Customer service is so friendly and Alexis is there she has no problem in demonstrating the sounds of the various Cajons out on the floor. She knows I'm a beginner so she is very patient. What's ironic I spoke to a friend from San Luis Obispo he mentioned he likes coming into Bentleys when he's in town if I've been in the shop! Yeah! Came in right before Christmas to buy my husband a drum set. I was immediately greeted and the staff really listened to my needs. I was escorted to the perfect drum set with no attempt to upsell me to higher priced set. I was impressed that the purchase included two drum lessons which I am sure will lead to many more. I've been a customer of Bentley's for over 15 years and the knowledgeable, helpful staff and quality of the instruments never ceases to amaze me. This week I brought in my 1980 DW custom snare with a broken lug in at lunch, 12pm. Jeff Bergen put a good quality used lug on (DW custom), changed and tuned my batter head (after calling me and asking if it was okay) modified my snare wires and called at 2pm and said it was ready. The charge was incredibly low for labor and parts. My snare sounds amazing. I feel so blessed that I live close to this amazing drum store. Bentley's recently moved/moving to Blackstone into the old Bilsteins and from the outside their new shop looks dynamite, can't wait to visit. When I first walked into their old shop on Shields it reminded me of a small West Coast Drum Shop thats located in Orange County. Thats the drum shop I grew up in and spent way too much money at over the years. The owner plays and is very knowledgeable, they offer lessons and they offer good deals on equipment. I don't have anything against Guitar Center and I do buy my guitar equipment there, but drums are my first love and Bentley's has a better pulse on the local music scene. They've got the basic starter sets up to the high end Gretsch, Ludwig, etc. They also carry almost every brand of cymbal you can think of. Get on their mailing list and they'll send you notice of great factory sponsored events at their shop. read more

Dana has always been a great help and is a drum shop owner who goes above and beyond for his customers. He and the rest of Bentley's staff make you feel more like family than just a customer and collectively have extensive experience as well as knowledge in drums and percussion. I shop at all the others for guitar and audio accessories that aren't Bentley's specialty. It's clear that Dana Bentley has the most knowledgeable staff. This place is an absolute gem of a drum shop! I am from Southern California, but I stopped here on the way back from a road trip to Portland. Needless to say, my wife was pissed. But I digest. They have whatever you need and then some. If you are in the area or ordering online, please come here. They may or may not match your Guitar Center coupon. I wouldn't know because I didn't ask. I would rather give that extra 15% to a man who decided to risk everything to venture on and continue the great tradition of the local drum shop. You see, Guitar Center, who is currently under the ownership of Bain Capital, sells trash equipment to trash musicians at a high volume and hires absolutely incompetent workers to keep their profit margins high. Do they care about the art of drums? That's a rhetorical question; you answer it (The answer is no. They know nothing of the Guerrilla Renaissance) I could teach a 5th grader more about drum knowledge in a half hour than anyone you will encounter on their sales floor will likely have in their lifetime. The point is if you want to have a knowledgeable, customer-centric drummer (Thanks, Ethan!) guide you to a purchase you will be 100% satisfied with, then frequent this establishment as often as possible. If not, continue your patronage at musical instrument conglomerates and get you a $3000 "deal" on a "high-end" sweatshop kit (I'm looking at you with shaming eyes Yamaha). Do the right thing. Or else you will struggle to explain to your grand children what a real drum shop was. read more

I have purchased several kits and many snare drums in the past 13 years at Bentley's. Dana (the owner) is the best. No pressure...super nice guy...the selection will amaze you. His relationship with manufacturers such as DW, Craviotto and Yamaha gets him drums not available elsewhere. I found a new-in-the-box rare solid shell Craviotto Edge in his shop and thought I would never see one again. He had some of the last Yamaha Absolute Drums and at crazy low prices. He is about 3 hours away but I find reasons to come by. Idaho Percussion, Midwest Percussion, Greenbrier Music were great shops that are now defunct but Bentley's persists despite California's higher sales tax. Stop by. I can say with honesty that Bentley's is the cleanest, most organized, most professional music store I have EVER been in. 1.) A month ago, I first became a customer of Bentley's; as I wrote in yelp it was an eye-opening experience. I then placed a rather large, multifaceted, and convoluted order for a Roland set of atypical components. Dana patiently went over the specific, interrelated parts of the order, constructed it properly, and shipped it to me at a great price. If anyone wonders how "small" businesses can compete with large chains such as Guitar Center, here is your answer. Dealing with large "professional/corporate" stores, compared to Bentley's is a Canoes to Battleships comparison. Again, they have my sincerest appreciation. read more

And I'm pleased to say it has everything you need/want if you are interested in drums. Aside from the products, the owners and customers seem to reach out to each other very well.
