This waste disposal company is the typical example of big business' not only over pricing service, but "auto renewing" service contracts to keep you hooked. Their corporate contracts they demand you sign up (or no service), are designed to keep the customer on the hook for years with "penalties for early termination" and more hidden in fine print. Terrible policies! I've been in business for many years & understand profit motive, & reasonable service contracts, etc. but this company has one of the most one-sided business plans I have ever seen. To me it's not just about the over charging, (even though other service companies are half the cost), It should be against the law to design a service contract to entrap a customer for years for anything like Groot is doing. Yes they are loosing customers (as they should), but how long are will they be allowed to keep this poor business practice? Lawmakers need to address these "fine print keep you hooked" practices. a 1-year only contract should be the ONLY service contract for waste disposal! NO "auto renew" clause required! That's not fair to any consumers. I will advise our State Atty General's Consumer Fraud division and pursue it as far as possible. It's unfair practice in my opinion. Period. read more

Horrible. My city dumped waste management for these worthless jerks. They didn't pick up my yard waste and four reps later keep telling me "Next week for sure." Now they are trying to claim it is all my fault their divers never came down my block. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

I recently cancelled my contract with Groot, which was VERY difficult. they insist you do it in writing within 90 days, but not more than 180 days of renewal, which is AUTO renewed if you pay your bill. I was CHARGED a dumpster removal fee to remove EMPTY dumpster as well as an energy/environmental fee to remove the empty dumpster. this company is over-priced. Ifound a competitor for one third their fees with NO contract. I will not recommend them . read more

Round Lake recently changed to use Groot services... ive been living here for over 10yrs and we had Waste Management. These Groot people arent very good at their jobs. I witness all the time they arent very efficient picking up garbage from my neighborhood... and God forbid you have a mattress to be picked up, they are so lazy and leave it behind... then we are stuck with a mattress in our front yard until we have to call and complain about it. Where is management and who supervises these truckers? Round Lake township should really take a closer look at the residents'a complaints about Groot and the services they barely provide. read more

Horrible company. Garbage people are rude and do nothing but write notices why they can't take the garbage. Trying to figure out why the dimwits who run Round lake decided to switch to this company. Right after we put out out garbage I was informed they won't take any extra bags of garbage!!??? What??? I've been doing that for years! Terrible, we are located in round lake beach IL and they have not picked up garbage since our village switched from WM to Groot. They have not sent a bill to myself and surrounding neighbours and we have had garbage pile up for WEEKS, and I mean weeks. Very disappointed with there customer service call about dumpster not being picked up while away on business for several months, and discovered our van was not emptied on the last pickup, leading me to believe they neglected to collect it assuming it was empty. So there answer was the they could not track there units with GPS older then 30 days, so I then proceeded try and make contact with a supervisor for the last two weeks and no one has returned several of my calls. i had received a mailing from groot informing me of the new service i will be forced to use, namely groot industries...in this mailing it states "a 10% senior discount for residents 65 yrs & older is available upon request. please send proof of age & residency to lakecounty@groot.com" well, well i went there and nowhere is there options for such request. i did get a virtual response, which asked for zip code, yep you guessed it, "no, we do not offer senior discounts at this time" what the ???? can see this is NOT going to be a good change...... read more

Very disappointed in customer service and billing. I called at the beginning of the year and also emailed customer service with price comparison info noting they were higher​​ than their competitor. They said they would match the competitor. When I received​​ my bill it was not matched. They said no worries it will be adjusted on your next bill. It was not adjusted on my next bill and when I called I was told they would adjust it now but could not prorate because I requested it too late. I explained I had been emailing and calling since the beginning of the year and they claim they have no way of prorating. Very deceiving and frustrating after several calls. read more

Six years of commercial dumpster service and only missed my pickup once. The driver actually knocked on my office door last week and asked us to move our car so he could pull the dumpster out to his truck, which he does very time. Easy to contact by phone and everyone I have dealt with has been fair and friendly. I am very happy with their service. read more
