Good Shepherd Penn Partners Bryn Mawr office is the smallest PT location locally and seems to be for people needing more specialized, hard-to-find types of outpatient PT treatment. My review is based on my own experience and word of mouth from organizations to which I belong. It is an extremely busy office. The front desk staff are great. The credit card readers don't always work for your co-pay. The property management seems no-show at this multi-floor medical building. Their singular elevator is sometimes out of service. The floor is grimy and sticky at times under PT patients' feet. The power goes out in the building with storms. The patients are mostly quiet, polite, older patients who are struggling to find specialized PT options locally due to a lack of PT Specialists. The PTs are the busiest of any practice and seem overscheduled, naturally. Some of the PTs are great. Some are not. Professionalism and sensitivity with patients seem optional for PTs at most locations who have been with Good Shepherd a long time. Job burnout? The problem is Good Sheperd Penn Partners (including Bryn Mawr office) does not regularly email patients patient satisfaction feedback forms the way PennMedicine does in providing patients a collective voice in their care. Good Sheperd should email several patient feedback forms to patients during the PT treatment period and after so that unhelpful patterns can be adjusted. As it currently stands patients collectively have less of a voice in their care at Good Shepherd Penn Partners Physical Therapy. read more

The policies are not in favor of the patient. I had three areas that needed treatment and so was instructed by GoodShepherd that I would not schedule two separate appts for eval, when I arrived for the first visit they were able to evaluate everything! Fast forward 4wks of 2day/wk with no no-show. Holiday comes and I mix up the days. My mistake. Policy says can't miss 2. I call. SAME DAY. Well guess what, the 2nd eval appt was counted as a no-show even though I already had everything eval'ed and wasn't told I still needed to attend. So they DISCHARGED M IN THE SAME HOUR OF THE APPOINTMENT. They then let me schedule an appointment, then called me 20 min before to say, "WE CAN'T SEE WITH A NEW PRESCRIPTION" Even though the missed appointment was THE DAY BEFORE! read more

Sorry to say that I was very disappointed with their service. I had a fine therapist the first time, who gave me several exercises to do with a stretchy rubber pulley thing, but the second visit the PT couldn't even be bothered to watch me do exercises that were more simple than what I was given by the 1st PT. I just used the exercises from week one at home, and they fixed my shoulder pain. No, I would not go back. The 1st PT told me she was leaving the practice, so that's why I got stuck with the loser. I have to agree with others on this site. I tried to get an estimate upfront and run the numbers to figure out how much my therapy would cost. I was unable to obtain one. When completed two sessions here i got a bill in the mail that i owe 1400 dollars. This means they charged me 700 dollars/hour. I think this is ridiculous and even if your insurance does pay i recommend avoid this at all costs. Bottom line it is impossible to get an estimate what it will cost so be safe rather than sorry read more

I liked my therapist, HOWEVER, it was crazy expensive. When I question my first bill (which was almost $4000 for 3 sessions) I was told the prices were set by the insurance company. In total after 7 sessions my out of bill pocket was over $2,500. I can not go back! read more

My husband went here after a knee surgery and even though the therapy he actually received was fine everything else has been a total nightmare. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Avoid. What started with a simple incorrect billing (which is common in my experience) has turned into a nearly year-long saga of horrible service, ignored messages, and staff who have no ability to help. Instead of working with us when a bill was clearly incorrect, they sent us to collections for the full and incorrect amount. Now, even though we have paid (more than we owed!) to get the debt collectors to stop calling, Penn Partners is now are completely ignoring all messages regarding 1) telling collections the bill has been paid, and 2) refunding us the amount we overpaid. Even when we get lucky and call when someone helpful answers the phone, whatever help they promise ends up with an unreturned voicemail (the manager never answers the phone). We even got the managers direct line today and of course it's disconnected. I hope others can learn from our mistakes and take their business elsewhere. read more

Sub-par PT at outrageous cost. They billed me $600 for literally 2 minutes of demonstrating 2 exercises. When I pointed out that $18,000/hour seemed a bit steep they said that was the negotiated rate with my insurance company. In all I was billed $2,600 or so for 2 appointments that ended up causing actual harm (re-aggravated a fracture) The "therapist" at Good Shepherd gave me his personal guarantee that I could go back to running right away with no risk of harm. Luckily I disregarded that nonsense because it turned out I had a partially torn ACL as well as the stress fracture (both of which could have become much more serious had I gone running on them) Do yourself a big favor and avoid this place. You can get very good, actual physical therapy for one tenth of the cost almost anywhere else. read more

My mom almost died after two days being there. The nursing station hangs up on you and the nurses give you inaccurate information.

When you come here - expect to wait and wait and wait and wait. I had an 11:15 appointment and i wasn't seen until 11:50 - i literally had to go up to the nurse and be like "hi did you forget about me?" the time before when i had an apt for my annual i also had to wait 30 mins after my appointment. either way my doctor rules and she def helped me. the staff is nice. i guess patience is a virtue. read more

I am so disappointed that I did not heed the advice of the majority on this. I did two appointment and got a huge bill. When I called for an explanation she essentially told me it's not her problem and if I don't understand I need to call my insurance. Not worth wasting your time and energy. I have Elsa as my physical therparist. She spends about 45 minutes with me. She is very nice and gives me different exercises to do. They are the only PT department that does the PT that I need. (For my jaw). So I had no choice but to go here. The front desk is very nice as well. I have had no problems with this place read more

Many of the bad reviews are from people who had to pay out-of-pocket expenses. That sucks and is a huge problem with the healthcare industry in general. My experience was positive, in part, because insurance covered it. I stayed here two weeks to recover some of my leg function after I was hit by a car. I made substantial physical progress and increased my confidence. I have PT/OT to thank for that. They clearly know what they're doing and were able to push me without making me feel uncomfortable. Nurses and staff were absolutely wonderful. The CNAs all deserve raises as far as I'm concerned. This was the most responsive and helpful team I've seen. Every CNA I dealt with was nice -- they listened to my needs and made me feel comfortable in embarrassing situations. Several even encouraged and congratulated me when I made progress, which felt great. But all the staff was pleasant, including food service and house keeping. Nurses Nicole, Jake and Bill, and Shakella were my favorites, they all went out of their way to be helpful. My biggest complaint was the food. I get that it's a hospital, but still. When you're recovering from an injury for weeks (months for some) you should be able to get healthy food. I'm vegetarian and they had little to no options for me most of the time, and I tried to be flexible. Vegetables came from a freezer bag and were basically inedible. The doctors told me to eat a nutritious, high protein diet. To do so, I had to ask my boyfriend to bring me food. My discharge was also chaotic and poorly explained. All things considered though, I thought this place was effective and comfortable. Great staff. read more

My cousin is staying here for rehab. At first because of her age (20's) she was allowed 2 visitors at a time. That changed and it was only one at a time. Her mother and father are still together so this was hard on them both. They then changed her visiting hours from 9a-9p to 3p-9p. My cousin had a stroke and was not as mobile as she use to be, she was suffering from anxiety as well due to being away from family so much. So we purchased her a tablet. We found it on Amazon, its great for patients like my cousin, because it automatically answers calls for her. Her parents and friends can video call her and she can be able to see them with no issues. The staff starting tossing things over the tablet, and then a supervisor stated it was not allowed. They stated that recording was not allowed, even though we explained it was a live feed, like FaceTiming. We explained that the tablet allowed us to work around their visitation rules, while offering reassurance to my cousin so she didn't feel alone. We were told it was personal devices were not allowed, when we asked for their policy they would not provide one, then they stated it was a HIPAA violation, but my cousin is in a room by herself. Then we were told it was because it wasn't on a secure network. This happened at 10pm at night, even though we requested multiple times to discuss it in the morning with the administrator because the conversation was upsetting my cousin. They said they would change visiting hours, and put their own monitor in her room at all times. Changing visiting hours and jeopardizing the health of other patients (this is what we were told when they said only one of us were allowed in at a time), it really feels like they have something to hide. Whats the difference if my cousin were able to sit up and use FaceTime on her phone or tablet by herself? This place is unprofessional and shady. read more

I was a big fan of everything there. My husband had a cardiac arrest and was on a ventilator and feeding tube for a couple months before being discharged to a rehab center of our choice ( myself and my children because at that point my husband was non-verbal ) After visiting several rehab centers we chose Good Shepherd Penn Partners and by far, it was the best choice. Staff, facility, everything was fabulous. Be sure to visit each place first, and not just for a couple minutes. read more

I can't really speak to the level of care-seemed average- as I only had two visits,and due to an unrelated emergency,I suspended my care and my low back spasms resolved on their own.My consternation involves the rapacious pricing structure.For an initial evaluation and two follow-up visits.Total time spent there,under (2) hrs.They billed $1375-of which $965 was approved by Blue Cross(still absurd)and since I hadn't met my deductible I have paid the bill.(And yes, they were in network.)Affordable care my ***.Lesson:ask ahead of time what things will cost,particularly if you have a spending account-type plan w/ a deductible.I sure would hate to meet the "Bad Shepherd". read more

I recommend you take your business elsewhere. They billed us as if they are a hospital outpatient even though that is not the case. We have paperwork from them clearly stating there is no deductible yet they are stating we owe 800.00 in deductibles. We were referred by our primary doctor for PT and they billet as Hospital outpatient therapy. After multiple conversations with multiple people nobody seems to care or want to remedy this. Absolutely horrible!! Good luck being able to actually call them. I have been a patient for several years now and am now getting ready to switch. The first doctor was fantastic but then she relocated with her husband to Florida. Since then I'm on doctor number two. If you like doctors that don't make eye contact, barely listen, and start prescribing treatment before you even answer their questions, then this is the place for you. If you enjoy an administrative staff that can give you that free-clinic experience then you will love Penn Medicine at Rittenhouse. If you enjoy finally getting an appointment to get your prescriptions renewed in February of 2013 and still trying to get them to actually call in the prescriptions in April of 2013 then please feel free to come to this office. There's a reason why the old Graduate Hospital went out of business and I think the ideals of customer service from Graduate Hospital are kept alive and well with Penn Medicine........enough said. read more

I was astonished to read the negative reviews here. My experience was exceptionally good. I've had 2 courses of physical therapy at Good Shepherd - in 2014 for long-standing back trouble. Scott was my therapist & my back has been fine ever since. Last year after a fall that wrenched my knee and broke a rib, the rib pain was so severe that I didn't recognize the damage to my knee and walked on it until i could no longer walk; Donna was my therapist, and she was assisted by a very capable senior student. I did not experience any billing issues. However, I get all my medical care in the Penn system, and have Blue Cross Personal choice 65 - a continuation of the employers' insurance I had at the time of retirement. PC65 is way more expensive than other Medicare choices (which is a different challenge), but BC has always taken the lead in clearing up billing issues I bring them and I've chosen to spend a high proportion of my limited disposable income on the peace of mind of knowing that my pre-existing conditions will never be an issue. read more

I went there with my back. The therapist was ok but their billing policy is awful. I was looking my bills and every meeting with the therapist was billed twice with two different codes. I called them and asked why and what. I got an explanation that they bill individual and group therapy at the same time, because may be when I am there the therapist is working with another patient as well. I called my insurance company wether it is legal, they told that Good Shepard has a contract like that with them. Ask there price before you go there, average place, highly overpriced. read more

I agree with the majority of the reviews. I got a bill for 500.00 stating it was for my deductible. They neglected to tell me I was being charged as an out-pt. hospital visit. I could have gone elsewhere for 100% coverage. I'm going to report this to Consumer Affairs and the Hospital Ethics Committee. read more

The service that is provided at Good Shepherd Rehab does not align with their core values of compassion, presence, empowerment, collaboration and accountability. The physical therapists are actually great. They keep detailed records and are willing to keep families informed, compared to the doctors. The nurses and CNAs are the problem. They are neglectful and borderline abusive. I've raised many concerns about my dad's hygiene and their attention to his bathroom needs. Many times, he is afraid to call for help because the nurses and CNAs yell at him. Additionally, they could care less if they violate HIPPA, and they get away with it. The nurse manager, Melissa Lattanzio is very rude and dismissive. Any requests will be met with hostility and accommodated begrudgingly. read more

My 17 year old son worked with Brian Cammarota and his associates at GSPP twice this year for a torn MCL and then a shoulder injury (GIRD). The team at GSPP worked with his school schedule and gave him meaningful exercises to do at home to stay on track with his rehab. As a baseball pitcher, GSPP was a perfect fit for our son, because Brian has expertise in treating arms, since he was a trainer for the Phillies. My son was always happy to go to the sessions and his progress was right on track for him to be able to resume his activities. I highly recommend GSPP!! read more

My loved one's been an inpatient for a few days now and I think the care has been fantastic! Approximately 5-6 patients per R.N., that alone it great. No complaints from me about this place. I'll keep you posted if I see anything wrong. read more

My sister recently passéd away from cancer. Three days before she died she had a nurse who cared for her that day and then discharged her. His treatment of her was a disgrace. Enough so that it had me in tears. He was cruel, rough and spoke to me like I was a real nuisance. I did something I've never done before and wrote a letter to his superior, the President of Penn and head of Hospice care. I explained all he did and how he mistreated her. I never heard back from any of the three I sent a letter to, not one response was sent. You would think they would at least have someone send something even if they didn't care! I do not believe my sister's cancer was treated properly but since I am not qualified to say, although I have spoken to doctors who are, I can't go into anymore detail. I do know she had so many scheduling problems it was so upsetting to her it was ridiculous! Also several years ago my husband went to a hearing doctor at Penn. The man spent roughly 5-10 minutes with him. He was rude and extremely cold. When we asked one question about a hearing aid he said you have to make an appointment and ask the audiologist. It was a simple question and he was ridiculously uncaring. My husband lost the hearing completely in one ear and 15% loss in the other and he was only in his 50s so it was quite upsetting. I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND PENN. Anyone who ever does go there PLEASE PLEASE get a second opinion. read more

I just finished physical therapy with Matt Mules who my orthopedist at Penn highly recommended and knows personally. I was very impressed by Matt! When I came to him, I was struggling with knee and ankle problems, pain, weakness, lack of strength and balance were all issues that were causing me the problems that I was dealing with. Matt designed a great therapy approach where I did a lot of things at the gym with my trainer that I hadn't been able to do before therapy with him, by the end of our therapy I started jogging, using the Stair Master and the Arc trainer at the gym without being in pain, I never thought that would have happened. Matt did give me some homework but he went over it with me when I was unclear and his approach is very realistic- to get me back to as many things possible without causing pain. I like his ideas to try out new things at the gym that I otherwise wouldn't have done! Matt is very nice, friendly and I can tell that he really cares about me and my progress. He's made himself available on the phone and through email and really wanted me to push myself to recover. It says a lot about Matt that my orthopedist and his physicians assistant speak so highly of him. It's great that they communicate with each other if an issue comes up. I really wish that I found Matt sooner, he has a great way about him and he really went above and beyond with scheduling and really cares about my getting better. I think the ladies at the front desk are nice but there seemed to be a lot of miscommunications with them regarding scheduling, I think that could be improved upon. Either way, I'm very glad to have worked with Matt and I plan to keep up with my exercises so I can stay pain free. I highly recommend him to others and if I need PT again, I'll definitely go back to Matt! read more

My mother was transferred her after being at the ICU in hospital. She was only there 2 nights and had to be transferred back to hospital. The nurses were non chalant did not appear concerned about the seriousness of my Mother's condition, did not communicate with one another. I do not recommend this place. Your loved one in my opinion is not safe here in the event of a medical emergency. read more

Re: Billing Dept. They don't work with you at all when it comes to payments. I have it set up so my bank pays Penn $25 faithfully every month (until my bill is paid off. My bal is now $175.) so that I am never behind. I have several other medical bills and I am trying to pay everyone something every month. Penn wants double what I am paying now or else they are putting me into collections. I told them It is not fair that I pay Penn more each month and another provider won't be able to get paid. Well- I am being put into collections, but I am still making my payments. Thank you for working with your patients Penn. : / read more

Do not walk into the door of this place unknowingly and I am not talking about service. This is not an outpatient practice but part of a hospital and you will have to cover your entire hospital deductible, if you have not already. They told me I did not have to pay anything and I was amazed that my Aetna Ins. covered it all. I now owe over 700.00 dollars. Secondly, they ask if I want the tens (electronic stim) unit and I say yes - not realizing they are charging another 150.00 to do it - no one told me or I would have gone home and used some ice. Of course, I called Aetna and then Good Shepard and was told that it was a hospital even though it was an office setting in an office building. They had given me a paper which I unfortunately did not examine as closely as I should - although I am unsure I would have realized that insurance would not cover it all. Since I have not been hospitalized this year - my deductible was not used. Even with Medicare, it is not covered because it is not in-patient hospitalization. This review is for Good Shepherd in general - I actually saw my PT at another site but they are not here on Yelp, and my major frustration was with the company, not the therapist. I wish I had read some reviews before going to Good Shepherd. I went there because they were tied to Penn, where my (fantastic) doctor works. And the therapist I had seemed quite competent - although in retrospect I wonder if I needed to have so many visits, since I felt greater improvement after I quit. But the two main things that made me unhappy are the costs (which I now see had to do with the hospital affiliation), and the absolutely horrible, inefficient, archaic, frustrating billing system. They have a web site but I was never able to get it take a payment. So then, there's nothing for it but to call the phone number on the bill. There are two phone numbers. Take your pick, because it's very unlikely you'll get anyone to answer either one. They are always "on the phone with other customers", but one of the few people I actually did speak to told me that they put the voice mail on when they go to lunch. Well they must have a heck of a lunch policy because I get voicemail at 3:00 in the afternoon. Bottom line: avoid. As another reviewer said, choose PT that is not affiliated with a hospital, even if you have a wonderful Penn doctor like mine. read more

The assistance was rude ,unprofessional and started yelling at me over the phone . I just hang up and will schedule with doc from jefferson instead . It's a shame but I have to agree with a couple of the other reviewers. To start off I walked here on my lunch break for my appointment. They were about 20 mins late which is extremely frustrating considering I have an hour break. Secondly I don't feel the physical therapist I saw was extremely knowledgable since I've learned more about my injury and how to treat it from youtube videos. Lastly this place is insanely overpriced and I'm just learning this now as I open my bill. I went in for a PT evaluation... that's it. My insurance company was charged nearly $300 for physical therapy on top of $775 for the PT evaluation. Mind you this is not what I was charged thanks to my insurance company but I'm still paying a percentage of that over priced bill. Like the other reviewers have stated you'd be best to find a PT doctor that isn't affiliated with a hospital. PS: I too had PT a another of their locations that is not listed here on Yelp. read more

I totally agree the 90% of the reviewers here. "Horrible" is the most suitable word to describe this Good Shepherd Penn Partner therapy place. They are greedy, deceiving, relentless when it comes to ripping the patients off. Here is a summary of what I think of them: 1) The cost of my physical therapy sessions provided by this provider were "hugely inflated" (quoted from the medical insurance company Aetna's representative when I complained this matter to Aetna over the phone). For a standard and simple physical knee therapy session, Good Sheppard was charging between five and ten times more than the average cost of the industry. Worse, I only found out that this rate was determined as "hospital rate" (even though no disclosure is given to the patients of their affiliation to the hospital until after the treatment) that was negotiated between the insurance company and the service provider without knowledge or input from the patient (though the patient is the one who receives the treatment and pays the bill). Can you imagine a charge of $500 to $700 for an average 40 min session exercise, sometimes, by an even inexperienced therapis?!! An obvious rip-off from the patients, isn't it? 2) The quality of the service provided by Good Shepherd is no better than other providers. The therapy procedures and exercise I received from my other therapist I later switched to were almost identical to what I received from Good Shepherd. But the cost was 10 times less than theirs! What justification is there for Good Shepherd to charge horrendous amount for a simple therapy session? 3) Throughout my seeking the treatment by calling both the provider and insurance company, no one told me or was willing to disclose Good Shepherd was affiliated to a hospital and their rate will be many times more than other service providers. The patient was totally left in the dark until it's too late for them to find out that they were being ripped off. From the time when I made the appointments with Good Shepherd and verified the status with the insurance company, I asked about the cost for the treatment, no one was giving me the answer and I was told that I would not have that information until after the treatment. This lack of transparency of the treatment costs and special treatment by the insurance company to the hospital affiliated services is extremely unfair. Aetna, the insurance company was just as guilty in this type of scheme to deceive and rip of the patients. They allow this "negotiated rate" for the hospital to share a big chunk of the profits exploited from the patients. I wonder where their conscience lies! I am very surprised how this type of practice can be tolerated and even existed. That's one of the drawbacks of our healthcare system allowing these parasites to thrive. i cannot even tell anyone what this place is like, because, having an appointment this thursday (the 19th of january 2017 at the time of this review), they called to cancel this morning (tuesday the 17th) because they will not take my insurance. i find the system completely broken and ridiculous that you cant even get fitted for a proper wheelchair some of the time, because they dont take your insurance, and money talks. read more

This is a review of the outpatient services provided by Good Shepherd Penn Partners, who saw my son for PT after his shoulder surgery. I would give less than one star if possible for their unscrupulous billing practices and the unprofessional way they handled our billing issues. When my son went for his visits they collected his insurance copays-so you would think that they had checked that our insurance would cover his care. Imagine the surprise when bills arrive for THOUSANDS of dollars of therapy, none of which helped anyway! Turns out my son had used all his therapy benefits. So why did they collect copays to make him think it was covered??!! He never would have incurred the expense of paying out of pocket. Since he is a student, I agreed to step in and help. Six months after his treatment ended and after many long holds and unreturned messages left, I finally spoke to someone and negotiated a settlement for his account. Now, a year later, they are sending additional bills saying they coded his visits as two separate accounts and the hundreds I payed them only went to one account. Their incompetency at keeping track of a patients account shouldn't be my problem and the person I negotiated with lied to me that I would be settling his account with what I paid them. STAY AWAY unless money doesn't matter to you. read more
