A staple in west Scarborough, my family has been grabbing takeout since I was a kid. It's a no frills diner type eats including burgers, fries, steak sandwiches, onion rings, and shakes amongst some other diner type food classics. Through the years they have faced redevelopment but are still going with their bright orange sign. As mentioned it's a takeout spot with some seating outside, great for a warm summer day. The place is open late and hits the spot when you're hungry for straight up charbroiled goodies. The staff are nice and always helpful. My go to is the steak on a Kaiser with all the fixings including friend onions, pickles, mayo and ketchup. Portions have always been generous though I haven't been in a while. This is easily the best burger place I've ever been to. I've been ordering the same meal since I was a child, a classic cheeseburger with pickles and mayonnaise and it has never disappointed. The consistency and flavour are what keep me coming back. While the fries are decent, I would highly recommend choosing the onion rings instead, as they are far better and complement the burgers perfectly. This is a Toronto staple. Busy at all times, food always hits the spot. Price has gone up over time, but is still fairly priced. Staff are friendly, but also love quick, so be ready to order. This is a grab and go spot, nowhere to sit and eat unless you drove. There is plenty of parking to sit and eat in the car. read more

There's a reason why they have been around for 50 years and have a slogan of being around for 50+ more. Affordable (even with inflation) they really care about keeping their costs low, despite that it's worth it no matter the cost. The size is even impressive. If you're a vegetarian, sadly this isn't the place for you. They only take cash. There is an ATM inside in case you need. No where to sit (it's small inside) but they have some spots outside for you to enjoy. More of a grab and go place. Very limited menu, that means you get what you need and you get it FAST. read more

My boy and I got the banquet burgz with a poutine on the side. 10/10 burgers. I only have this once in a while as a treat but damn oh damn. My burgz had all the fixings the way I like it. They changed the meat , I think to not raise the price but oh my God it's rubber I'm not sure how people can eat that has after taste too , before it was juicy now you can replace your tires with the meat , only the poutine is perfect , and they leave the meat outside to melt read more

Let me start off by saying that the food here is simply amazing. The service was great, lines were short and the ambiance was cozy and knowing it used to be a drive-through theatre helps that even more. Food: I ordered a cheeseburger with pickles, ketchup and mustard. The portions are great, especially compared to a chain restaurant. The patties are flavourful and they are almost the same size as the bun, which is incredible for the price. These burgers are on the cheaper side for restaurants now, and you get way more than you paid for here. The fries are also amazing. Service: The service was fast and friendly, with my order being taken in around 40 seconds and receiving the food around two minutes later. We decided to return here for another lunch as it's cheap and filling. It was definitely much busier this time yet the place had barely opened. Service: Quick, friendly and efficient. Despite the long line, it moves fairly quickly. Food: Regular hamburger - I realized quickly that I should have gotten the banquet. The bun itself is huge but the patty inside is quite a bit smaller and thin. I don't think I got the nice char as last time as maybe they were trying to get through the long line. The toppings were fresh and plentiful which was nice. Unfortunately, I feel like there's a whole bite around the bun that is just bread before you get the meat. Hence, I really recommend just upgrading to the banquet. Chicken burger - I have the same bun and meat ratio problem with this one too. The chicken is nice and crispy but super thin as well. Fries and onion rings - pretty good but nothing super exciting. It's not super greasy which I really appreciated. Price: Johnny's is well known for keeping those prices low. You do get a lower quality patty though in my opinion so it's a fair trade off. Still very filling for what you pay for! read more

You get a good old school burger experience at this joint, and it's pretty cheap too. The banquet burger was great - it has a great char broiled taste & is a decent size. The quality of the patty is OK - it's a bit bouncy since it's frozen. The bacon & cheese are good. While there's no lettuce (?!) you do get 2 types of onions - raw and marinated (the latter are supposedly fried but the texture is more like they're marinated: firm and crunchy)  The vanilla milkshake is thick enough & very tasty. Finally made it to Johnny's despite I grew up in the neighbourhood. This place has been in the neighbourhood for 50+ years and still going. My girlfriend and I came here on a Saturday around 8 pm for a somewhat late dinner. This place is packed! I counted there were about 20 people waiting. However they are fast. I ordered a cheeseburger with extra patty and rings. My girlfriend ordered a banquet burger + poutine. After a short wait, we gotten our food. When I brought the food home, my burger was still hot and the cheese was oozing. After my first bite, I was like... Mmmmmmmmmm! First things first....this is not a health food place and it will destroy whatever diet you are on! It's not healthy food, but it's sooooo good! This place is a hidden gem if you want cheap delicious burger. The burgers are reasonable priced for a large portion. Their patties are super tender and quite thick, making it very flavourful. You get to pick your own toppings: pickles, diced onions, cooked onions, tomato, relish, ketchup and mustard. In addition, their combos are very affordable. This is a long standing burger that I first visited in my childhood. Prices here are fantastic considering the general cost of food today. They have a small standup counter you can eat at or you can sit on the window ledge. They also have 2 picnic tables outside. Staff are very friendly and do a great job. I ordered a banquet burger and fries. The bun is oversized and good quality, but unfortunately it's the best part of the burger. The burger patty is relatively dry, compared to other places. They offer the classic toppings (and sauteed onions) but no lettuce (they never have). Fries are very average. I think in the case of Johnny's you get what you pay for. Look, Johnny's Hamburgers serves a bad hamburger. That's not even in dispute. You didn't even need the rise of top-notch burger joints like Holy Chuck and The Burger's Priest to figure that one out. And yet I'm still recommending the place. The tiny restaurant doesn't seem to have changed one iota in the decades since it opens, and there's certainly no denying that's a big part of its charm. The nostalgia factor plays a huge, instrumental role in its ongoing success. I ordered their Banquet Burger and asked for all the toppings, and it was fine. It's basically like a Harvey's burger but worse. The patty doesn't really have any distinguishable flavor, and there isn't, at least when I went, even a hint of charbroiled goodness to latch onto. The condiments are all fine and the bun, though too big, is actually a highlight. I also got the fries and onion rings, and they too get the job done without even coming close to blowing you away. I haven't been back here for about 10 years and today was when the stars happened to align. Johnny's Hamburgers has been located here on Victoria Park Ave south of Finch Ave since 1967. The burgers are cooked charcoal-broiled styled and you get to choose your toppings. Other main items include hot dogs, Steak on a Kaiser, Fish on a Kaiser, Souvlaki on a bun and Fish & Chips. My order was 2 hamburgers @ $4.01 each (one with an extra patty for $1.90), Onion Rings 3.00, French Fries $2.50, Fountain Drink $1.30. There's no indoor dining seating however there are 2 picnic tables are located at the side of this restaurant. Service was quick and courteous. The meal was very good! read more

Location/Service It's along Victoria Park, in-between a Shoppers Drug Mart and TD Bank plaza. You can only turn when you're heading north of Victoria Park due do a very high traffic zone. But plenty of parking you can use in either plaza (and limited parking right in front of the restaurant). There's no seating inside, only a small bench outside. Everyone pretty much buys it to go as a quick stop. Service was okay - there were a lot of staff equipped during lunch time, but I felt a little intimidated and rushed by the person making my burger. Food Ordered a lunch combo (available from 11am-2pm). For $6.00, you get a burger, fries and a soft drink - can't really complain about the price (which also explains the service). The lunch combo is their regular hamburger. You get to choose additional topics - which includes your typical lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup/mustard. The patty itself was okay - it was done to the right level, but I felt it's a little dry despite having ketchup and mustard in there. Fries were okay too, not too oily. If you really want cheap, fast food - this is the place. I didn't have great expectations and I got what I expected it to be. I'll be interested to their other burgers to spot any difference. Been a customer of Johnnys for the longest time. It's in my neighborhood so whenever I have a craving for a burger, it's my go to place and yet I haven't written a review on this place. It's an old school burger joint, don't expect anything super fancy like the gourmet burger places all over the city. Affordable prices and decent food to satisfy a craving. They offer lunch special with a hamburger, fries and pop for 6$ up to 3pm which is an A-OK deal. My usual is the hamburger with fries and cup of gravy. Since I've last been here, prices have increased slightly and menus have been upgraded. The taste has never changed. It is a thin beef patty served on a thin hamburger bun and there are select number of condiments offered (yes there is no lettuce). It definitely is simple but satisfying. read more

Finally got the chance to go to Johnny's Hamburgers and grab a burger for lunch. Maybe after reading all these reviews I came with high expectation and was a little disappointed. The Hamburger ($3.05) I order is ok... not too bad but I definitely have much better one! I found the patty does not have a lot of bite. The bun did not toasted enough so it got a little soggy by the time I eat that. The cooked onion as one of the free toppings is a nice touch if you like onions... Onion Rings ($2.10) is A-OK. The batter is light and was not too greasy. BTW, they do have lunch specials for $5.24 Monday to Friday 11:00-3:00 pm will get you a burger/fries/drink. I did get a really good smiling service... the guy that took my order even trying to practise his limited Chinese with me :) and they were all really friendly. Maybe because the place was not too busy when I was there? Will I go again?? Been eating here since I was a kid! This is the best place for a quick bite. Don't expect gourmet anything, just a greasy burger, basic toppings and fries. Don't ask for lettuce, ask for hot peppers and cooked onions instead. There are no tables, just a bench to wait for your order. This place is a classic, and it's been around as long as I can remember. I recently had a chance to visit, and it was as great as I remembered. Is this place the best burger place in Toronto? No - not really...but it's the best $4 cheeseburger that I've had in a long time! The bun was a little too big for the burger, but that was simply solved by ripping off the excess. The fries were pretty good too, and cheap as well. During the week they have a lunch special for $6 which I'll have to come back and take advantage of. Service was very friendly and I didn't have to wait too long for my order to come up. Parking situation is abysmal and you can only access the restaurant from the same side of the street, but with some careful manoeuvring I managed to get in and out unscathed.
