I really hate rating this place so low, because I've been a customer here for a while...as well as being a customer at the Fountain Valley, CA location for the 5 years when I lived in Huntington Beach. I've spent thousands of dollars at GC over the years. But my last visit on Friday, 03.11.2016 compelled me to write this. And this review is specifically about the drum/percussion section. On my previous 2 visits, there was no one working in the drum section. I had spent 30 minutes wandering around that area and no one helped me. I also noticed the cash register drawers were open and no cash tills were in them. I ended up both times walking out and either buying what I needed on the GC website for from somewhere else. The week before my last visit, I decided I needed to switch back from a double bass drum petal to a single one. According to GuitarCenter.com, this location had a new DW-3000 series single bass drum petal in stock. Perfect! So I went there on 03.11, and ran into the same issue a third time in a row. No one was assigned to the drum section (or they called off), and no cash drawers were in the register. After my normal 30 minute walk around the section, I decided to see if someone from the main/guitar room could help me out. 2 associates were answering the phones, and 2 associates were already helping customers. After hanging out for 5-10 more minutes, I left. I decided I'd order the petal I needed from GuitarCenter.com. But, seeing as I needed it prior to my next gig on 03.19.2016, I had to pay $20 extra dollars for expedited shipping. So I ended up paying $160 for something on the website that could have cost me $130-$140 in store (with tax). Step it up, GC. I don't want to shop somewhere else, but I will if this continues. read more

I purchased a used synthesizer from this location and had it shipped to me. Not only was the description far from what was described online, the synthesizer did not come with the power supply that comes with it. Now I am between the rock and hard place of spending money to get a power supply or spending my time and money to drive to the closest store to me and return the synth. Both are a waste that shouldn't happen. Unfortunately this is the sixth time this year I have had a problem with used gear I have bought from Guitar Center. Sadly, this lack of care seem to be the norm for Guitar Center. read more

I remember when the Market St location came to Boardman and ran New York Music out of business. Afterwards they went from a class B store to a class D,,,,You can't even buy a fender bass guitar, but they got squires. No music man, but they got Sterlings at twice the price as one that could be found online ....But that's not the worst, the guys working up there today doesn't seem to be musical, and not even interested in music....They don't help you, they don't talk to you, and I doubt if any musicians work there anymore. Now here is the kicker. I went up there to get a bass converted to a piccolo bass. All they did was put strings that I came in the store with on. They made me wait a day, charged me $65 ,,,just to do what I been doing for 40 years , Only to get home plug in and it wasn't even adjusted at the bridge, the nut wasn't filed, harmonics were not adjusted, nothing!!! I was very angry, and I figured that young kid wasn't familiar with a piccolo bass, so I just let it go and put my regular strings back on and said forget it, it's time to find a luthier close to me....They don't even sell my brand of strings. Dean Markley Blue steels, I also went up there to trade in a $900 amp that i got from them a year ago from the online store and they offered me $200... now here was the final. I asked if I could have a cardboard box from any thing that hung on the wall or case came out of, because I wanted to ship a guitar, and dude simply said they don't give away boxes. PETTY!!! With nothing to stand on!!!!----I think I spent over $70,000 in that store since they opened around 2003-4 . I mainly play Alembics, but that first year they opened, I purchased 3 Warwick bass guitars , not the rockbasses! The real deal! Then came back a year later and grabbed a Trition extreme! A $3,400 Board,,, but today you will find none of that kind of gear in that place... And if they reading this, they know exactly what customer is posting this,, I am sure you can go into the records and find the best customer that store ever had!! so I'm telling you go check it out for yourself. But you would never get another dime from me again. And if y'all keep it up, say goodbye to that store, because I'm not the only one talking and driving to Cleveland , Pittsburgh or Akron just to check out an American Fender...That store is going to be one of the first that closes if they keep it up. read more

Apparently the people at this store think that it's my responsibility to engage them and buy products. 20 minute standing around standing in front of the counter listening to people talk about their own stuff, that probably doesn't even have anything to do with selling audio equipment. took 20 minutes for somebody finally to say can I help you (a guy I believe is a manager. Took him 2 min max to check on me) and I said I'm just waiting for somebody to engage me as a customer and the guy in the audio department gets all with me snotty "I said Hey to you man". He conveniently forgot about the part where he complained about the customer who had just called in complained about the customer to me! well that's insufficient, loser.go to another store people. read more

WOW, after reading the reviews, I have to add my comments. I have bought thousands of dollars of items from GC. My last purchase was from the store in Monroeville, Pitts. (70 miles away) Why? Read the previous reviews. I tried to book lessons three times, never happened. Fare price for used equipment, not with current manager!!!! Customer attention, none. Friendly staff once you can get someone to wait on you. They all seem a little A.D.D. I was looking for a new speaker system for DJing and they kept just walking away. When I finally made up my mind they became very helpful but only had the demos left and couldn't sell them. read more

I was in the store last week and bought a little drum machine. I was helped right away, and the sales associate answered my questions about home recording. He showed me a couple options of equipment I would need. I never felt like I was getting a sales pitch. I'll definitely be back. read more

Guitar Center has gone so far down hill, it's pathetic. They don't have the selection they used to. At one checkout, they don't have a register, so can't take money, so they have to convert your cash to a gift card, causing transactions to take longer. The worst part though was that I paid for a guitar/mandolin set, but only received the mandolin and never got contacted that it was even in. I'm done with them. read more

I waited 25 minutes for service while the guy at the check out was waiting on a woman. After about 15 min the phone rang, he put the person on hold and finished waiting on this woman. Thinking that I was next after waiting for so long, he actually takes the phone call when he's finished with this woman. After 7 - 8 minutes I walked out!! VERY BAD SERVICE!!! I feel the person on the phone should have waited their turn. I will never return to that store. I'm buying my grandson's two guitar cases on line. read more

If I could give this store zero stars I would. This place is an absolute NIGHTMARE of a business. I am a full time working musician. I bought the Bose tower system with tone match and B1 bass. Called first, they assured me it was there before I drove an hour. It wasn't. Then they up-sold me the B2bass instead and I got it home and the box had been opened and they had taped it shut to look new. The Bass was scratched in 4 places and sold as new. I drove an hour again and returned it with a bunch of 18 year olds running the store, who didn't even know how to open the complaint I filed with corporate on their computer. They offered me no compensation for my now FIVE HOURS on the road. The manager, the next day on the phone, ordered the original B1 that I originally asked for, and assured me overnight shipping to my house. THREE days later it ships to the STORE. Now they have promised to ship it to my house. I called corporate again to make sure they don't send me an opened box with damaged gear. The Boardman Ohio store is an ABSOLUTE CIRCUS. They're a joke. Save yourself time and money and go to a reputable Bose dealer. read more
