GT has a great selection of public safety equipment, reasonable prices, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. I've been a customer for about 3 years, and having shopped at other public safety product stores (and working for one many eons ago) in several states, GT is tops. They also have great sales quite regularly, usually for a given manufacturer's products (think 5.11 or Glock), and these guys know how to use social media (Twitter and Facebook specifically) to their customers' (and their own) betterment. I've made both departmental and personal purchases there and have never had the slightest problem, difficulty or unpleasantness. Consistently a very positive experience. Top score. Update 6/30/2010 Update to my update... I received a phone call yesterday from GT's Account Manager, Susan, who'd read my below update here on Yelp! She had looked into my situation, found the problem to be with an employee who needed a bit more training (issue was 5.11 was holding off on fulfilling a large order from GT until 75% or more of the ordered products were available; proper handling would have been for the employee(s) with whom I had spoken to request 5.11 to go ahead and ship my portion of the pending GT order, which I what I kinda thought all along....), and apologized profusely. She also offered to send me a small (eye of the beholder, but a reasonable amount) gift card as compensation for my less than stellar experience. Surprisingly, the card arrived today, the day after we spoke (especially surprising given the mail service here in Round Rock...) A good move, good customer service, good monitoring of social media, good research to match me up with my Yelp! identity; in other words, a nice recovery. GT is back on my "A" list for their handling of this. We all make mistakes; what distinguishes a good company from a mediocre (or worse) one is what they do when a mistake has been identified, and GT handled this right. Update 6/7/2010 Well, I have to write an update. As I normally do, I visited GT for their 5.11 sale on May 14th. I've been buying and wearing 5.11 gear since the days when their stuff was made for rock climbers. Great products and value, and the "5.11 Days" sales at GT can't be beat for price and 5.11 giveaways. As I usually do, I bought quite a bit of stuff. I had to remind the guy checking me out that part of the promotion was free packable windbreakers with purchase of pants (or boots, I don't remember which, I bought both.) The two different pairs of boots I wanted weren't in stock, and apparently are no longer normally carried in inventory, though they're available for order (even though they're shown on GT's web site, suggesting that they're stocked.) I was told they'd be happy to order them, and the discount would apply if I paid for them at time of order. I did so, and was told they'd be available for in store pickup in about a week. Well, they're not here yet, nearly a month later. I've been calling once a week to check order status. Before today, my last call was on May 28. I spoke to a couple different GT staffers who were very polite and helpful (excluding getting results...) I was assured that the boots would ship on May 29; 5.11 was actually having their staff work on that Saturday of a three day weekend to get caught up on shipments, and that the boots would be at GT for pickup by the end of the first week of June; and I'd get a phone call from them when they were in. Well, Friday came and no phone call. I called this morning, the young lady called 5.11 to check status, contrary to what I'd been told they didn't ship until 6/1 and are alleged to be arriving in the store later today. I'll find a new source for buying 5.11 boots at least. I've ordered directly from 5.11 in the past and never waited more than 5 days for a delivery of in-stock items (and GT confirmed that 5.11 had these boots in-stock back on May 14th when I ordered them; that's not an excuse.) I realize this was a small order, but I'm very disappointed with the time lag and the lack of followup. Basically, I've loaned GT several hundred bucks for a month or so. This store embodies everything about TX that I love. Great store, selection, prices, staff, etc. They have great sales, reach out to their cutomers through Facebook, etc. This is my favorite place to acquire new items for my bunker :-) Also, you are guaranteed to find a law enforcement vehicle from a department you never knew existed each time you visit GT. F***. Yes. Honestly for a San Antonian this might be a drive but who cares? Go to there. The staff here is smart. Their knowledge about their products goes way beyond reading a pamphlet. I am a LEO (Elected Constable) and an instructor for a police academy. I spent most of this week trying to order Force on Force (Simunition substitute) rounds for a large class I was SUPPOSED to teach next week. I called to place the order early in the week, and the customer service rep. made it sound like it was going to be fairly simple. Well, that's where the simplicity ended. After a few days, several phone calls, and several emails later, I'm having to cancel the class because... wait for it... THEY WOULDN'T TAKE MY MONEY! After I jumped through SEVERAL hoops because of their MULTITUDE of RIDICULOUS regulations, it came down to the order was ready to go, but they wouldn't take my credit card. I understand rules and regulations... until they trump COMMON SENSE! The skinny guys w the facial hair are bad too, they must have a major inferiority complex being they are hourly retail losers and deal with real heroes (law enforcement) everyday. Second Update: Susan from GT Distributors not only called me on Monday but called me again on Tuesday to tell me that my corrected order was en route to me. This was actually unnecessary because I saw the email notification for the shipment, but the extra attention paid to my problem counts for very much. I received my order when she promised it would get to me, and additionally there were a few thoughtful extra items (a pen, baseball cap, and lanyard) included in the package. Honestly the extra things count less for me than the proactive contact and Susan's obvious concern for my problem. I changed my rating for GT Distributors from an original 2 stars to now 4 stars, simply because I believe the good deserves to be rewarded just as much as the bad should be exposed. If you have occasion to deal with this business, I would say now that it's worth a chance. At least one person there cares about their good name. read more

I called to check the availability of a rifle, I even provided the UPC code for the rifle so there would be no confusion. I was told they had the rifle and they would hold it for me. I drove 2.5 hours(one way) to the Austin location. There they did not have the rifle I had ordered and tried to sell me a different rifle. They were VERY indifferent to the inconvenience they had caused me. I got the feeling their attitude was, this is what we have if you don't want it get out. If you don't have the rifle then say so don't bait and switch. I will never be back in that store. read more

Excellent place to get 5.11 Tactical clothing, flashlights, firearms, and various other public safety supplies. The staff are exceedingly knowledgable about the merchandise and are equally friendly. They usually have specials and/or promotional items to give away on 5.11 products. I'd give them a fifth star, but they are lacking on the emergency medical supplies and on non-5.11 uniform items, which makes this a great store for me, but still requires me to go other places for some of the things I need for my expensive EMS hobby.... read more

Radio ad claims a "big sale" and everything in the store is 15% off, except if for those items you want, and after standing in line they say "oh, no discount on that item as we can't make a profit if the discount I'd applied". In addition the prices advertised are not for the citizen, instead for the police force. Not worth standing in line for 25 minutes! read more

I was first introduced to GT's by a fellow shooting enthusiast also in the Navy. I was looking to buy a lower receiver and parts kit for an AR-15 and GT's had everything I needed for this job. That was over 3 years ago and I have been a faithful customer ever since. I have bought several guns at the store b/c they beat everyone in town with their prices. I continue going back - whether it is for clothes, magazines, ammo, parts, cleaning supplies, or just to look at the next gun I need in my collection. A primary reason to go back to this store over others in town is the staff they cultivate. The Sig armorer they employ is fantastic. He went out of his way to install my short-reset trigger right in front of me so I wouldn't have to come back. A couple of the other guys gave their valuable opinions on an Adams Arms gas-piston kit I later bought and installed myself on my AR-15. They also helped point me towards the right Daniel Defense rail to accommodate the gas piston conversion. If you are a fan on Facebook, you will catch sales that you would otherwise miss out on. I also recently discovered that they have 2 tailors on the premises that do a very good job of sewing on patches to my uniforms at a very reasonable price. Now I don't have to drive all the way South and get Miller's to do it . This place has everything you need, and I don't go anywhere else. read more

I purchased a gun online on the GT Distributors website on 07/16/2022 and had it sent to a local Academy for pick up and to fill out the paperwork. It is now 08/09/2022, and I have yet to receive the gun or a refund. Once I purchased the gun and sent proof of being in law enforcement, the ship date was 07/20, and pick-up was 7/22. I got a shipment notification it was delivered at Academy and signed for on 7/22 at 9:59 am. On 7/25, I went to pick up the gun at Academy, and after waiting an hour and a half for them to search for it, there was no gun delivered. I immediately called GT Disturbers the same day to inform them of the situation at hand; they were aware and investigating it. They told me they would call back as soon as they located the gun. I called every day from 07/26-08/04 just to be bounced around from person to person, not giving me clear information about the gun's location or what would happen regarding a refund. When I explained I wanted a refund, they said they could not process it until the missing gun was located. I understand on their end, but on my end, I am out $500 and no gun in my possession. There was nothing I could do about the gun, so why am I being outed my hard-earned money and being punished for not receiving the product? I spoke to an employee named Bradley on 08/04 that the gun was located and en route back to GT's, and he was supposed to call back the same day to let me know my refund was being processed. It is now 08/09, and I have yet to receive my refund. I personally feel as if they said they found it, so I would stop calling every day. This was supposed to be my first purchase with GT, and I have been very stressed and irritated with this company and its customer service. For a company that is supposed to support law enforcement, they should know we don't make the most money. I normally don't review places. I normally just never go back. After my bad experience I decided to wait a couple days to really think about writing this. My friend and I visited this place during their Glocktoberfest sale on Saturday. I was speaking to my friend near the gun counter about the guns they had available and our preferences in brand. It didn't take long for an employee to ask us if we needed help with anything. This part we didn't mind. The part that pissed me off is how this guy started to "educate" us on our opinions. This guy acted like he knew everything about every gun and our opinions were wrong. After vomiting his arrogance all over us, we left without buying the guns we came for. I'm not sure but I think his name was Robert or Rodger. Either way, he was the shortest one at the gun counter. He walked around like he owned the place and he had enough keys for everything. Instead of being rude and condescending, all he had to do was answer our questions and we would have bought something. This was not a good first experience for me. I'm not sure if I will visit again. This industry has too many "know-it-all's" and not enough people that are willing to help. Please keep in mind that this is a review on my experience on one day with one person. I hope the rest of GT isn't like this. After thinking more about my encounter, I really think he was trying to be helpful and had no clue how rude he was being. read more

The day after the Thanksgiving holiday. I was let go for several reasons from a temporary job that was supposed to go permanent. Most of the reasons I do not agree with especially the one that said that due to health reasons I do feel that Darla will not be able to do her job. By the way do not be honest with your boss is what I've learned from this! I've had a couple of doctors appointments and gotten in later from one than I thought I would. They had given me a Cortizone shots in both of my knees as we are trying to keep from having double knee replacement. Then I was told I did not take notes while I was there which is untrue I had a notebook full of notes. I was told I was not prepared or near where I should be for this job which was untrue. I could go on and will probably add another Yelp as this is certainly not a fair action to me and certainly illegal to fire somebody over health issues. There were other reasons which again I do disagree with and would like to raise those issues here but I won't. I do like a lot of the people there and will miss them. Thank you for the Merry Christmas my family will have due to this! I would like to put in into this review that the owners are SUPER Nice. I have nothing against them or them the company as a hole. A new customer to GT Distributors... Contacted them and narrowed my choice for a new Duty Pistol down to one. Placed the order and submitted requisite paperwork, but to my surprise 10 days later still no pistol. Called to check on the status, and although quite friendly and professional... 25 minutes on hold to find-out that someone dropped the ball and/or forgot to ship the pistol out. It's not like I have an urgent planned use, however our range time is limited and I now will likely have to wait a month or so to be able to qualify with the weapon. Initial impression of GT: Excellent product selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff, but they broke rule #1 of business in this economy: Never make someone who wants to hand you money wait. read more

They are not helpful and everyone acts like they don't want to work there - and they shouldn't. Nobody is friendly accept for the person checking you out at the front. I drove in from out of town to purchase a firearm and left with a t-shirt (thrown over my shoulder because Austin has outlawed the issuance of a bag?). So an update on my review. A couple of days after posting my review on Yelp I was contacted by one of the staff at GT. He stated he was sorry for my experiences and wanted to know how they could fix it. I responded to his message including suggestions on how to remedy my specific occurrences. A week later he contacted me again. I responded with more details, A few days later he responded by suggesting that next time I am in to work with him to avoid the problems that I experienced before. I responded that as I understood their response, it was come back again, spend more money with them, work with him and he'd try to make sure that I didn't get messed over again. No resolution to my previous experiences. They responded that is not what they meant and they were just trying to address my concerns. Again the request for more details. More details were provided. At this point they appeared more concerned that I was using a screen name for posting on yelp rather than addressing the issues brought forth. Although I have contacted the individual repeatedly over the last 10 days, I have not any response. So to followup: here it is four weeks since posting my initial review and getting contacted by the staff of GT. After rehashing the facts, of which none are in dispute, the situation is as described and they have confirmed my view on the shift of the customer service in the organization during the last 6 months. Based on other reviews on Yelp it sounds like as long as there is not a problem, people have a good shopping experience. If there is a problem (delay, misorder, fail to order or deliver, problem with merchandise) GT appears to fall down on correcting the issue. read more

Bought a GLOCK 23 from GT Distributors it was Delivered September 6, 2020. Bought this by Phone Sight unseen, Was told these were in Very Good Condition, that All Night Sights were removed from Police Trade in's because GT Dist. could not Guarantee Them so NEW Night Sight would have to be Installed. Sounded reasonable and I Was Not Expecting a Brand New Glock but Was Expecting a Glock in Very Good Condition. What I received was a Good Glock not Very Good, Very visible holster wear SURFACE RUST on the Barrel and Extremely Dirty. Night Sights Also Showed Holster Wear and By No means were these New Night Sights. After totally Field stripping and a thorough Cleaning this Glock to Remove Rust and what looked like years of shooting and not cleaning the weapon I Emailed GT Distributors Twice. that was in September still NO Answer from their Customer Service and No Answer why I was Sold New Night Sights and Received the Used factory sights that had obviously been on this Glock since new. Sales Reps. Should Never tell customers they will get anything in Better Condition than they will actually receive, nor tell customers they will Receive NEW Night Sights when they Did not. Did not Expect a New Gun but Despise being lied to and getting Zero response from customer Service... read more

I bought a set of Ameriglo bold night sites from them and an soon as I put them on my Glock I realized that they aren't visible enough for me in the day time. I immediately removed the sights and placed them back in the original packaging and emailed GT Distributors for a return authorization number only to be told that since I placed them on the Glock, they couldn't give me a refund. I then asked if I could return the sights and at least get a credit towards the purchase of some other sights that may work better for me, only to be told that they couldn't do that either. So now I'm stuck with a set of $90 sights that I'll never use. Not very customer Friendly read more

As one other Yelper said, this place has it all. I have been a customer of GT Supply for about 9 years, and I have always been greeted by an associate within the first few minutes of being there. Not only are they friendly, they are very knowledgeable. They also have very little turn over, every time I have been there I have seen the same faces. It is in fact a cop shop, but don't let that scare you, (unless you are on the FBI ten most wanted list). I have purchased a few fire arms and a BUNCH of accessories from 'em, and have never had a problem. I have never been in Law Enforcement,but that has never been an issue with these guys. If you need some ammo, or just want to browse I recommend them. Heck if you just want to check out some of the cool shit the police get to play with (for lack of a better term) go for it. read more

Great selection of products helpful staff only problem I see is it when you're ready to check out they never have enough cashiers in the checkout process that they have to go through takes too long. Went in just after Christmas. Yeah big mistake, 120 people in line. The guys there did the best possible job keeping everyone up to speed on what was going on and what they had in stock. At several times they made every effort to get people out of line who didn't need to be there. The biggest plus for me is that they aren't gouging people on prices when the rest of the world is going nuts. I would recommend it for anyone read more
