Ground Burger Bar has great food and excellent service. We went there fir lunch on the weekend. While waiting for the restaurant to open, my husband got stung by a wasp on his finger. When we got into the restaurant, we asked the bartender for ice for his sting . Our waiter, Craig, asked if he needed aspirin or any pain medication or a shot! My husband didn't need any of that but appreciated the offer. We enjoyed a great lunch and during our visit, the ice melted and the bartender happily replaced it. I had the Al Capone grilled chicken sandwich and it was so yummy! My husband had the Mac burger (think Big Mac without the sub-par ingredients) and it was also amazing!!! I sometimes wonder how many burgers I've eaten over the years. Let's take a guess and say it's a burger a week for the last 50 years. That's 2600 burgers so no stretch to say I'm somewhat of a burger expert. I'm also from the US so I'm accustomed to getting my burgers cooked to my liking, something that's a bit rare (pun intended) for a burger in Canada. GBB grinds their own beef and can cook it up anyway you want. It's very tasty beef topped with any number of crazy toppings. Deep fried Brie anyone? And a long list of buns: pretzel, potato, you name it they have it! I've eaten at the bar quite a few times and it's great to chat up the staff and sample some local craft beers. This most recent visit was a spectacular Sunday afternoon and I chose the patio under the umbrellas by a stream. Super cool ambiance: When you're here, skip the regular fries and indulge in the sweet potato wedges. That's not really my thing but they are shockingly good. YUM! The funny thing is, during COVID19, many of these restaurants nearby have limited their menu and seating. So we had walked around and sat at two other spots along the main street, only to find nothing we wanted to eat was on the menu. Attracted by the sounds of splashing and fun, we wandered down to find this place was open and bustling in the patio! We were quickly seated and served. I ordered fried pickles which were so good. They hit the spot. Not too bready, not too wet. My boyfriend got the chicken burger which reminds me a bit of the one I had in Miami a few years ago. It was SO yummy and there was a good kick to it with those pickled jalapeños. I ended up ordering the lamb burger which I thought was just heaven. Perfectly cooked, moist (sorry had to say it), saucy, with all the right savoury, sweet, cheesy goodness that I like. And I do not usually like burgers. I ordered their garden salad which is your usual looking greens but they add cucumbers, radish, tomatoes, and chickpeas. I thought it was really quite refreshing. My boyfriend got the sweet potato fries which were also really good. Well seasoned and a decent portion of everything. We actually got rained on pretty hard, but luckily those umbrellas held up. The poor staff had to run around in the rain to serve all the tables since no one can sit inside yet. I felt so bad for them :( They were really positive and cheerful though and just made light of what could have been a miserable night. Burgers were very good. We were very skeptical of the pineapple in the burger, but it was delicious. Despite how delicious the burgers were, I felt the curly fries were a bit of a letdown as it was not very curly. The service was scarce as they focused more on the patrons on the patio than indoors. I visited on Valentine's Day which fell on a Friday this year. Was surprised by how many people were here on a weekday for lunch! I also think there was a mini party going on in the far side of the restaurant but my guest and I were seated closer to the entrance area. My guest ordered the BEYOND THE HILLS which they mistakenly didn't know know a beyond meat party. Needless to say, they didn't realize! So I think they did a good job with that. For myself, I ordered the FRENCH ONION MAC N' CHEESE which was very filling due to its creaminess! There was about 3 cups of this good stuff served on a hot skillet. I also ordered their CRAZY SHAKE, in the OREO flavor. This was heavenly! There was just enough Oreo blended into the beverage to make it the perfect consistency. I also love a good ice cream sandwich so the one topping the drink was tasty and made the drink look epic! Of note, and I mentioned this in a previously review, you actually pay HST on the 18% automatic gratuity for the group. I love a good meaty burger so I was looking forward to trying this place while attending the Newmarket Music Festival. It's a very charming and rustic place, with lots of exposed brick and aged wood creating a nice ambiance. It looks like they have a patio on the side but it was closed due to the weather. With lots of taps and cocktails to choose from, we started with mojitos, a classic for me and strawberry for my friend. It was okay but could have used a half a squirt more of simple syrup for my taste. I ordered the GBB Burger (Beef patty, New York red onion sauce, miso mustard, old cheddar) on multigrain bun and my friend customized her burger from the Build-a-Burger menu. It was a good burger, juicy with good flavour, and the fries were crispy. As much as I liked it though, my friend's custom burger looked so good. I may have to go that route next time. I decided to try the OG Chicken burger with a brioche bun, hot sauce, honey, coleslaw and jalapeños. I opted for a side of fries for $17.99. Portion wise the sandwich was huge with three thick slices of chicken. The taste was good but nothing spectacular. I've had better chicken sandwiches. The chicken wasn't crispy and I could hardly taste the hot sauce or honey sauce. I believe the coleslaw overpowered the rest of the sandwich. I must say the burger and brioche bun was great but that chicken sandwich had the perfect amount of spice and was fried to perfection! Went here for a Friday lunch around 12:30 with a coworker. For some reason one of the lots nearby was closed but normally parking is pretty spacious. Got seats right away, and service was attentive, checking on us multiple times throughout the meal. Was thinking about ordering the Yelp promotion burger (with the fudge, chips and sprinkles), but figured I would try one of the more "signature" items for a first visit. Ended up getting the Black and Blue on the brioche bun (+ fries). Was done medium well as ordered and the flavor of the chipotle stood out to me. Fries was good and not too salty. A real welcome relief, they don't have a hundred seats squashed in next to each other so you don't end up practically sharing a meal with the strangers sitting on either side of you. They have bench seats, tables, booths and a pretty sweet patio. Food: Fantastic. The menu changes often but the faves stay or get tweeted slightly. I like that, it keeps it exciting. The burgers are great. Juicy, well cooked. Fresh buns and toppings. Glad it's in Newmarket and not Toronto, you can still walk in and get a seat most times with little or no wait. If this place was in Toronto or Markham, you'd need a reservation or have the 1 hour + waits! They have this garlic bread appetiser that's making me salivate just thinking about it. Warm and buttery. If your follow Ground Burger on IG, you are well acquainted with the weekend / limited edition burger creations. I had a chance to try this weekends treat, the EL FUEGO; what a tasty treat. There are a hundred reviews for GB, so honestly what more is there to say about the service, the atmosphere, the concept. So today will dwell on the EL FUEGO - I know, sadly the burger will be gone by the time you read this however - the great thing about GB is that the kitchen finds some creative edition to the menu almost every week. The EL FUEG: This burger is served on Groundburgers locally sourced beef patty and mounds of spiced maple candy bacon, fire roasted red pepper aioli, scotch bonnet mango salsa, jalapeño havarti, L.O.P. Before biting in I was a bit worried that the candied bacon may have been too much of a contrast with soothing heat of this burger however, it was the perfect balance. The salsa paired equally as well as did the brioche bun - soft and fresh. For my sides, and yes they both qualify as sides in my book as they need to go well with the burger, we're fries and a vanilla shake (hold the whipped cream). From past experiences, I knew the shake is small for the price ($6 for a mason jar) however, had to give it another test. Milkshake Reaction: tasty, just the right consistency - however GB could win if they served what was left in the blender as a top up and balance the price a little. My fries -- equally as tasty with a nice spice, however I did feel as if I had the trainings of the batch as there were more crispy ends then fries. Not that tasty crispy bits of French fries are bad -- actually totally the opposite, however, too much of anything good and well..... Pretty good bar food and not too expensive. This is a very casual dining experience. I'm not a huge burger fan but the others in our party really enjoyed their choices. To me, they had way too much stuffed into that big ol bun. But hey, that's what makes it good to the burger lovers, right? I had a wasabi steak sandwich called the Hattori Hanzo. Good name. Given Ground Burger Bar's star-studded reviews, I expected a lot more...especially seeing as how they were very busy. The restaurant was bustling with orders! Ours took an hour to prepare. The Black & Blue was so dry that it actually hurt to swallow in spite of all the aioli and salsa they slicked on. I asked for no onions, but they still included them in the burger. The OG Chick was better, but certainly nothing outstanding. The fries were not seasoned at all and were very akin to freezer fries - chalky and flavourless. The onion rings were the least disappointing from everything we ordered, but you're essentially paying one dollar per onion ring given the portion size. They did, however, have a nice crunchy exterior and the caper aioli wasn't too bad either. The fact that this burger joint was crowned Top 20 Best Burgers in Canada AND Best Burger in York Region for four years straight set some very high expectations, but I was quite disappointed with the outcome of my visit. There are definitely better burger places you can find in the area at a cheaper price. Overall, not a very satisfying experience and will not be revisiting or recommending to others. read more

One of my co workers suggested the 6 of us to go after work from thornhill to newmarket for 'the best burger, its sooo good' Lol So we got there. Small ish place. A number of literal white kids working with no boss around, zero care in the world for customer service. Told us they didnt know when the tables would be done so its a half hour min wait .. we decided to suggest to THEM we sit at the bar and eat & they move us when the table clears up. (The table cleared up, never moved us , said it was reserved after the guests left. Cool lol np) Ordered corn , decent Black & blue burger, quite good . Id get it again Didnt quite taste much blue cheese anywhere but nonetheless good. The girl who served us was pretty nice , ill give her credit there. & the girl who was bringing out our food was a doll. My friend asked another one of the girls for something and she full out responded with an attitude as if we're bothering her .. service was very slow all together . They barely even look at you so u have to fish for their attention I work at a bar where customer service is what we're known for , and we're strict on , So coming to a place with a bunch of 16 yr olds giving u attitude or not attending to you is quite irritating and unacceptable to me. this is such a cute little place! the servers are friendly and the food is delicious. my go to sandwich is the "mary had a little lamb". a delicious lamb burger, goat cheese, arugula and a sweet pepper sauce. the burger is cooked to your liking (always the sign of a good burger). the gravy is a dark, au jus type but so delicious! you can't go wrong with any of the burgers really! and let's not forget... the flaming hot mozzarella sticks!! yum! comes in an order of 6. I did find the curly fries too salty (probably from the Cajun salt) but otherwise really no complaints. decor is pretty rustic so the chairs are either benches or those metal ones so not a place to linger post meal. highly recommend for a quick bite though! read more
