Where are the DEALS??? Used to be my go-to store, the place I'd shop before going to Trader Joe's, Costco and Sprouts. The store is clean and the staff do a great job, but in recent months, I've noticed you pay as much if not more as regular stores. Also, many items ring up more than their marked price, so I've returned a few items in the last few months. Recently, I bought cat food marked .69, but was charged .99. I was in Richmond, so tried to return it to that store, but they wouldn't accept the return because they only charge .69 for it. Save your time and skip the Pinole store. Seems they specialize in lousy, low end food at premium prices. That being said, I have to say, the wine selection has improved lately. read more

I should have photographed my amazing hauls from here, but from delish products such as wicked kitchens vegan ice cream to Que pasa brand chips, Organic dog treats, unreal brand chocolate, Mi Rancho organic tortillas, Coffee cereal, and always a stocked "healthy" section this grocery outlet is my jam! As I live close by I like it and everyone is always nice, and kept clean. Of course I have had times when I could not get all "my list" but that's reality folks. I do a good amount of my grocery (about 50%) at this store. One must watch carefully the expiry dates of many items. Some items are weeks/days away from expiry dates (and occasionally a few items show already expired dates). Couple of days ago I bought brownish flakes cereal and in one of the servings I noticed sand while chewing. Similar situation occurred a while ago in a different brand flake cereal. Going to Grocery Outlets is like opening a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get. If you've been to a Grocery Outlet store, they are all similar in layouts and are very consistent. They are a discount grocery chain store that operates in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Pennsylvania. It was founded by James Read in San Francisco on June, 11, 1946 initially as Cannery Sales from 1946 - 1970, then Cannery Foods from 1970 - 1987. Their headquarters is in Emeryville, California, so it's pretty much a local chain that has spread all over the west coast. They may not sell the same items, which is understandable since some are discontinued items, but most are overstocked and closeout products. They really pass the savings on to the consumer. I've stocked up on beverages, especially canned coffee when they go on sale for 2 for $1. Simply cannot beat that price. But do keep in mind to check the dates since if they go 2 for $1, chances are they are about to expire. Sometimes you might get lucky and find Peet's coffee on sale for 99 cents a can. I love my Peet's and prefer Peet's than SB. If they don't have Peet's, they always have some other good brands on sale and I always have a few of 'em in my fridge. This location is right off the I-80 corridor along the Hilltop of Richmond and Pinole. It's on the same strip mall as In-N-Out, Best Buy and Target on Fitzgerald Drive that you can see on the freeway. I've shopped at this location several times and on my previous visit, I received great customer service from one of the stockers. I simply asked for a price check on an item and he stopped what he was doing and brought the item to the check-out counter to have one of the clerks scan the price for me. Grocery Outlet started out decades ago selling dented can products. it was a novel concept then. along the way, i stopped using can products so haven't gone to Grocery Outlet for decades. in the past few years, i discovered G.O. had a new business model-selling discontinued items, stock overage, or products with an nearby sell by date. i would drop by periodically not looking for any specific product, but seeing what "bargains" were available. bigger stores were better than smaller ones since they carry more products, showcase prices better, have more associates to stock the shelves. note: having a nearby "expiration/sell by" date doesn't indicate a product is expired or inedible, it just indicates peak freshness has passed. it still is edible. having a nearby expiration date didn't bother me. it meant pricing will be the cheapest. since i almost ate products quickly, the date(s) didn't matter. *each store individually owned/managed. inventories at stores not uniform. read more

Grocery Outlets are franchises so each store has its own uniqueness to them with respect to inventory. A store might carry more inventory in one category or different product offerings. So it can be a treasure hunt on each visit. Since I was in the Pinole Vista Shopping Center to pick up an online order at Michaels, I decided to stop by Grocery Outlet which was next door. I love the two cashiers in there! They were so helpful! This grocery outlet is always so clean. Always stocked well. The two cashiers that with their June 19 around 4:30 PM well just amazing. They were cheerful laughing and smiling through their mass of course. And just keeping everyone entertained while they rang us up I just love that about them. I have biscuits and it was buy one get one free so I was looking for my daughter to run back and get one. And couldn't find her and the cashier did it for me that's not her job she did not have to do that but I appreciate her so much and while she was doing at the other cashier was like you can never find children when you need them. And we laughBecause it was so true I could not find my child that is 21. I agree with Don D. about abusive workers in the store. My first and only visit to the store was an unfortunate stop. I had just left Target and forgot to purchase vegetables for dinner; so I quickly pulled into the Grocery outlet parking lot before getting on the freeway. I filled my cart w produce and reached for another item on a top shelf. When I could not reach it, I stepped on a conveniently-placed step ladder and got the item. As I stepped down, a formidable dark-haired, olive-skinned, middle-aged 5'8" Indian or middle eastern- ethnicity worker with a clipboard named Sarah yanked the ladder away and shrilled that I should have not used the ladder. (Note: The step stool did not have any wording as such on it.) She repeatedly yelled abusive and accusative language at me such as, "You KNOW not to do that! You KNEW what you were doing so you could sue the store!'' Mind you, I am a diminutive 5'1' in height, 100 lb, quite shy older asian woman and she towered over me while glaring, pointing and screaming. Then continued to snarl at me while I checked out. Why the narcissistic intimidation? To what end? Sarah, why the browbeating hostile confrontation? I was in Pinole to visit my daughter and her family and I was making dinner for them. I left the store feeling despondent and angry having been assaulted w aggressive untrue accusations. Be warned that Sarah is a wicked problem. read more

This is my favorite Grocery Outlet! It's far out of the way, but they have a decent wine section, some organic powders and such, and some other things. But what I love is that it's very clean and I don't want to feel like I have to take a shower once I leave. Many moons ago, I went to the Grocery Outlet on University and San Pablo because a friend talked about how great it was. I saw a box of Corn Flakes, with all of the text on the box written in Arabic, which wasn't a problem. Unfortunately, it was a loan box that had been jumped on or something and I left. I like cheap things, but this was insulting. I thought that they were selling goods that the couldn't sell to regular people. I did go to the store at the bottom of University, before it was knocked down, the store in Richmond and San Pablo. Richmond's store has a couple of cashiers who awful and rude. The San Pablo one is out of a lot of things and there's something odd about it, but I live nearby so I do go there occasionally. But the prices are different at the Richmond and San Pablo stores for some of the fresh produce. But this store in Pinole, is my new go-to store. When in the area, I do stop by. Actually, I like it as much as the store in Napa. Which is saying a lot. Wine country quality in Pinole? I'm all in. read more

Horrible customer service. I've never shopped here but it happened to be closeby Target so I figured I'd get a couple of things. Picked up a couple of boxes of croissant for my kids to snack on while we prepared dinner however upon opening the box and couple of bites in, we noticed mold. I told my kids to spit out what they could and toss the rest of what they ate in the trash and I took the remaining croissants back to to store. These are cheap $3.99 or something a box but I figured Grocery outlet should know about the mold. I get to the cashier with my receipt from earlier and tell him there's mold and that I was looking for a refund. Typically at any grocery store, they would apologize and thank you for returning the bad products sold, no questions asked. He instead immediately gets loud and defensive and tells me he's only refunding for one of them and not the other one since we've already eaten half of it. I'was like excuse me?? You think I drove all the way back to the store to scam you for a $3.99 box of croissant? His body language was very aggressive and I could tell at the brink of getting physical with me. He called his manager and calling me stupid for expecting a refund on a half box of croissant, the discussion was just getting ridiculous. he also has a foul mouth throwing f bombs left and right. My message for the owner, please check your cameras and see how your employee treats customers. This is unacceptable. At one point I was concerned about my safety, not because I was scared of him. Because my family was waiting for me in the parking lot and I was not sure if he could contain himself. I thought I was doing a favor by bringing in moldy food back so you would be aware of the old products you're selling, instead he (Jeffery I believe his name was) turns it into a very unpleasant experience. A $3.99 transaction does not have to be this complicated. There is no excuse for selling moldy food. Apparently, this is not a one off. They said 3-4 other customers also returned the same croissants earlier so clearly this is a problem. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen should someone get sick. Customers : Please check especially your bakery items for mold. if one croissant has mold, you need to assume the others have mold too, they are not safe to eat. Mold is invisible as well so if one croissant in the box has mold there is high likelihood the others have it too. This is the longest review I've ever written because I feel strongly about how I was treated. It was absolutely pathetic! read more

I am a lover of GO's! I always try & visit new stores in different cities when I can. I go to this one like twice a year after I go to the dentist which is across the bridge from where I live. I recently visited this one 4 days ago and what a great shopping experience I had! The store was so clean, organized and well stocked! Great prices and selection. The cheese bar is aplenty and so much variety. The produce was fresh & well stocked. The lines were very short the clerks were nice. read more

Im lucky enough to live near two of these stores. This one has gotten better and better as ive been going to it for 5 years. Ive found several vegetarian items that they stock until they cant anymore. Good quality microwave foods for cheap! You have to determine your favorite items by shopping closely. And their milk lasts longer than Targets, and they have Ultra Pasteurized which last very long. Works for me as well as El Cerrito location! read more

The prices are pretty good compared to a regular grocery store just a little smaller & you do have to check the expiration dates on the items before you go crazy & buy a bunch of stuff. just went to this grocery outlet, we're always there and we like going there however today we had a horrible encounter with one of the cashiers, Linda, a white old racist lady. She had a horrible attitude towards us from the beginning until the end; talking rudely, throwing the bag towards us, absolutely horrible. As we were leaving, one of us stayed and paid while the other of us was about to walk out. As this happened, she proceeded to yell at us that we cannot leave until everything is paid for, as if we were stealing? Then proceeded to tell us we were being too "hot-headed". literally crazy. read more

I've been shopping at this location for over 5 years, and I really love this store. The store is clean and well organized. They always have items that I need for a lot lower prices you will find at Sprouts or other grocery stores. They have organic and gluten free which are most of the items I shop for. The customer service is on point for the most part. There are a few cashiers that are helpful and super friendly and you could tell they enjoy working there. There are a few that are not that friendly so I avoid their lines when I am checking out. My biggest gripe about this store are the dirty and filthy shopping carts. I wish the owners would purchase some new shopping carts. If I'm purchasing a few items I just put them in my shopping bag and bring them to the register. Most times I'm purchasing quite a few items and I am forced to use their dirty carts. I might stop shopping there if they do not get some new carts. Other than this, it's a great store and I highly recommend it. read more

Great prices, but everything I purchased has some kind of defective issue with it, except surprisingly the raw chicken and oat milk. The same peanut butter I bought elsewhere tastes different, the same protein powder tastes sour, the liquid soap smells like nuclear waste, just as examples. I love Grocery Outlet but absolutely detest this location. Their inventory isn't properly managed, they didn't enforce masking or social distancing during the pandemic, and their checkers are rude (one today complained that I bought too many bunches of parsley because she was too lazy to count them to ring them up - I had interrupted her chit chat with another store clerk by having the audacity of wanting to pay for my groceries and leave). Only reason I shop this location is proximity to my house - but when I'm doing a large shop, I take my business across the bridge and pay the toll to Vallejo to avoid shopping here. It has been a while since I posted my Grocery Outlet, Pinole, review so here's an update. My family and I have decided to give it another try and start shopping here again to see if anything has changed. Great news! After shopping here for the past several months on a regular basis....like couple times a month, we have not had any other issues. Clean, well-stocked, friendly cashiers for the most part, and of course, good deals...you just have to be very selective and be mindful of the "expiration/best by dates." So far, so good! read more

Like Joanna L., I too have never been to a Grocery Outlet. I only came here because my mom asked me to buy something she saw in an ad. The store was very clean and organized and the shelves were fully stocked. Hopefully this is always the case and not only because this store is still fairly new. I found said item near the entrance but decided to peruse the aisles to see what the store offers. To my surprise, they have brand name items, some at a very good deal. I saw a squeeze bottle of Best Foods Light Mayo, which I use at home, and saw it was only 99¢. I thought it was too good of a deal so, of course, I investigate. My finding was that it expired on 9/5/10...UGHHHH!! I admit, I did buy a couple of items but I first checked the expiration date. I bought a 4-pack of Izze sparkling juice which I found out at a past YEE, goes very well with vodka. Overall, I found quite a bit of items with expired or near expired dates. So please remember to check if you do happen to shop here!! Although this is not my choice of grocery stores, I probably would've given the place (at most) 2 more stars because if you're looking for a bargain, this store offers cheap deals and is very well kept. I just can't get over the fact they sell expired goods...makes me wonder what else they're doing to make a buck. I love shopping here!!!! I try to go at least twice a month if not more to check out specials that the run or to find awesome bargains. I mainly go here for the DOG AISLE!!!...What I have bought so far that keeps me coming back for more bargains are: Beggin Strips - Large bag i think its 2 pounds or so (originally $15- $20) at Petsmart or Target but only $4.99 here. I think they raised the price though to $6.99 now.. I bought 4 bags at the time of sale. Natures Choice Training Treats - Two for $1.00!!!! I usually buy these at Petsmart for $2.49 a bottle and the expiration is August 2012. I often use these to train my dogs. Busy Bone Granola (pack of 10) - $6.99 for Jumbo Bag - Typically $3.99 - $5.00 for two bones at Target or Petsmart They have Amazing deals!!! I would like to ask that you train your cashiers not to be so racist, I am a Latino woman with kids who has been going this location quite a few times. And a couple of your cashiers have ask me if I am paying with food stamps. And just me I see other white costumers and no questions ask on the contrary they're really nice with them. I don't qualify for food stamps just for your information. But if did it or someone else is they have no right to make people feel bad about it nor every black or Latino it's on food stamps. Yesterday, 12/16/21 I decided I was cooking shrimp tacos I only had to get 2 items from this store but I also had to use the restroom. I go in & ask if there was one available ( BEFORE I DID ANY SHOPPING ),they allowed me to use it. When I'm coming out there's a employee coming in. So, I get everything I need & standing in line. The employee and manager walk up to me & ask if I put a AIR SCENT in the toilet...... Idk if sis thought I was a kid or what but I'm like huh, a air scent? I only came in to use the restroom & get my 2 items. She was like, well you just used the restroom.... I'm like yes, but I didn't put no air scent in a fucking toilet, I bought what I needed & left cause sis was finna get slapped. We come into this store regularly and far too often we don't see the prices marked on all items. Also, disappointed that they no longer carry Old Home multi-grain bread. Pleasant Hill GO is the best managed of all in the Bay Area, and they carry a lot better selection of wines. read more

I have shopped at the Richmond and San Pablo locations and this is definitely the better of the three. I come here a few times a month and I rarely walk out with less than a shopping cart full of good finds. There are some items you will find on a regular basis (my go-tos are the Cheetos, $1.99 six pack sodas and 4/$1 bananas), and then there's always those items you are shocked to find at such a low price (just make sure you check expiration dates and don't neglect the ice cream selection). The employees here are always friendly and helpful, either that or they're sick of seeing me there and just want me to go away already. I've had some good luck with the meat they sell here, and as long as you know how to pick your produce you'll never find a better deal! Don't sleep on the non-edible items either, I've saved money on home decor, toys and toiletries here as well. read more

Before I moved I always shopped at the concord location & I was unsure about this location. I needed to grab some quick things and I decided to give this place a try. I went on a Thursday around 4pm. I assume it was going to be busy, but it actually was super empty - including the parking lot. The store was HUGE! Bigger than I expected. It almost looked like a mini food max. They had a good selection of everything & of course at awesome prices. I was so happy that it was empty! Had to shop for anything when crowds of people are around. Everything seemed to be organized and they had a lot of clearance items. This location also has a lot more household items & beauty items - which is awesome! Very clean and organized - what more can you ask for. The employees were also really nice and greeted me - which is always nice. Definitely recommend going to this location! read more
