We love GVH. They're Dr.'s have always been so kind and supportive. For over 35 years, we have always come back to Guilford because it is the only place we have felt truly comfortable, our dog /cats too! They are a tad more expensive than others, but it is worth it. I found them to be honest and forthcoming with services and cost. Dr. Pixton and Dr. Dale are both wonderful. (dr. DellaMonica who retired recently) I feel seen and they gently guided us through our losses and made themselves available to address concerns and what to expect. They have made changes in the front desk/admin staff to accommodate the sheer volume of patients which at first I felt was too businesslike, and a little wonky. Now, I see totally make visits seamless. We have rarely had to wait more than a few minutes. To be fair, it is cheaper to use Chewy for some OTC's/food and prescriptions (heart worm) etc, which I do. They have a portal where they can connect with Chewy to send prescriptions through. At this point, I would not trust any other vet with our pets. read more

In the past I have had great experiences with Guilford Veterinary Hospital, but unfortunately today that has changed. I am very disappointed. I felt as though I was treated rudely and I left my appointment feeling like I had just paid a small fortune for poor service. When I inquired about anti-anxiety medication (which multiple people, including her groomer, have told me I should look into) for my nine-year old Chihuahua mix who was wracked with so much anxiety she repeatedly tried to jump off of the exam table, subsequently urinated on the table, and was shaking nonstop, I felt judged and dismissed. The vet informed me that there are supplements to try, and when I said I have tried several over the years (hemp and CBD) to little effect and my dog also generally refuses to eat them, the vet abruptly closed the subject and left the room. When the shocking amount I was due to pay at the end of the visit was read to me at the reception desk and I reacted with surprise, the receptionist immediately acted frosty and rude, as well. We arrived at our 1st appointment ~ 5 minutes before our 10AM appointment. We were greeted at the door by name (me & both dogs). We had a seat in the waiting area & were ushered into an exam room at 10AM sharp. After ~ 5 minutes getting the dogs weighed and answering a few questions with the Vet Tech, Dr Jacqueline Pino joined us. She examined both Toy Poodles asked a few questions about their treatment history, asked what we needed until their next visit in ~ 6 months, and issued orders for their Heartworm meds, etc. We were out the door at 10:25AM with three Rx's. That was easily the most organized, professional & efficient Veterinary visit I've experienced in 10 years. If you're unhappy with your current Veterinary provider, you should give the Guilford Veterinary Hospital a try...I doubt you'll be disappointed! read more

This place was fine for routine visits, giving our pets vaccines. But as soon as we had an emergency they cared far more about getting their money immediately than us being able to bring our beloved cat home healthy again. No payment plans are offered for emergency life-saving surgeries that are more expensive than what the average person can afford to pay at the drop of a dime. I've been coming to GVH for about a decade. I've been happy here in the past They have a lovely facility, skilled Vets and a large staff. My recent visit, however, was so disappointing that I've decided to go to a different Vet clinic that friends recommended. The common refrain among my friends is GVH over charges. Usually, when customer service is great, I don't mind fees. This time was very different. Not only did I feel the Vet was annoyed during the exam but on a bill over $400, I was charged for a nail trim. NO other Vet that I've ever gone to, in NY or CT, has charged for a nail trim during an exam visit with testing and shots. AND In the past GVH did NOT charge for nail trim when it was part of a costly visit. But that's not all. A Lyme test was part of the annual visit. I told the Vet I needed to get a Lyme test in a couple of months because I found two different ticks on my pup recently. The Vet said this test would show the past year and the next test would be for the recent ticks. Now In the past year, I found no ticks on my pup and she had no symptoms. Plus I had no idea the test was $118. A Vet who wasn't putting money first could have said I only needed to do a test in three months instead of two times, a few months apart. I called a Vet my friends recommended. Their charge for Lyme testing? $60. So GVH wanted $118 -- twice! That's just greedy. I'm not done though. I usually get scripts for medicine through an online pharmacy. Never had a problem with GVH faxing the script until now. They prefer you use their pharmacy! Of course, they do. They charge MSRP instead of discounting! Again, greedy. This is bad customer service. Time to move on. read more

Find a different vet...... We have had vets from Miami to Sacramento and in between they have been great! This vet..... The owner will post...I need to talk nice to staff.... So let me tell you about it! We dropped off our girl for an emgercy visit they did blood work and x-rays...at $1,000. The doctor talked to my husband and said they where sending here home with meds. We picked her up and no meds..... So we asked the staff to call the doctor because the doctor was gone by 4:30.... The staff said NO they don't call the doctor to verify orders and I could take her to an overnight emgercy vet...I was in TEARS!!!! What doctors office staff doesn't call to verify orders....they where so rude!!!! FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO! And btw....they sent another bill for the visit a month later via email REALLY! We have paid it and found a real vets office! read more

I do NOT recommend this veterinary to anyone. The vets are nice people but we have had many bad experiences with them. They always take our animals (dogs and cats), into there back room do tests, blood work, nail trims, and samples with needles without telling us before and charging us after. This veterinary hospital does not tell you what they are doing with your animal and everything is in the back room. I would not recommend this veterinary, but if you do go I would suggest you ask the nurses and vets to do their operations in the room with you there, or find a veterinary hospital that will do everything with you and not do other operations without consultation! read more

We have been using GVH to care for our dogs for 10 years after switching from another vet that we had used for about the same amount of time. We recently lost both of our dogs, they were 17 and 16 and lived full lives and their health was very good. GVH's entire staff was excellent, from the receptionist to the doctors and I always felt that they were focused on the health of our pets and our knowledge of how to give our dogs a great life. This level of service was evident right up to the last day of each of our dog's lives and their compassion and care during that very hard last day, was just amazing. If we ever get another pet, we will certainly be back to GVH for all of our animal's needs. read more

They are great with dogs and cats but not good with guinea pigs. Dont get me wrong they are kind and caring but not knowledgeable with guinea pigs and honestly if you offer the service you should know more about them. I went in for a mass on my guinea pigs stomach and was told she thought it was her bladder after a physical exam and an xray. I took her elsewhere for a 2nd opinion and was told that unfortunately it was a tumor and the only option was surgery or palliative care. Like I said they are great with my dogs but I will not be brining my guinea pigs back there as they are not that knowledgeable about them even though they provide service for them. read more

I'm pretty surprised that I'm the first reviewer here. Pretty simple...The staff is very friendly, and helpful. Our dog's Veterinarian Dr. Ackles is very good at getting back to you, diagnosing our pets properly, and always taking the time to call us back, even after hours. All in all, everything we could expect in a good veterinary hospital. The only maybe negative is the waiting room. It's very narrow when walking in the front door, so if it's busy, all the dogs are kinda clumped together, and creates chaos. It would be best to have a designated area in the front as an entrance, and maybe a separate area when checking out (like Milford animal hospital). Also a sign at the front desk that asks pet owners to not let their pet mingle with other pets. My boxer for example is older and sometimes moody especially on a leash. I constantly have to ask people not to let their dog come over to mine not only because you never know the other dog's domineer, but who knows why that dog is in for a Dr's visit...It could be contagious. if I was in my Dr's office, I wouldn't want to touch another patient...common sense right? read more

Guilford Vet is the best around. I recently had my puppy spayed there and they were awesome. They kept her overnight and she healed in a week. I drove from Ivoryton just to go to this hosputal. Dr Mullen was the best and he is greatly missed! This place has changed and not for the better. What I learned from a close friend is they operate on commission. I should have known when I took my pet in for a limp in its walk and they suggested an X-ray, followed by many rounds of blood work and an overnight stay for observation. I got the bill for over $1625 and the diagnosis of a pulled muscle-they know how pet insurance works and manages to get around it for a healthy premium by suggesting items not covered. I hope to never bring my family member to a hospital and get a doctor who works on commission..... read more

Great staff and great doctors BUT. Over priced medicine which is expected but when trying to order the same medicine online through for ex. petcareRX, they have a real trouble responding to the Fax's and sending over the prescription. I think they give you this headache of back and forth phone calls with the retailer and veterinarian to kind of force you to buy from them. Tried ordering medicine online three times for my dog and every single time had to call back and forth between retailer and vet to get anything moving forward. Retailer faxed guilford vet 3 days in a row, and then guilford vet told me they never received the fax, they would call me back never did, oh they need 24 hours. Every excuse in the book. Not happy, this has happened every single time. So unless your buying the medicine from them which is insanely over priced, look somewhere else. Giving this ONE more shot before i look for another Vet office. read more

Wonderful practice. Everyone is kind and caring. Well worth the cost. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they installed this loud, annoying TV in the waiting room, always turned on to some stupid daytime show. Why is this necessary? It used to be fun socialize with other clients and meet their animals. Now you can barely hear yourself talk to the office staff. Dumbing down, dumbing down, dumbing down. But care of your pets? The vets at GVH have taken great care of my beloved pooches for many, many years -- and comforted me through several tough medical situations. They have a brand new hospital with state of the art equipment and while I haven't shopped around for vet prices, theirs seem reasonable. I've been taking my dogs to the Guilford Veterinary Hospital for the past 25 years. For all three of my dogs, they have been compassionate, caring and wonderful in the service provided. The Vets and staff at Guilford Veterinary Hospital that I have seen over the years are professional and knowledgeable. They have sent me expressions of sympathy whenever I lost one of my dogs. We have homes in NYC and Madison and had yet to find a vet on the shoreline. Our 14-year old dog (female spayed) developed what we thought was a UTI, and we were glad to see the Guilford Vet Hospital had Sunday hours. We phoned, promptly got a Sunday appointment and now have our CT vet. Dr. Chelsea Anderson was professional, expert, sensitive, friendly and kind. (We love Cornell vets!) Receptionist Maddie was efficient, accommodating, kind and considerate. As NYers, we are accustomed to a very high level of veterinary care and we found it at the Guilford Vet Hospital. I've taken our three cats here for the last year and interacted with four of the staff members who were all very helpful. Dr. Pixton is the one who has been following our asthmatic cat that requires oral prednisone dosing to go up and down. This means I speak to hear 1-2 times a month and she is very responsive, always professional and super helpful. I give her five stars! Dr. Della Monica took care of one of our cats when we first moved here. I was impressed that he didn't recommend unnecessary testing when it was likely stress related. He even discussed options and said to wait and see how he does. Turns out he was just fine once he adjusted to the new house. I really appreciated his honesty and not trying to sell us extra services we didn't need. Dr. Nordt took care of our long haired cat that is very shy and has lots of knots in her fur. I don't have much to say because it was pretty routine care with a regular rabies shot at the annual visit. She was friendly and professional. Dr. Roasa has taken care of our oldest cat who needed dental work and it seemed like he was trying to sell us extra services unlike Dr. Della Monica who clearly stated why you would and would not do things. Dr. Roasa would say something like, we can check the blood work before anesthesia to ensure safety and do an echocardiogram since there was a murmur heard one time at another vet. He did explain that cats can have murmurs when they are stressed and he didn't hear anything that day but it was hard to tell between growls. I asked about why we would do certain blood work and I said more than he did. He said we would do kidney and liver function tests (LFTs) before surgery for anesthesia processing and then mentioned other tests that could be done as well. I said well the other tests on urine and CBC, why would we do those? The cat is not diabetic or urinating abnormally. He has never had any health conditions or signs of illness. He didn't really have an answer just said that we can run the full battery before surgery since he is an older cat to be perfectly safe. I personally like to hear reasoning behind things and want to know the differential diagnoses we are looking out for. I didn't get any of that. I'm comparing this to a Dr. at another vet that would run through all the possible differentials when my cat was sick and give you the reasoning as to why it may be a certain thing in order to do a test. Overall, I'm very happy with the vet and would recommend them to others. As the other reviewer said, the waiting room is kind of small and can get congested. I would like to see a side or area for cats and one for dogs so the cats don't get so freaked out. read more

We are always treated with courtesy and made to feel welcome, no matter how harried the desk might be. On a Friday evening before a weekend winter storm approaching we found our one year old puppy had obtained a laceration thAt needed stitches and irrigation. I had remembered this vet and the hospital and called at 6:30 pm and they took us promptly. This was not our regular vet and the whole staff was great. The doctor took her time with us and she had other patients in front of us and a huge storm approaching. I would recommend them in a heart beat. Excellent facility! We brought our 10 year old terrier mix in for a checkup and long overdue dental work. We were worried about putting our older dog through anesthesia, etc., but we met with Dr. Mullen who was fantastic and put us at ease -- he reassured us and explained what was best and why. He is patient, thoughtful, caring and takes the time to explain everything to you. Plus he is great with Ruby, our pooch. He turned what could have been a grueling ordeal into a positive, learning experience. Dr. DeAngelo did the actual dental work and she too is outstanding, a total pro. She called before the procedure to update us -- again after it was over. And the following day to check in and make sure all was well. Other staff members also called us to check on Ruby's progress. An amazing team -- everyone there is kind, caring and professional. We are grateful our friends who recommended Guilford Veterinary Hospital highly. They are the best! read more
