This is one of the best-stocked music stores I've visited in quite some time. The used guitar and bass selection is especially impressive--high volume, high quality, and clearly curated rather than picked over. Instruments are well maintained, fairly priced, and span a wide range of styles and player needs. The store itself is clean, thoughtfully organized, and easy to navigate, which makes browsing enjoyable instead of overwhelming. Just as important, the staff is well trained, approachable, and knowledgeable without being pushy--exactly what musicians want when making serious gear decisions. The combination of strong inventory and competent staff inspires real confidence. Unfortunately, here we are again with another sad experience at guitar center. I will, admit, they fixed it for a while and really buckled down on their staff. This isn't a review of their staff. They're doing their best. Ultimately, these guys are losing, and will continue to lose to places like Sweetwater because they bend over their customers at every turn. Just found an acoustic that I really liked and wanted to put it on layaway. Months ago, I had a guitar on layaway with $50 down. Today, I'm told in a very blasé manner that layaway is now a 100% deposit. Pardon the language, but what the absolute hell is the point of layaway if I have to pay everything up front? All in all though, it either turned out to be a lie, a misinformed associate, or a misrepresentation on their website. Check the screenshot. Sad death for you guys, but it's coming. And your company dug the grave it will lie in in a few years' time. It's Sweetwater from now on for big gear, and Lane Music for strings and cords. Just can't stomach how badly GC treats the people who keep their business afloat anymore. read more

I brought a beautiful 2003 Gibson Les Paul in to their shop for a tuneup and it was returned to me with scratches and damage that was beyond belief! They suggested Paris guitar repair to fix the issues they caused. Paris was able to repair 85% of the damages done by Guitar Center. When I confronted them with the cost of repair work they completely blew me off with out any regard for their work or the damages they had caused. I would highly suggest staying as far away from their shop as possible, they do not take responsibility for anything and more likely cause more damage than good. read more

I usually only go here if I need something like strings, otherwise I order most of my stuff online. That includes Guitar Center Online since they occasionally have deals. The local store here in Knoxville is so-so. I've gotten a slew of pedals, several guitars and amps here, but that's over a long period of time. You can do returns to the local (this one) store if need be to save shipping for stuff you got from GC online. They're usually open fairly late 7 days a week and you can usually try gear out without having somebody breathing down your neck. Since the mask thing, I rarely go. read more

..used to get my guitars intonated/setup here..since I live 30+ min away I would call and set my appointment- with Joe, I believe- bring it in on appointment day and a couple hours later is would be ready...excellent tech, very professional, and did super work...called a few months ago and new tech tells me he doesn't take appointments- have to bring it in and leave it and he will call me when it's ready, could take a week.....not happening....staff are snobs and the tech was the only one keeping me there......btw- since then I've bought a guitar, mic, mic stand, guitar wireless adapter, cables, case, and other items....from others....will be adding a new amp soon, and won't be buying it here...you get better help online.... read more

Bought a guitar on line at 10AM paid and added next day air. It was my birthday present to myself got a email stateing it was getting ready to ship well it never shipped I had to call the Knoxville store and I talked to the manager who couldn't care less all he said it was a glitch. My initial experience was great. I got what I needed at a fair price. I got my son a starter guitar. After picking up my item, I started receiving numerous texts telling me my guitar was ready for pickup. Ok, no problem, glitch in the system, right?!? Then I started receiving calls, texts, and emails. I filled out the first survey telling them how happy I was. NONE OF IT HAS STOPPED!!! It's been almost a year. It hasn't stopped. I was able to stop the texts, but they call from different numbers and stuff. I've asked them in all 3 formats to stop contacting me. That's why I'm posting this now. Got more today. I will never go back to Guitar Center. I took my classical guitar in to have new strings put on it. They put the cheapest strings on it that they could possibly have chosen, and then I noticed that there was a new nut on it... a plastic one! They obviously broke the original bone nut and didn't tell me. I took it to Parris Guitar Repair today to have this corrected. Thank goodness there was no permanent damage done. If you have an instrument you care about, don't take it to Guitar Center. read more

All I have to say is Joe the guitar tech is phenomenal!! He installed some lambertone pickups in my guitar along with a 920d harness. Not only was he helpful, explained EVERYTHING, kept my guitar in stellar condition. But he was extremely personable and is an absolute asset to this company. Employees are nice and very helpful. We purchased my daughters first drum set. With the recommendation from staff we also purchased the DVD set that has an instructional on assembly! Nothing like walking into a music store, finding a guitar you're really interested in, and wanting to try it out...only to find that five employees are huddled around a guitar amp cranking out awful playing on a badly tuned guitar through an amplifier turned up to ten! I just wanted to try out a guitar that I was very interested in purchasing, but couldn't hear it over the noise the employees were making. It's a shame they lost my business along with a couple others who shared the same annoyed face that I had. read more

Guitar Center Chattanooga. Beware of switch and bait. I thought I was buying a bundled deal for a Yamaha P-125 Keyboard (Store Floor Model) at special price. No box simply they loaded it into my vehicle and I was a happy camper until I ordered the 3 pedal floor pedal for the P-125 Keyboard and it didn't work with my Keyboard. Well what did I discover I was sold a cheaper version Keyboard. Not what I had negotiated for. I asked for them to replace the Keyboard and even agreed to pay an additional $100, but no they said this model did not come with a stand and they wanted $200. I told them they could shove it where the sun does not shine. I will never darken this store or any of its affiliates ever again. Caveat Emptor applies with this buying experience. And I certainly advise you to beware of these folks. I would avoid them like the bubonic plague!!! If looking for a Yamaha Keyboard, deal with the folks at Sweetwater Music. He and his manager graciously gave us 2 free items from our purchase. This was a great help seeing as each Auralex item averaged about $25.00! Every time I go to this guitar center I leave saying never again. I try to buy a Gibson Les Paul, we are talking a$2500 guitar and can't get anyone to help. I checked out Guitar Center online. It had better reviews than most. So wanting to patronize in my area and not just order online. I went to the store. Nice big store. Lots of room and rooms to look in. had a great assortment of just about anything you would want. After walking around for an hour of looking and not finding what I was looking for. I tried to find someone to talk to. but you couldn't tell the people who worked there from the people off the street. so finally when I got a chance I ask the person at the counter if someone could help me with a guitar and amp. He said he could help. So I explained what I wanted and that I could fine it. so he spent five minutes looking on his computer to tell me they did not have the amp and couldn't get the amp. And as for the guitar there was only one on the entire Guitar Center system. So I politely thanked him for looking but I wanted to buy them as a package. So I found them online at Sam Ash in Nashville and ordered them. Sorry to say a store that has a lot but doesn't have and can't get what you want really has no purpose for me. read more

They have musical equipment a low prices...kinda like the Wall-mart of music gear. This one has lack luster service...9 times out of 10 half of the employes are playing guitars and are terrible at helping customers. I shop here because i have to...please let another spot open up. The only reason the place get's 3 stars is they have a fantastic guitar tech who works on site. This guy is great. He only works on stringed instruments and operates independently from the store, he is not a sales associate. Give him a try if you need repair work or a great set up. read more

The Alesis iDock for iPad does NOT work with 3rd generation iPad. There was no way Scotty could have known this as the product is relatively new. But still, a very infomed salesman. read more
