If I could give 0 stars, I would. I'm posting this to make others aware and to advocate for anyone who may have lost their vehicle or been taken advantage of in a vulnerable moment. To be fair, the tow truck driver himself was amazing calm, kind, respectful, and patient. He handled my vehicle with care and showed real professionalism. Honestly, he deserves a better company to work for, because the issues I experienced were not because of him. The problems began once my vehicle arrived at GT Tow Service. I was told by the lady at the front desk (I'm keeping her name private) that they were charging $100 per day. When I calmly said that rate was not lawful or posted anywhere, she scratched it out on the paper and changed it to $30 per day. This raised immediate concerns about the legitimacy and consistency of their pricing. There were no posted storage rates, even though Missouri law requires them. Instead, the fees were handwritten, inconsistent, and changed depending on who you talked to. They attempted to charge extremely high amounts with no explanation and refused to provide a printed rate sheet. When I calmly tried to give them a written dispute and a legal notice of payment under protest, an employee (a very angry lady who is said to be the owner) took the document and threw it in the trash. That tells you everything you need to know about how they treat people. They also made it difficult to access my own vehicle or retrieve belongings something Missouri law explicitly protects. I had to involve police just to get the situation documented. People deserve transparency, respect, and lawful practices especially after a crash or emergency. No consumer especially victims of accidents or vulnerable families should have to navigate this type of treatment when they're already dealing with stress, injury, or financial hardship. I will be submitting all evidence to the Missouri Attorney General, the Department of Revenue, and other oversight agencies so others are protected. To the tow driver -- thank you. You were the only professional part of this experience. I genuinely hope you find a better company to work for. read more

The gentleman that towed my husbands car was very nice and informative. Unfortunately, the woman (I will not name due to privacy and respect.) who calls people about the tow was extremely rude and hung up on me when I was telling her our situation. The lack of empathy and customer service was terrible. I would not recommend this service if she is in office. She also told me that she was a manager but then had to ask higher ups questions and when I asked who she was talking about she said the owners daughter and then the daughter talked to the owner. Why would I have not just talked to the owner in the first place when I asked for the higher up? I had a great experience with GT Tow! I had to tow a used car back to the dealer to return it from Smithville to Des Moines. It was a pricey round trip due to the miles, but understandable. I was able to ride in the cab because I had to finalize the paperwork with the dealer which saved me putting the miles on my other car and paying for gas. This was the worst experience ever, when I got there to even just see the car they wouldn't let me see it without paying, then they tell me I had to pay with cash only, something they did not tell me over the phone. They didn't even ask to see my id to verify it was even my car all they were concerned about was the money and then tried to charge me an additional $124.00 added to the quote i was given on the phone. After I paid they gave me the around for over an hour about getting my things out of the vehicle. New year's eve a gentleman failed to yield resulting in a multi car accident. My car is very likely totaled. Here comes the sketchy part. GT Tow arrived first on the accident scene, less than 3 minutes after the wreck. Not knowing better, I allowed them to load my car on the back of their truck. I was never given a quote nor was any $ amount discussed. I also never received a written receipt of the tow with any of the information on how to pay and or what the fees may be. Fast forward to today I called about getting my personal stuff from the vehicle. I was then informed the tow bill was $700+ dollars, and they won't release any property until the bill is paid. I'm going to assume that the negative reviews were left by persons with a grudge or by mistake or by people with no insurance who don't understand that the only way these people get paid is when you pick up the car and settle the bill. If you're driving a junker and plan to leave it and not pay don't blame them for your problem. My wife was in a serious accident and the car was totalled. They stated $320 for the tow on a Sunday and told us to pick the vehicle up on Monday and when I got there they changed the price to $400. They have this tough guy biker thing going on to intimidate ppl I assume. I argued with them for 2 days and the price eventually ended up at $360. These people are nothing short of thieves! I was in an accident on a Saturday night. Keep in mind, I had just popped a car airbag with my face, and was in a stunned frame of mind looking out at my totaled car in the middle of the road. The driver Robert was there immediately, as he has a police scanner in his truck for quick action bottom feeding. He told me how GT Tow is affiliated with the city and on their list for tow work, which made me feel comfortable since I generally feel like KCMO is a pretty fair city, and surely wouldn't affiliate with a company using underhanded tactics. But I was wrong to assume this. Robert asked me where I lived and I said South Kansas City, so he said they have a tow lot in Grandview that he could take it to, Easy Peasy! I felt ok with that since it was close to where I live, and he told me he could drop me off at home along the way. Sounds good right? I'm in good hands here.. very convincing.. So he drops me off (in my driveway where my wrecked car could have easily sat till Monday morning, and it would have if Robert would have been forthcoming about their steep and accumulating storage fees), but then he proceeds to take my car 30 miles north to their Smithville lot. I found this out the next morning when I thought I'd be driving just a few minutes over to clean my belongings out of the car. He totally lied to me. The long and short of it is, they towed my car one time to their lot, approximately a 35 mile tow if you include taking me home (which would have only been 10 miles if he would have gone to Grandview like he said he would do in the first place). My insurance company picked it up there Monday. After 1 tow, and less than 2 days of storage.. the cost was $930!! This is not a typo, I repeat $930!! The Insurance company driver actually had to call for approval since it was so drastically higher than average tows. They are crooks! Do not do business with them! They are scam artists and will take you for all they can while you are in crisis mode just trying to get your immediate problems solved. If you are in an accident, it's an overwhelming feeling, but stay calm, and look on your insurance card. There is probably a 1-800 number on there for help in getting your car towed by a reputable company they already work with. I wish I would have seen this before trusting the first driver on the scene that spun a good web to make me feel like he was some kind of city approved agent looking out for my best interest. My car was rear-ended and no longer driveable. Gt towed the car to their lot, and when my insurance company tried to arrange to have their own under-contract vendor then tow the car to the body shop, Gt refused to release the car unless I was there in person. I live an hour away from the tow yard, and obviously didn't have a vehicle to get there in person. The insurance company couldn't get around their own vendor contract to move the vehicle. This meant a complete stall in getting the insurance claim resolved. Every other tow company my insurance company works with accepts an over-the-phone release. This tow company would rather inconvenience someone who is stressed out and in pain from an accident rather than lose a couple buck's worth of business and conform to its own industry's standards. Oh, but they WERE more than happy to accept an over-the-phone release when I gave in and called to have them move the vehicle to the body shop and then leave it there--without me ever showing up in person to sign their paperwork. It means a round-robin of refunds from my insurance company and a bunch of hassle on my part, but hey, the tow company is happy, and that's what matters, right? read more

I really don't much to say about the actual tow. My daughter was in a car accident and in a crisis, you normally are open to whatever is available and there he was. The guy at the scene was helpful, quick and courteous. I didn't think about my car much afterwards because it looked to be a total loss and GT Tow seemed efficient. My issue is with the office staff. I walked into GT Tow's lobby 5 days later to retrieve my things and just moments before another lady came in. Why was my clerk so interested in helping the second customer who was swiftly being helped by another clerk? I actually walked out of the office after this woman who was there to do the exact same thing as I (sign a release, get your key to clear your car.). The rub for me was that the other customer was told that they would send staff outside to get her tags off the car and they did - quickly. The men were there when I drove by without the same offer extended to me. So after cleaning my car out, I asked for the same service. I was told it was up to me whether I wanted to get my tags off and she handed me a screwdriver. hmmmmm Look, I can't really damage their reputation any more than it already is. They have a 1.5 on Yelp and 3.8 here. But what I can do is share my experience and let you decide whether or not to use them. As a final note: I let the clerk know upon returning the tools that I was standing in the lobby when they sent men out to remove the tags from the other customer's car. She promptly told me that they don't normally remove tags so I repeated the same statement because you either do it or you don't. In this case, they don't if you look like me. read more

Ok so my vehicle was towed by GT tow. My vehicle had previously been in a accident and my front bumper was hanging off on one side. The morning my vehicle was towed the front bumper was still attached. I went up to get my vehicle and had it towed back home. However when my vehicle was towed back the front bumper was missing. I asked the driver and he said that he didnt know anything about it. The main reason I wanted my front bumper was for my license plate and my nice license pate cover. So I called to ask about my bumper and was told that it was deliever the way it was picked up.( Also I had photos showing my front bumper still attached before it was towed) I told the lady that it was not, she put me on hold and said that she was going to check. She came back and said that it was in the car. I told it couldnt have been because I had the keys when it was towed the door was locked. She told me to hold and then cam back and said that the front was attached. Again I said that it wasn't, she then said that she would look into it and call me back. After a week later no call back I called the office. A lady at the office was very rude and said that they did not have my bumper. That I could go to the license bureau and get a new one and also the license plates covers where like $2.00 at Wal-Mart. When I told that my license plate cover was more then $2.00 she said it was not her problem. After all the run around for just a simple apology or offer for reimbursement for these items for losing them. I asked for their insurance company information because I wanted to file a claim for loss goods. I was told that they we where not responsible and would not provide this information. They started to get very defensive and hung up on me. Finally I called back and spoke with a male claiming to be the owner he place me on hold (for 10mins) I hung up and called back. He answered and said that he was on the line with his agent and providing his agent with my contact information. I asked him how he had my contact infomation when he never asked for it? He then told me " its on my called id dumbass". I asked him to repeat my number that he had he did but it was the wrong number. I told him that and he then got defensive and yelled that he didnt care that he was giving his agent the number that was on the caller id. Bottom line this is a shady tow company that will not accept fault and turn the blame on you. Because the owner then claim that i was trying to file a claim aganist them for my damage to vehicle. After I had repeatly stated that it was for the front bumper and had said that my vehicle was damaged when they picked up the vehicle. All i wanted was reimbursement for my license plate and cover. And when I asked for their insurance information so that i may file a claim they became very combative and defensive like they had something to hide. So word of advice do whatever it takes to avoid this tow company at all cost. I have use my tow company it my day and this one is the absolute worse. Here is an update...never hire GT Tow to do your towing...Although I am being told all tow companies are a rip off...here is the breakdown 200 for my car being "light", 100 for a wrench, 100 for a flatbed to put it on since it wasn't drivable, 92 for mileage, 90 for 2 day storage at their lot aka overnight, 75 admin fee, 175 for more towing from lot to repair shop. $832 Does anyone else find this outrageous? This was my mother-in-law's post on 1-5-2012.
