I'd like to upgrade my review from a year ago from a 1/5 to a 4/5. A. I am happy that guitar center found it important enough to address my concern with a reply B. I met a very patient and knowledgeable employee named Morgan. I was looking for a cleaner for a guitar that I purchased and after playing it, he recommended that I get it professionally set up... said he guaranteed that I'd be even happier with my guitar. He suggested that I come back (on a Sunday) to see JD for the work. After coming in early, he asked me a few questions about my playing, and went to work getting it dialed in. It is so much easier to play now, feels so much better and it stays in tunes up and down the fretboard. Wow! Thank you Morgan and JD for your expertise, patience and kindness... I've shopped at guitar Center since the early 80s. The last 10 years I've been disappointed in the way customers like myself were treated. From the moment I walked into the Fresno store. I met up with Morgan, assistant manager, and the store manager, Mondo. They were so kind and helpful willing to go that extra mile to help me and my purchases. Morgan ran his head off trying to run the whole store by himself. I bought an Epi ES 335 but they had no case. He ran in the back, found a box, bubble wrapped it and came back with a big smile, then helped the next inline. Justine has been of great service to GC and me, finding prices, pulling off the wall and discussing how to play better. Abigail is more than social, she knows her work in guitars and amps, bought one from her. Andy is studious with his nose in his phone finding the best prices, hard worker. Can't say enough for JD and Robert in repairs, they are excellent luthiers, and help me find the best guitars and amps, their set ups are great. (I also like Robert's haircut!) Recently I decided I wanted to get back into playing music and figured electric guitar would be fun. I went in a few times in November to look around. When I was just looking around they let me be, but if I made eye contact or came up to a worker they were attentive and knowledgeable. They didn't act like they were annoyed or like I was keeping them from something. And when I eventually did buy, I picked a cheap Black Friday Guitar + Amp, I didn't feel judged or like I wasted their time. Overall all three people that helped me were cool. Adam, Abigail and a third person who I forgot their name. My guitar is probably only good for a beginner but I love it already. It was both the cheapest new guitar in the store that day, and my absolute favorite looking guitar I've help (especially within my budget). The older gentleman that wore a Mohawk in high school (name escapes me; I am old also) in repairs was knowledgeable, attentive, and very pleasant to chat with. Tried to buy some stuff. Needed monitor speakers, studio mic, and a few other miscellaneous items. Was ready to spend at $1,500 in new gear. But no one was around to help. The entire audio section was unmanned the whole time I was there. I walked up to the counter a few times, thinking maybe the person who runs this section is just using the bathroom or something. But no one ever was there. It was today. 3/11/24 around 4 to 4:30. Very disappointing. This store has gone down hill. It looks like it's going out of business and service is non existent. Complaint Resolved: On January 17, 2022, a few hours after posting my first update, I was contacted by a "Mando" from Guitar Center in Fresno. He offered to exchange the MXR Chorus Pedal or refund the purchase. I went to Guitar Center the next day, January 18, 2022, and exchanged the chorus pedal for a working one. I gave Guitar Center a rating of three stars on this update due to their decision to finally exchange the defective chorus pedal. It would have been a five-star rating had they did what was right in the first place and exchange the chorus pedal without a complaint having to be filed with the Better Business Bureau. read more

I'll preface this by saying I understand the challenges of running a retail business in 2024 but wow, there are limits to how you should treat your customers. I came in to buy an amp I saw online and possibly a guitar. After trying a guitar which needed to be unlocked the salesman disappeared so I gently set it down on the repair counter only to be yelled at that it could only be given back to the salesman. The problem with yelling at your customers is you never know who they are. Am I a homeless dude? A multi millionaire record producer? Someone who just wanted to drop a few grand on a Saturday afternoon? I guess they'll never know as it was probably the last time I'll go in that place. read more

Purchased a Fender acoustic guitar for my daughter at a reasonable price. Upon entrance to the store, was met without greeting - looked at then ignored by the people that were sitting at the table just by the entrance of the guitar display, whatever, probably not their job but just want to note that. The following day after purchase, the 1st string (High E) broke. Not being guitar savy, I went back to purchase the single string and seek assistance on how to replace and maybe, just maybe have it installed possibly as a small "one time" courtesy for a new customer, but that was not the case. Unfortunately, they don't replace single strings, just entire sets which they charge $25 + cost of parts. No biggie, it's probably not how they do business anyway. They weren't even busy at all. I was told that the first thing a customer should do when they purchase a new guitar is to immeditely replace the strings because who knows how long they were attached to the guitar/sitting in box andover time, exposure to the elements will lose its integrity. YouTube is your friend and it only took a few minutes to install. Overall, an ok experience. read more

Then, when I said I no longer wanted lessons from their business the refused to refund me even though my lessons were over a week away. As a musician, visiting a music store is like a petting zoo, you just have to pick up and play something, and if you're in tune is even better for everyone. I had ordered a Artist model Stratocaster (Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple fame) from Cincinnati and couldn't wait to plug it in and ride the lighting. Worst customer service ever. I stood in line three times at three different counters for the first guy to eventually just go get the things. Nine bozos working and none of them deserve a job. They're all slow, failed musicians with childhood bully trauma on their shoulders. Never again. Thank you for the response! I've since found my zen, and the one worker that helped me confessed and apologized that the frustration and lack of attentiveness was partially due to a lot of technology malfunctions. I went into to solve a sound issue, my hearing. Needed a mini amp and microphone with ¼" jack. Bought the amp, but couldn't get the guy to understand that I just needed a simple microphone. They just sell boxes of stuff they can't think outside of the box. If you know what you want and no one else has it, maybe you could give them a try but I can't recommend them for any help. Bummer... Do not buy anything here! Worst customer service EVER! Manager simply doesn't care to have your business. Instead of trying to solve the issue she told us to return the defective guitar. I have never experienced such treatment. My son bough his first guitar here and within two hours the strings broke and she said that the guitar had been sitting in a warehouse for "who knows how long" and there was nothing she could do. If we needed it it fixed we would need to pay for the strings and labor. How is this our fault? They sell defective guitars and take zero responsibility for anything. Mind you, we bought insurance but of course didn't cover that. I understand if we had had the guitar for months but we had just bought it two hours ago and we're not new to guitars, we know how to handle them but these strings were just old and rusty. The manager's attitude was the worst: "Well, you can return the guitar but we won't fix the strings" . Who says that??? Horrible. She should not be nowhere near customers. She should be in the warehouse packing something away from people. No wonder they only have a 2.5 star rating. Pay attention everyone, these ratings are there for a reason. Needless to say, we're on our way to return the defective guitar. We'll be taking our business elsewhere... not that she cares. read more

I was at the store on 5/2/2018, at 830pm. Three male associates were walking around in the guitar section and appeared too busy to ask if I was ok. Then one of the employees walked by and asked if I needed help. I said yeah, I'm looking for a decent guitar amp like Line 6 or Katana. He showed me them. I asked about specifics on each amp. He gave me a very generic response. Luckily, before I went into the store, I had already researched all the products online. This employee must have assumed I didn't know anything about music and continued giving me information straight from the labels on the box. So I asked him if there were any guitars available with EMG pickups. He said yeah and pointed at the wall. He walked away and didn't bother to actually show me one. I found a guitar with EMGs and tried it out on a few amps. I thought the Blackstar ID100 sounded pretty good. It was marked on sale at $299, normally $350. So I decided hey, good sounding amp to mess around on and a good price. I proceed to tell the guy I'd like to buy the amp. This is when my experience crashed and burned. So he tells me the DEMO FLOOR MODEL is the last one left. So I ask, hey this thing has been on the floor and has been used lord knows how many times, how about a small discount because it's the floor model? With an annoyed look, he says, "No, it's already on sale." So I thought to myself this nut job employee is trying to sell me a used floor model at full price. I tell them, I'm not going to bother paying full price for a dinged up amp off the sales floor. So I left. I figured a company of the verge of bankruptcy would be going all out to appease the customer, apparently not. This employee is a skinny white male, approximately 5'4" with combed over dark brown hair. Avoid him and guitar center at all cost. There is a reason Guitar Center is going Bankrupt and this is it. Terrible customer service. It's a shame, I've spent thousands on gear over the last 10 years. Then again, back in 90's to 2000s , G.C. actually hired people that cared and had a passion for music, not annoyed robots that walk around and spout out the same info on the cover of the box. The employee in the key board sect SUCKED! he was RUDE and had NO IDEA WHAT HE WAS SELLING! I went to look for a laptop stand for DJing in the keyboard sect of the store in Fresno on Friday July 2nd at 7pm 2021 and only saw one for $60, when I went to ask for assistance to see if there are any other options the clerk said he had only that one stand but "it's the best stand", I asked if it came with a certain feat. Hence the price and he asked in a condensending way "you're joking right?" I was shocked, I'm genuinely asking as a buying customer and this guy is out of line rude, I let him know I wasn't joking and STILL! HE DIDNT ANSWER MY QUESTION. He then went on to say "let me see if this is the right price" and he proceeded to check and then he said "it's actually $80" ... Woah! that's a whole $20 more than the price on the tag! So I asked "why?" hoping he would tell me all the benefits of this stand that's now $80 BUT instead of answering HE IGNORED ME and took a long sigh of annoyances! He gets to guitar center and go to the guitar area asking and the guy at counter said he was busy and waved him off. I ordered a Bluetooth speaker online last week. This Fresno store had it. They were sent correct information and my address to send it to me in Arroyo Grande Ca less than 200 miles away. What did they do? Some knucklehead there ignored the correct purchase order and sent my order to Kansas. A good 1600 miles away. What kind of idiot would do this? After 2 years of alot of orders from Guitar Center your store is company's third and worst mistake with me. We're done. I still can't believe the stupidity of your employee. It wasn't just a mistake, it was stupidity and neglect. Everyone in our Five City area especially in Pismo Beach will know about your knucklehead by the end of the week. I have rarely ever written reviews but the customer service here was too awful to ignore. I went in to find out some information on recording gear. The guy in the beard at the recording counter came in after I waited 10 minutes and I asked what the differences were in a couple of the audio interfaces on display. He was very rude and condescending and straight up told me that I seemed inexperienced, his exact words being along the lines of "and this one has this type of plug which you won't realize you need unless your in a specific situation which it sounds like your pretty inexperienced in situations in general". He also dribbled spit onto his beard which was very unhygienic. In general he made me feel stupid and from now on I will be dealing with Gottschalks and Sweetwater for my music needs. read more

This place is awesome. The Employees are some of the chillest people to work with. I've bought a lot of equipment through my Man Chris Sullivan at this Guitar Center. People need to understand that it gets busy and hectic for employees here sometimes. Be patient and understanding, these guys are just doing their job. If your call is on hold for too long it's because the department you're calling for is single covered, busy with customers or the dude could be in the warehouse trying to find something for a customer. This store is for people who have time to dedicate to talk about what you're buying. It's not a Walmart, be a chill customer. No one wants to help a customer with a bad attitude. read more

104 outside, no water, no shade and limiting people in a store. Almost all places around town no longer require lines, just masks and distancing. We finally got in and I actually counted 13 people. So because you don't care about the health and safety of the customers outside and your letting under a dozen total in the store (including staff), our $3800 purchase just went to someone else. Walked in and the place smelled like pot. Not very busy and no help available. I waited in line in the recording section for over 15min and the line didn't move. Guy working the counter was just ... Just .... Standing there . Not typing on his computer, not doing anything. If he was waiting for approval on something, don't you think he could at least help other people while waiting (if that is what was going on?) The good: They have the biggest/best selection in town. They are the only place in Fresno that sells Gibson products. There's a really good chance that you'll find something you like. Great place to try out stuff. I've had a good experience when I went to return a guitar that arrived damaged. The meh: They have a couple good employees, and a lot of bad ones. Very few of them know much about guitars, other than how to play them. They keep their high-end instruments on the top shelf where you can't reach them; this is bad because it's a hassle to try them out, but also good because if you buy one, it hasn't been played/dented by a hundred people. The bad: Lots of rude employees. I was told off/cussed out by one just because I was looking for a price match. They have a lot of dented/flawed stock that they sell as new. They get unhappy if you turn up an amplifier at all. They sell everything at market price and refuse to negotiate; don't be fooled by how much items have been "marked off", you can get the same stuff online for 8-30% cheaper. read more
