Kris is fantastic! I had my first appointment with her last week. When I arrived, my hair was a mixture of natural browns, grey & silver, with blonde highlights and brown low lights from a previous salon. I was not happy with the way the lowlights were growing out, because the previous hairdresser had put too much brown up front, which resulted in an ugly line against my natural silver in front. So, I looked for a new salon, and that's how I found Kris. She has great reviews, and now I know why. Kris took a completely different approach to my hair. Instead of going back to lowlights, she advised me to focus on blond highlights, perhaps two shades of blond the next time I see her, which would blend better with my silver as the color grows out. My natural browns would provide depth. Sounded like a good plan and it was. She did a great job of blending partial blond highlights into my previous colors, so that I no longer have the line up front. The mixture of shades is soft and flattering all over. In addition to a color correction, I also wanted a modest trim - just enough to keep the hair healthy, not to make it short. I like my hair long, and Kris was the first hairdresser in quite a while who really understood that. My hair is curly, but also fine in texture, which could go limp if not cut right. She knew how to handle that too. I can't tell you how many times I have gone to salons where they keep cutting too much off, or otherwise give me something totally different from what I asked. Not Kris. She really listened to what I was saying, understood the look I wanted, and gave me the best trim and shaping ever. Now my hair has brightness and bounce. I keep admiring how pretty it is! Short story: Kris Clark is literally "Hands of Magic"....so stop reading and book her for your hair needs (and makeup if need be!!) Long story: I was in the DC area this past summer for a convention and booked an appointment with her, after being recommended by an extended family member, whose circle of girlfriends patronaged Kris' studio. Walked into her studio, and you just feel like home. Kris is warm, welcoming and gets right to work. She assessed my locks, I conveyed what I wanted to do | needed. So she layered and cut and I LOVED it. Not to mention, the added bonus was the blowout lasted for DAYS!!! Fast forward 3 months later, I literally booked an appointment with her for balayage and haircut. I say literally because I reside in NYC and took a flight to get my hair done!! NO KIDDING. Kris is THAT amazing. Normally I would be apprehensive because I have come across too many red-orange hues. But look at Kris' work ..her photos depict various shades on a wide range of hair color - all which look great! Kris gave me the most amazing caramel balayage , that I had several women (strangers) on the subway asking me where I got my hair done !!! When I find someone so skilled, I will make that trip. Yes, I took a flight from NYC to see her. Kris is so well versed in her craft, it's amazing. She has expertise in different hair textures, colors, lengths etc.you name it. She has done it!! I'm a professional photographer and found myself with a big shoot scheduled and in severe need of a hair stylist . A colleague highly recommended Kris and after a short conversation with her I realized that even if she didn't end up being as good I as I'd been told... she was someone with whom I definitely wanted to work. Before the shoot I had provided her with some rough ideas of what I was looking for and when we met she was immediately realized that the specifics of what I wanted wouldn't work with the model's hair, but within minutes we had a new plan that fit as well with my original thoughts if not better. We had similar conversations about makeup as well, and before long all three of us were ecstatic with the results. She brought a relaxed, casual and confident professionalism to a situation in which I was in serious need. I consider the shoot a big success... and not in small part to Kris. I have worked with her several times since then and not only have I been extremely happy with the results... I've also been extremely happy simply working with her. I signed up for Yelp just so I could praise Kris. By pure luck, I happened to go to the salon where she was based and asked for their best stylist for color. Thank goodness for that receptionist because she connected me to Kris! I'd had some bad experiences with stylists who didn't understand my hair or how it would react to color. Too red, too dark, not what I wanted. But with Kris, she immediately got what I wanted, explained every step she would take, and then worked her magic! She also understood what I need in terms of a haircut. Fine hair is tricky, and she made it look good. I left the salon elated! No transition period for the color to look more natural (and not dark along the hairline). I walked out and was ready to go. Hands down the best salon in Old Town Alexandria! For nearly a decade, Kris Clark has been taking care of my cut and color -- that is the longest I have ever stayed with a stylist in the DC area. Never would I entertain the thought of going to anyone else. Kris is extremely talented at what she does and is a true artist -- I trust her completely. The salon is run professionally and is ably supported by her top notch assistant, Pam, and her awesome styling assistant, Laisha. As long as I've been going to Kris I've never seen anyone walk out of her salon unhappy - the results are always typical Kris - AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL! Kris could not have been nicer, and it's the best cut and color I've ever had! I was so nervous going to someone new after years of getting highlights done somewhere else, but she KILLED IT! The results were so much better than I could have hoped for. She talked through what I had done before and made me feel so comfortable about expressing what I wanted, liked/didn't like. My #1 concern was having it look natural blonde and it turned out flawlessly, plus she sent me off with a perfect cut and blow out - left with a huge pep in my step! In my almost 34 years of life, I have never been 100% satisfied with a salon experience. To me, it is an anxiety inducing nightmare where you just cross your fingers and pray you don't look horrific when it's over. Having said that, I learned today that it can be absolutely delightful! Kris is so knowledgable, fun, talented,and completely put me at ease with her constant explaining of why and how she was doing what she was doing specific to my personal hair type. I could not have picked a better person to do my first "dramatic" cut and color. I actually enjoyed my visit, and she is FAST! I have sat in a chair for more than 4 hours in the past only to be completely unsatisfied, and in 2 hours with kris, I wound up with the hair I never thought I could have! She is so accomodating. Lordee I needed an appointment at 6 am on a Sunday and she was willing to help. She keeps a stash of chocolate you will want to eat them all, lol. She knows what she's doing, she works FAST and does an amazing job with hair, she blows it out, and also talks about NATURAL products that are very good.If you are on a tight budget she understands. It's embarrassing that I cannot afford to tip her. I just hope those who can make up for me, please because she deserves it. Forget Hair Cuttery, Bubbles, all the other chains that don't care. Found Kris over a year ago when I moved to town. It's always awful having to find a new stylist when you move, but I found a gem!! She rocks! She is so easy to communicate with and knew exactly my hair type and what I needed. And... She is more than a hairstylist! She had talked about how much she enjoys make up artistry and had mentioned she did photo shoots. She said, just show up with clean blown dry hair and me and the photographer (she set up) will do the rest. Kris is AMAZING. I'm a silvering person who wanted to brighten my silvering hair and create a more even, natural look. I have been so frustrated with hair stylists over the years because they seem to never listen to you and do what they deem best. Kris is the total opposite. She listens, will ask questions, explain her questions if you don't understand, and then create a style beyond expectations. Wow! I had a fantastic experience from start to finish and love my haircut! Making my appointment with Kris's assistant, Pam, was easy; she was friendly, helpful and professional. The studio itself is stylish, clean and comfortable. Kris consulted with me about what I wanted and had good ideas to update my look. She gave me the best haircut I've had in a long time. It looks great even when I style it! Kris also has her own line of products that are natural, well priced and work great and yet, I didn't feel pressure to buy anything. Being from out of town and invited to a wedding, I needed an updo. Using Yelp I found Kris. At the time her shop was just a few blocks from the venue, so extra perk. Turns out Kris has moved to across the street from the venue by the time I arrive, so it was SUPER convenient.
