The customer service is top notch! I like seeing the friendly faces that greet us and talk with us as we shop. They have a good variety of different items. I love getting a great deal!! For example, they had a big bag of pizza rolls for $1.99 AND they were on sale with a BOGO (buy one get one free) price! Lots of good deals like that. I shared photos of a few items I have purchased at Grocery Outlet. The most recent being the loaded chicken pot pie nuggets. They were very salty. But quite tasty overall. I wish they came with a dipping sauce. Something similar to the chicken pot pie roux. The crust on the outside of the nugget was good too. I cut mine in half, to let the steam out. I am writing to detail my shopping experience at Grocery Outlet Market located at Oakdale Road in Modesto, California on July 17, 2026. During my visit, an in-store employee engaged in conduct that is considered to be racially-motivated discrimination and harassment against me. This violation of my civil rights occurred in the personal care items section. After I entered the store and headed left to walk towards the personal items section, a female store clerk was working in the immediate area. We greeted each other then I walked and turned right to the personal item aisle to pick up soap. Right afterwards, the clerk came over to me and - without provocation and out of the context of any standard retail customer service - began to discuss the consumption of alligator meat from Louisiana. During the conversation, the clerk deliberately made unsettling comments about the origin of the alligator, how she wondered what alligators taste like, that some people said it tastes like chicken, and stated that her husband had bought a skinned alligator and that they were going to consume it with friends. I told her that I have never eaten any alligators so I would not know what they taste like. She took out her cellphone and showed me a picture of the alligator that - according to her - was skinned except for its claws. I eventually told her to let me know what it's like and the conversation ended. I selected a pack of soap, left the area and went elsewhere to pick up a few more items to buy. Given my identity as a Black female customer wearing an African-inspired scarf, these comments regarding a skinned animal from a Southern state, unprovoked and directed at me, served as an implicit and highly offensive reference to a deeply disturbing and racist historical trope from American history. Historically, the term "alligator bait" and horrific imagery of using Black children as bait were utilized against African Americans. While the clerk did not explicitly state the historical phrase "alligator bait," the confluence of her unprompted comments about the origins of the alligator, Louisiana, and the specific context of her knowing that I am a Black woman wearing an African-inspired scarf, constituted an egregious act of racial microaggression, implicit racial hatred, and the fostering of a highly offensive, hostile environment. In American history, the phrase "alligator bait" has been used as a derogatory racial slur and historically references abhorrent and insidious acts where Black babies were used to bait alligators. By intentionally singling me out as a Black customer wearing African-inspired attire to discuss this topic, the clerk engaged in targeted racial harassment. The juxtaposition of these topics directly targeted and weaponized deeply painful, historical racial trauma against me as a Black customer. During the exchange, I kept very calm, maintained an oblivious demeanor for my own safety and comfort and navigated the conversation to defuse the situation, however, the employee's actions greatly angered and offended me, making me feel targeted and unwelcomed based on my race. Any business must provide an environment free from discrimination and racial hostility. Unsolicited, racially charged remarks constitutes a hostile public accommodation. It is illegal for a business to discriminate against a customer because of race, gender, disability, religion, citizenship, or other personal characteristics. The clerk's behavior legally constituted a public accommodation violation based on race and racial harassment. By using or evoking historic racially derogatory imagery - like the insidious legacy of alligator bait - directed at (me) a Black customer, the employee created a hostile environment that denied me equal access and enjoyment of a business. Although the store clerk did not explicitly mention "alligator bait," the historical event of "alligator baiting" invokes a horrific historical image towards me for targeted race-based microaggression and form of intimidation. The combination of my African-inspired scarf and the clerk's unprovoked pivot to alligator meat and Louisiana history strongly implied her racially targeted microaggression. Although no one else present in the personal care lane when this occurred, there are surveillance cameras all over Grocery Outlet. I documented the entire incident, notified Grocery Outlet via Certified Mail of what happened and mentioned that the video footage would demonstrate the employee's actions on July 17th. Before July 17, I patronized Grocery Outlet for many years. I - like everyone else - have the right to patronize a place of business free from discrimination plus harassment. As Grocery prices keep going up this is still a place where your money goes really far. You can find high-quality items at great prices and a good selection. Yesterday I had a mixed experience. I did have a full cart and when I got in line to exit the store yesterday, the clerk looked at me and said go to the other line. I'm about to close. So I went into the other line and other shoppers proceeded to go through the line I was told not to use. Then the clerk who told me she was too busy to help me called for more people to go through her line, and the second clerk told me to go back to the first line. When I got BACK into her line, she rolled her eyes. I said you just called me to come over but I know you told me you were going to close. She said oh it's fine. It's just a big order. Well, I'm pretty sure that's the point of a grocery store. I go in there once in a while when I have time and I do stock up on quite a bit of things I try to be helpful and bag my own stuff as much as I can, but the checker and the clerk we're going at an extremely slow pace and the clerk went on and on about items I bought for my dogs and then proceeded to tell me all about his dogs, but could not and on telling a story even though the next customer was getting checked out, I literally had to tell him OK I have to go now I'm going to walk away because he would not stop talking. Every time I go here, I feel like the clerks are rude, and I feel uncomfortable with them being pushy. They all seem like they work pretty hard, but I don't get the impression that they are well treated. I will say in general I really like this store. They have a lot of great items. It really good prices. I am disappointed to see some of the better items being replaced with a store brand called simple that does not have the same quality of previous items that were carried. Overall, though this is still a great place to get good prices on luxury items such as gourmet meats, cheeses, wine, sauces, and candies. I will wait and buy processed food items here rather than from more expensive grocery stores. The produce and the fresh meats are very mixed. I will buy things that are prepackaged or with preservatives or fruit, fruits and vegetable vegetables that look very fresh. Some items do have marked down stickers from other stores and for the most part that's great, but with things like unfrozen meats, I don't feel comfortable with that for everything else. I've never had any problems with the freshness or quality of anything in the store and I find tremendous bargains. I'm very happy with every time I go. The Customer Service is some of the worst in town, but I do think their staff work hard, but pass that attitude to customers. read more

Don't go hungry lol, they have plenty of very low priced items, especially snacks, quick ready to eat foods and even low priced quality pet food, vitamins, beauty and hygiene products and not to mention great finds, I've gotten heavy duty floor mats for $15 (same we're on Amazon for almost $100) bar stools for $9 each, fire pit for $19 and even an outdoor canopy for $48 (similar were running close to $200) its almost like a treasure hunt, yes you have to be mindful of expectation dates, however this is a great low price option. read more

I was just at your store. The lines were long. No one was calling for another checker. After standing in line about 15 minutes, the woman in front of me threw down her groceries and walked out. I should have done the same. The checker (I think his name was Miguel) saw this and decided to be passive aggressive, going even slower. He was striking up a conversation with the two women who were, checking out. He had to leave the register twice and was intentionally going slow -- more passive aggressive behavior. Then he wasn't charging the customer for extra bags. The woman was trying to give him money for the bags and he didn't take it. When she got teary-eyed, he had to stop and hug her for a while. All the while the line is building up. There were now many people in back of me. When it was finally my turn, I was visibly irritated but politely told him he should have called for an extra checker. Then tells me there are no extra checkers. When he is handing me my change, he forcefully pushes the receipt and change into my hand and says sarcastically, "you try to have a good day, OK?" and gives me a glaring look! I understand being empathetic towards customers. This was not the issue. It was his reaction to other customers being frustrated by the more than reasonable wait times. Rather than apologize for the long wait and be pleasant, he decided to be rude, sarcastic and teach everybody a lesson. I did not appreciate it. I do not think this is the type of employee you need to have. Maybe Miguel needs some training. read more

I love Grocery Outlet stores, but this one really could use a makeover. A lot of good prices on most items, some are a bit high. The ice cream section needs some new items, and the coffee creamer prices are just ridiculous...higher than SaveMart and Safeway; why? I don't know. There's a big selection of lots of other items, and the meats are excellent prices and quality. Wish I could give it 5 stars but it's not as clean as it should be, and some items are priced too high for this type of store. Cashier (possible manager) was made sexist remarks and violated HIPAA while ringing me up. The store was busy, I waited in line for a minute while the second cashier (Rodger) dealt with a return and was running between registers. He called me to his register and as I was unloading my cart he was calling an employee to the register over a headset. When they did not reply, he was talking very loudly across two registers to the other cashier and asked about the other employee. They disclosed that the employee being discussed had a doctor's appointment and were double checking if she had left yet. Once they confirmed that employee had left to her doctors appointment, Rodger became mad and begun complaining about the employee. Then Rodger looked at me with disgust and very pointedly said "Women!" I was in complete shock!! I am so sorry for these employees who have to work around an individual that makes their work place so hostile. Employees should not be talked about negatively for dealing with health needs. Women should be attacked for existing. I understand retail is stressful, but common respect is not a high bar, it's the bare minimum. I not only shop here for my home but also for a nonprofit to buy food for events and our resource center. However, I will not spend money at a store that supports this behavior and treatment of their employees. read more

Before I moved back to California, I would often shop Aldi for a daily groceries. They had good values in everyday things, along with some special items. Now, Grocery Outlet is my Aldi on the west coast. (Never mind that Aldi has stores on the way down south.) This is only the second Grocery Outlet location I've visited. I was looking for some great pistachios they had been carrying at the Manteca store. Naturally, it took a while to find the pistachios. In fact, I saw pretty much the whole store, and there is a lot. It seems more cramped than the Manteca location. I like that the chain has so much, but items seems to vary week to week, like Big Lots, so you might only find an item once. The lunch meats are good but there is an odd selection of cheeses. They have a good selection of frozen foods but as I mentioned, things change a lot. Oh, and I found the pistachios on the way out--by the register, where I entered the store. The cashier was friendly, even though she gave me an odd look when i entered through the door near the cash registers. read more

Insanely good prices, even on the fancy health food products. There is a huge parking lot, and the staff are quick, considerate, and helpful. Don't forget your reusable bags! I have noticed that some of the prices are pretty much the same as a big retailers. Also CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATES! And, don't be shy about reaching toward the back for products with better dates. The layout is also pretty smart. It's easy to follow, and you can go around the perimeter and mostly stick with the healthy options. read more

This is simply one of my favorite places to shop. Every time you come here it's like a treasure hunt so it forces you to go up and down every aisle. The absolute only reason why I rate this store a three star is because of one particular worker and her name is Melissa. By now everyone who knows me and knows my reviews they are primarily focused on customer service. There's never been one time where I have come into the store and Melissa is smiling. I mean she looks like the world is ending and she could care less. Maybe it's because the store is led by a youthful group who is only focused on the look of the store and not the quality of the service you get. Melissa stated that her manager's name was Anthony so this goes out to Anthony in particular. Please give a little bit more focus on training on your front end and having your Cashiers smile and greet your customers as they are walking into and exiting your store. And also please give a little focus on the appearance of your Cashiers. It looks like sometimes they rolled straight out of the bed, threw themselves into the dryer and came into the job. They carry the 120 k-cup boxes for an insanely low price, now this isn't Starbucks quality but hey, when you have a toddler and an infant at home you know that morning cup is so important. 3. This Grocery Outlet has a lot of different things from the other one. They have potted plants, a nice cheese selection, a clearance section which I didn't notice at the other one. One clearance is of packaged foods and the other is toys or home products. I also love that they sell Crystal products which are a local dairy because the Savemart across the street DOES NOT! I like that you can always go in and find something new but if you go and find something you LOVE always go back within the week and stock up because it might not be there when you go back. They don't take manufacturer coupons because everything is clearanced anyways, but every once in awhile they will have coupons on the bottom of their receipt to use for a week coming up. read more

This is a nice store with good prices. The shopping carts are big (that is a plus) the people are very friendly and the store is clean. My only problem is they sometimes sell open products. I bought some waffles there and when I got home. Both boxes were open. But! The waffles were package well and unopened. They share a parking lot with 4 major companies and sometimes you have to look for parking. Other then that, I really like the store and shop here at least twice a week. read more

THERE IS A ONE STAR RATING ONY BECAUSE A STAR IS REQIRED TO POST THIS REVIEW..I WOULD HAVE TO GIVE A -10...I was harassed in the store at the owner's request , wife of "Jason Lagon", several employees and by the owner herself Mrs. Lagon. I brought my service animal into the store as I regularly do. Not by law but out of courtesy I line the upper of the cart with a blanket and my small service animal was fully dressed and in no direct contact with the shopping cart. I was told by a employee that the owner said I needed to carry my animal. As a disabled person and as many other disabled persons that is not a possibility. I thought I was being courteous by lining my cart and not walking her through the store. I took pictures of the shopping cart which itself is filthy. After I told an employee that I was not able to carry my animal and it was not required by law. Shortly later the owner approached me when I told her she was embarrassing me she continued to harrass and asked me to tell her when I was leaving the store so she could take my cart into the back and have it cleaned. I was mortified she made me feel beneath and like one of the filthiest things that exist. I pointed out the cart was lying and she continue to have this conversation at the register she had employees waiting for me Whispering back and forth when a young man began to follow me to my car like I was a common criminal. I told him it was not acceptable , he said he was following instructions I threatened to call the police if he continued to follow me. I apologize to him as it is not his fault and he was following instructions . Several employees were put in an also awkward situation. As I sit in my car writing this reviewthis she had several employees keep coming in viewing to see if I was in my car still. She just followed an employee out and instructed him to grab the cart as if it were infected with the plague. The employee was very kind and apologized and asked me so you saw her follow me out and instruct me to do so. I am mortified. This is clearly a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
