Owner said "The appearance you are describing is due to the cake being a one-layer cake, which naturally requires a thicker layer of icing for structure and decoration." Pumpkinquest 2025 continues! I stopped at the Grove Street Bakery on my way home. The sign outside said they had apple, cinnamon rolls, but as it was later in the day, they were sold out. I chose their famous pumpkin bar with cream cheese , icing and it was beautiful. Great pumpkin flavor,( although being a spicy girl I would have preferred a little bit more pumpkin spice). Pumpkin Bar was moist and delicious with just the right amount of frosting. that doesn't overwhelm that delicious pumpkin flavor. If you haven't visited the Grove Street Bakery, they have homemade cinnamon rolls, donuts cookies and, of course, pumpkin bars. Easy to find right next to Schooners on East Grove Street in Bloomington illinois. Found out the closest one was near U of I, so to Google I went looking for a local bakery, I stumbled by accident upon Grove Street Bakery, and we were rewarded with some delicious treats!!! My wife LOVED the apple cider cinnamon roll, the cake donuts were delicious, and the sugar cookies we got were awesome!!! Chatted with the owner and some workers, they were great people!!! Not sure there's much value in reviewing this place, it's one of the rare "old school" bakeries left in town - and very well known for it. But I thought I'd add my short review as an occasional consumer. They're consistently very good, reasonably priced, and nice folks to deal with. This place is very popular in Bloomington so I'm surprised there aren't more reviews. I haven't had much experience with Grove Street Bakery but I have eaten a lot of their cookies and I am a huge fan. I don't really like cookies but I tried their frosted sugar cookies once and am glad I did - they're fantastic. I had to bring a gift to be auctioned recently and Grove Street allowed me to buy a gift certificate for a couple dozen cookies without putting a price on the certificate, which is nice because it's awkward to auction something that has a price on it. They do not accept credit or debit, so make sure to bring cash. read more

I'm not sure why there aren't many recent reviews of this bakery but perhaps it is because we aren't as impressed with it now as before it was sold off. I LOVED the previous owner and her products. As i live out of town I am only there occasionally and found out the owner had sold the bakery and was told 'everything is the same'. Well, whatever they are doing, it is not the same. I have lived about 5 minutes away from Grove Street Bakery for the past 2 and half years. I am disappointed it took me this long to discover this place. My preferred baked goods are usually items like cookies or brownies. I saw delicious looking selection of cookies and brownies but my eyes were drawn to a cinnamon roll. It had this amazing looking caramel glaze on top of it. I am not really a fan of caramel but I had a good feeling about it. My intuition was right because it was awesome. I was surprised how inexpensive the prices are. Two cinnamon rolls and a loaf of bread was slightly under 5 dollars. I will definitely be frequenting this place more often. read more

I used to stop here all the time under the prior ownership primarily for the cinnamon rolls. They were a great price and super good. Since the new ownership the price has gone steadily up, and I get that. Could hardly believe the $1.00/each price previously, so that doesn't surprise me. Though I must say I have hit my price point @$3.25 each now. On a rare occasion I will stop in, like this morning at just before 7. I go in knowing the price though, I must say the cinnamon roll I was served up today sure seemed like a day old. (I know it has been a minute since I worked in a bakery, but...)It came from a full sheet that was in the case, but the freshness just wasn't there. They iced sugar cookies are not to be missed. I order these cookies for all of our parties and our out of town friends and family beg to take cookies home. They are truly delicious. If you are placing an order for sweets, especially around the holidays or graduation time, call well in advance of the date needed. My daughters birthday falls on graduation weekend in May & I call in my order over a month in advance because they can only accept a certain number of orders. They accept cash only so remember to hit up the ATM before stopping in. read more

I have been going here for years, stopping on my way to work, occasionally picking up cookies for work events. The iced/frosted sugar cookies are incredible, what most people seem to love. My favorite is the wheat maple cinnamon roll with nuts. The blueberry and cranberry muffins are soft and delicious, and topped with crushed sugar. They usually have themed cookies depending on the season/holidays. Definitely a Bloomington staple. read more

Most amazing sugar cookies I have EVER had in my entire life. So soft, perfectly baked sweetness. I could gorge myself to death with these amazing cookies. They are reasonably priced as well. I have tried other items from their shop as well (cinnamon bun, donuts, and cupcakes), and I have to say that this is one of the absolute best bakeries I have ever been to. The building they are in is old and quaint, like a sweet little bakery should be. The employees are very very nice and helpful.
