    Empanada flavors.
    Aaron B.

On point. All 3 flavors were amazing. Sauces were good too. The BBQ. Pork was my favorite. 2nd was the Chicken Pesto, 3rd was the Beef Criollo. All were amazing amd the prices were way cheaper than other food trucks serving the same thing.

First of all, Grumpy Gaucho is one of the cutest names ever. Now that that's out of the way, this empanada food truck is mostly serving the 'burbs and I was able to try them at the Naperville Ale Fest over the weekend. Prices aren't bad at $2.50 and they are served piping hot and tasting great! They have many of the typical empanadas types plus some more unique & fun flavors. Try the Chicken Pesto - it's on point with chicken, pesto and a few kinds of cheeses.

    Dining room open until 2pm.

I had the Majadito which is a beef/steak rice with eggs, plantains, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. A relatively simple dish when described, but the combination of flavors was delightful. And a big portion I ended up bringing some home to have for breakfast the next day. My uncle had the asada en olla, a roasted beef stew with rice that had my uncle pausing repeatedly to comment how delicious it was. And he is less of a foodie than I am, so for him to comment like that was a big compliment. We shared some steak and chicken empanadas. A bite of empanada with some of their house made hot sauce is a bite of heaven. Service was so sweet and kind, attentive but in a respectful way. This is truly a family run spot and I felt like I was a guest in their home being given a home cooked meal made with love. The restaurant is clean and cozy. The bathrooms included. And there is plentiful street parking in front and the surrounding areas. A gem in the suburbs that shouldn't be hidden. While I always look for them at the markets, I will definitely be back to this place.

It comes with a black bean chipotle patty burger. Toppings include arugula, mozzarella which I left off, mushrooms, and onions. Among the sides are fries. There's also salads. For sure it was better than expected. It's located in the strip mall with the other Mexican restaurant. There's a few options for vegetarians.

There are vegetarian options - vegetarian panini, spinach/cheese empanadas; papas con huancaina, (delicious Peruvian cheese sauce) and apparently if you ask, she'll make something like the beef sandwich with tofu. I got two spinach/cheese empanadas, a chocolate alfajor (several flavors available); a key lime tart, a pavlova, and some chicha morada. I've never seen pavlova in a bakery; she filled a meringue shell with cream and fruit, and it was indeed delightful, certainly worth coming back for in spring when strawberries/fresh fruit is at its peak. The alfajor was crisp/crumbly and not too sweet; the empanadas are baked, not fried, and she warmed them up. It's more spinach than cheese, but quite respectable. The key lime pie was also respectable, with a crumbly crust; the filling was tasty but more of it would be good. The owner was super helpful, walking me through my options and noting that unfortunately yes, most of the cheesecakes have gelatin in them. I'll certainly be back to try her huancaina, get some more cookies, and maybe snag an Inca Cola.

They did have tvs and music videos going off the entire time, which added the to the vibe. I loved everything we ordered. The drinks were AMAZING! I loved the fact you can get their cocktails on the rocks or frozen! definitely enjoyed the tamarind drink!! To start we were given chips and salsa, this is how I knew the food was going to be good. I could have drank the salsa to be honest! We had the sopecitos trio and it was delicious!! my favorite was the arrachera with the chimichurri- literally to die for. We also got the Molcajete leña y mar and it was spectacular. My mouth was watering as soon as it hit the table. It had a mix of everything the steak, chorizo, cheese, shrimp- I loved it all!! We weren't planning on getting dessert, but we saw that the churros came in the carrito and we couldn't resist! Such a cute way to present the dessert, really felt like a celebration! I will definitely be back!!!
