Disappointed to learn that Gro-Rite nurseries as I knew them were no longer in operation. I always enjoyed spending Saturday mornings wandering through the outdoor area and also in the greenhouse. I had to go to a garden center because I have a few more vegetables/herbs to get for my garden this year and I already tapped out Van Wingerden's around the corner for what they had. I always sign up for the membership stuff so I get flyers and discounts or a birthday greeting. Gro-Rite I actually signed up online over a month ago and last year signed up when we moved back to town. Can't find me anywhere in the system. WTF! No discount! I purchase a flat of herbs and 1 4 pack of eggplant $45. I paid $109 at Van Wingerden's for 6 flats of the same size plants!!! Do the math!!! Convenience yes but Beaverbrook Road robbery, hell no!!! I'll buy at your relatives or at a Big Box store before I get ripped off again!!! read more

Overpriced. The flowers we buy from them are dead in 3 days. Stay away from this dump.

I'm just a customer, but have more than 39 years in the horticultural business. I cringe when I hear complaints about quality of plants, topsoil, etc. when most of these issues are either the consumers' lack of knowledge or problems with Mother Nature. Some horticultural points to consider. The quality of topsoil is usually not the cause of grass seed not germinating If you use the correct grade. Bagged topsoil comes in different grades for different uses. Bulk topsoil comes from a local quarry or production plant that supplies most all garden centers and is not unique to any particular one. Lack of germination is most likely old seed, inconsistent water, temperature, or incorrect installation. Dead or drooping flowers the next day after purchasing are almost always from wind desiccation caused by transporting in open truck beds or open car windows. Prolonged wind from just a 15 minute ride, especially in hot weather, can desiccate and kill a good size tree in just a few days. The photos here show exactly that. Always use a tarp in an open truck bed or keep car windows closed. Growth rates/size of annuals change every year depending on sun/clouds, temperature, location, etc and is out of the control of local growers. Garden Centers often buy their stock from local growers and are just as disappointed about their size as the consumer. HD and Lowes mainly contract with southern growers which is why they have a full selection before the snow melts, putting local growers and garden centers out of business which is why I will continue to support my local garden centers. read more

Not impressed. I had a gift card so I went here to buy some hanging baskets. They have a very slim selection very spread out compared to Van Wingerden down the road. The prices were also pretty steep and the girl at the counter had absolutely no customer service skills. No smile, no thank you. No nothing. I recommend going down the road to the other nursery. I recall them being very friendly and even offering a small tomato plant with a purchase. read more

I have been going to Gro-Rite for years and this is first time I have been disappointed. The flats of flowers put in my trunk were extremely small. The hanging planter is nothing like the photos in the emails or on website. Customer Service has done nothing so I put my purchase in dispute with the credit card company. They always have the best flowers and the best trees and shrubs. Their garen decor and home decor is awesome.

The plants at this location are all nicely taken care of and seem to be of nice quality. Unfortunately, the lovely plants are overshadowed by the nasty, miserable, and terribly disorganized employees. Prices are never clearly or accurately marked and employees are never sure about prices. They tried to overcharge me for several plants when I went to check them out and quoted prices that were almost triple what was on the sign and what several employees had told me. I purchased several plants and the store offered to hold them for me until I could pick them up a week later. When I went to pick them up, my plants couldn't be found and employees were rude and accused me of stealing plants even when I produced the receipt for my plants. We use to purchase there every year and more and more plants die and do not come back. They offer NO guarantee on any of their plants. Their service has dropped also. Last year I tried one last time and purchased four perrenials from them. NOT A SINGLE one came back. I purchased over 50 plants last year from various places, and these are the only 4 that did not come back. When I called them, their response was, "it was a rough winter, what do I want?" When I said the other 46 plants came back and they were in the same winter, he said "oh well." I will never purchase anything there again. read more

I went to Gro-rite today to get some mulch. When I got to my car it wouldn't start. I had to go tell the fellow that I would need to bring it over to my car by cart since my car wouldn't start. While I was on hold for AAA he came with his boss and they tried to start it. They both said dead battery. The next thing I know a fellow, who may have been the owner, popped my hood and called over a worker in a truck to jump start my car. They were really amazing. I was so grateful. He acted like it was nothing. I went to get a new battery right away. I'm an avid gardener and have been going to Gro-rite for years. They are super people in my book. read more

Nice big selection. Make sure you look up the coupon online to save $5. I think it's a lil overpriced on some things and deff could get it cheaper at Home Depot or Lowe's. I do think that the cashiers are a lil dim witted and find it ridicules that they take everything off your cart to put it on a new cart, they missed items on on my cart that when I got home needed to go back to replace what was missed. I usually buy my mulch at Home Depot when they have the annual 5 bags for $10.00 sale. I have bought things from your nursery in the past and decided that I would give my business to a small local business instead of a large box store in these troubling times. On April 1st, I ordered 75 bags of black cedar mulch and 10 bags of topsoil (order 20228). I set the order up for delivery. I informed the person (woman) that I purchased my order from, that I would like the shipment to be placed in a few different locations in my yard. She informed me that would not be an issue. I asked if she was sure, she reiterated that it would not be a problem. The order was to be delivered late morning, early afternoon. No order came. I received a call at the end of the day that they were too busy and that the order would come the next day. At the end of day 2, I received a call and told me that no delivery would be made. I was informed that they were having truck issues (believe they said the lift). I said no problem. I agreed for the delivery to be made Monday (today). I said no problem, but that I needed for it to be delivered in the AM. I was told no problem. Your delivery person arrived at my house at 3:45 PM, not in the AM as agreed to. I went to show him the locations where I wanted the mulch. One location was 75 feet from the truck (far, but if I am told not an issue, then it should not be), another location was 30 feet from the truck (quite acceptable), the third location was 10 feet from the truck, and the fourth would have been 5 feet from the truck. Before I got to the third location, the delivery person informed me that he only puts the shipment in one spot and that the first 2 spots were unacceptable. I told him to put all of the items in location 3 (10 feet from the truck). He made the delivery. I was so annoyed by this transaction, that I did not even tip the delivery person, whether any of this was his fault or not. They always say that local businesses treat you better. Stay away . No stars if I could . They sent me 3 yards of BAD topsoil . Spent hundreds on seed and starter fertilizer. . NO grass grew . NOT one blade . Beverley the manager took my complaint via speaker phone . She will insult your intelligence. Wouldn't refund my money . After 5 calls back and forth she offered a discount on BAGGED soil . I offered to send her pictures of my "grass less" lawn . Sooo unprofessional . They lost a long time customer who spent thousands of dollars there . We recently replanted the bushes in our front yard. One of the guys that worked there spent a lot of time with me helping me pick out the right bushes for my space. He was super helpful and very knowledgeable. I shopped around and every other place was about $100 - $150 for the same exact bushes. I was able to get the bushes delivered the next day along which was awesome. They have a huge selection of flowers and potted plants and are reasonably priced. I have been buying my flowers here for years and I am always happy with my purchase. read more
