The wife and I were eager to find a good coffee shop in old town Manassas. This wasn't it. To drink, got a 5 shot latte and expected it to be quite strong. It tasting more like a watery coffee. To eat, I got a egg tomato and cheese on panini. The bread wasn't ideal and the egg tasted microwaved. My wife got a caramel latte with an extra shot. Hers was weak as well, and she is not particularly fond of strong drinks as I am. To eat, my wife got a egg sausage and cheese on English muffin. She also felt her egg tasted microwaved and the sausage had a texture of rubber with pockets of air. Her immediate comment was that McDonalds makes it better, and we weren't really in the mood for McDonalds. We both ended up throwing out both our food and drinks, disappointed in the consistently poor quality between both our meals. Our recommendation to this shop would be to invest in a better way to make eggs and evaluate how the espresso is being made for drinks, as it was too weak/watery. read more

I really want to like this coffee shop. Cute little shop in downtown, would be a great place to relax on a weekend morning outside on the patio. I also love supporting small local places and a number of years ago this place used to be pretty good. However, now there's just no consistency. I've gone 4-5 times over the past year, all on different days of the week and at different times. I always get a latte and occasionally a prepared food item and the quality of the coffee has ranged from decent to down right undrinkable. I have sadly had to throw away one of my drinks because it was so watery and disgusting. I would have gone back to have them try again except it took a half hour for me to receive the first one and I didn't have time to wait for them to redo it. Which brings me to my next issue, they are extremely slow. It doesn't seem to matter whether there is only one other patreon in the shop or multiple. Most of the time they only have one barista working the counter. But even when they had two baristas, I have had to wait at least 20 minutes or longer to receive my order. I even tried placing an advance online order once to see if that would help but I was still left waiting past the scheduled pickup time. read more

Gushing reviews are anathema to me, but the exceptional service I had here warrants one. I would rate the chill Mr. Barrista here at Grounds Central Station among the top three I have encountered in the entire country. If you like your lattes and pour-overs custom prepared with a warm-hearted, soulful approach, you will want to check out this spot. I complained that I wanted coffee, but not a whole lot of it, and I continued to complain about how overly-sweet the Starbucks mixed coffee drinks are, and he took it all in stride, reassured me that he could do a mixed drink with low sugariness and a robust amount of coffee but not too much...and thus perfectly assuaged my perplexed java-pout with a gentle manner. I then got the "love potion no.9" which is a cinnamon-infused latte to which he added some pour-over coffee rather than leave it full bitter espresso. He really gave the perfect picker upper, and in a very unassuming, genuine way. Ladies and gentlemen, this rare Barrista specimen must be gushed over! The nice tone of this place extends to the decor in the coffee shop which features local artists who have painted local attractions. The coffee here comes with a virtual hug. Finally asked how they were going after watching an online food order that came in 15 minutes after us order two specialty coffees in person and get there two drinks before us. This cute little coffee shop is located opened back in May of '10 and offers a variety of coffee beverages, smoothies, teas, breakfast paninis/sandwiches, ice cream , and other baked goods. You can also purchase bags of Monument brand coffee. I tried one of their 'Main Street Favorites,' the 'Love Potion No. 9' - this is a white chocolate with cinnamon coffee drink - very strong, not too sweet, creamy, and had a nice little touch of cinnamon. It was actually pretty tasty! I also tried a Coconut Cream Brownie and a Raspberry Cheesecake Brownie - these seemed to be baked on the premise. I wasn't really a fan of these, as they were more dark chocolate and bitter - it was also more on the dry side; the Coconut Cream had hardly a coconut taste to it, and the Raspberry Cheesecake didn't emulate a cheesecake at all and was more brownie focused. We were greeted right away when we walked in, and the barista was such a sweetheart :D There were plenty of tables and some chairs throughout where you can do some work, chit-chit, and/or enjoy a nice cup of coffee. I'm so glad I found another good coffee shop! I used to only go to Jirani's, but Grounds has more variety. My first time visiting I got an iced, almond milk latte with lavender and vanilla (1 pump each). It was pretty good! On my most recent I decided to test out one of their iced coffee's and I was very impressed! I got the honey cold brew. They used nitro cold brew, honey made specially for cold brew and I added a little cream. The cold brew was smooth and had absolutely no acidity to it. The honey and cream were fresh and were a great addition, even though the cold brew would've been great on its own. The bagels are also super filling! I got a peanut butter and honey bagel and almost couldn't finish all of it. I will definitely be back!! Edit: also the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about coffee. The only downside to this place would be the lack of parking. One of the baristas said you can park across the street at the hotel if you're just running inside for a cup of coffee. If you're looking to sit in a coffee shop for a while though you may have to walk a little bit from the parking lot to get there. read more

After having been wanting to try a little local cafe I hunted here around on Yelp and found this place. All the reviews seemed pretty good and I kept reading about their mounds mocha - I love coconut but it seems that very few coffee shops have it unless it's summer so I was pretty excited for that. So my husband and I came one Saturday morning. Little did we know a parade was going on so we had to park a ways and walk. The place was packed and chaotic. Some family of four was painstakingly ordering in front of us, nit picking over what was going into the hot chocolates they were ordering for their children. Even going to the point of looking at the label of the chocolate they would put into the drinks. Ridiculous. Due to how busy it was the employees seemed quite frazzled, but still friendly. We ordered two breakfast sandwiches, one bacon egg and cheese, the other with sausage, and one medium iced mocha and one iced mocha with coconut. $23 total, a littler more than I would like to pay for breakfast but oh well. About 5 minutes after waiting an employee came up to inform me they did not have coconut and if I would like anything else in it. Rather disappointing as that was the main reason for me being there. So I got Irish cream instead. The mochas came out hot, as opposed to iced how we had asked for. But the stream of people coming in was still steady and we just wanted to get out of there. We got our sandwiches and left. I really liked mine, and it was a huge sandwich, two people could easily share one. But the mochas were the most terrible ones we have ever had. They had the weirdest after taste. Both of them. The lids on the cups also had a very strong plastic odor that was unappetizing. So weird. I will try them one more time, on a week day when its hopefully not so busy. And I imagine their lunch sandwiches would be quite good so I'd like to try them. This should be a 3 star review but I just can't dock the best coffee shop in Manassas more than one star because I'm kinda impatient. The coffee here is excellent but the service is often SLOW. There have been a handful of occasions where I have walked in, stood around waiting to be acknowledged and, having not had an opportunity to order after a couple minutes, walked out without ordering because it was clear that their timeline didn't match mine. There have been a few more occasions where the length of my wait for my beverage caused me to reconsider coming back. Service is always friendly and, again, their coffee is excellent (way better than Jirani where the service is also slow) but their processes could use refining; a single breakfast sandwich in the queue ahead of you can cause a significant delay as the person taking your order is also the person making your coffee and that breakfast sandwich. read more

Visiting the morning of October 23 (we mention the date because the young lady working solo that morning is delightful), we had a hankering for coffee and light breakfast following our stay at the nearby Olde Towne Inn (Everything you'd expect in a "vintage" motor inn. Yet comfy, clean, affordable and downtown location). The aforementioned barista greeted every customer with a warm smile and friendly service. For a brief moment when the line of customers backed up, she warmly acknowledged their presence and indicated she would serve them moment momentarily. Brewing, serving, cleaning, cooking and greeting...this girl can multi-task. Meanwhile, she concocted a stellar veggie bagel eggwich (a genuine value under $4) loaded with garden vegetables, adorned with cheese and finely seasoned. For added sugar in the coffee, she shared some local lore and first hand experience about ghosts lurking in the coffee shop and other historic hauntings around town. Perhaps it was the Halloween Spirit moving her or simply a design to entertain (or frighten) us. But she was genuinely sincere. If you're in Manassas seeking a good breakfast and coffee for a good value with outstanding service to boot. Grounds Central Station is the place. Service could be a lot better. Young lady with curly hair and glasses at the register was rude and unwelcoming. I literally walk in and she ignored me then after awhile comes up to me and asks "what do I want?". Coffee is subpar. Food is quite good. The location is fantastic. If the owners would train their staff to be a little more courteous and friendly to customers and maybe invest in a better brand of coffee ex. Counter culture, this place would be a hit! Very nice small coffee shop in the heart of Old Town Manassas, just a block from the train station. Good, reasonably priced coffees and delicious breakfast sandwiches & panini sandwiches, made to order--quickly. Outdoor & indoor seating. Incidentally, I noticed a couple other reviews complaining of slow service, not being acknowledged when entering, etc. I'm not the patient type, and can safely say I've *always* been waited on promptly and efficiently, with no delay. Obviously if people are in front of you, you'll have to wait for them, but there's rarely more than one person ahead of you anyway, in my experience. Parking is available for all shops in Old Town at the train station (4 hrs, free) and other nearby small free lots. If they are full, there's also a multi story car park structure 1 block away. Tip: Be sure to sign up for their frequent customer points reward program. read more

Well I'm enchanted, cute old school coffee shop with an extensive menu board for a variety of hot and cold drinks, including boba! They also have a food menu and some homemade sweets. Nestled right on Main Street, it's quaint but spacious enough to house a big crowd and even have outdoor seating for the warmer weather. It's warm yet minimal with artwork on the wall for sale from local artisans. There's even a white piano in the back that I bet is awesome when someone with talent walks in with an itch to play. If I lived in town, this would be a daily haunt because it's worth the walk even in the cold for the friendly atmosphere and piping hot beverages. Btw, try the Cinnabun Latte! Mmmmmmmm.... read more

I have visited this coffee spot several times. They roast their own beans and there coffee is so smooth. I haven't branched out much past the iced mocha latte as it is so good. The staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating, switching up ingredients as requested. Calling ahead and ordering is helpful if you are visiting on a Saturday morning when it is busy. They focus on drinks, but do have breakfast sandwiches and a couple bagels and several homemade yummy sweets. Wanted to try a local coffee place that isn't Starbucks, and this seemed to have generally a good review base over all, so went out with the intention of having some nice coffees and walk around Old Towne. Nope. I want to emphasize that this place was basically dead when we got in. One lady was in front of me but was sitting down with her drink, a guy was at the counter at his computer with a drink, so we figured we could get in and out quickly. The guy took our order and we sat while waiting. Then we noticed he wasn't....doing anything. He stood behind the counter staring, then chatted with the guy at the counter. Then said something about loving the quiet nights where he had nothing to do! My partner was about to get up and ask where our our coffees were, but he ran out with a bag of trash, then came back in and had two guys following him. He made their drinks immediately. I am furious at this point because we were forgotten about. My partner goes up and asks if he forgot us. The guy just sort of stares at us and goes "oh....yeah...." and looks at the coffee machines. Partner insists on a refund instead. The only thing he tells us is that it'll take two days to process. No apology or anything. I thanked him for forgetting us as customers before walking out. The whole time we wasted in here was 20 minutes. I cannot recommend this place at all. The inside of the cafe is dirty and it looks more like a convenience store. So this is what happened to the place called "Simply Sweet" ... I had always heard good things about it, then heard nothing of it at all. I gathered from the reviews that the owner changed the name to reflect the coffee-centric shop, but retained much of Simply Sweet's offering and charm. After carefully navigating the construction minefield on Main St., I stopped by GCS for the first time Friday. My mission was simple single-minded - a nice latte to enjoy on my walk back home - but I was surprised to see the variety of items for offer at GCS. They have a nice selection of sandwiches and paninis for both breakfast and lunch, and a great selection of special coffee drinks and Edy's ice cream for those of the sweeter tooth. And they have bubble tea! HOORAY BUBBLE TEA! All in a nice, cozy small town indy coffee-house setting. As for me, I kept to my purpose and ordered my standard large latte with skim and an extra espresso shot. The coffee was very smooth and balanced, not overly bitter like it tends to be at a certain national chain that rhymes with "Farclucks". Price was within range of comparable items at aforementioned national chain or DD. Definitely plan to stop here again when needing a coffee fix in Old Town. My mocha was excellent, cannot complain there. It was a good place to record a presentation with my partner for an online class (not considering the fact it took me an hour to get here but since her participation has been next to nothing, I'm happy she was even willing to meet me) and was (mostly) quiet. I saw their menu which has many breakfast sandwiches, other coffee drinks, blended drinks, smoothies, and bubble tea. Also, they have ice cream. I'm sweet on this place! I had lunch here today based on one of the reviews bragging about their chicken salad sandwich, and now I see why. It was delightful. I had an Italian soda, which was sweet (as it should be) and not at all like cough syrup, as Italian sodas made with sub-par syrup often taste. My friend also enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich along with a hot vanilla chai. It was her first experience with chai, and it was a major success. Matt was super helpful. He even offered to move one of the big comfy chairs for my pregnant friend. He had set up a cute little craft table for people to make Halloween masks--how quaint!
