They have cabinet after cabinet filled with all kinds of baked pastries, from cakes to pies, donuts and breads, croissants and cookies..and several others. I bought $33 worth of bread, when I got home 35 minutes away I noticed I was missing some bread. When I called the cashier said I forgot it, I was like how's that you handed me the 2 bags. She never apologized, just kept saying it was my fault, wow really. If it wasn't for it being day of the dead bread I had boasted about to the kids I wouldn't have driven back there the next day.. Upon picking it up she's like, "O heres the bread you left behind" really not an I'm sorry, when it's clear that they bag it piece by piece and she left that 3rd bag behind the counter.. very poor service read more

This is the second business in Aurora I tried where not a single person speaks English. I speak four languages; Spanish just isn't one of them. The lady there spoke no English whatsoever, wasn't able to help me, and was unsuccessful in getting one of the bakers from the back to help me. I basically just took a chance on some of the items I bought because I was on my way to visit some friends and didn't want to show up empty-handed. The few items I tried were OK, not phenomenal. Prices are low, so it's definitely a place for value. If you speak Spanish, this might be the place for you. If you don't, be prepared to know what you're there for or leave disappointed. read more

The bakery is virtually loaded with a variety of hot, sweet and sticky choices displayed in wooden bins for your shopping convenience. Everything the other two said!!!!! Christina....not sure if she's the owner...but she has always treated me the same way she treated Kate! She is delightful!! She also introduced me to their tamales and they are to die for!! And at a buck a piece...what a treat! When the weather is a little warmer, grab a few and lunch it at Phillips Park Sunken Gardens. It's only about a 5 minute drive from the bakery! Everything about this place is great.....tons of fab and fresh baked goods and tamales out of this world.... And they decorate for all the holidays. La Central - The pepper one...but they're ALL to die for!!!! - Bakeries Near Me - Aurora, Illinois

I drove right past La Central thinking, "haven't I been here?" but as I turned into the parking lot, I noticed that La Central is located right next door to another bakery. After visiting La Central, I found that I much prefer them to the place next door. It's smaller and simpler. Like many Mexican bakeries, grab your tray and tongs and go! Nothing is labeled, but sometimes I like the element of surprise. They have empandas, pan, cookies, doughnuts, and cakes. I grabbed a few empanadas and other items and spent a whole $3 on enormous, tasty pastries. The best ones were the cream-filled empanada and a pastry that looked like a flaky cinnamon twist. It had layers of crunchy cinnamon inside. I wasn't too crazy about the pineapple empanada though. The lady behind the counter was friendly and tried to converse with me in Spanish. I don't think it worked out as well as she had hoped. I only understood about every third word, but she smiled and laughed - I think she gave me credit for at least trying. La Central is a perfect stop for dessert after visiting any of the tacquerias in downtown Aurora. read more

I went with La Central for our wedding cake, we paid the deposit approx 3 months before the wedding and sent pictures to the baker to make our cake. 3 days before the wedding our coordinators called them to see the update on the cake and they told us they never had the pictures and didn't know what type of cake we wanted? I called La Central up and was told they didn't have a picture and that it was going to be an extra $60 for buttercream, luckily I still had my receipt, which I was already quoted buttercream. Even after all of this, when I showed up to pay for the cake they still tried to charge me more for the buttercream! And they delivered the cake late to the wedding! read more

I always thought it was weird that there would be two mexican bakeries next to each other but I prefer the more humbler unassuming one. They are quite friendly and the head baker, Efrain was willing to work with me to get exactly what I need. Pricing is reasonable too. I bought a roll and concha pan dulce and coffee all for $1.22. I heard a claim that La Central Bakery has the best tamales in Aurora. We tested that claim today and were happy to declare them the frontrunners in our tastings thus far. The green and red varieties were both delicious, though our green tamales were the last ones of the day, and they were mostly masa and sauce. Even so, they were awfully tasty. We'll just get there earlier next time. The woman running the store was delightful. As we were perusing the various baked goods, trying to contain the drool, she mentioned that they made tamales. One of my companions said, "That's why we're here!" The woman disappeared for a few minutes, returning with a fresh tamale and a few forks so we could try it. She answered all of our questions cheerfully and sent my preschooler away with an extra cookie for the road. The service sets La Central way above its snooty neighbor to the east, La France. The baked goods all looked fresh and colorful. It was difficult to choose our purchases. The regular and custard-filled chocolate donuts were a hit with all who tried them, and the sugar cookies were outstanding. Not too sweet, not too bland. Crumbly, but in a good way. The cake we tried was pretty good, and I cannot wait to return for some of the tres leches cakes we saw in the cooler. This is a carry-out operation. The storefront is very, very small, but it's clean and full of intoxicating aromas. We got a dozen tamales, 2 donuts, a slice of cake and a sugar cookie for about $16. We will return. I was fantasizing about the beloved concha of my childhood when I thought...hey...I live in Aurora...Aurora ought to have a great panaderia! So I searched yelp and decided on impulse to get my pregnant ass off the couch and give La Central a try. The bakery is nondescript without a storefront sign as far as I could tell, but I knew I had the right address. I walked into the familiar format of a panaderia. You pick up a tray and a set of tongs and shop away. This place didn't have prices like my childhood panaderia, but I didn't worry about that. Ah ha! I have found you my dear concha! Picked up two, very large chocolate ones. Through a couple of other familiars onto my tray...a sprinkle cookie and a cream filled cone. Then browsed a little longer so I could try a couple of new pastries: cream cheese filled muffin and jelly filled donut, just for the heck of it. I read on yelp that this place sold yummy tamales for a dollar each...score...breakfast and lunch all in one clean sweep. The offer pork, chicken and pepper cheese. I got the pork and chicken. Everything I got added up to $6.40 (I paid with credit card.) The staff spoke both Spanish and English, so they were able to answer my questions about pastry fillings. Okay...the verdict: Conchas were good, but not as great as my childhood conchas. I preferred the chicken over the pork tamale. The cream cheese "muffin" shaped pastry was yummy! It's really not a muffin at all, just shaped like a muffin. The muffin shape is more of a shell, similar to a buttery, crumbly pie crust. So stoked to have found a great little panaderia in downtown Aurora to support! read more

When I moved out west, I feared that I would be losing some of the really cool panaderias that were abundant closer to Chicago. La Central eased my winter splurge. They didn't have champurrado (I guess it's a street car thing), but their pan dulce selection was great. The breads are fresh and the selection is quite authentic. The ladies working here are very friendly, too. If you're thinking of brining donuts to work, this place is a great alternative to the same ol' stuff. I work right near here and I stopped in on a whim because of the beautiful cakes in the window. I remembered that it was my Grandma's birthday on Saturday. I ordered her a chocolate cake with strawberries. I nearly did a double take when they told me 25$. That is super reasonable for a custom cake of that quality. We went in and picked up a Tres Leches cake with strawberries, and it is probably one of the best cakes we have ever had! Such a welcoming and friendly staff (probably the owner). Great things come in little packages. This bakery has a huge selection of cookies doughnuts pastries cakes oh my! The guy at the front desk was nice. I went there to try the tamales everyone was talking about. I went and they said they only sell them on the weekends. I just went ahead and bought a red velvet cupcake and a cookie monster chocolate cupcake. The guy raved at how amazing they were. I gave the cookie monster cupcake to my son and he liked it(he likes anything sweet). My husband and I tried the red velvet cupcake and it was dry. Not very good at all. I called the next weekend to try the tamales in hopes they are better than the baked goods. They said they aren't selling them this weekend, try again next weekend. I pretty much give up.
