Great times at Cabelas. Who does not like to come here walk around and look at all the animal mounts and displays. The hall of horns here is amazing. It's unbelievable, the size of the Whitetail deer lining the walls. I like to walk along and read about them as each one has words to describe the each mount, how it was taken, and where it came from. There is an extensive supply of hunting paraphernalia, camping, food prep for outdoors, fishing, everything you need for being outdoors basically. read more

If you are looking for a place where you can spend an afternoon in a family friendly environment and you like perusing museums, then this Cabelas in Buda, Texas is the perfect place to go to this summer. They have the equivalent of 4 areas that are like 3 museums and an aquarium, You and your family or significant other are also going to enjoy this in an air conditioned environment. Wë have been to this store on more than one occasion just to walk through the different exhibits that have on display. There is an African safari themed area, an aquarium you can sit and enjoy, an arctic type display and a Texas wildlife area )which is the largest display). There is no cost to visit the display areas as they are art of the store. Come enjoy a worthwhile afternoon! I had an extremely nice person (employee) help me and I truly appreciate her patience, courtesy, and kindness. If I ever go back, I'll get her name for an update. One star for the entertaining location in Buda. There's a great selection of camping, hunting, and hiking items there, as well as a taxidermy collection and gun 'museum' on site. That's about all the good I can say about this place. Prices range from average to expensive, service is non-existent, and their online ordering system is a mess. Had to cancel an order, which resulted in a three-day wait followed by the email in the attached picture telling me to call a number. I went here 2 days ago but of course I've been here a few times but not frequently. When I pulled up I noticed a large sign that said we now give 5% discounts to military and I believe veterans on firearms and ammunition. I target practice quite often and was looking for some pistol ammunition. I went straight to the ammunition section and was amazed at the variety and reasonable prices. The young man who helped me was friendly knowledgeable and after talking to him he was a Marine veteran. Checkout was simple identifying myself as a veteran was quick and easy. I come from a large military veteran family spanning 3 generations and I always appreciate businesses that recognize veterans. The store is amazing with lots of animals on display, well lit and easy to get around. It's more than just a retail store it's a great place for kids. read more

This is one of the larger stores that I've been to. There are a mountain of stuffed and mounted animals on display. There is pretty much everything you could think of in the way of hunting and camping gear. It's a large store with an actual tunnel you can walk through to see a variety of fish. This is always a fun little walk. We found a pair of jeans for super cheap and the staff was attentive. Parking was easy. It's a fun walk even if you're not there to buy anything. read more

Seriously, the inside of this place is great and it can be so much fun to wander around looking at everything (like all the taxidermied critters and nature scenes) and shopping for whatever kind of outdoor gear you happen to need. But if you need a competent employee to assist you, you're probably out of luck. The moment you walk in you'll likely be heckled by an employee trying to get you to sign up for their debit card or whatever. Further in you'll likely be heckled by Cabela's "Bluegreen Vacation" partners trying to sell you a scam-like vacay package you don't want or need. If you just want to be left alone to browse and not be upsold, this is not the place to go. I had an especially frustrating experience at the start of this month purchasing floaties for my glasses. I picked one that worked well with my stems, noticing the price tag on the product was $9.99. When the employee rang it up, it was $14.99 and I corrected her that price was not what was on the product tag. She proceeded to tell me that they must not have updated the tag on the product, that I had to pay $14.99 because that's what the system said, and that she wouldn't honor the price tag literally ON the item. I tell you, this short of shit NEVER would happen at Target. It's worth the $5 hit to have happy customers who want to return. I would've left without it and purchased it on Amazon except I needed it for a trip the next day. My husband had a frustrating experience a couple months ago at the gun counter when he was looking to purchase a new firearm. They wouldn't hardly give him the time of day, so he decided to take his business elsewhere, understandably, voting with his money! Really this place just needs better management. Corporate needs to come in and train people how to actually deliver superior customer service instead of just hoping their cool set-up is enough to placate consumers. read more

My husband grew up fishing and hunting so it's in his blood. Needless to say upon moving to Austin, he stumbled across this gem thanks to his work buddies. Hubby insisted I come along next time he needed to pick up a few things. Lo and behold, upon arrival, you'll notice a massive structure. Don't worry - there's plenty of parking. I was impressed by the store's layout but most importantly, the gorgeous displays of nature (mostly staged stuffed animals), its very own waterfall and beautiful fish tanks. Cabela's has fun activities for the kids like seeing fish in tanks, fish feeding, and exploring the huge taxidermy collection of a wide range of animals. There is even a restaurant on the second level serving bbq and other items. Many outdoor other products are sold here from camping, apparel, boating and shoes. First time here and I have to say I had a pretty solid experience. The selection is massive, if you're into hunting / fishing / camping / boating you could easily spend a lot of time wandering around. Overall I was very pleased with my first visit at Cabela's. I popped in after work during the week, needed to find some new work shirts to wear, specifically - nice golf / polo shirts. At first glance I was taken back at the variety of items and clothing they had available here. I've had mediocre luck recently looking for apparel at Golf Shops and even though gold is not their forte here I was still able to find a few shirts that fit the bill as it was a pleasant surprise. I tell you one thing I was really happy about - all of their clothes were organized and right-sized on their hanger based on their sizes which makes the shopping experience so much easier and more efficient. If the hanger said "XL" it was an XL, and it was all sorted in the right sequence too. I was extremely pleased with that - it saves so much time and frustration! Also - anytime I needed to try on clothes there was always someone close by that would unlock the dressing room for me. They were attentive and responsive. There is an array of Northface attire - I have enough of that, but they also had a lot of items on sale or clearance. Most of which is located towards the back and there is a lot to choose from. There's a large display they have with taxidermy animals on rocks and cliffs, it's pretty cool. Also a large upstairs selection for stuff for the home. As I was proceeding to the front of the store the extensive sunglass section caught my eye, I ended up browsing for at least 30 min. An awesome selection here, plus a small section of clearance / reduced items. The staff there was very friendly and helpful, good conversation, I learned a lot about a flat over smoker from him - kudos. Overall a really great shopping experience at Cabela's, I will certainly be back for more. read more

A great store with tons to look at! A huge selection and nice staff. It is a fantastic place to bring kids to see a free pseudo natural history museum. So many displays from a variety of ecosystems. What a great place to walk though with kids and talk about animals. And who doesn't love walking through a tunnel of fish tanks. A great place to hang out in the ac and take in some sights. So my husband and friends like going to Cabela's for their guns and certain sports stuff. This Cabela's in Buda was one of the biggest stores I have been to! Oh and Buda is sounded like 'Beuda' by the locals. Weird how they pronounce words, right? There was plenty of parking for this Cabela's. Everything looks all big around here. They do have a lot to sell of everything or one of everything like they sell a whole section of fishing equipment. They had a large section for discounted clothing. Staff was welcoming and nice. They have an animal museum and aquarium within the store. If you are not into sports and in the area, I would visit this store for the museum and aquarium. I really enjoyed myself here. I processed an online purchase ( Red Dot ) that was too ready that day if I ordered it before 4:00pm. 30 minutes after my order was placed, I received a confirmation the order was received, and I should hear back shortly on when I should head towards the store and pick it up. Long story short they left multiple scratches on my pistol when they took it apart or put the trigger locks on not very happy with that not very professional work. My husband and father-in-law love this place. So I tend to tag a long. This place has EVERYTHING, from hunting gear, outdoor wear, guns, camping contraptions, all things travel. They also have interesting taxidermy of deer and other animals on display. Its almost like a natural history museum in there. They also have an aquarium with a variety of catfish, bass, trout, gar, and red fish. It's an interesting shop for sure. It's like a bass pro shop, but on steroids. Also, they have lots of sales associates around. So you never have to go look for someone, they will come to you. This place is organized and everything is well labeled so you know where to go to look for things. I'd come here again! read more

Although I'm not the type of person who frequents stores like REI or Cabela's, it's still interesting to see what there is for folks to buy. We were intrigued by the sign and the statue outside, and we could tell it was a large store so we were curious to see what was inside. To our surprise, we saw a beautiful display of animal statues that looked so very real, equipped with a nice blue sky as the background to emulate a true camping view. There was a section for us to play some shooting games, which may have been for kids but it was fun for us too. I loved taking a look at the various bags, backpacks, sleeping bags and other types of camping gear. We also came across a lot of decorative items for those who owns cabins. There wasn't anything you couldn't find in this store. The one thing I noticed was the limited amount of women's clothing. The racks had leftover clothes on sale in sizes that hadn't sold out. The regular-priced clothes weren't that fashionable. I noticed a lot more options in the men's section with noticeable brands. This Cabela's location in Buda TX is the worst location !!!! They have the worst customer service I've ever experienced. As a former retail manager of 12 years if I had employees like this they would be on disciplinary notices or terminated. They are more concerned with the stories from their night out or the drama of their dating lives. The male employees in the gun department are very sexist, whenever there is a woman there they get overlooked, and treated like they're dumb. I've witnessed this myself on several counts. I can't count how many times they overlook a female standing there waiting to be acknowledged. Lastly, If you're not dressed to impress they don't even acknowledge your existence, it's pretty disheartening to see. Going to Cabela's is always an adventure, but I'm going to make a confession. I never buy anything from here. It's too expensive. My mom, however, has purchased several Cabela's shirts for me and the rest of my family, and I feel like 50% of the price is for the Cabela's name brand. It's half sports/outdoors store, half indoor natural park. Personally, I find way more interest in the taxidermy and live fish, as it feels like a trip to the zoo. Except the only thing alive are the sea creatures. I feel like any road trip to or from Austin has to have a pit stop at two places: Cabela's or Buc-ees. read more

Sooooooo I went here to see the "stuffed animal" exhibit. Yes I know It's more like the zoo of animals that have passed on. It's one of those places that is so unique it seems to draw me in. Let me be clear about something they sell guns, and when I visited it was NRA weekend. I had no interest in joining but felt a need to take a bunch of pictures of the booths. When I walked in to the store I was warmly greeted and was made to feel comfortable. The smell of candy coated roasted nuts filled the air and made me realize that I was in a very unique place. Off to the left I noticed gun safes and a assortment of guns and knives. The center of the store was filled with clothing and towards the back a large "stuffed animal exhibit". On the right there was the cashiering area, snacks and the fishing equipment. tucked away in this area you will find their little aquarium and this is the one place you will find something living (besides the customers). Walk up the stairs and you will find a restaurant serving many southern comfort foods. I've never dined there but I did look at the area and found it to be cafeteria style. If you are a sportsmen/ sportswoman you will quickly find yourself at home. The only thing I ended up purchasing was the candy coated roasted nuts. I took a lot of pictures and spent over and hour just looking at stuff. I have to agree with Wes O, this is a bit of a roadside tourist attraction. read more

Buda - I planned on purchasing a Walther pistol this morning. I waited at the gun counter for about 15 minutes while the two employees took care of other customers. When one of them finished their transaction he walked right past me twice and never spoke a word. Then he went to the far end of the counter and woke up the monitor that had a waiting list on it. The sign instructing customers to sign in is not visible from the middle of the gun counter and with the screen in sleep mode I never saw it so I failed to sign in. My frustration comes from the short grey hared employee with a beard, he could have easily said "Have you signed in yet" or a simple "Good morning". I was the only person at the counter, yet not a word from the employee. I left and ordered my gun from Academy. read more
