We came here as a guests visiting Family (that had rented a site) for a Halloween event. I was delighted with how large and well maintained Groveland Oaks County park is. There are walking paths all throughout, wooden bridges, multiple playgrounds, a lake with a groomed beach, small arcade, cozy camp store, yurts, group sites, full hook-up or tent sites; you truly have a plethora of options available to you. My extended family has camped here multiple times, and they have enjoyed every stay. I would have no problem booking a site for ourselves, for a staycation, next summer after seeing what they have to offer. read more

This place is quite a gem!! First, the park is beautifully laid out and there are lots of activities to keep families especially kids busy. The fire rings at every site are great! Next, the prices are very reasonable and they allowed us to stay together as a group. The ladies in the office are so friendly and helpful. We needed to be closer to the bathhouse and they made it happen. The showers are clean and well designed. They are pet friendly too as we were there for a dog show. Over all it was a very pleasant experience. For the young folks leaving bad reviews here, I challenge you to volunteer here at the park raking leaves or picking up trash. Hopefully this will build your character so that you see the true value of this park. read more

So called "team leader" was extremely rude and abrasive, never coming back due to his attitude and harassment.

This old man that was a camp ranger he was rude and disrespectful to my family and told us to take down an pg move even though IT WAS A DISNEY MOVIE for my kids. The front office said the train tickes to ride around the campground in a train were out even though there were more than three carts open Everytime the trian passed by my site. The old man also followed my kids out of the park after they kicked them out and made my kids very uncomfortable!! If you want to go to this campground be ready for false information, rude and disrespectful people (especially one particular old man) and not have a good time because this campground has so many rules that are way to strict to have fun such as going to your campsite and having them yell at you to take down a pg movie and follow your kids out of the park. They ruined my last camping trip of the year so I suggest you NEVER go to this campground!!! read more

My family took our trailer camper for our maiden camping trip to Groveland Oaks because it wasn't too far from home and it's a good starter spot to go since it's close enough to civilization that if we do forget to bring something, Waterford and Clarkston are a jump, skip, and a hop away. The place is HUGE! We loved the beach area. Lots of clean sand, and the whole swimming area is consistently shallow (no random deep spots). There were lots of people, but still plenty of room for social distancing. There's a huge playground that we didn't even get to visit, but definitely will the next time we go. There's apparently also a putt putt course (you have to bring your own clubs and balls), The campground is huge and there was plenty of room for my pup to play and a tree right in our campsite so we were able to put a lead on there so she wouldn't run away. We were at site # 237. I'm not sure how other sections of the campground is like, but there was a huge patch of grass between us and the groups behind us and next to us, so we didn't feel cramped at all. Every spot (in my section, at least) has water and 30 amp hook up. There was no question about whether the hook ups belonged to us or the spot next to us. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. There's a concession stand, but wasn't open due to COVID. Overall, especially for a maiden camping trip, we thought it was pretty much perfect. read more

We went to our campsite turns out that our campsites power box was messed up to where we had no power as everybody else did our whole trip, we had a potty tent that we had to take down, we weren't allowed to have our cars parked near us. If they were trying to ruin a fun family vaca. Well congrats they did it! Don't ever go here unless u want to hear mean people be rude to u. It got to where it wasn't fun to where my family and I left a day early. We asked for a refund for the one day that we didn't stay and they refused. NEVER go here! I was excited to go camping and then we get there check in with the mean man and then we find out we have no power or water. and the time the power is supposed to come back keeps getting extended. would not recommend this place. Wow Enjoyed Labor Day 2018 weekend here with my bride, niece and nephew. Took our RV out for the maiden voyage and could not have picked a better place. They had many activities for the kids. Which where fantastic. Rented the paddle boats and did dodge ball and da ga "?" ball. Henna tattoos, rock climbing and dunk tank! Only bad deal is the internet - which is terrible. Watch out for the dump line as it was very long on the way out. Glad we had full service site. read more

This place has some nice things for the kids to do but there are some issues. Curfew IS NOT enforced. People are blaring music, children screaming and lots of drinking until 12-1am while the Sheriff takes a nap in the parking lot. If you are not in an RV it will be loud and miserable, especially if you have kids who WANT to go to bed at night. The bathrooms, (well, at least the men's). Are absolutely disgusting and it's the guests fault, not the parks. The amount of feces all over every toilet and surface is completely atrocious. A few that really stand out to me are the giant pile of bloody soaked napkins left all over the sink area poo all over every stall and a piece purposely stuck to the front of the soap dispenser. Tried this spot this weekend. First off the line to just get in takes forever. There system is unorganized and takes way to long. We had reservations and still waited about a hour. We got to our site and they are pretty spacious. All gravel. The bathhouse cost .25 for 5 Mins and they are very clean and well taken care of. They hours that things are open are extremely short and they sometimes close early with out warning. Water slide was closed and the kids were pretty sad. The small arcade was a joke as most games didn't even work. The paddle boats and the 4 wheel bikes that were for rent were a good time. The playgrounds were also very cool with a lot of choices. The police come around more times than I Can count, makes me Wonder if they have issues. read more

Great place for camping. Great spaces and clean sites. Always family friendly and we love this place.

Very close to home the kids loved what this place has to offer as far as amenities and attractions. The downfall is in the summer months they lose power a lot. Stayed there four times this past year and the power went out on tow of the trips. Other than that this place is wonderful I would definitely recommend it especially for their Halloween weekend. read more

A wonderful location. Extremely well kept. While we were there in July 2020, we saw a crew working quickly and efficiently all throughout the park; mowing, weed eating, cleaning, watering. The newer bath house was clean and spacious with very nice family restrooms so we could care for both of our little ones and ourselves at the same time. Great array of amenities; lake with great sandy beach that was fresh-combed every day, a swimming hole at one end of the lake great for kids of all ages, multiple wonderful playgrounds, trails, and different sports fields. The concession/restaurant was closed due to COVID so I can't give an opinion on that. Sites are not super large but not one top of one another, and not fully wooded, but some trees spaced throughout. read more

Definitely a Park we will return to...large camp sites, well light water and electric boxes, bike paths, upgraded bath house. We stayed in the C section of the camping area, which had full hook-up for our camper. Park is a non-reservable for most sites, so it's always good to check in on a Monday or Tuesday...if looking for a premium spot. oh did I mention large camp site...and it was nice and quiet...Oakland County sheriffs portal regularly...love it. read more

Oakland County has a really great parks system. Just hit Groveland Oaks today for a looksee with my kid (a week before school starting and Labor Day) and it was way-less than have filled up. GO is both a day use and camping park. As far as the camping goes, it boasts over 250 spots, 8 cabins (huge), and 14 larger group camping areas with pavilions. I saw 2 yurts either being finished up or worked on today so I am not sure if those are on their cabin listings. You can reserve yourself closer to the beach or in the way-back 40 for some (more seeming) peace and quiet (try the spots #'d in the low 100's or the cabins in that area). I saw a miniature golf course and skate park (closed up/not in use). There is a big playground closer to the lifeguarded beach and a couple of other scattered smaller ones. You'll also find a 1 hoop basketball court, large activity shelter, volleyball courts, and activity stage with bleachers and a large tent covering picnic tables by the open field (they have evening concerts there). Big kids can enjoy the small arcade with 5 or 6 games and a money changing machine by the boat rentals. The canoe, kayak, foot pedal unit rentals were pretty well-priced. You can also rent non-traditional bikes next to the waterslide area. You have the option of paying use of the waterslide by the singular dip, in packages of 10, or getting a wristband for unlimited use. Bottled sodas out of the vending machines were $2. There is a enclosed concession stand and covered eating building area by the beach. One star off for the cruddy bathrooms and showers here. These should be redone at some point as they are pretty grody. Not sure about the state of the other bathroom/shower buildings in the park. The boards on the bridge over the waterway seem to be on their way out too. I do like that GO has a laundry facility onsite and takes credit cards for the entry fee. If you are an Oakland County resident and have ID you pay $5 as of this writing. I like that they actually check ID's unlike the state parks (why the hell do I pay the extra when I renew my car registration if the jokers aren't going to check that EVERYONE has a valid entry so they can pay their fair due?!). My mom's entire family gets together every July to camp and a few years ago we moved from Bruin Lake to Groveland Oaks. We have camped on the individual sites as well as the group sites. The two experiences are very different. When we camped on the sites, the rules were enforced very strictly. We would typically have about 6 - 8 sites adjacent to each other and there were times that we were asked to move our tents because they were on two different sites (belonging to family members). I understand that they don't want more tents/campers on a site then you are suppose to have, but it was a little nit picky. We were also approached about playing music too loud, dogs being on leashes at all times, having too many cars parked on a site and paperwork not being properly displayed. It was pretty ridiculous. On the group sites, they don't seem to care about anything. We have too many cars parked on sites, campers set up sideways, dogs running everywhere unleashed. Its kind of bizarre. I love that the group sites have their own port-a-john, a pavilion with tons of picnic tables, large grills and a fire pit central to everyone. The one thing that is kind of annoying is the built in benches near the firepits. They make it hard to circle up because when you put a chair in front of the benches, you are so close to the firepit but the benches are too far back to really be functional. Its just weird placement and totally unnecessary. The beach is nice, but very shallow; it gets great sun all day. The waterslide was closed this year which was a bummer. The snack bar has a great selection and campground wide, there are so many activities. Dances, live bands, putt-putt, BMX track and a skate park to name a few. If you are a nature lover, this really isn't your kind of park. There aren't many trails or paths, and other than birds and aquatic creatures, there aren't any animals. You can leave your garbage out over night and nothing will get at it. The facilities are clean enough. You have to pay for the showers (which I think kind of sucks) and there was one time I went to use the restroom and my stall was out of TP. The bathroom counters are always soaking wet and they only have hand dryers. Not a ton of mature trees but it has gotten better over the years. There are a lot of full sun sites and the ground gets really dried out and the grass is like straw. This is a great park for families with kids. I totally feel like my kids can safely run around by themselves. Staff is very accessible and county sheriffs are often driving around or on horseback. I have a lot of great memories here and look forward to next year already. read more

The whole "key card, locking gate" thing is cool, until i go to get food and all of a sudden i'm locked out of the campground & can't get to my camper and dogs at 10pm. called both numbers on the sign to hear nothing but voicemails? waited 10 minutes, called a couple times and walked up to the office, not a dang person to help had to drive around the gate to get in. this is not the first issue i've had here, unfortunately. & wouldn't honestly recommend staying. sad too because the place is really really pretty, but management needs some love. read more

This campground is pretty awesome. The sites are huge and the trees are set up just perfectly to give you privacy from your neighbors, though I wish there were more trees in the campsites. The little cafe was awesome, their funnel cakes are delicious and they offer a tumbler that you can refill drinks with for a dollar, and with slushies on the weekend! The kids loved it. Staff was very friendly, helpful, and relatable. I loved that the sheriff's drove through the park every day and night, and one sheriff came by and gave our kids popsicles. It was awesome. Loved this campground, but I wish the lake swimming area was a bit bigger, maybe not partitioned off. read more

This is a very versatile park that is good for all ages. It has an 18 hole mini golf course, lake with boat rental, beach, two mile paved and unpaved trail, and more. The atmosphere there is very pleasant and there are plenty of activites for kids and adults to keep occupied (fishing, hiking, biking, you name it). It is an excellent campsite/day park about 20 minutes from downtown clarkston. A lot of people show up for holidays to picnic and enjoy the park especially for the 4th of july fireworks. read more

Spent a weekday here recently with 4 kids. We swam in the lake, went kayaking and paddle boating, played on the awesome play structures and went on the inflatable water slide. We had a great time. Not an Oakland resident, so entry fee was $12. Including that and all of the other activities, we spent $48--so very reasonable. We brought a picnic lunch and snacks--there are plenty of tables in the shade to eat. The staff we encountered were all very friendly and helpful. 2 things I didn't like: The swimming area is very very small--it would be great to have a larger area to swim and play in the lake. Also, there was a sign saying "campground is full" when there were over 25 empty campsites though out the park. We would have set up a tent and stayed overnight if I wasn't told there were no campsites empty. I am not sure why that was the case. Aside from this, it would be 5 stars. read more

I would have rather parked my motorhome in an alley at 6 mile and gratiot than camped here. I believe the date was June 18th. The showers were disgusting, the staff was rude and it was overall a bad experience. It was the weekend general RV brought in campers to advertise and I wanted to look into them. So me and my 12 year old son got in the car and drove over to it. I would've walked but just the week before I had partial knee replacement surgery. I went to park near a bathroom right in front of a sign that says 15 minute parking and I didn't plan to be gone any more than 5 minutes. As soon as I got out of my car an older white haired sheriff with black glasses came over on a golf cart and told me unless I was using the bathroom I had to park way down the road. I tried telling him I just had surgery but he wouldn't even let me get a word in. So my son pointed over to a different parking lot and said "what about over there where those cars are can we park there?" My son, a god serving loving young man meaning no harm asked. The cranky old sheriff man stops his golf cart, gets off and gets in my sons face and yells, "if I wanted your opinion I would've asked for it. And did I? No. So shut it". The extremely rude man did this in front of a whole group of people and my son was so embarrassed that when we got back to our motorhome he layed down and cried. He had a very high view on police officers and supported them until this incident. So, if you want your child's weekend ruined for asking a simple question, camp here read more
