It was quite expensive for what it was. For two turkey sandwiches (with no side), a loaf of bread and two squares it was almost $50! The sandwiches were mediocre. The ingredients and bread were all fine - but that's it, just fine. Definitely not worth the price - it would have been $3-$4 cheaper to get a hamburger than it was a plain turkey sandwich. It was a hit and a miss - we'll keep going back for a sweet treat but in the nicest way possible you can get a much better and cheaper lunch elsewhere.

Our resident vegetarian even made an exception and tried some. Even something as unassuming as a grilled cheese sandwich? The BEST grilled cheese I've ever had. Delicious cheddar, perfectly grilled to the crispiest, crunchiest, tastiest, yum level ever. I'd tell you about my son's burger but he inhaled it so fast I couldn't get an accurate description other than it was "10/10, would eat again." And they had ice cream! Though we were full. Others stopped by just for that. If you're on the way to Peggy's Cove or on the way back, you HAVE TO STOP HERE. Oh, we had some cherry square/bar that was great

Tunisian Dude specializes in street food, with a very lean menu that's comprises of a handful of sandwiches. Their stuffed baguette piqued my interest and I hunkered down to eat at the bar seating by their front window, taking in the suburban sights of Herring Cove Road. While waiting for my food, I saw the very affable, patient owner handle some older, less adventurous eaters through the menu and I was impressed with his people skills, all the more so since I'm not sure they're something I possess anymore after many blessed years of not being in customer service. When I got my sandwich, it was a sight to behold - thin, crisp bread was absolutely *crammed* with beef (chicken and tofu versions are also available), cheese and sautéed veg. The earthy seasoning was flavourful but still very approachable, and my selected level of spice (3 out of 5) had a pleasant zing without overshadowing the other flavours. This is an absolute hot mess of a sandwich, in the very best way! A small side of fries was of the coated variety, and while some good hand-cut fries are always preferred, these were a safe bet and still hit the spot. Tunisian Dude may be off the beaten path, but you're got to try this this unique restaurant slinging some delicious Tunisian bites!

Prices are in line with other dining establishments in its genre. On to the food -- My spouse ordered seafood chowder and said the broth in particular had tremendous flavor. It was filled with haddock, 2 scallops, 4 mussels, and a bit of lobster along with potatoes, carrots, celery and onions. A tiny biscuit came with the chowder, which was a little disappointing. I ordered the scallop and pea risotto which offered an explosion of flavor in every bite. The creamy risotto came fused with mint and a dotting of fresh peas, and the 5 scallops topped with crème fresh and mini radish sticks and fresh pea pods added texture. Service was spot on, and since we did not have reservations yet were the first to enter when the establishment opened in the evening, the staff graciously gave us a 90-minute window to enjoy our meal. If we vacation in this quaint town again, The Canteen definitely will be among the first eateries we visit.

The scallop linguini was amazing, featuring Adams & Knickle scallops, Oulton's smoked bacon, arugula, garlic, and Parmesan. The combination of fresh local scallops with the smoky bacon and greens was absolutely delicious. Love seeing local ingredients showcased this well! Their lobster roll was also one of the best we've had. Great seasoning with tarragon, mayo, celery, and greens, all tucked into a homemade roll. Simple, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The seafood linguini was basically Nova Scotia on a plate... loaded with scallops, mussels, and shrimp. We absolutely loved it... although it could have used just one more local ingredient: lobster! And then there was the linguine limone, which was another standout. Bright, fresh lemon zest with toasted pine nuts made for a fantastic pasta. By the end, there was absolutely no room for dessert which is probably a good sign of how much we enjoyed the meal! Great local ingredients, generous portions, and delicious seafood. A must-try when visiting Lunenburg.

Had to wait about 20 minutes before got the call to come on down. They have something for everybody - sandwiches, pizza, proper seafood dishes. Had scallops and linguine. Definitely would come back in future!
