where we were treated like guests, not rule-breakers. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and friendly conversation from the moment we walked in. Their delicious, affordable breakfast was worth every cent, and their kindness shone through when a staff member crafted a balloon glove to cheer up our fussy 1-year-old, bringing a smile to his face. SoCo Grille turned a sour start into a great morning. If you want to be welcomed, fed well, and treated with genuine hospitality, skip Grit & Grind and head to SoCo Grille. They get it! Here's the lesson: Policies are meant to protect a business, not push customers away. Good judgment means knowing when to make an exception...especially for a paying guest who's about to spend more money. Enforcing a rule for the sake of the rule might check a box, but it can cost you sales, loyalty, and reputation. I thought I would give it a try despite the bad reviews. I'd like to add that I even followed all of their rules. I ordered my food and a coffee then sat down to read the paper. 40 minutes later I asked the man if my food was coming and he pointed to the woman and said "That's on her." When I told her that I ordered food she venomously spat "No you didn't!" at me then ignored me as I tried to ask for my receipt. I was shocked. I am completely certain that I did. All it would have taken to rectify the situation would have been for her to hear me out or offer to ring me up again. You can go here if you'd like to test your luck on what kind of service you will get but you will be supporting a business that doesn't care about people. Barista was definitely not warm and fuzzy, no big deal, everyone has a bad day. What really ticked me off was the woke sticker on my cup. I would have never stepped foot in the place let alone purchased something if I had realized they were gonna ram their politics down my throat. Despite a few other reviews, I found this quaint little shop to be very friendly, service great, with a restroom (saw a review stating no restroom). The blueberry scone was fantastic, being a self described scone aficionado having had scones from England to Ireland, to Australia and of course the US, very much liked this style. Of course scones styles are dependent on country, history, palate, and local desires. The coffee with a pumpkin flavor was equally delicious and matched well with the scone. I may have to go back to have another and take a photo. . I recommend giving them a try. read more

First review I've written to say what a terrible experience I had here. Staff should be ashamed. I have never been in a less welcoming coffee shop, the customer service and "rules" alone have made me refuse to go back. I left my children outside eating muffins, to avoid having a mess inside, and both workers kept staring at them through the window making comments, because my children did not buy the muffins at their coffee shop. Even though I was buying their coffee, they were so annoyed my kids were eating muffins outside. I was in shock and even said, "those are my children"- as I was ordering my coffee. They didn't care. I loved the idea of this place, but, their snarky, and overbearing signs are over-the-top. They have multiple signs saying no restrooms, no table use for more than a few minutes, no WiFi, do not use your IPad, Laptop, etc. the one sign says don't bother to ask, etc. This is not a coffeehouse to meet, chat, and relax with the community. Similar to Barbara M's review posted on 7/1/24 from just a week ago, Christopher C, and Maria H, I also had a similar experience just this morning. This is the first time I've ever written a review with an experience like this as I typically and promoting and praising businesses, especially small businesses. This establishment is uninviting and the staff is not friendly, which to me is more important or impactful than a cup of joe or an overpriced bagel. Last year around the same time, I was able to grab a table, enjoy a beverage, and use my laptop for an hour or so while my son attended a summer camp across the street. Today, I went in at a time that only 1 table was being used. I pulled my laptop out planning to be there for an hour (again, son is at camp across the street), picked up something from the grab and go fridge and was standing in line to purchase it. Before I even made it up to the counter to pay, some man walked up to me asking if that was my laptop and then proceeded to tell me it's a laptop free zone. I was thinking "Okay, I can work quietly for an hour on my laptop, or I can be talking on my phone for the next hour or use my ipad but not my laptop?" I put the item I was about to purchase back, and when I went to collect my things, the patron at the table next to me asked why I was leaving so soon. I told him that apparently I'm not allowed to sit here quietly on my computer and left. I will not only not be returning and I strongly advise that if you're looking for coffee or a bite to eat, consider the other businesses within walking distance. Urban Brew is an adorable coffee shop AND bookstore with charming gifts as well. Thomas Cafe right across the street has the friendliest staff and provides generously sized food portions. PurrPour is a quaint cafe with cats! All excellent options. read more

I've read the other reviews which were not very good to say the least. My wife and I dropped by last Sunday. My overall experience was great! Food was great and coffee was delicious. The staff was a little short handed. But they were friendly and efficient. My wife commented we needed to try Grit and Grind sooner. So we will be definitely going back. They don't have many indoor tables, but we went there about 10:30 so not exactly a busy period. read more

My family was visiting Georgetown just for the night, and we went to grab a bite to eat here the morning we were leaving! The staff was rude and the signs all over listing the "rules" while eating there were ridiculous! We felt unwelcome and we were paying customers! What was most disturbing, was the fact that, they had multiple cactus plants out front! My 4 year old son accidentally brushed up against one and hurt his hand so badly! His hand was covered with thorns! He was inconsolable because he was in so much pain! The owner was aware, as she saw me picking out the many thorns and said absolutely nothing! She didn't even ask if he was ok or offer to help! She saw him crying and screaming and showed absolutely NO EMPATHY AT All! I am in complete shock that she would even have the plants out front knowing there are children eating there too! We have been coming to Georgetown for many years because we live in close proximity, but I have NEVER experienced this level of unprofessionalism from a business locally ever! My son could have been seriously injured and she just laughed at us as we left. I normally don't write reviews but , in this case, it is definitely warranted! Will NEVER spend my money at this establishment again! We will continue to go to the other friendly places along front street that are much more inviting from now on! Again, why would you have multiple cactuses outside of a business ever??? It's mind boggling! And with all of the insignificant signs throughout the place - the MOST important sign should state "beware of the cactus plants" before you even step foot on the property!-so ridiculous! ****On a more positive note! The George Hotel across the street was absolutely beautiful with a friendly staff! The accommodations were top notch and I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting the area!
