I utilized Grove Pharmacy for 30 years and was quite satisfied by their service. The staff was friendly and would do whatever possible to accommodate all your needs. Once it was taken over by Better Health, everything changed. The service became flawed - they lost track of two of my orders. Despite my express instructions otherwise, , they were refilling prescriptions that I didn't order. I'd receive a prescription before needed, and even received a refill on a prescription I hadn't taken in 6 months, Worst of all, the staff could be rude and even nasty. I'm so happy now that I've moved on to another pharmacy. As more and more places seem content to accept mediocrity from their staff, it's disheartening to see even a pharmacy--where professionalism should be non-negotiable--fail at something as basic as opening on time. My schedule is tight. I can only realistically pick up my prescriptions before work, which means I need to be out the door by 8:30 AM at the latest. They also close well before my workday ends and are now closed on Sundays--my one other potential window. So here I am, writing this review at 8:47 AM on a Friday morning. I've been standing outside since 8:30, waiting. The doors are still locked. Staff are clearly inside, walking around, doing their thing--without so much as a glance or an acknowledgment that someone is waiting. Not even a polite nod. This kind of indifference is exactly why people stop supporting small, local businesses. I wanted to support a local pharmacy. But when you make it this inconvenient and this dismissive, don't be surprised when customers take their business elsewhere. I'll be transferring my prescriptions to Walgreens--it's more convenient, and at this point, likely more reliable. read more

Grove pharmacy is now under new ownership. They are in total disarray now. I have used this pharmacy for over 20 years with excellent service. last week when I went there to get my monthly rx, I was lied too by staff saying my meds were out of stock. after waiting a week I finally got to talk to manager Chris who told me they will no longer fill my meds because they are of narcotic nature. this put my health in serious danger needlessly. while waiting in store multiple days trying to discuss the problem with my rx. Many long time customers complained about the confusion and poor service now the norm in this store. try calling the phone number and you may be on hold for an hour, like me. Grove Pharmacy has a new owner as of Fall 2024, and the dropoff in the quality of service since is appalling. I've been prescribed the same two medications for perhaps a decade, and before the new ownership I had little trouble getting these refilled per my healthcare provider's prescription. Most recently, I requested a renewal from my provider per usual and when I hadn't heard anything from Grove after a week I called them and learned that they're no longer ordering or stocking the medications. These aren't exotic, high-priced biologics; they are generically available pills. Grove hadn't bothered to inform me that they didn't want to fill prescriptions for these drugs anymore, nor apparently did they notify my provider. If Grove doesn't care to fill prescriptions for certain drugs or drug classes, they should disclose this upfront on their door or on their website or in their communications to doctors, so patients' drug treatment isn't affected. They're running a pharmacy, not a liquor store, and should act responsibly. For people who prefer to use an "independent" pharmacy, there are others in the area. read more

Forget this pharmacy. They are rude, unhelpful and impossible to get on the phone. I moved from Manhattan and was looking for a new pharmacy, thinking that Grove would be better than the big chains. They are awful! Try Rose Pharmacy in Wayne right at the entrance to Willowbrook Mall area. They could not be nicer! They deliver, they compound, they'll order hard to get medicines. Grove Pharmacy staff gives you the personalized attention like "way back in the day". Employees are knowledgeable about their medical home products for post surgical patients and the elderly. Products such as cast coverings for bathing are available. They have toiletries and other drugstore related items that are a little on the pricey side. However, if you need a particular product, they're gonna have it!!! On a lighter note, they have a section with great cards and adorable gifts (balloons, candles, chocolates etc...). I hate to publish a bad review of a business, especially one for an independent retailer. We used Grove Pharmacy for years, chosing to support them over large chains. We love their personalized service and sang their praises, until we learned how much they were over charging us for our prescriptions. When they wanted to charge me over $300 for one of my prescriptions, Grove told me that the cost was due to my insurance insisting that a generic not be used. I called my doctor's office to ask if there was a less-expensive alternative and they were shocked at the price I called a different pharmacy and was told that the charge would be $10 for exactly the same medicine (not the generic form). I then asked about the cost for my other prescriptions. Grove charged me $70+ for a medication that the other pharmacy charge me about $3 for, and so on. I struggled over writing this review, as I try to avoid doing harm to any local business, but ultimately felt it was important to bring this issue to light. I would expect to pay a little more at an independent retailer, but was flabbergasted to learn that Grove Pharmacy marked up my prescriptions 180%. Shame on me for not checking this years ago. Shame on Grove Pharmacy for grossly inflating prices. read more

Okay... this was my first visit here and it wasn't because I needed to purchase meds. I actually visited this pharmacy because it was recommended to me by my child's pediatrician to get her ears pierced. Upon entering they greet you with a good ole fashion smile, it reminds you of a neighborhood Pharmacy which no longer exist because of the chain pharmacies. Jeanine escorted me over to the Cosmetics section and showed me a whole line of gold plated ($45)and 14K ($75)gold earrings. I asked Jeanine how much experience did she have when it came to piercing ears and she replied "Thirty Years". She was in her late 60's but I trusted her over a teeny bopper in Claire's. Jeanine was warm, friendly, and knowledgeable in assisting us in selecting the right earrings for our daughter. There was no pressure and she reassured us that our child was in good hands. My child got their ears pieced here. She got a helix piercing, which is a piercing at the cartilage part of your ear. We should have probably gone to a professional place, but I thought it would be better to go here, since she got her first piercing here. Anyway, she had gotten a piercing before, just not a cartilage one. They didn't give very good directions on the aftercare, because after doing some reaserch on the piercing, you actually are not supposed to twist the cartilage piercing. They never said anything about that. Luckly, she told me that her piercing was hurting when she was twisting it, like a week after, so we stopped twisting it in time before she could have gotten an infection. But other than that service and ear piercing was good. read more

I wanted to use this pharmacy because they're a "mom and pop shop." However, medications that I fill monthly are frequently not in stock, and no one bothers to tell you that until you go to refill your script, causing me to have to go another pharmacy. That frustration could be avoided by my calling a week before needing to refill in their defense. Today, though, I tested positive for COVID and was prescribed the antiviral RX by my doctor at 3 pm. The script was electronically sent at 3:15 pm. At 4:30 pm I was advised by Grove that they don't carry the medication at all. I asked them to please call CVS and have it sent there as soon as possible because I am really sick and desperate for any relief. It is now 7:15 pm and CVS has advised they never got the script from Grove, despite calling on my behalf. After ELEVEN calls to Grove by me I finally got through to a gentleman in the pharmacy. I asked what the issue was and he advised that the pharmacist was on the phone with CVS and quickly hung up on me. I understand I am not the only patient at this pharmacy, and that my scripts were not the only ones they received today, but an almost three hour delay to simply send an e-mail when I'm bedridden with a high fever is inexcusable to me. I will never use this pharmacy again, and I advise anyone reading this review not to use them either. read more

Not many places will go out of their way to take care of pharmaceutical/insurance issues. Grove always goes above and beyond to assist any way possible. Each and every sales rep & pharmacist have helped me in the past, but today Dave (pharmacist) really helped me more than you can ever imagine. It's a shame that insurance companies are pushing/shying away from walk-in pharmacies and favoring mail-order. I have a choice to pay a co-pay at a walk-in (Grove) or do free mail-order prescriptions. I've been and plan on paying to give Grove my business. I do not have ANY good reviews about this place. I walked in thinking I was in good hands. 5 minutes later my life drastically changed. I Don't know who it was ( man who pierced his daughters ears 6 times) made it look like my earring was falling off my ear. Second of all, as I was paying ( unhappily) he overcharged me and i know this because my friend was with me and had purchased more items than I had but we were still charged the same price. I spoke to a pharmacist about my order to make sure my OTC purchases would play nice with others. They led me in the right direction. Since they have Mary Jane's at the candy counter I asked to include them in my order. Woo Hoo! The good people at Grove know that taking care of people is about more than chemistry and pharmacology - its about people. Love this place and regret having gone to that other place for the convenience. I just have to add that these guys have earned my lifelong consumer loyalty. I had to take my daughter in to the doctor on a Sunday, and the pediatrician faxed a prescription to Grove Pharmacy at about 2 PM or so. As I was driving home from Tenafly (the only open peds office), my husband got a call from Grove saying that they were about to close so we'd have to pick it up right away. Being a one car family, that wasn't going to happen for at least 20 minutes. One of the employees (owners?) drove the prescription to our home so that we could have it that day - despite the pharmacy being closed by then. It wasn't their delivery service person either. A Montclair institution it may be, but Grove Pharmacy is a bizarre place. The merchandise is out of date, the service lackadaisical, and a malaise pregnant with the end of an era hangs over the place like a pre-storm cloud. Still, I love it. Where else in town could I buy one dozen helium-filled latex balloons, a bedpan, Hello Kitty lip gloss, Spanx hosiery, a Grandparents Day card, ear piercing (including earrings), and birth control all on one tab? The other reason I don't want to see GP go is for fear of what the space might become; this time next year, Montclair will be host to a Cosi, a New York Sports Club, and a third Starbucks. What would fill the hole in the heart of the Montclair-Glenridge border-- a Barnes and Noble, perhaps? Or a Benihana? I shudder to think. read more

I have been having my prescriptions filled at Grove Pharmacy for 30 years and never have I appreciated them more than in the past few weeks. My husband has been undergoing cancer treatment which requires a great deal of medication and the staff and pharmacists have been wonderful in filling his prescriptions promptly despite supply difficulties and road blocks put up by our insurance company. I went to doctor Saturday and was using CVS but had so many problems I decided to change pharmacy in north Arlington nj however I reside in Bloomfield and was on my way to Willowbrook mall. I dropped off at Grove and said cash. When I went back 3 hours later the pharmacist told me they ran out and were expecting that dose Xanax 1 mg sat and never got it. They had scribbled all over the script. They said my husband could bring script in. Welllllllll he went back today Monday in and they kept the prescription and said they were mailing back to doctor making my husband feel embarrassed causing a problem between him and I. Now I wish I would have waited and brought to pharmacy that I switched to. They told my husband I had gotten the Xanax filled recently but failed to look at the dose that was INCREASED!!!! I am suffering tremendously at my job understaffed told my doctor and he said no problem to increase. I figured insurance would not cover so I said I will pay cash. i wondered whether my very first Yelp review would be positive or negative. Well, this is it and it is wholeheartedly positive. It was accidental that I came to use this pharmacy. I normally fill my prescriptions at a chain store near my home. Today, however, after I'd called in for a refill of a common medication I take, they phoned my doctor's office to say they couldn't fill the prescription as there is apparently a national shortage. (It's a blood pressure drug, so it makes me wonder just how stressed out is our country?!) At any rate, my doctor's office called to tell me that Grove Pharmacy had it in stock. That's positive point #1. Positive point #2 is everything else in the pharmacy, from a dedicated candy and cookie stand, to an extensive greeting card selection, to gift items and typical drug store supplies. The candy section had some classic items, such as Turkish Taffy and violet gum/mints. But the most important positive point, #3, was the staff interaction I had. Even though there were many customers, there was also a large staff presence behind the pharmacy counter, so no one had to wait long. The young man who helped me, Alex, was unfailingly polite, professional and informed. His expertise was particularly useful when my insurance at first refused the request to fill my prescription saying it had already been filled. I explained the situation and Alex immediately knew what had to be done (getting the prescription transferred from the other pharmacy.) To top it all off, the cost of the generic prescription, which had already been pretty low at the chain, was about a third lower at Grove. I also take a name brand prescription which costs quite a lot, so when I'm due for a refill on it, I'm going back to Grove. I don't know whether or not I'll realize similar savings on that prescription, but I'm confident I will have a good customer experience. read more
