Since this was written about his NEW location I decided to copy and paste and share it here for all to see! I just finished taking my second class at Basil's new studio in Ridgefield, CT. (Which is GORGEOUS and filled with LOVE!) As always his class was AMAZING! I stumbled upon Basil Yoga in the fall of 2010 when he was located in North Salem, NY - his studio was just a few minutes from my home in Ridgefield. I drove by it quite often and one day I decided to stop in and take a class. That first experience was life changing... Before that I had only taken yoga at a fitness center and one other yoga place in Ridgefield (which was very unwelcoming and militaristic) So when I took my first class at Basil Yoga I was blown away. I didn't know that there was more to yoga than just a good work out! Let me just say that Basil changed my life. His teaching are profound. Not only do you get an amazing yoga workout, but the yoga philosophies, that he weaves into his teachings, are extremely helpful and always seem to be exactly what I need to hear that day. I love that he combines the whole body, mind and spirit in all of his teachings. With the new studio he is offering 50+ classes! So there is defiantly something for everyone. Also, I can't say enough good things about his instructors (Alicia, Bryn, Mike, & Theresa)!!! I love them all - they each bring their own magic to each of their classes. The hardest part is deciding which one to take, because I want to take them all. Also, Christine, at the front is so welcoming and helpful. If you every need anything she is at the ready to help and guide you to the perfect solution. I can't recommend Basil Yoga more highly, not only is it my yoga studio, but it's also my spiritual sanctuary, where the community is strong and the yoga traditions are alive and well!

Plus, I realized the value of being in a room with other pregnant women once a week - it was validating and reassuring, plus it showed me a glimpse of what was to come when women much further along in their pregnancies shared their ups and downs and plans for birth and beyond. The new location is even better, with a babbling brook in the background and a dedicated zen space. Ellen herself is positive, affirming, flexible, accommodating and knowledgeable at a time when (as a new mom to be) there are plenty of things to worry about. Coming to her prenatal classes I know she'll shape a practice that meets me and the other ladies in the room where we are, at any stage of pregnancy. A few times I've been lucky enough to have a private session with Ellen and she knows just how to push me to the edge of my pregnant abilities without overdoing it - I appreciate that because many prenatal exercise routines are very tame, when you're used to really sweating pre-pregnancy. Jessica joined the studio a few months ago and she also knows her stuff - I frequently attend her Wed night classes. Now at 37 weeks pregnant I'm counting the days until I'm the one that stops showing up to class because my baby has come - but I'm sure this yoga practice has helped me to take pregnancy curve balls in stride, remedy the effects of a too-long commute and feel prepared in yet another way to face my planned natural birth with confidence and an open mind. In the readings, it's not uncommon for Jesus or Mother Mary to come through, which they did for my reading. But, and this is a big but, if you have a lovely protected shungite room with some of the highest vibrating beings on the planet coming thru, wouldn't you kinda think they'd protect you and you wouldn't need to wear your mask? That dichotomy and disconnect between energy, vibration and fear doesn't really work for me. Hence, my prior review remains the same that this is a Spirit Lite sort of place...which there is nothing wrong with whatsoever because everyone needs a place to start. It is my deepest desire and wish that one owner would step out of her fear and into the truth and light and knowing that one's own field can protect you from bullets - think of Neo in the Matrix - and you do not need to sit around in masked fear. Regardless, I always find something here, like the moon calendar I needed, and am grateful they do exist. But being a conscious empath walking into fear porn where there should not be fear porn remains super hard. The feather wall hangings currently for sale are especially lovely. And, more often than not I buy larger crystals here I am very pleased with.

Where Darien Beachgoing Gets Practical…read more Pear Tree Point is the more, shall we say, functional, of the two Darien public beaches. Weed Beach, located across a bay from Stamford, has something of a mystical quality to it. It is where high schoolers go in the summertime to smoke out (yes, the name is a coincidence), where the passionate but slightly off-tune sounds of local bands fill humid night air. Weed Beach has woodlands to wander through, a hidden playground through a clearing of trees, paddle tennis courts that I think only ghosts use, and lots and lots of weeds, making every step into the water squishy and unsure. But Pear Tree Point is the beach where you get things done. It's got boat docks attached, so it's the starting point for many a "booze cruise", a favorite pasttime of the Darienite. Families love Pear Tree Point, probably because it's shaped in such a way that it's easy for the kids to stay in view; there's nowhere to disappear to. So children go about producing their childlike things: sandcastles, trenches for the water to flow through, holes to bury themselves in. Pear Tree Point has a gazebo at its center, perched on top of rocks. It's perfect for eating a hamburger and fries from the concession stand during the day, and for making out at night. Pear Tree Point is situated along Long Neck Point, location of some of the fanciest houses in this very, very fancy part of the world. If you're the kind of person who likes to gawk at luxurious homes a la Newport, Rhode Island, then it's worth a slow drive down Long Neck Point road until you get to the end, which is a former girls' school now converted, I think, into residences. The atmosphere is rarefied, elegant, and oh-so-preppy. Pear Tree Point, like all the beaches in southern Fairfield County, has a kind of rough sand, and the water's generally cold. Tahiti it is not. The sun, like so many phenomena in the New York area, is either too dim or too scorching. It takes a certain toughness to enjoy beachgoing in the northeastern part of the United States. But after a day being there, you feel as if you have accompilshed something, and accomplishment, after all, is the highest personal value among most Darienites who bring the never-stop-achieving ethos of New York City back to their town.

The snack bar "uncles by the shore" is owned by uncles deli which is situated on the post road in Darien and closes around 3pm I believe which is pretty annoying. One star off for their gross bathrooms. This beach is smaller than weed beach and does not have a pavilion like weed beach but has a cute gazebo and plenty of space. If you're lucky enough to even get in.

It wasn't super busy when I went, but would suggest getting a free ticket online in advance just in case.

Run, don't walk, and try out her new 75 minute signature facial. The peel...the cold oxygen mist...the red light laser....warm gloves, foot massage. This is heaven. I have never felt so relaxed and rejuvenated from a facial. Top Notch! I will be going back for this repeatedly.

Omg DO NOT get a massage by the older man!!! His hands were rough and he insisted on trying to rub…read moremy feet and back with no lotion or oil and wanted to scratch my head and neck with his nails.. hard! I felt like he was taking out his anger on me, for I don't know what because we didn't really speak. I love a firm massage but this was way too painful. I left hurting more than when I went in. Every time I told him it was hurting he said it needs to hurt because I have knots. He would ease up and then go back at it with all his force, primarily with his elbow. He seemed to be more focused on massaging my gluts which made me uncomfortable as I came in for a shoulder and back massage. I only went for 30 min and was dying for it to be over because it hurt so much. By that evening my entire back was blotchy with bruises from the massage that I had to soak in Epsom salts and couldn't sleep all night from the pain. 2 days later my back is still sore to the touch and the bruises are even darker .... NEVER AGAIN! This is what I get for going for the cheap convenient place in the mall.
