Grumpy's is among the best mechanic business I've dealt with. They are easy to get ahold of - they actually answer the phone and respond to Facebook messages. I switched to them specifically because I had heard good things about them and my previous guy rarely would answer the phone or respond to emails. They got my truck in quick for some minor maintenance and turned it around in record time. They checked on a couple other things that might be due, and gave me a fair quote on those too. The check engine light came on and I noticed reduced power in my Ram diesel pickup. After being told the diagnostic would be $150 I dropped the truck off at Grumpy's Diesel Service in Cantonment, FL. I was told it needed a new turbocharger and the cost would be $8,400 plus the possibility of an additional $2500 if a nox sensor had indeed failed also. Although I was mentally prepared for the 8 grand, I was not prepared for the news that it would take three weeks to repair. When I asked why so long I was told it would be a week to get the parts then two weeks to do the job. When I pressed as to why it would take two weeks to do a twelve hour job she replied they can't just work on my truck. They would work on mine a while then work on other vehicles for a while. I declined repairs and was shocked when the $150 diagnostic was actually $176.84. They padded the bill with $10 of "shop supplies" (aren't supplies a part of doing business?) and $4.50 HM fee plus sales tax. I drove the truck 325 miles to the Ram dealer in Chiefland, FL (where I'd had maintenance done previously) with no isssues other than it didn't have enough power to get out of its own way. I dropped it off at 8am on a Monday morning and later that day they called and said an actuator had failed, the turbo was fine. After informing the service advisor I needed to get back to my rv in Pensacola due to family medical issues he said they could overnight the part for an additional $200. Even so i was pleasantly surprised when the dealership called at 11am the next morning and said the truck was ready. Cost? $3800. I was "home" shortly after dark with a properly functioning truck. I will never set foot in Grumpy's Diesel Service again even if my truck stops running at their doorstep and I recommend you seek repairs elsewhere also. read more

I do NOT recommend this place at all. brought my truck here for a battery code, get my truck back and the oil dipstick tube was completely out of the oil pan leaking oil everywhere and ran my truck dry of oil. Competence and honesty is what everyone desires with mechanics, and I can tell you with certainty that one of those was lacking when they checked out my truck. When I was quoted 3,800 (granted they gave me the quote before they started working on the truck so that I would know what the worst case scenario was), I couldn't do the service. I went home and did my own work on the truck and realized that they were either incompetent or they had lied to me, because the "problem" they said I had was literally not there, so any work they did on my truck would have been nugatory, unnecessary. They either lied about this issue or they are just incompetent and didn't have the time to actually see what the issue was before trying to get me to pay for 10hours of labor. I want to believe them but I can't go back after that. Take me to the freakin Ford Dealer. read more

Grumpy's worked on my husbands truck. They fixed the issue as well as an unseen one. I had to pick up his truck that I'm not used to driving. They had it parked to where I could just pull on out. That was a huge relief for me. They were very friendly and even put up with me. I'm a morning person & can be quite chatty. read more

There is a reason that they have tons of diesel trucks parked outside... Simply because they can handle anything from oil changes to compete engine rebuilds. I took my 05 dodge there and common problem that is expensive happened... 1 and 6 piston rings fried and there was some gouging on the walls. They honed all the cylinders, replaced all rings and the 2 bad pistons. They worked with me and kept good contact and replaced my turbo which was shot too. Brian is a stand up guy and took care of me and it's the only place I'll trust and take my truck too when I can't handle the problem. If you own a diesel and need work done on the engine, this should be the only place you go. read more

After a particularly frustrating turbo fix with a local dealership (who were good sports BTW), they sent the truck to Grumpy's and the problem behind a troublesome engine warning light was promptly diagnosed (an issue that stumped the sister Ford dealership). read more

I had a top notch experience with Holly and the team at Grumpy's today. I broke down on Sunday on the interstate just across the state line into Alabama in my 7.3 Excursion (towing a trailer), my usual mechanic seemed to think it was a water pump. Wasn't able to speak with anyone at Grumpy's as it was a Sunday, so on a leap of Faith, I got towed over to Grumpy's and left it with a note explaining the situation, what it most likely was, and that I would be waiting at a hotel until it was finished. After speaking to Holly at 8am and going over the problem, I was so very pleasantly surprised when she called me back at 11:30am to let me know it was ready to go, all fixed up with a new water pump and thermostat. Couldn't have been more pleased with results. Far exceeded my hope of getting it back by the end of the day fingers crossed. They took excellent care of me and my vehicle and took into consideration my extenuating circumstances. Thank you very much Grumpy's, made it to Austin TX on schedule! read more

My vehicle broke down in the middle of summer (100 degrees) right in front of their store, I requested some help and they told me everyone was busy. I told them I wanted to see if a mechanic would be able to help me for pay, they said they don't work on gas vehicles. So I waited for 1.5 hours for a tow truck while they stayed "busy". So besides being careless people, I drive by this place everyday and their company drivers are constantly driving crazy to pull into their lot... slowing traffic down and making Florida moves from left lane all the way to a sharp right hand turn. I can tell these are trashy individuals who don't care about anyone. read more

I was heading out of town with camper and my truck had issues starting, then the check engine light came on. Stopped by with no call or appointment and they managed to work me in and figure out what was going on. Found out that some sort of animal had tried to make a new home and chewed on a set of wires. They diagnosed and fixed within an hour and 1/2 and I made it out of town. I do not recommend stopping by like this and know they stay pretty busy, but I could not be more appreciative or thankful for the great service. read more

We took our dodge diesel to grumpy's and after $2500 and two weeks later we got our truck back. It broke down again a few days later. We were first quoted $2300, then a week later came the dreaded phone call that they found another issue. Since they had our truck already they knew they had us. We've heard so many people since then say how they'll never bring their diesel to them. Grumpy's just called me to find out what happened to our truck which shows their commitment to their customers and their customers complaints. This review has been way overdue, I have to say a big thanks to grumpy's. When my water pump in my 6.4 went out I went crazy trying to figure out where I was leaking coolant. I narrowed it down to either the pump or front cover leak and took it to grumpy's. The gentleman up front by the name of West was very courteous and helpful and called me with timely updates. When he called to ask for authorization to work on the pump I was surprised to learn that they only charge $98 an hour for a factory trained powerstroke tech (I know world ford is 130-150 an hour). $700 bucks later and I drove off happy with an brand new pump and no sign of any leaks. There's a reason their driveway is packed with powerstrokes, they definitely earned my business. read more

We called ahead to verify an estimated time frame for someone to look at our truck. The lady I spoke with, quoted someone would be able to take a look by Friday after lunch. We made special arrangements to drop the truck off at that time. They failed to mention they were CLOSED on the weekends. By the end of the day Monday, after a series of poor excuses, not one mechanic had looked at our truck. The new estimated time was Tuesday or Wednesday. Do these people not understand how valuable time is to small business owners that rely on their truck for every day use? We have had quite a bit of experience dealing with diesel mechanics over the years, this business is the worst yet! Don't take your truck here, unless you have PLENTY of time to spare! read more

If it was possible to give "0" stars I would. This place is just awful. They used to be the premiere place for diesels in the area, now not at all. We had a problem with our truck and had to have it towed in. We called ahead and spoke to a service rep. We were told no problem, get it in as soon as possible and they would start on it in the morning. The next day came and we finally called at the end of the day. We were told that they had 30 vehicles ahead of ours even though we were originally told that it would be taken in right away. They promised that it would be next for diagnosis, first thing in the morning. Well, the next day came and went and we called and we were told that they were in the process of working on it and diagnosing the issue. After no call AGAIN we called back and were told that they had 16 vehicles ahead of us. After all of the different stories, my husband pressed to see what they had found out since they were supposedly diagnosing. They admitted that they hadn't even touched our truck yet!! They lied and for almost a week, our truck sat there, untouched. We have two vehicles and 4 kids and jobs. One vehicle is a huge inconvenience to us and I understand if they are working on it or having a back log. However, they repeatedly LIED to us about the status of our truck. They even lied to get us to send it there vs to another shop. We have had to send it to another shop because they STILL couldn't even tell us when they would even start looking at it. We have over $200 in towing bills alone BEFORE repairs because of these liars. I used to work at a dealer as a service writer. It is common sense management that you diagnose truck asap and then get authorization for repairs immediately. The lag should never be in diagnosing! This place is run horribly. If they will lie about this, what else will they lie about when it comes time to taking your money. DO NOT TRUST THEM. I am out over $200 because of their lies!! I wanted to go back and update this review because my original assessment may have been a bit unfair in the heat of the moment. I did get a few valuable services from Grumpys for my $130 diagnostic fee. Not only did they hook up a code reader to the truck and spray some brake cleaner around the engine bay, they also gave a professional mechanics assessment of my fuel gauge reading (it was low), so I know with such intensive professional diagnostics they were surely hot on the trail of the cause of my intermittent stalling issue. It is true that I declined to have my oil cooler worked on at the shop, but that is only because the real issue was a worn seal on a high pressure stand pipe. I am sure that would have been the very next thing they would have checked on right after finishing $2000 worth of unrelated work elsewhere on the engine.
