For being in Chico, California, Guido's is the go to place probably hundreds of years of combined experience working on high-end and European cars. Dan is very knowledgeable, helpful and easy to deal with. Guido's is not cheap, but have done quality work in the past. Took in for service costing $204 including a 60 point inspection. The vehicle began to skip while traveling. Guidos had indicted a transmission slip fault and serviced it for $225, noting if trouble returns to take to transmission shop. I took to Transamatic Inc who found transmission to be fine but engine was misfiring on cylinder #3 - 2,170 times! Returned to Guidos advising of misfire. Gave me estimate of $338. Fixed the misfire they had failed to discover on their prior 60 point inspection and charged me $693.12 which was $355.12 more than the estimate. They explained the technician that had done the last service had been fired. I will never take my vehicle there again, they cannot be trusted, hire unqualified employees, and charge way to much for their bad service. read more

Daniel is one of the best no nonsense mechanics you can ask for. They worked on my range rover relentlessly while i was in nursing school (never buy one) and kept it running to get me through. This is not a place to go if you were on a budget. If you were on a budget you probably don't have the kind of car that this place services to begin with. That out-of-the-way, Guidos is a professional shop with very experienced mechanics that no your car as well as the car makers do. Daniel, the owner, is always present and always has a smile on his face and greets you personally when you take your car in for service or repair, and usually when you pick your car up or, as is often the case, when they pick you up or drop you off, which is a rarity for shops these days unless you're at the Stealership. I needed an oil change for my Fiat, and he said that he could charge me $400 because he's the only guy in town who would do it. I chose Guido's because 2 other shops either didn't work on Mercedes or didn't have capacity at that time. I was encouraged that other shops recommended Guido's (or rather, Daniel, who is the owner). I was in distress as my daughter is a student at Chico State and the car was incapacitated due to mechanical failure. She couldn't get to her job and it was $20 a day to Uber to work. Daniel assessed the situation, had his tech do an evaluation and he stepped me through what it would take to validate the presumption that it was the car's main computer that had shorted/fried in the flash floods in Chico recently. Unfortunately, I only had liability insurance and was facing $3k out of pocket charge that I had no line-of-sight to. Long story short: Daniel worked with me on alternatives. He made many phone calls and provided professional advice. It all worked out. Many people look their whole life for an honest mechanic. Here they are at Guido's!!! Dear Guido, Daniel and Brian, I was born in the evening, but it wasn't yesterday evening. You wanted to charge me almost $600 (this includes two hours of labor) to change out the idle control unit on my Mercedes. I just bought one on my own for $91 and put it in myself. Ten minutes. My car runs beautifully now. Guido, remember how you told me that Brian spent so much time doing "diagnostics?" How come he came to the conclusion it was the ICU within moments of turning the car on and opening the hood? Right there, right in front of me? Why were there no diagnostics on my receipt? No "checked this" or "checked that." Why was there no mention of diagnostics until I asked why you were charging me two hours? And Daniel, when I spoke to you at 10:30, you said "Brian hasn't had a chance to get to your car yet and still has one job ahead of you." An hour later my car was ready for a $600 repair. Interesting. You told me it was because Brian was such a "talented technician who could get in and out quickly." I must be a talented technician too, because those three screws didn't take me all that long either. You said you couldn't re-solder my ICU because it was "a mess" with someone else's solder. I pulled that part and it wasn't a mess. I played it safe and put in a new unit, but there were just a few joints that were very neatly re-soldered. And you're technicians are so talented... Oh, right, and Guido told me that it took 2 hours because you had to dig through the manufacturer's epoxy. Really? The guy who pulled it the first time and re-soldered it didn't do that? Hmmmm. Small favors: they did credit me back 30 minutes. "We've been in business for thirty years!" I find that amazing. I had a feeling you ripped me off the first time I came in. This was the second time and it's now clear. So. Either Guido has issues with the truth or he's unaware of and too trusting of his technicians' tactics. Either way, these guys tried their best to rip me off. And yes, they succeeded for the first $141. Update: Have now received two nasty responses from Daniel, including an insinuation that he was going to go onto "ratemyprofessors.com" to somehow spoil my reputation. Really nice. read more

I was in the market for a used Range Rover a year ago and called around to find a reputable shop who could do a pre purchase inspection on the suv i chose. I had read some of the reviews online and coming from a family who use to own an automotive business I know that mechanics typically have a bad rap. I decided to give them a call and see for myself. I called and talked to Daniel and was pleasantly surprised to find out that he use to work for a Range Rover dealership. Once I found the one I wanted I called him on a Friday afternoon and to my surprise he said he would fit it in for me so I could make the purchase. After the inspection he informed me that it was due for a scheduled service and that the breaks were low. I received a quote from them and decided to shop it to a couple of other shops around town to see if there was any validity to the other reviews about price gouging. I found the exact opposite. Most shops couldn't even work on a Range Rover and the ones that could were actually more money. So I went ahead and scheduled the service. It was completed promptly and when we went to pick it up we were shocked to see that we received a complementary wash. In the last year my wife has had a code show up on the dash and handful of questions about how things work and each time I direct her down to Guido's and they take the time to answer her questions as to how things work and the reason for a code to come up and all of this time they've spent with us has been free of charge. The cherry on the top came just a couple of weeks ago when we were on vacation and the transmission wouldn't shift. We called up Guido's and were thrilled when Daniel answered. He spent 15 minutes on the phone with us walking us through what happened and how to fix the problem. He saved our trip and $$$ from us having to call a tow truck. I recommend them to all of my friends and family and would also recommend that any other common sense yelpers who know that good service and workmanship is not cheap and that you get what you pay for to give them a call. read more

As a loyal Porsche owner I'm quite picky who I will trust my ride to. You can call Niello in Rocklin and wait three weeks to get taken to the cleaners or call Daniel and get worked in a couple days later. He never tries to up sell you on something you don't need. Very down to earth and honest. A rare commodity in the auto repair business. Why should I get charged up the wazoo just because I have a Porsche? We've had a lot of work done a Guido's, and one time there was a problem on my Audi AllRoad that we ended up paying $1600 to fix, except it didn't fix it. Long story less long, they refunded me the money, and all is good. I have since taken their recommendation and purchased a Japanese car (Acura MDX) and have only seen them once to service it. I did bring it to another place that was highly recommended to have an AC controller replaced, and it was like that Bizarro episode on Seinfeld: There was a "Daniel" at the front desk, there was "Guido" whom I never saw, they used a taxi instead of an employee to drive me home. Whatever. Their hourly rate was the same: About $95, while local dealers are at $125. Rates go as low as $65/hr in Chico, but those are tiny one man shops with little overhead. Due to a stocking issue, I had the rear AC controller replaced several weeks later, used Guido's, and all was fine. So the moral of the story is: If you have a problem, call them and discuss it, and you might be happy to hear that they'll actually back their work. If you walk away and never say anything to them, they'll never know that there is a problem, right? read more

My daily driver is a 47 year old Volvo. It has no oil leaks, an internal voltage regulator, gets more hp to the wheels than a late 80's 3-series BMW, and never lets me down. This is all thanks to Guido and his team. Guido runs a full service operation, they are very good at sourcing parts and will get them fabricated when necessary. If you are fortunate enough to own a classic European car, Guido is the expert that will keep it in top condition. They are very good with communication as well. A lot of the work was done when I was stationed in Japan and he kept me up to date and provided accurate estimates. Since I've left Chico he's also helped me figure out issues over the phone. Guido's serviced my car for over 5 years, and honestly took it from a pig of a car that sweated oil to something that will serve you just as well on the autocross track as the daily commute. I recommend these guys without reservation, they have the expertise and honesty to give you peace of mind. I couldn't speak more highly of Guido's Auto Repair. I recently purchased a used BMW X5 SUV from Chuck Paterson. Within a month of owning this vehicle, it started having one problem after another. First, it had a terribly loud screeching noise. I took it to Courtesy Auto and they charged $800 to fix it (which Chuck Paterson paid for). The very next day, after getting my car back from Courtesy Auto, my vehicle wouldn't start. Courtesy quoted me over $1000 to replace the starter which had gone out. I had my vehicle towed to Guido's Auto Repair, where they fixed it for a few hundred dollars less than what Courtesy had quoted me. The next issue I had with the BMW, was nonstop leaking. I took it to Guido's and they discovered a huge crack in the water holding tank for the radiator. Again, they replaced it for a decent price. Most recently, I had a huge leak again. I took it to Guido's and they diagnose the problem, the water pump had busted. This is an over $1500 repair! The Office Manager at Guido's took it upon himself to call Chuck Paterson, and ask if they would help pay for any of the repairs. Of course, they were unwilling to help with any further. But Guido's, out of the kindness of their hearts, took a little pity on me and cut me a big deal on the price of this repair, knowing I had already paid so much money to fix this vehicle, that I've owned for barely 4 months. Long story short, Chuck Paterson's sucks, Courtesy Auto is way over priced, and Guido's Auto Repair is wonderful. I'm so grateful to them. Thank you Guido's! read more

Dear Prospective Customers, I've been coming to Guido's for a little over a decade. Let me say this as a qualifying statement: I have terrible car juju. One of my cars caught on fire and burned up on the Autobahn in 1989 after being worked on by Volkswagen mechanics in Germany itself. Another nearly fell off a cliff due to a steering issue, a third needed a quart of oil every 100 miles, one lost its whole steering column on the Henry Hudson Parkway and required almost $3000 worth of work, and my Volvo, which was the first car I brought here upon moving from the Capital of Schiesters in NYC, needed work almost every month. So, let's say I know my way around car mechanics. They have become a familiar breed. I've not been able to trust anyone to actually lift me out of my bad luck before I met Daniel and his team. There is a reason I have come here for years and years, and it is the warm and kindhearted competence of Daniel and his team. They take their time. They explain things to you. They ask about your kids, and then they actually listen. I have felt that they actually cared if I were to leave this place unhappy, and they certainly care if you leave this place feeling unsafe. They have recently expanded to work on cars that are not just specialty imports. This is a trustworthy crew and a case that you do, in fact, get what you pay for. I can not say enough about how wonderful Guido's auto repair is! We have found Daniel to be extremely friendly and honest. We had a lemon of a car, a 2003 BMW X5 that required countless repairs. Daniel understands how difficult it is to be without a car and always does everything he can to get us in immediately. Knowing we don't have extra money to spend on auto repairs he always tells us what repairs are crucial and which repairs he'd suggest later on. After working on our car numerous times he strongly suggested we get a different car. He would tell my husband that the kids and I should be in something that isn't so risky on the road. He could have easily continued working on our car, which required regular repairs but he truly cares about his customers and knew it was in our best interest to have a car without so many problems. I also found that he would do little things for free that other mechanics would charge for. I mentioned I was out of washer fluid and asked what he'd suggest I get. Daniel and Dean are a good team!!! Daniel has taken good care of us and our Range Rover with his sincere care for the car as well as his integrity and honesty. Had some non mechanical issues go on with the car and was advised by Daniel to take it to the Dealership so off we went. Only to find out the car was in good condition after a recall part was installed on to the car. Was advised at the dealership to have Guido's look over the bushings and the car was in need of front brake pads and rotors and this is the best part. A lot of money was saved right here at Guido's. This is a response to Debra's comment that the Bureau of Auto Repair did noting in response to my complaint -- this is an outright lie! The BAR issued a report stating that the repair to my steering was done incorrectly according to the AllData protocols. I was told specifically to subpoena out the report in order to sue them. Unfortunately, there was a time limit on suing, and I could not make the deadline, so the suit didn't happen, but I am telling you honestly -- there is at least one BAR report (mine) against these guys. I initially got an estimate at another auto shop in town and was told there were many things wrong and it was going to be a costly fix. My daughter goes to school at Chico State (I live in Davis), and her VW wouldn't start. It started up for Guido's but they believed her when she said there was a problem. After checking all of the normal things (battery, starter...), Guido's put it on the computer and found the problem was a faulty coolant temperature sensor. Their pricing was fair, and they picked up my daughter from her apartment and brought her to her car when the repair was finished. I would highly recommend Guido's. read more

I have heard over the years of living in Chico, that Guidos gives good service. After taking our BMW there for the first time I felt the same way- until I had to take it back 2 more times for the same thing. The first time they charged me $1200 to fix a few things - ok - these things needed to be done. Then a month later I had to bring it back for the same thing & they looked at it free of charge (which was nice) - told us everything was fine & sent us on our way. Then, a couple more weeks go by & I have to bring it back for the 3rd time for the SAME thing. They check it out & tell me I need a new radiator & that they'll give me a $75 discount. First of all the part was around $360 & the labor was also around $360. In my gut I knew they were ripping me off. For something they should have already fixed or prevented from happening. So, I listened to my gut & called every BMW mechanic in town, including the dealership & Guidos had the highest price by A LOT! The price for the part was the same at every shop & Guidos told me they were giving me a $75 discount on the part (total LIE - small shops get wholesale prices & they were after market price!)! The labor is where they were overcharging me & did I mention I ALREADY PAID THEM to fix the problem before! They wanted ~ $740 total & the dealership was $640 & the other shops were $500 - $600. When I called Guidos to see if they would bring down the price, the guy on the phone was very rude to me - mad at me even. I grew up here & I know a lot of people with fancy cars & believe me, they have all heard my story. Guidos is not the only shop in Chico that works on expensive, fancy, awesome, fast cars. As a southern California father of a Chico State student I was hoping to find a service repair shop in the area to entrust her 1991 Volvo 240 DL for service work. Wrong ! I was told by one of the owners, so I thought, that they would need to have the car for two hours to hook up some testing lights to trace the starting issue, so we made an appointment to have the work done. They then kept her car for a day and half not calling to keep us informed. Even after keeping the vehicle longer than was agreed to, I find out that they didn't use the testing instrument that I thought I was paying for, to isolate the problem. They then returned the car to my daughter not finding the problem we brought it in for. Now wanting to charge us for the time ( 2 hours labor not using the testing lights that they were hired to do ) to uncover a completely different issue. Informing of us a situation I had ready told them about at the time I met with him. I might say that I was well aware of the information before entrusted them with fixing the problem. It is obvious that they passed off her car to the tech without all the information I had taken time to provide them with. Be very careful with these smooth talkers just seem to be another bate and switch auto repair shop " can't find your problem we will come up with something else to make money with. read more

Absolutely great place for auto repair and service in Chico. I wouldn't go anywhere else, Daniel is a honest and knowledgeable individual. He serviced my vehicle, ordered the necessary parts and had a very quick turn around time from the first phone call to the drop off and pick up of my vehicle. I have a couple very nice AMG mercedes that I wouldn't trust in the hands of your average mechanic and these guys far exceeded my expectations. There were a few things I needed to follow up with, some parts needed to be ordered and another date for additional service is set. He was evening willing to accommodate my schedule when he had a rather busy one himself. I will be using this shop as my go to shop in Chico whenever I need something done to my vehicles.
