Ordered a "New" ebony Epiphone Hummingbird online to be delivered to the Joliet store a few months back. Just recently removed it from the original store packaging and upon inspection, saw that it was definitely a used guitar. Loaded with tons of swirl marks on the back, front, and pickgaurd. I paid full price for what should be a brand new guitar. Should have spent time reviewing guitar center before purchasing. Not much good people have to say about the big box guitar chain. So my 11 year old daughter who purchased her guitar and everything else from this store along with a strap, bag, stool, stand, music books, kapo, and an extra set of strings broke her very first string after 2 years. Oh, she's also taken lessons at Guitar Center for 2 years at a different location since Joliet doesn't offer lessons. Anyway, she walked in today, string in hand, and asked if they would put it on for her. They wouldn't touch it unless she paid $30. It literally would've taken one person 30 seconds to do the job but they refused. Way to go Guitar Center Joliet. Apparantly being a loyal customer for 2 years and asking for someone to put a string on is the equivalent of "asking for an oil change and expecting it to be free". Yes, someone from there actually said that. Thanks for sharing your love and passion of music with my daughter! This was the perfect opportunity to teach a child something they will need to know how to do in the future. Instead, you tought her a lesson of how uncaring some people can be and how the "mighty buck" always prevails. You guys are a real class act! read more

We walked in today and was greeted right away from a nice man named Andre. He was so helpful and answered all of my many questions about a particular keyboard that I was planning on buying. These guys are pro's and have excellent service. It was awesome to have good advice towards my purchases and they even helped me keep my budget. Also, although I had an issue with a used speaker they exchanged it for a new one! In addition they gave me a free Microphone cord for the inconvenience so was a huge win win! Big kudos go out to Tony the GM and Steve the Assistant manager for sorting things out and making me a super happy customer. All I can really say about this particular Guitar Center is that I'm not happy with it. I'm giving it three, no two stars, but I feel like I'm being generous because I love Guitar Center in general. But seriously, this store kind of sucks. I've been here at least a half-a-dozen times and just get the general feeling that I'm being ignored. Once I hit the keyboard area I usually get someone to ask me "how's it goin", but the rest of the store is a ghost town. Not that there's no staff present, they just seem to be in another dimension. Sitting around chatting amongst themselves. I've got a gift card burning a hole in my pocket and the last few times I've been there I've walked out with nothing. C'mon people...at least try to sell me a mouth harp or a slide whistle. I feel like the only thing that brings me back to this location are the circulars I receive in the mail. Maybe I'd be better off shopping online from now on. I guess I can't help but compare this Guitar Center to the whole Guitar Center experience in general. It's just very non-welcoming here. I've been to countless other locations and it's drastically different. I can EASILY spend hours in the store because I play many different instruments, but time and time again I walk through, do a few loops and I'm back out in the parking lot. There should be drum sticks out for people to grab and play. There should be guitar cables, picks, maybe a few staff members to ask if you have any questions. Something. Anything. There's just no energy here. Next time I go I'm gonna crank up an amp and strum some blues. Maybe that'll send the message. I doubt it though. read more

Pretty average as far as Guitar Center's go. Not a bad place to go shop for some new gear, but not the greatest selection. The employees have always been helpful, and are pretty knowledgeable about their products. Stop by if you're nearby and want to check out what they have, I wouldn't go out of my way to go there though. read more

This place is terrible as far as customer service goes. I went once to fix the broken bridge on my guitar and was asked to remove my guitar from my case and keep the case at the front because I might steal something. Apparently they didn't care much about someone stealing my case since they left it at the counter right by the front door with no one to watch it. If you have issues with theft then it might be wise to have someone watch your patrons items lest someone swipes those in addition to your precious merchandise. The employees were unfriendly and unhelpful. Not ever returning. read more

Great store with very friendly people. You feel like you are family when you walk in. What I like is that they do not mind you trying out stuff. The selection is good. My only complaint is that I wish they had some higher end Jazz Boxes there. However, that is not the fault of the people who run the store. Guitar Center Corp. orders for the stores. As a musician this store is unparalleled. Great products for reasonable prices. Also the staff there get to know their customer and help them out accordingly. You know... I read many bad reviews about this place, and I was actually afraid to go in there. Today I went into guitar center for the first time. My experience was pretty great! I am not a guitar player. I am more of a keyboard/electronic novice. I went into the keyboard side of the store, and of course to no surprise it was rather quiet. I made a joke about the quiet, and the two guys that were there....(didn't get names...my bad) kind of reciprocated the comment that they like it that way. I have to admit, I was a bit intimidated to even go in there...but I told the guy at the counter that I am a novice, and doing electronic music. Instead of getting the typical snobby brush off, the guy went all out and showed me some really cool things you can do with Ableton software, and launch key remotes. He told me he was not a musician, but an engineer, and new the mechanics of the software. He showed me some really great options, and I wound up buying Ableton software based on what he showed me. He also showed me opportunity to go to classes that they teach. I needed this a whole lot! The seal of the deal, was when a girl walked in, and noticed my Skinny Puppy Tattoo, and shook my hand. This place is much cooler than I expected, they have wonderful toys, and they do not bullshit you into buying something you cannot handle. Fantastic customer service! I will be a regular from now on! I appreciate this hands on one on one, and not making me feel like I don't belong. I shall be a regular. What a cool store! I wish I knew that guy's name, but he impressed me! Okay, so Guitar Center Joliet. Bought a $350 Epiphone Hummingbird here recently and they were very good on following up with numerous phone calls. This Mel or Meihl or something. Anyway this girl was an angel and VERY helpful which counteracts with my other experiences with GC employees who I often find to be a bit snooty. Seriously, I have met a couple pretty famous musicians in my time and they were better than this! But this Mel she was great. I'll give it three because it's an instrument store and you can walk in an get a Tele '52 reissue or basically any famous guitar without having to order. read more

I went to this store to look at the drum kits with the intention to purchase a new one. I asked a sales person behind the counter if I could try out (play) this one particular drum set. He said sure, I had to even ask for a pair of sticks, which he gave me, After about 2 minutes of playing the kit, another sales person came up to me and asked me what I was doing ? I said trying out this drum set, he said to " stop, we are trying to conduct business here". You can play those electronic kits with headphones on. I had no intention of buying an electronic kit. I was totally blown away by this guys poor attitude, Me purchasing that drum kit would have been conducting business! If your policy is to not let people play the acoustic kits then don't say okay, here is a pair of sticks. I also feel that I was playing fairly well and not just randomly banging on the kit real hard. Well I told that guy what I thought of him, then left the store. I have been playing for over 25 years and am an adult male with a great income. 2 weeks later I purchased $8,000, yes, that's eight thousand dollars worth of drum set and cymbals from one of Guitar Centers competitors. Prior to this experience I had shopped at Guitar center for many many years, I used to drive to Niles before there were any other GC stores around the suburbs. I have also purchased P.A. gear, mics, sticks and a lot of music gear, but do not patronize GC anymore. So whoever that idiot was, I should have got his name and spoke to the manager, but it was not worth my time. I would suggest that you think twice about how you treat a customer and a potential good sale. read more
