For saying they treat fear aggressive dogs well, they did not even give my dog a chance. My dog is a rescue, he has had some poor experiences at groomers, but when we lived in Vegas they never had an issue using a muzzle and getting a full groom. Here, we dropped him off and they returned him within 5 minutes. It was almost like they didn't even try. He was partially wet. I'm upset because their website is advertised as specializing in this kind of experience that makes dogs comfortable. And they treated my dog far from that. read more

I just picked up my 3lb dog from this establishment. I had asked for a bath and blow dry as she didn't need to be trimmed. The cost for this service was $80 + tip. I know she is challenging to groom because she is small and scared, so I'm willing to pay a bit more for grooming. But a bath for $92? That's just ridiculous. I recently moved to this neighborhood and wanted to support the local businesses. My dog has been to this groomer 3-4 times now, and the combination of the pricing and quality just isn't worth it. Since our dog had developed a fear of "grooming tables", our breeder recommended a "fear-free" groomer - which is something I had never heard of. I looked up fear-free certified groomers, and came upon Grooming Arts Northwest. They were able to get us in within 2 weeks for our first appointment, talked me through each step and how they go through the time and effort to make sure the dog is comfortable before moving on to each step of the grooming process. They told me that my dog may not get a "full groom" depending upon how comfortable she was with the process, and asked me lots of questions about how she behaves when she's scared. They booked her a 4 hour time slot. Somehow they got her through the whole grooming process, without actually getting her on the table - apparently "she said that was a hard no". When I picked her up she was deshedded, groomed and blown out and her nails were trimmed and filed. She was beautiful, and was happy and definitely not afraid. I can't say enough about this place, and yes, although the price is much more than other groomers, you can feel confident your pup will be in good, quality, caring hands throughout the whole process. read more

Grooming Arts NW is what every groomer should strive to be. I have a little Maltese with severe separation anxiety, I've even had her start shaking as soon as we walked into other grooming shops, but she does great when I drop her off here. The low stress environment makes such a difference and I feel good knowing she isn't being overwhelmed by the noise of tons of dogs in kennels waiting their turn. Stephanie is our groomer and she is a true artist. She is the only groomer I've found in Portland who is trained in Asian Fusion grooming and has done a fantastic job with every cut. Getting it right definitely takes a lot of technical skill and she really has it! We were so lucky to have found her. When I pick her up she always looks gorgeous! I also love whatever shampoo they use, it leaves a very nice but gentle scent, nothing overwhelming or too perfumey. It costs a little more than some of the other shops but they are 100% worth it, not just for the amazing cut but also for the peace of mind knowing my dog is having a great experience. I love my dog more than anything, and would do whatever I can to ensure he is well cared for. I feel privileged that I can afford to spend more money on a groomer- as this place is more expensive than any other I've taken my dog to. However, I want to say that the care and quality of this groomer is beyond anything I've ever experienced. The environment is calm and containing. The owner/ groomer I spoke with, who's name is Karu, is honest, caring, skilled and grounded. My dog was attended to the entire time he was there, and was not left in a kennel at any point. The dogs are separated by room, and get individual attention. My dog came back looking better than ever! He has the cutest haircut he has had in years, and is completely and totally de-matted. He is calm and happy, and seemed relaxed and well when I picked him up. And because he's a doodle expert, he's been a huge help with sharing some of the finer points of doodle coat maintenance, especially since we've got a curly and a straight pup. Everyone remarks about how soft our dogs are. Some of that is nature, the rest is Karu. He's pricier than most groomers but the difference shows. Ok it took over two years but I am thrilled to say we have finally found an amazing groomer to make our beautiful fur baby look her best. I cannot understand why it has taken so long to find a groomer who understands a teddy bear cut for a doodle, who doesn't crate the dogs while waiting and who listens to us explain exactly how we want her to look. We have been through four different groomers in Portland. A few others we walked in and hated the smell and vine and walked right out. Dandy doodle is in high demand. We were on a wait list for some time and when it cleared, we could not wait to get out baby in there. It's not cheap but you know what? I don't care. I will pay for a good groom. Soo did a wonderful job and was pretty quick about it, 2 hours more or less for a 36 pound fussy and diva like aussiedoodle. She came out looking and smelling amazing. I need to leave a review. I have a 27 lb labradoodle and these guys did the best grooming cooper has ever had. I mean, truly, no lie, no exaggeration. 1) they dematted him thoroughly, where I now realize previously this was only partially being done. 2) Cooper was afraid of grooming, but his fear lessened after one visit! 3) artistic, spectacular cut. From the rear angling, tail shaping, proportion of fur length of body and legs, and the shaping of his head, ears and face is awesome. my boy gets loads of compliments about his cut 4) the groomers are really kind, gentle with your dog, and pleasant people. I had to move out of Portland, (lost my job from prolonged illness) and I wish I could bring these guys with me. One of my most memorable and favorite about portland? - canine comfort grooming! Karu did a great job! This was my 5 month old Standard Poodle/Old English Sheepdog Malort's first puppy cut. He looks so fluffy and smells so good. I was a little nervous how he would do at his first groom, but as soon as we walked in I could tell he instantly felt comfortable being here. This place has so much potential but they are out to SCAM you of your money. I've been taking my dog here over the last year no problem UNTIL today. Prior to the appointment I made sure to go through every strand of my dogs fur to get out every knot every mat, I scanned him from hear to toe, cleared. When arriving the groomer checks him and says he looks clear of mats so I left my dog to be groomed...purrfect. WRONG! They messaged me during the process and say there's MATTING which will cost an extra $60!!! Absolutely NO WAY there was any matting. I asked for pictures which they did not provide. When I arrived again to pick up my dog the owner rang me up and I asked about the matting. All of a sudden now he saying there wasn't any matting but we are charging you a $30 extra hair fee. Sure whatever...And based price is $155 so total $185. FLABBERGASTED, I asked if there was a price increase because before I was paying $135 base cut price. He tells me the Asian Fushion cut I wanted is more expensive. BUT ITS THE SAME GODDAMN CUT IVE GOTTEN MY DOG SINCE IVE BROUGHT MY DOG HERE... Then he goes to check my history at their store and and "oh looks like on ur file it says the it looks like it's been 10 weeks since the last app so base price for over 6 weeks will be $185 "..... I'm an truly appalled. Now he's literally talking out of his ass because before I would pay 135 base (passed 6 period and $60 for "matting") and now after saying the base is $155, now it's suddenly $185 if it's passed 6 weeks? SCAM!! THE OWNER IS TRYING TO TAKE YOUR MONEY. Now I'm question if my dog was even matted in the last appointments which I kept paying additional cost for. DONT GO HERE! But if you do make sure they send you PROOF of whatever they are trying to charge you for. It's hard to give an exact price when it comes to grooming, I get it. But to jump around from $135 to $155 to $185 plus $60 matting plus $30 extra hair, just seems ridiculous to me. read more

Karu is incredible. We've taken our golden doodle, Coda, to 5 different groomers in town and Karu is far and away the best. He had specific questions for us about how we wanted our dog to be groomed, and he followed through exactly as we discussed. Plus the workmanship was unparalleled. What's more, the place is very relaxed and my dog was totally calm when we brought him in and picked him up - probably due to the relative quietness and peace of the facility compared to everywhere else. Karu is very relaxed and good with the dogs (I saw another one there when I picked up Coda, and he was also totally happy and chill while getting groomed). The Dandy Doodle did an excellent job giving my 12 year old Bichon Frise a classic haircut for her breed. He listened carefully to what I wanted as I had a few tweaks to be made to the haircut. Karu is amazing! We have a high strung doodle that struggles with being in chaotic settings (loud noises, etc.), and we have had problems with her being stuck at the groomers for hours longer than anticipated. On top of all that, we have never been impressed with the results (after trying four groomers in Portland). Karu is so efficient and our doodle has never looked cuter! I'm sure that she is relieved to only be at the groomer for 90 mins instead of 4 hours (or more). Karu is also the most informative and knowledgeable groomer I've worked with.
