I love eating Chinese food with tweezers!!! Seriously, the worst take out experience I've ever had. Let's start with the phone call. The plan was to order two lunch portions of chicken and veggies. They guy taking my order started giggling. I'm still not sure why. I also asked for spring rolls and wontons, then the phone was hung up. Ok? I called back and the guy was like "I got it!" No total, no estimated time. He also didn't take my name, so when I went to pick it up I was given some kind of shrimp surprise that he insisted was mine and I didn't notice until I got back to work. I went back in and finally got the correct order. The chicken was questionable, and even though both orders were supposed to be the same, one had broccoli and onions and the other was like a mixture of corn and mushrooms? Ok. The wontons were even more questionable. We now call them cat pouches. And to top it all off there was no spoon, fork, chopstick, nothing!!!! The good: The food here is Great! General Tao's Chicken is there most popular menu item, and it is great. When I visit a new Chinese restaurant I test them by ordering, General Tao's Chicken, Hunan Beef, Egg Rolls, And Hot and sour soup. If any of these things is off by my standards, then I most likely will never return. This is a place with yellow fried rice, so that means no soy sauce, so you could even get gluten free fried rice. (Gluten Free ingredients, but cross contamination might still occur) I'm a lover of good food, and here the portions are pretty good to. The not so good: Dining in can be a challenge, basic chairs, basic tables, lack of beverage choices (all I saw was bottled bottler and canned sodas) Decor is minimal, since it has windows on 2 of the 3 sides. But heck, I can deal with that, since it looks like 98% of their business is take out. All in all, food is best I've had in the Winchester area. read more

Chinese food and my appetite usually go hand and hand. I've never had issue trying anything new off of any menu, however, Guam's keeps things pretty basic when it comes to a good ole` fashioned menu. The food is pretty good, but also pretty pricey, unless you're stopping for a lunch special. When Guam's first opened, they seemed very confused on how to run a restaurant, and gave the impression that this was their first try. After a few months, they were able to get with the pace, but only gave you a very basic, if not lackluster, experience. There's no real decor on any walls, except a Asian model calendar in the corner wall that one of the owners always raves to me about when I see him. Rarely, if ever, will you hear any music playing. To be honest, its actually kind of depressing. Service varies depending on who is working. If you're planning on eating in, you just walk in and sit down without direction. On the tables you will find a stack of menus, a bowl of forks, a basket of napkins, and soy sauce. Sometimes, I get helped right away, though the last time I went, I waited nearly 5 minutes before anyone even walked out of the kitchen. Food generally comes quick, hot, and fresh. Again, depending on who is serving you will depend if they bring you duck sauce/mustard/etc., or if you have to walk up to the register and get it all yourself. They carry no ABC license, so they only offer sodas/teas in the bottle. These get pretty expensive, especially if you're eating something hot and spicy and need to cool your mouth down. Recently, they started to offer a house iced tea, which is phenomenal. It used to be free with your meal, but they now charge a whopping $1.75 for a small Styrofoam cup. All in all, Guam's is an 'okay' place to go for food, but it's not a memorable experience by any means, and outside of lunch specials, the cost is pretty high when comparing to other local competition. read more

As noted by other reviews, the front counter guy is very gruff and sometimes chews people out for acting like they've never been to a Chinese food place before. Honestly, I love it when I get there and it's busy because someone is sure to rile him up and it's hilarious. I mean seriously how can you not know what a Chinese food place has?! He is sort of like the Asian soup nazi. No general tso for you Seinfeld! Good food and entertainment! I eat there once a week. Make sure you ask for the "lunch" portion if you want the lunch portion otherwise they give you the standard portion, which is why some reviews said he charges the wrong amount. We received a terrible batch of general tsos chicken. ....it was soggy, overly breaded, with no meat. Worst of all, he double charged me, then he said he could not refund it. He said to come back on Monday. ....so we did. ...he told me to call my bank. ......why? He gave me no refund reciept.....he was rude ad ignorant ....he basically is trying to cheat me.....he will not offer me a refund. ...Crook and liar, who does not know how to use his machine. I think this place is Under new ownership as the usual employee is no longer at the counter. Add to this the fact that the quality has gone way down and you get a pretty mediocre place. Won't be surprised if its closed before too much longer. read more

We always stop at this exit on our way home from the OBX. I was in the mood for chinese food and despite the pictures in the window, that really do a disservice, we thought we'd give them a shot. I'm hesitant to try unfamiliar chinese restaurants when I'm traveling but we couldn't have been more pleased. They had a great lunch special that was even available on weekends. My fiance got the General Tso's Chicken and I got the Kung Pao Chicken. We got a side order of crab rangoon. The bathrooms were not the best. The men's room had a leaky and rust stained toilet and my fiance wouldn't go in the lady's room after opening the door but she doesn't like public restrooms in the first place. The man at the counter took our order and asked us to have a seat. It took about 5-10 minutes and he called us up. I couldn't believe all of the food we got. Two very large styrofoam containers completely filled. The food was so fresh and tasted great. Not even counting the crab rangoon we both had enough for two large meals. I like spice so I wish the Kung Pao Chicken had more of a kick but the flavor was fantastic. The crab rangoon had so much filling and it was warm and creamy like it should be. They could leave them in the fryer for a little longer to make the wonton extra crispy but that may be just a personal preference. We met up with the rest of our group. We all got food from different places and ate together. Nobody could believe how much food we got or what we paid for it. Everybody agreed that we would all be going to Guan's Garden next year. read more

By far the worst customer service experience ever. The guy who took my order was just plain rude from the start! It started out when I gave him the lunch special # off of their menu, he ignorantly asked me what that was and told me not to use that from now on, because they are always changing their menu. He then took my order. Lunch special includes fried rice. I simply asked was it extra for pork fried rice (because most restaurants I eat at only charges extra for shrimp fried rice). His reply, "What do you think!?" Fast forward ahead to when I get there to pick up my food...My order was quite simple, shrimp lo mein and sweet and sour shrimp. He told me that's not what I ordered, I ordered vegetable lo mein and sweet and sour pork!? After he argues with me, he says, "Whatever, we will remake it." So finally, my order comes up...of course I check to make sure it is actually what I originally ordered. He proceeds to charge me more than it should be. When I asked him why it was more than the amount on the menu with the state and local tax rate, he said the tax rate is always changing. Then told me just pay what you want, I have a headache!
