Got response right away from coach Gabe who invited us for free week of classes. Location is super close and convenient to our house. We were happy to find this is not a regular gym but rather a big family that trying to help each other in any way possible. Kids got unbelievable personal attention during the entire class from coach Gabe and another higher belt coach all the time. There is a hidden gem too.. :)) Taekwondo classes 3 times a week with highly skilled and very personable coach Yami, who is also a active JiuJitsu competitor. I love it so much that I've decided at 48 years to start JiuJitsu classes too and signed in along with my son with the adults. I was a student here for 8 years but took one year off for injury. I did succeed in earning my…read morefirst degree black belt while there. When I first started it was great! The beginners class was very structured with a quick 15minute warm up and then you were divided by your level (white, yellow or orange) and the instructors, who were either intermediate or advanced students, would be teaching either basics, forms or techniques for 15 minutes and then rotate so you got instruction in all of the categories and from different instructors. The intermediate class was structured similarly but with 20 minute sections and the instructors were advanced students. Where it started to go downhill was in the advanced class for all the brown and black levels. The owner and head instructor Jones taught that class so it didn't have the same structure. He called it seminar style but I call it boring. By the time I got to that class we actually had more advanced students than beginner and intermediate combined. You would get maybe 20 minutes of actual instruction in this class the rest of the time was usually focusing on one or two techniques and doing them in a technique line. Technique lines are definitely valuable for learning and absolutely should be done but when you're not the one actively participating in it, it gets boring as hell very fast. The only hope to try to learn something as an advanced student was to hope he wasn't teaching that night. Or since we had so few students in the other classes, show up for those and work on something with the other advanced students. This is part of the reason it takes 1 year to advance between the brown ranks and to get to black. Jones himself was an insufferable man to be around. He claimed his teaching style was "old school" and if you made the mistake of becoming an initiate or disciple, you agreed to basically become his slave. He expected you to drop everything to serve him. If you missed a single class, you better have been working because nothing else was acceptable. If he made a mistake on showing a technique and it was pointed out, we all were wrong and he was right. He made his disciples do his personal errands like drop him off and pick up from the airport; clean his pool; do his yard work. I know of at least 4 marriages that ended due to him, including his own and my own. If Jones wasn't involved in the school, it would have been terrific.

But honestly, I have been waiting for changes here but it has not changed. For one thing are the broken treadmills!!! I'd give one star if I could. They just keep patching them with black tape like it's a broken G.I. Joe toy. Part of one of their classes like the REP utilizes the treadmill. If you are sprinting and running on it for like how many classes they offer a day, of course they will wear and tear so quickly! Like 3 or 4 of them don't even fricking incline anymore and one of them have like labels on it that says not to incline. It looks tacky AF! Like why am I paying a monthly more than some people that are offered lower monthly rate, when you guys can't even get new machines to replace these broken ass treadmills. The floors are dirty and found a gob of hair at one point. Not sure if they are vacuuming the Rep room after each use. I refuseeeeeeee to lay on the ground when we have to. I don't want to play...is the ground clean today or is it dirty. Maybe have bigger mats available for people; not the little tiny knee mats if floors are not maintained . The last thing I dislike being a member more lately is how full the classes are. Like I thought there is a cap to each classes, why are there more people allotted to the class?? When every spot is taken, why is there extra people that are around when there is no spot left? This baffles me. Like it's already crowded sometimes, and there's more people added? Like you go for heavier weights and you can't because the extra people are using it. It doesn't help when they also have their promotions; then you really have to book your class a week in advance because the classes get so full a sudden. It's like why pay membership for unlimited if it's always full. Last rant I have is the icing on the cake. I get an email from a staff member saying that this was their 3rd attempt to supposedly reach out to me about my updating my credit card when I missed 2 payments and that she would have to suspend my membership and cancel all my classes until I paid and updated my card. Okay welll first of all, I have been coming 2-3x a week from January and not once did I get an email, phone call, or a reminder from front desk about updating my card information. NOT ONCE. But she claims they attempted and this is supposedly the "3rd time". You're delusional. I know I should have updated it once I cancelled my card in Januarybut I completely forget to let them know since Im a busy person saving lives in NV. Well if you needed it- it's your staff's duty to also let me know especially when they check us in. Also, there was a better approach to this like for example- calling me anytime from January to now! Duh. But I never got a call, email, or staff tell me. This was just poor communication and service especially when I'm a regular! If it wasn't for the 5am class offering, I'm so close to just saying bye to this gym but I'm really trying to give this place a chance to hopefully be better. . There many improvements that can be made here. Hopefully you guys take notes and get new machines.
