I went in today for a brake check since I had some squeaking and I was frankly uneducated on brakes and that information so I was heavily reliant on getting a good shop to tell me what's going . After going to another shop and no transparency with them, this shop was so helpful and is going to be my go to car shop. Having concluded my business here they charged me $200 for an oil change and kept my vehicle for weeks. This used to be a safe place to take your vehicle to, i would recommend Guidos if living in the Chico area. Sure Guidos charges more but you get what you pay for and here you pay for it and don't get anything. Stay away. read more

I would not recommend this shop. The office man is horrible, he will lie to customers for his convenience and treat them with contempt only for choosing to do business with Chico Car Care. I came from out of town for basic servicing and inspection. I had made an appointment for 9 a.m. When I called for an update at 2 p.m. the office man told me it was almost done. He then called me an hour later to tell me that the skid plate had been damaged and that they couldn't access the oil filter on my Toyota Tundra. I asked him if it had taken his guys an hour to figure that out.... he was rude so I told him to stop any further work, leave the skid plate in place and that I would come and get the truck. It took me 10 minutes to get there. In this time it appeared that they had taken a crowbar to the skid plate, ripping it from the frame and destroying it in the process. Yes... I am sure the skid plate had some previous damage and wear. It was a skid plate, but it was not destroyed until it was worked on at Chico Car Care. 3 days prior I had an alignment done and the technician at the other shop denies there being any damage to the skid plate. You have been known to do quality work in the past.... that was 3 to 4 years ago, we used to come in regularly. Chico Car Care has taken a turn for the worse. I would advise others to avoid doing business with them. $350 for a new RCI skid plate. I was due for an upgrade anyway. Realizing that your shop has turned to crap before they do some serious damage to your vehicle. It's good to see the good in the bad I guess. read more

We took our 10-year-old car to get an estimate for a spark plug exchange. The service manager took detailed information on the car and then gave us a precise quote of $240+. Because we had gotten other estimates (always a good idea for non-emergency work,) this was in the acceptable range. So they did the work at the quoted price in less than two hours, with a ride to work and back if needed. The service included a maintenance check of major systems. Based on color they recommended transmission service but new had an invoice showing a flush had been done two weeks before. The local transmission shop where the work was done, agreed to replace the fluid even though it was not clear if color was due to normal oxidation. Also recommended a brake fluid flush at $160 but when we took it to Schwab who normally does our break work they provided a record showing they did a flush, not a bleed, 12,000 miles ago. When we had it serviced at Jiffy Lube a few days later they said there was no need to service the battery cables which Chico Car Care had recommended. The inspection that comes with service often can be helpful. But the customer is best served by keeping accurate service records and checking carefully if recommended service is really needed and at the Chico Car Care or other proposed price. The service manager is very helpful in explaining what needs to be done and providing costs. read more

Dont bother going on the company's website, they purge and omit all 1, 2, 3 and virtually all 4 star reviews. Bottom line, good mechanics but you'll pay premium, sometimes overinflated prices. I received a quote with a 100% mark-up on the part ($300 for a $150 part) I know this because I ended up doing the job myself. Also $90+ for removing a $5.00 PVC valve off the valve cover and popping a new one on? This is when they were already doing work to the vehicle. I also know because I replaced the PVC valve myself and it took me under two minutes to change. This requires no tools to perform. This hasn't always been the case. I initially was going to give 3 stars but after the deceptive purging of negative reviews i decided 2 was more equitable. read more

I came here to get an oil change. They were very courteous and took good care of me. The staff is friendly and were very knowledgeable about cars. I have a 2002 Toyota camry XLE, not that this is a rare car, they were just quick to work and answered all my questions properly. I am definitely coming back for more coffee and another oil change. Also, their soft inspection on the car was pretty comprehensive. They told me how much brake pad I have left, my brake light was out, etc. Very positive work. I will come back. read more

I could rave about Chico Care forever! I have taken my Lexus there 2-3 times now and they have really saved my bacon. The free rides they provided me really were a HUGE help, and the office staff (I'm so sorry I can't remember names!) are super friendly and efficient. I was in a bind with an alternator that went out and, as with Lexus, the factory one was pretty pricey. Being honest, the lady on the phone told me they won't install anything other than OEM for something like an alternator when I told her I couldn't really afford it at that time and asked if they'd install a cheaper non-oem one. So she then did some more digging and was able to save a lot of money on an OEM she found but it wouldn't arrive until the next day and then they'd install it. I was so thankful. BUT THEN! She called a few hours later and said that the owner actually went out and found one locally and picked it up for me, it wasn't the cheaper price but they still honored the price AND my car was already done and ready to pick up! This saved me from having to arrange for a ride from and to work from Paradise the next day to pick up my car. Just outstanding customer service and great work. There's no pressure and they really really know what they're doing. I would take any car there they'd work on, not just Toyota/Lexus. My mother in law also has taken her Toyota there for over 15 years. I very highly recommend them. read more

I had to have a pre-sale inspection done for a vehicle I was looking to buy in Chico. Living in SF I had to go with the best rated spot given the Toyota dealership had horrid reviews. I was lucky enough to have an appointment easily set up, even though I was not going to be there in person. Working with Dan over the phone kept me at ease with doing things from out of town. He clearly explained what they discovered in the inspection and gave great guidance at what my next steps would be. My "Check Engine" light came on late Friday night in my '07 Camry and of course the dealership wasn't open on the weekends. Since I was out of town and needed to get home for Easter Sunday I called a local repair shop, Chico Care Care and talked to the owner, Dan Hiestand. He said he was closed for the weekend but told me to bring in the car at 10:30 on Saturday and he would take a look. Not only did Dan take a look, he diagnosed my problem (bad ignition coil), drove his own vehicle to get the part, replaced it and had me on the road in time for Easter. While I was there, 2-3 other people came by for help. Dan assisted them in the same courteous and professional way as me, even though he was closed. This auto repair shop may well do good work and other reviews are from satisfied customers. We needed a catalytic converter replacement on our Toyota. Chico Care Care quoted a price just slightly less than the Chuck Patterson Dealership,$1600 vs CCC $1400. We subsequently found a local independent shop that did the work for about 1/2 the CCC price and it fully passed the smog test. This reminds us that when expensive non-emergency work is needed it is a good idea to pay for a clear diagnosis and then check with two or three local independent dealers. Unless cost is no consideration. read more

I called Chico Car Care to ask for an estimate for having my starter replaced, I've called multiple mechanics in the area. The woman who answered insisted that she couldn't give me a rough estimate without having the car inspected for $70. No one else needed money to give me this rough estimate, it's simple parts and labor, there is a book for that......She then said she would need my license plate number.....why?..... Then it was needing to look under the hood for my VIN. I told her I had it and could give it to her over the phone. While I was looking up the VIN, she decided that they weren't the shop for me and offered to give me the contact info for other mechanics. You can imagine my surprise when she offered to give business away, this repair has been estimated by others to be about $300. That's $300 some other business will get because this woman didn't have the desire to look up parts and labor for a simple repair. On top of that she acted as if she was the last word, I was not able to get her to put an actual service person on the phone, nor would she tell me the service manager's name. Clearly, the person who put her charge of answering that phone is okay with her deciding to give away business. Sucks to be Chico Car Care, I will take my business elsewhere, and I will not recommend CCC to others. read more
