Dan did an amazing job in a short time assessing needs and adjusting the necks/action, fixing cracked headstock, replacing broken tuning keys, restringing, and replacing a broken pick-up jack with a new part. Dan was also genuine about what damage would cost more than the value of the guitar and what repairs were worthwhile, and his fee was reasonable and affordable. I'm in Clovis frequently and needed a new tremolo cover for my guitar. I stopped by Gottschalk…read morebecause it was in close proximity to where I'm staying and more convenient to driving all the way up to Blackstone. I stopped in on Monday and they let me know that they didn't have the part I needed in stock but that their Madera store did. The worker called the Madera store while I was there and assured me it would be included in their delivery the next day at 2pm and that they would call me to let me know when it arrived. I never got a call. I called around 4pm to check and see if it had arrived. The worker let me know that the truck hadn't arrived yet but that he would call me when it did. I never got that call either. I called them again around 5pm and he let me know that the part hadn't been included in their delivery but that he would follow up and make sure it arrived with the next day's delivery around 4pm. He also said he would give me a call. You guessed it, that call never came. I followed up again and it was the same issue. Fast forward to today and I received a call around 10am that my tremolo plate was at the store and ready for pickup. I got there around 1pm only to discover that the tremolo plate was there however, there weren't any screws included for installation. Something I had specifically asked about when ordering the part. I figured, it's fine, I'll just head over to Ace Hardware and get what I need. I got the screws I needed and headed back to install it. Upon installation I discovered that the plate was warped beyond correction. As far as improvements you can make: transparency, communication and quality checking your products. I don't have time to go back to their store today and while I was there the worker let me know that I'd have to return it today or else they would have issue a check if I returned it afterwards. A check for $9... Like I said, I visit Clovis frequently and always travel with my instruments. I will no longer be frequenting Gottschalk. I'll make the drive to Blackstone for all of my equipment needs.

I was looking for a shop to restore a "1948 OLDS Super" B flat Trumpet that I found at an estate…read moresale. To say the least, this horn needed some love after sitting in someone's garage for decades. As luck would have it, this horn was identical to my very first Trumpet that my Aunt in Chicago sent to me in 1964. With that horn, I played a solo at my High School Graduation. Eight years later, the horn was mysteriously stolen. I google searched for a musical instrument repair shop. The second call I made was to The Horn Shop in Fresno, CA. Harry Siverly, the man that answered the phone is also the owner. He shared his years in the business, both as a musician as well as his experience restoring (over hauling) basically all instruments. I had a good feeling about Harry and arranged an appointment. On meeting Harry, I shared how I met my high school Band Director Gene Sherry, who literally taught me how to hold the horn, and privately tutored me. It turns out that Harry knew Gene Sherry and his daughter Elaine, who was also in Band at the time. In that first interaction I told Harry how the estate sale horn was identical to my first trumpet. Harry did the research and authenticated 1948 as year of manufacture. Harry asked for my input, and regularly updated me on progress throughout the restoration. Harry's excellent understanding of the horn, great communication skills, focus and passion exceeded expectation. The pictures below speak volumes. If you are looking for an unprecedented expert in all aspects of your musical instrument whether you are looking for an instrument, service and maintenance, Harry and his team should be your first stop. He leveled the frets, adjusted the custom nut, saddle, pins and worked on the back of the neck. It's the best it's ever sounded with a deep residence for a Martin! It never sounded like that before. Ted at TC Guitars made it playable and a joy to pick up! Next, I got my 1978 Ovation 1618 for a tuneup. This amazing 48 year old guitar sounds great and easier to play after Ted's skilled hands made it right. This guitar is a stunner for almost 50 years old and now I really enjoy it!
